Food 5/5, Service 5/5, Ambiance 3/5 Food: We went for dinner and ordered the hot honey chicken sandwich and the fried chicken dinner. It was seasoned well and delicious. The yams and corn bread gave a nice homey vibe. The brioche was well appointed on the chicken sandwich. Service: Our server was very accommodating and friendly. She met our energy and it was nice to feel like we were being taken care of by an old friend. Very chill vibes from the waitstaff. Ambiance: We sat by the door and so it was a little cold because it was a chilly day. The music was extremely loud, like shaking my innards loud but that is ok, if that is your vibe. The selection was base heavy and perhaps that was intentional to lean into the chill vibe but it was a little bit much. Overall, I would go again but I would make sure not to be sat by the speaker (we weren't but if we had been, it would have been deafening) Overall, a homey vibe in the city. First off - I really wanted this place to succeed. Upon entering it just felt like hope was lost.. from the smell of old grease to the unironed tablecloths. The drink menu was boring, I had the Big Apple and it was fine. The food was so meh.. except the spaghetti! Spaghetti from the south is my soft spot and it delivered. But the fish was so under seasoned, the sauce too, on top of super dry rice. Idk I just hoped for more so maybe I'm projecting.. I just didn't feel the love I expected. I really hope they can survive because we truly need a restaurant from this POV in Wichita. read more

I tried Haven for the first time and it was a great experience. The restaurant itself is nice and inviting. Great for family, date night or friends. Staff are friendly with good customer service. My friend and I enjoyed our food. I had the Cravin' Haven Pasta which was super tasty, from the pasta sauce to beef sausage to the blackened chicken. 8/10 recommend. I ordered the Haven Punch 8/10. Tasted good and wasn't watered down. My friend had the Spinach Artichoke Dip and Haven Wings. She ordered traditional half bbq and half Asian sweet heat. She felt that that both wing flavors were good but she really liked the sweet heat. She liked the flavor of the dip. I sampled the spinach dip and salsa that came with it. The salsa had a nice kick to it. The flavor of the spinach dip was pretty good. I'd give it a 7/10 overall. I also ordered food to go for my parents and sampled the food. I ordered them the Southern Catfish Dinner with greens and Mac and cheese. My parents really enjoyed the fish and sides! I tried the Mac and cheese it was 9/10. The greens were cooked with turkey meat and is definitely a 10/10!!!! I loved those greens! I can't say what the cornbread tasted like as they forgot to put it with the meal but I wasn't upset. I ordered some wings to go as well. Half Cajun buffalo and sweet heat. I enjoyed flavors. Out of the two my favorite is the Cajun buffalo. Stopped in here just for a quick drink but, next time I'm in Wichita I definitely will be eating here because the menu excited me. I got a sidecar and the bartender warned me she made it a little strong, all good by me that's how I like it. I came in pretty late, no one else was in the restaurant, however the service was still friendly and they had no problem with me ordering a drink at the bar all while letting me look at both their brunch and dinner menus. I loved that they properly sugared the rim of the sidecar and you could taste the orange liqueur. It was well balanced also, the citrus cut nicely through the deep cognac flavor. We were basically held hostage for nearly 2 hours on June 10 6:52 PM: Husband arrives, seats himself at an open table. Restaurant has two large parties already taking up most of the space and an open bar. Our table is crammed directly next to one of the parties. 6:53 PM: I arrive as well as 2 other girls who sit at the bar. Husband orders a lemon drop (no rim). 7:00 PM: Live music starts, way too loud. Drink arrives with a sugared rim and tastes more like a margarita than a lemon drop. We let it go. We order. Husband orders salmon cooked medium with mashed potatoes and broccoli. I order pasta and choose garlic bread when asked cornbread or garlic bread. I use the restroom and discover the women's room lock is broken. 7:00-7:45: We wait. And wait. A woman in street clothes (not clearly an employee) stops by our table to say food takes longer because it's made from scratch. 7:45: Waitress finally returns and offers us side salads. We accept because we're starving. 8:00: GM (red hair) delivers the salads, apologizes, asks how long we have been waiting for our salads, and offers a 50% discount. She says they "didn't expect to be this busy." The salad bowls, ramekins, and ranch are warm. The salad itself is room temperature, they've clearly been sitting out. The girls at the bar had gotten their food. 8:17: Husband's salmon arrives. Staff says they're still waiting on chicken for my pasta. 8:18: My pasta arrives. Husband's salmon is visibly overcooked and dry, glaze turned to a watery puddle. Potatoes are crusty on top, thick and gluey underneath. 8:22: A single barely-toasted slice of bread with minimal butter and a whisper of garlic arrives... after I'm nearly done eating. 8:29: We pay with the gift certificate and wait for the transaction to be resolved. 8:29-8:40: We sit with no update. The GM had put the certificate in the register and forgotten about us entirely. 8:40: Husband walks to the bar himself to sort out the remaining balance (certificate didn't cover tax, gratuity, or the drink). 8:42: We finally leave. Called in a order for pickup, understand that this is a new restaurant and there will be some hiccups. Ordered the catfish sliders and they were bland with no seasoning, presentation of them were great. Collard Greens were so spicy I could not eat them. Pound cake was hard and tiny for $8 Yams were semi sweet but ok. Okra was a tiny serving for $6 and was not seasoned The baked spaghetti was very good. My wife and I were traveling through Wichita after church on a Sunday and somehow stumbled into Haven, which sits in one of those strip mall spots where you don't expect much and then suddenly your whole lunch becomes a religious experience. We walked in, were greeted right away, and seated quickly. The restaurant was about half full, which was perfect because I like good food but I don't like fighting a crowd like I'm boarding a cruise ship. Our waitress, Cayla, was fantastic. Friendly, attentive, and on top of everything without hovering over us like she was trying to sell us a timeshare. We ordered a carafe of mimosas because it was Sunday and we had already been to church, so clearly we were spiritually covered. I ordered the fried chicken with collard greens, yams, and cornbread. My wife ordered the blackened catfish with dirty rice and fried okra. Let me just say this plainly: if this restaurant was in my hometown, I would be there so often they'd either name a booth after me or ask me to start helping with rent. The fried chicken was moist, flavorful, and generous. The collard greens were absolutely amazing. The yams were cooked perfectly and tasted like somebody's grandma was back there guarding the recipe with her life. My wife's dirty rice was a hit, and the blackened catfish was delicious. Even the fried okra showed up ready to impress. My only complaint is that there were no desserts to try, which felt personal after a meal that good. I was fully prepared to make another bad decision and they denied me the opportunity. The people in the restaurant were friendly and talkative with us travelers, which I loved. Cayla was great, the food was exceptional, and honestly the price was way too cheap for the value. Great service from beginning to end. Kept extra water on table. Enjoyed drink special which isn't typically on the menu but well done. Fried chicken feast was delicious. Collards were meaty. Sweet potatoes were sugary, soft version which I love but if you don't they would sub that out. Salmon was delicious. Enjoyed the sides as well. Owner came by and spoke to us and was very pleasant and explained how they were rolling things out. The blackened catfish was ok, not nearly as flavorful as the other items. Took the wife to Brunch after church. We wanted to support the new business. The atmosphere was amazing, but the menu was not that great. I found out that you can't order the dinner menu until 3pm. We don't eat beef or pork, so the brunch menu was limited. I ordered the shrimp and grits, and the wife ordered chicken and waffles. We got our food, and the chicken was burnt, told the waiter and he had the chicken remade. Mind you we don't eat pork. The shrimp and grits were made with pork sausage in it. Nothing on the menu states any PORK in the shrimp and grits. I can say my meal was comped. As for the chicken and waffles? The new chicken arrived and it was hot, the waffle had to be the original waffle with the burnt chicken because it was ice cold. Again, we really want to support the business.
