    Cuban Sandwich
    John H.

This food cart found in Brooklyn Carreta stood out due to their sandwich board claiming the "best Cuban sandwich in town" and the friendly guy hollering out to us! Anyone who tries to engage customers has an edge in my opinion! It took a little longer than some food from other carts in our group, but not the longest. However, this spot wins for presentation! Wow! HUGE sandwich! Plantain on top with a little Cuban flag! The sandwich was hot pressed, full of tasty meat - with a hard to identify, savory flavor - delicious! The cheese could have been melted more. I would definitely get again! The sauce was good, too!

Got the cuban pork sandwich and the sauce on the side as I just wasn't sure if it hade any mayo in it. It didn't and it had amazing flavor. The sandwich was big. I opened it up and took off some of the fat. It wasn't pulled meat which is different than other cuban places. Very good flavor of the pork too. It was a bit greasy but that's ok. I might do the plate next time as easier for me to cut off the fat. I know most people probably don't care and it adds flavor. The woman working there was super friendly and helpful.

cuban ! sandwich ! my gooood so good. for $14.99 you get a very healthy serving of probably one of my favorite sandwiches ever. it comes with a side sauce that pairs really nicely. the ham and roast pork is seasoned perfectly, and the bread is just crispy enough. also for $14.99: tamale !! with choice of pork or beef. tamales only on certain days though, ever since brooklyn carreta opened i've been asking the cart for tamales and i finally got it. worth the wait because it's a huge tamale, and it has a slight hint of sweet corn flavor. good amount of beef filling inside as well. the side of meat was a bit too salty for my liking but still tasty. fast service, and kind people too.

First time coming to this food pod. It's absolutely amazing! Lots of food trucks, outside covered seating, inside seating with large tv and bar and a fire feature. I walked the carts with my son to see what stood out. The gentleman at Havana Station was in the window ready to chat. My son and I have enjoyed Cuban food in Portland so I assumed this would be a win. The gentleman was very friendly and when I asked about the dishes he's most proud of and he'd encourage someone to try, he gave a few suggestions. I went with the #2 Vaca Frita suggestion. Was home and plating in 10 minutes. The meat was on top of rice and beans. The meat was so chewy it was inedible. The rice and beans were cooked great, but they were coated in grease/oil from the meat. The plantains were great and the coleslaw would have been a wonderful contrast to the meat. The sauce had great flavor. I've read some positive reviews and was surprised by our experience

We had delicious Cuban sandwiches and the non alcoholic malt drink was tasty as well. Cooks and guy running the front had an upbeat vibe that added to our exceptional experience. Brooklyn Carreta had plenty of seating (outdoor heated and covered) plus uncovered with gas decorative fireplace for a summer return.

I came here one evening to get some dinner. I haven't had Cuban food in a long time. The owner was very kind and gave recommendations. I ordered their bistec a la palomilla, and picked Cuban rice with it. It comes with thinly grilled piece of steak with grilled onions, maduros, and a salad. The flavors were amazing, I really loved the Cuban rice. The salad was good as well, and maduros were good. Good portion size as well! Definitely will be back to try their other dishes.

This is a second cart to the one at the Mercado on Foster. This one is at the new Brooklyn Carreta (McLoughlin and Holgate).

New location at Brooklyn Carreta! Get there early and often. Authentic Cuban food that is delicious.

This is one of the first times trying Cuban food! I tried the ropa vieja, marinated shredded beef. It came with Cubsn rice, plantains, and some salad. The beef was so flavorful and tasty and the rice accompanying it did not disappoint. I initially was not going to try here when I was at Portland Mercado as I was craving tacos but I am glad I also got to try this spot. The cashier was also super friendly and hounded me down when I asked by and enthusiastically helped me out when I had questions.

Their #1 ropa vieja was flawless; rich & flavorful shredded beef served with rice, salad, and sweet maduros. Definitely sub out plain white rice for the arroz congri (Cuban rice) and you won't be disappointed! At $13.99 we liked it as much as the one served at our favorite cuban restaurant, Pambiche. Definitely will be back to try the lechon asado!

I cannot rave enough about how good the food is at Havana Station. I love to make picadillo at home so I wanted to see how good it was here. I was surprised that I liked it better than my own. Picadillo is a Cuban comfort food and it was perfect on this cold rainy Portland day. Everything else was delicious. The salad had a little salsa on top, although salsa is not generally made in Cuba I enjoyed the innovation as it paired perfectly with the meal. The Congri (Cuban rice with black beans) was good and moist. I do like a little more cumin in mine but it was still a very good Congri. The creamy mojito did not make it into my photo but left me wanting more. There was a dressing size container of a creamy, garlic and lime spread!! This mojito pairs perfectly with meat and I will be sure to ask for an extra one next time. I have also had the Paella and Ropa Vieja here and they were excellent. I look forward to going back and working my way through the menu. The service is excellent. Yes, they are really Cuban so if you don't speak Spanish just do the best you can because this is authentic Cuban food! There is covered outdoor seating here but since it was cold and rainy I headed to the indoor seating to enjoy my meal.

Solid sandwich with meat cooked just right. I do wish there were more condiments and additions to the sandwich as its flavor profile was relatively one dimensional. The guy in the cart was friendly and inviting but the sandwich did take quite a while to come out. I did like the seating area, as it was well kept and covered.

Ate at the 92 Ave location. I lived in Florida, and the food at this location did not resemble any Cuban food I have ever eaten!

I came after a review I read on Eater for FoPo area eats. I'm not a huge fried food fan but this place was good. I got the Steelhead trout fish and chips. Wait was ok they give you a buzzer so you can stroll around the food court. Took about 10 mins not bad. The locally sourced steelhead was a delicious surprise. Tender, juicy fish with crispy breading. Good seasoning. Fries were thicker so not as crispy but still hearty. 3 medium sized pieces of fish. They included ketchup for the fries as well as malt vinegar and tartar sauce for authentic fish dip. Wedge of lemon, too! All in a earth-friendly cardboard box. They take credit just fine. Very convenient location at Carts on Foster just down the street from where I was staying. So I walked back and enjoyed there. If you're staying you could probably cruise over to any local breweries or the bar cart for a beer to complement the fried food. Good time!!!

The food truck is located inside a food truck plaza with plenty of options nearby and ample outdoor seating with picnic tables. This particular food truck had a long line, which made the wait to order a bit lengthy. However, it was well worth it. The woman taking orders was incredibly kind and bubbly, which added to the overall experience. After ordering, the food took about 20 minutes to come out, but I did not mind since the sandwiches ended up being really good. The sandwiches were flavorful and very filling. Honestly, I probably could have been satisfied with just one sandwich. Overall, I thought this spot was worth the wait. I would definitely come back if I were in Portland again.

Overall: 4.2/5 Tried the Original Tokyo sandwich and the chicken nanban. Original Tokyo sandwich is excellent, with a really good mix of flavors that combine really well. Probably go at a less busy time (weekday) but worth it for visitors.
