We shared empanadas-I swear the best either of us have ever had and I have traveled extensively in Mexico and Detroit has a huge Mexican population with corresponding restaurant scene. Came her after finding the place next door (Waikiki" didn't have a good menu as we thought it would have. The waitress was super friendly and knowledgeable of the menu and great places to visit on the island. I had the fried snapper, it was very tasty, small, but tasty. The vegetables were nicely seasoned and a good addition. I originally ordered beans but I found out that Puerto Rican's LOVE pork, so everything is kinda cooked in it. On the last day of our Puerto Rico trip, my fiancé and I found this gem. Originally we had tried to get reservations elsewhere, but I'm glad we didn't. The service was great, the food was delicious! For once I forgot all about chips and salsa because the shrimp ceviche appetizer was bomb! With a hint of lemon and a side of a potato side chip it paired very nice. I got the grilled chicken with fries and let me tell you, those fries tasted fresh and crispy!! The whole meal did not feel heavy and after eating, my fiancé and I rode back to our hotel with the scooters we had set aside for a later ride. I can't wait to go on vacation and go back! read more

This message is addressed to the owners of this restaurant as they might not be aware what a terrible and petty management they hired, who not only ignored the special request made to them in advance, but who argued and yelled at me. The manager had one job, made even easier via Open Table to bring the most of the experience to the customer, and he failed to handle. He didn't read my comment about my special request made 20 days in advance to save a table to watch the sunset during the birthday dinner for my husband. I also left instructions about the birthday candle for desert, which makes me think he never read my comment and that's why he was yelling at me fighting over the use of words, completely ignoring the fact he was ruining someone's birthday while he tried to cover up his mistake. The thing that made us angry is that this manager fought with me over the word "window", which I didn't mention. So dear customers, you can be offered to watch the sunset from the restroom, from the last raw of the tables, because they are all located "oceanview". And by the way, the place was literally empty and had only 2 tables for 2-4 ppl by the window already occupied with the customers, and a big empty table for 6-8 ppl which I asked if he could transform it into single tables and arrange that party in a second row. Which the manager refused to do so. Also, this manager made Open Table to believe that I was a no show to the reservation which I clarified with the open table that it is not correct. Another petty thing and demonstration of ugliness. The experience was terrible, I felt sorry this manager spoiled my surprise for my husband's birthday. I was very excited to dine at this place as I've done a lot of research on the local restaurants with high reputation to find out that this one has the worse management you could possibly find. On a good note, this incident brought us to the next door place, Waikik bar, which we loved, with the beautiful open ocean view terrace, which Havana doesn't have by the way. Omgggggg please please try their seafood risotto!!!!! Absolutely delicious!!! You will not regret it. I don't usually order appetizers but this time I decided to go with grilled octopus... it's a must!! The most delicious octopus I've ever had. If you like hot sauce don't forget to ask them for their famous green sauce!!! It Taste amazing when eating the risotto and the octopus. Service here was great. We first showed up to the place next door... Waikiki and they closed early. We asked for a recommendation and said no one was good. So we went next door to Havana's best section ever. The services was incredible. Is being Mexicans this was the only place that had hot sauce. They as well brought out a birthday cake for me as my boyfriend requested one. The entire staff was extremely professional highly recommended it. read more

Stopped into thr Havana for a late lunch. Atmosphere was relaxing, wonderful views of the ocean and very clean. Thr wait staff was attentive and very polite. I asked our server what he recommended and he said the steak monfogo so thats what I got. Portion size was HUGE and this sauce so so delicious I could bathe in it. After getting treated like shit at Wicked Lilly's we went to Havana's. My wife is Cuban and this place is a Puerto Rican - Cuban fusion. Well this place is authentic! I had the octopus appetizer which was good,. The empenadas were phenomenal. My main course , Vaca Frita a la abuela was amazing. My wife's shrimp ajilo was fresh with a savory flavor. Guava and cream cheese flan to finish,. More on the cheesecake side than flan but still very tasty. Service was good, received our food quickly and the view was beautiful. The only slight negative was it seemed as if we were getting a bit rushed to leave. We were only there for a bit over an hour. read more

I ordered the fried red snapper and it was the absolutely terrible. It was old and smelled bad. I was so hungry i ate it, am regretting it, as i got sick the next day. The waiter acknowledged that the fish was old. He said. " I will go tell the cook again". So evidently he was well aware he was serving bad food. Stay far away from this restaurant. read more

Was on a family vacation and stumbled on this gem looks small from outside but it is very spacious. The food was AMAZING we were in town for 4 nights and ate here 2 times. We regretted going to another restaurant and wished we would have gone here every 6. We had a group of 10 people and everyone enjoyed there meals. The fried snapper was great as well as the mofungu, both the chicken and shrimp. But I absolutely loved and think about often is the black bean risotto OMG I will fly from New Jersey just for that our waiter Austin was great. We requested him on our 2nd visit. He was patient with our group, explained meals we weren't familiar with, made great suggestions and was just a pleasure to talk to. Big shout out to Mario and Ruben. They make this place happen. These guys are great and treat you like family. The Pina coladas and mojitos are fantastic. Ruben introduced me to the house shot(must try) and a rum and anse shot which I will never remember the name. The wife made me go here about 5 times a day during our stay for a to go cup. I was very badly treated by the manager/ owner whate er he is, who is extremely rude and has 0 sense of customer service . I arrived around 7:30PM (mind you it says online that closing time is 10PM) . I was seated by a waiter who took my order for a drink and left. In the meantime the manager arrived out of nowhere (skinny bold guy in his 40's) propting me to hurry up and order ...How i do that if no waiter is around? I went ahead ordered with him he was speaking super fast and being annoyed at my questions about the dish he was super rushing me. The dish arrived and was ULTRA salty so I mentioned saying I couldn't eat it still was being nice even though my experience sucked. He came back annoyed again and telling me that he could make a lobster to go but regular. I accepted, he came back with the check which was for the initial failed lobster I asked why I was charged for the one I did not eat. He took the check annoyed again and adjusted the price. This guy is super rude the waiters were nice. Never putting a foot in this place again. This dude needs manners and education about how to manage a restaurant and apply customer service appropriately. I spoke to him at the end and stopped being nice told him to not seat people if that is to rush them out, this dude accused me of seating myself....what is wrong with him. Save your money and go elsewhere. Macdonald's will treat you better than this place. Worst restaurant experience of my life. PS: most basic Lobster I ever had once I got home. Wasted $70. TOURIST TRAP. Saw good ratings online so we decided to go here for a birthday dinner. Getting in was easy but everything was underwhelming and overpriced for the experience. We ordered fried calamari for an appetizer which were very chewy and lightly golden and served with what tasted like a small cup of tarter sauce and a small cup of marinara sauce. It was the worst calamari I've had. For dinner we ordered the Shrimp Linguini and the Cazuela de Mariscos. The Shrimp Linguini came out with tails on the shrimp and the pasta was thick with sauce and tasted like macaroni and cheese. It was bland and not what we expected. The Cazuela de Mariscos was just okay. We asked for a side of rice and beans which were served separetly and the beans tasted straight from a can. We also ordered two cocktails which were not as strong and worth the value of those we ordered from Raices. As for dessert, we were hopeful for something better and ordered the flan which looked nice but tasted like cinnamon cheesecake. I regretted the amount of money spent and learned that this restaurant, among others, are the places NOT to go to if you want authentic Puerto Rican cuisine. I came to this restaurante almost 3 years ago and LOVED it! Mario was so incredibly welcoming. I remember I had ordered the chillo frito and before frying the fish he brought it out and showed it to me raw, so that I could marvel at the freshness and quality of the fish. The meal was perfect, tostones de pana fresh and crisp and the house mojo sauce, was like nectar of the Gods. The first time I came to this restaurant I literally stumbled upon it. And it was such a delightful experience, from the quality of the food, to the owners impecable and friendly service, to the family ambiance, there was even light salsa music playing and we felt welcome to dance around our table, it was simply ideal! I thought about returning to this restaurant literally for over a year! but never had the opportunity to come back since I live in SJ area and don't frequent the west coast too often... However when some friends and I decided to stay in Rincon over the weekend my only plea was that on our way back we stop once again at Havanas so that I could enjoy a perfect meal once again... However when we arrived I quickly become sadly disappointed, as I realized that so much had changed! There was extremely loud merengue rapiao and bachata playing on two huge speakers blasting from inside the restaurant out onto the street. After a couple minutes sitting we could hardly hear each other talk, or even hear ourselves think! The bar looked different, like it hadn't been kept up, and the menu was smaller, seems as though they decided to cut out some options. Right away I thought... it MUST be a different owner. My friends and I proceeded to order the food, I once again ordered the chillo frito, come to find out they no longer served tostones de pana. Everyone else ordered other items from the limited menu. When my meal came out, it was practically inedible, it was truly evident that the fish had been reheated, either by microwave or refried in old oil. It just WAS NOT GOOD! I asked for the mojo sauce so that I could try to make something out of my meal, only to find that the quality of the mojo was no longer the same, it was now merely olive oil, and pico de gallo with some cilantro. Everyone picked at their food in the same unimpressed way.. and as you can imagine I was highly disappointed and even embarrassed that I recommended the restaurant with such enthusiasm! Finally, as we concluded our meal, I inquired with waitress, the name of the owner, to my shock it was the same owner! He came out from the back kitchen and well honestly he looked tired. Something had definitely changed in him, he was missing the fire and passion that he once had when I first met him. He was lacking love, and you could taste it in his food, and feel it in the ambiance. All in all I give a 2/5 stars. Not because the second time around was worthy of two stars but because I know that this restaurant and the owner/chef have REAL POTENTIAL! I don't know what went wrong! But it was disappointing to say the least. I truly hope that the owner reads this and that he becomes inspired to reflect upon himself and perhaps once again put the same amount of love in his restaurant, as he had before! read more
