The staff are active listeners and responsive. And everyone is so cheerful. My husband likes the fact that maintenance is on site and available on call in case of any emergency. They tell you they have a good medical alert system in place and will notify you in an emergency. (Primary reason we are there.) Not so. My father fell and no one was alerted or notified. He was alone and a caregiver aid I privately hired found him on the floor with injuries. I brought this to the attention of management. No response. Nothing. No follow up. Just a blank stare. So, don't expect anything in terms of emergency. Residents are in their own. Meals are rigid. No flexibility whatsoever. The meal system is difficult if you don't want to race to a meal 30 minutes early then wait for an hour and a half, then, you are out of luck. Unless, you want to fill their forms out 3 times per day for every meal. Just a ridiculous system. Yet, you pay for it. Billing is terrible. No statements. They don't explain charges and they don't correct charges. They overbill. They sell you on the monthly charges and claim it's month to month. They rush you through a lease with errors. Then you find out it's a 3 month minimum and an additional 30 day notice. They don't disclose this at the outset. They state it's month to month. Just terrible business practices. Very false advertising and misleading. If you object or complain, they just ignore you. I'd be careful staying here. I think, they are dishonest.

Someone claimed I said something which was far from what I actually did say and instead of hearing my side of the story, the DON fired me instead of attempting to mediate the issue. I never called out and was always on time and took great care of my residents. so the fact that I got fired was completely shocking to me. it was disheartening because there were a lot of residents that told me I was great. I still recommend the facility to people looking for homes for their loved ones because I know what a great place it is.

Seemingly yes in the public areas. - Are there basic systems to make sure your loved one in Independent Living (IP) isn't found dead days later. Yes. - Other than that, it is so very challenging to provide a review of all the issues related to: -- lack of follow-through by IP staff with family caregivers, -- lack of the same by the medical department, and even more so when (gosh forbid) your elder has to go to Rose Court because RC and Medical don't seemingly share data on your loved one. (BTW, the emergency care team at RC is great in and of itself.) Keep your loved one away from the live-in side of RC except for those in deep need of 24X7X365 help. It's a lock-down unit. --lack of staff owning up to/ responsibility not doing their jobs Are the grounds lovely, yes. Is the food really a 1/2 step down from anywhere you don't want to eat again, yes. The local HS kids try to provide good service but fall short. I will admit it can't be easy on the dining room managers to manage the quality of food delivered, food prep itself and training kids in hospitality to serve seniors. And all this for a $250K* buy in (1bdrm) plus ~$2K a month rent with one meal included. Lots of activities are available but I can't speak to the quality. 90% returned to estate when resident dies. *Price from about 5 years ago so this has probably increased. I'm just so frustrated. It's too late for my person to leave because it would be too much disruption. I will keep on advocating and try not to lose my mind. For whomever reads this review, survey all the options and if LP keeps rising to the top then know you will need to be your person's absolute advocate at every turn, with every interaction. Get yourself a notebook and keep it with you to track every interaction.

You put up a huge sum of money to move in, and then pay an outrageous monthly fee that amounts to a condo fee, with a meal plan thrown in. The food is mediocre at best. How they can possibly justify their $4,000+ a month fee (when you've already given them hundreds of thousands to pay for your apartment) is a mystery. They put my mother, who has dementia, in an ambulance one day and NO ONE CALLED ME. My mother was on a gurney in the hospital, alone, for 12 hours before a nice nurse took pity on my Mom and helped her to call me. I would have rained hellfire down on them for this, but my mother was still living there and I didn't want them to take my fury out on my Mom. Mom is at a new place now where for NO deposit and a bit more each month she gets three meals a day, laundry, and housekeeping done for her. Linden Ponds charges extra for EVERYTHING. It was a very happy day for me when we drove out of their, never to return.

The five of us have had many discussions before and mostly after our mother chose to move into this exceptional facility. Right from the first visit mom felt as if this place could be her new home. Her coments were "homey" and "comfortable". And boy was she right. We were all pleased that she found a place where she would feel comfortable and relaxed. At 97, comfort was the best medicine for her final five years. That's right. This being the right place for her was a major reason she lived to 102. But it wasn't just the layout and character of the building, inside and out. It was the amazing staff. A staff who made her feel as though she was with family. Such an atmosphere of care and compassion. Taking care of her every need. Which made it very easy for her children to come and go. And we did. All through those final years we watched mom relax and mix with the community. She was happy and comfortable. Comfortable in her new home but just as comfortable with her new community. This facility works so well with so much individual attention, mom was able to be herself and enjoy time with the neighbors. Believe me this could not be the case in some of the other larger places she looked at. Mom's family, her kids, spent a good deal of time there and we had so many rewarding interactions with everyone of the staff members. Each with their own strength and every one of them with a cheerful approach. The five of us, along with our partners and children will be ever thankful to the wonderful staff, in every area, and the residents who treated mom like a sister. I know that each of us would highly recommend this organisation for anyone seeking indepent living arrangements for a loved one.

We chose New Horizons at Choate in Woburn which is part of the Cummings Foundation. It is a non-profit facility for independent and assisted living. From the moment we walked in we knew this place was something special. It wasn't the fanciest or the biggest, but all the people were warm and welcoming. The place was "alive". My mother ended up spending 6 1/2 wonderful years at Choate. Even through the pandemic she was kept safe, fed and was visited by staff. She passed away suddenly on February 3, 2023 at age 93 1/2. The staff at Choate love working at the facility. Because of this they have amazingly real longevity. There are college students who help serve meals to earn college scholarships. There are ice cream socials and parties. The activities and games vary depending on the clientele at the moment. There is always Bingo, educational programs, music, art, movies and exercise classes. There are van trips to the local museums, sight-seeing and stores. If you have a car you may park it on-site free of charge. They have a hairdresser. They serve three amazing home cooked meals a day, and coffee, soda, wine, snacks are all included. My mother also played Bridge, joined the book club, played trivia, Scrabble, Poker and Texas hold-um. Because there are only 100 beds, the meals come out hot, and one always has a choice for meals. My mother was always impressed with the holiday meals, which often included huge cocktail shrimp, filet mignon and Limonchello cake. There is always great dessert! We share this review because we think New Horizon's at Choate is a top notch, five-star facility. Not a fancy place, but truly an environment filled with love, caring people and staff.
