Look at the first ingredient chocolate chips....woah!

Going back to my roots... Oh my gosh and thank heavens for Hawaii Candy as places like Ishiharaya has closed many of these beloved timeless locally snacks are so much harder to find. Located in the industrial area outside the airport right below the rail lines which are still in the midst of the construction not really sure of the parking situation though I found some street parking nearby you're able to see the sign from the street you just need to walk in to the back for the entrance. Who has grown up eating Waffles-o-roll and Red Coconut Balls *me!* and to still see their showroom filled with that nostalgic vibrant packaging and that classic logo we're familiar with got me in a state of confusion as I didn't know they also have many other items as well like seasonings, beef jerky, even the Chip & Cookie where I was told if you look in the back the first ingredient is chocolate chips...woah!! What I also had no idea is they have "Butter Wafers!" the very same as the rolled just unrolled lol! Along with that each wafer is stamped with a Hawaiian design which I absolutely love and they come in three flavors (Original Butter, Coconut, and Matcha) and I can see my besties in the Mainland would love these to pair with their sips. Supporting local and all made in Hawai'i I grabbed a bunch of goodies and they're able to make anything into individual party favors which is a great idea and who wouldn't want these lovelies!!! Before I got on my way, I was given a pack of Butter Wafer for the road (So thoughtful!) the showroom is quite small but is very nice vibe to showcase all of their goodies, the staff is just a delight, and you can absolutely call in your order so that there's no wait time for them to gather the items. Thank you!

    Giant Fortune Cookie - VN
    Vince N.

Established in 1933 by senbei-maker Shochi Ohta, the Ohta Candy Factory made famous the little red balls of coconut candy still found in Hawaii stores today. The product list has grown to include fortune cookies, seasoning salts, macadamia nut candies, sweet potato & taro chips, rice cakes and the colorful puffed rice snacks. THE GOODS: Giant Fortune Cookie As I entered the break room at work, a big box loomed on one of the tables with a note taped to the outside with a motivational message from the higher ups. Inside the box were these larger-than-normal fortune cookies, individually wrapped for the taking. Being accustomed to the flavor of the Panda Express recipe, my hopes were high for this locally-made version, and they did not disappoint; not only for their size but also for its crunchiness and creaminess. And of course my positive message inside didn't hurt! OVERALL: One of the good things about Hawaii...

Fresh mochi - straight from the source! I would have never thought of going to the factory for this brand of mochi and senbei (wafer style cookie). My friend from Virginia (she was born in Hawaii) had an idea to go to Hawaii Candy, Inc. She said, "It's on Ualena Street" - like I knew where that would be... Haha! We used GPS which brought us to an area by the airport. There's a one way road with an unfinished section of "the rail". We weren't sure if the warehouse was open to the public, so - we parked in the lot and called their phone number. A very pleasant female voice welcomed us in. She said that they had a small retail area (lanyards, okoshi, wuntun strips, etc. can be purchased here). We told her that we were right outside and she laughed! I didn't get her name - shucks! She was so sweet and kind. She asked us how we found her and where we were from - the Aloha Spirit hospitality in action! Then - she made every effort to make my friend's wish come true... My friend said that when she goes to the store, she sees peanut butter mochi - but only one tray. She would like to bring some back to the mainland and also get some for her brother who will be leaving for the mainland, too. The nice lady explained the production and delivery process - then made arrangements for pick up of the special order. Fantastic! In the meantime, I read Jessica P.'s review of how she worked with this company to get special fortune cookies made for her parents' anniversary party! Whoa! I'm really happy about finding this small local business! They listen to customers and go out of their way to make dreams a reality. I will keep them in mind for future needs!

The gold organza bag I stuffed with the fortune cookies and other goodies for my parents' 50th Golden Anniversary
    Jessica P.

In my search for "Thank you" party favors for my parents' 50th Golden Wedding Anniversary, I discovered special fortune cookies made by Hawai'i Candy online. Their website features popular snacks such as wun tun strips, macadamia nut coconut balls, and a variety of cookies. Yum! I decided to visit their shop to place an order for individually wrapped fortune cookies containing a personalized message. The shop was a little difficult to find, but after catching a glimpse of the Hawai'i Candy sign on the side of a street facing building, I parked and found the small shop while on foot deep into a driveway. Upon entry, I was greeted by friendly faces and wonderful customer service at the front desk by what appears to be a small family owned business. They explained the personalized fortune cookies in detail and even had samples on hand to get a better idea of the final product. The small fortune cookies are actually pretty big! It was about the size of my palm and tasty! I decided to create the personalized inserts myself to avoid paying an additional $25 in printing charges. A message was printed on both sides and then cut into a 2-1/2" x 3/4" size. I then went back a second time to place an order for 50 cookies (25 minimum) with a 5-day turnaround. The final product of 50 pieces was packaged into a Hawai'i Candy box ready as my hand-carry to Las Vegas. Each cookie was wrapped with Hawai'i Candy cellophane for a total price of $0.55/each. After placing each fortune cookie into a gold organza bag containing a few other giveaways for the Golden Anniversary celebration, I thought it turned out to be a great "thank you" treat from Hawai'i!

We've always enjoyed the treats from Hawaii Candy, and I'm uncomfortable having to leave this review. My concern is that other fans of their goodies may inadvertently eat a tainted product. Last month my wife brought home two tubs of the "Puff Rice Cake". As usual, they were delicious, until I bit into a piece that did not seem to want to yield. I spit it out only to discover a black 'threadlike' foreign object cooked into the bite size treat. This was the first time we've ever experienced any problems with their candy. I attempted to contact them on three separate occasions, informing them of the problem, via their website. I just wanted to let them know about it, so that they could improve the product. Despite these repeated attempts, they've never replied. At this point, I just want to make sure that other buyers be aware.

    Still the YUMMIEST!

Our family "favorite" for DECADES has been the RED COCONUT BALLS from Hawaii Candy! Recently, I purchased a box to take to a relative on the mainland. Unfortunately, the candies were "rock hard" and impossible to bite into! When I returned to Honolulu, I contacted the Manager, CHERYL OHTA, to inform her of our disappointment. To my great surprise and delight, Miss OHTA responded with great aloha, apologizing for this unhappy occurrence, and promised to "make it right," immediately. And indeed she did! It is such a rare occurrence to have a business "stand by" their product and make sincere apologies as well as replacing their product. I am so impressed with her, and with Hawaii Candy - who has been in business for 90 years - and I can't help but think that they will last another 90 years with such sincere family managers, their business integrity, customer appreciation and sincere Aloha! Really wonderful! And the Red Coconut Balls are STILL the BEST EVER, in my 75 years!T

Bought this at CVS in Mililani $5.49 plus tax. What a waste!

I am really disappointed!!!!! Tried your blueberry manju today and hated it. I assumed that there was bean in the filling. Please do something to improve the freshness of your product!!!!

    Great variety !!

We saw some people illegally parked on the street right on the corner, but they didn't care, they would brave a citation just for these amazing treats! I am sure the neighbors who live across from this place think this is a massive headache, to have such a popular chocolate place right in their own neighborhood - either that, or a blessing, since they can just walk right across! There are 4 tiny stalls in the driveway in the front of the Doggie Bakery and this place, but it looks far too challenging to get in and out and onto the main street, which is insanely busy on a weekend. We parked in the neighboring lot and purchased something from another business just so we could get some chocolates here. If the parking situation were better, I'd come back. I purchased the Hokkaido Soft Serve (weekends only, I think), it was delicious but I was expecting more fatty mouthfeel for something that was labeled as "Hokkaido". It was lighter than I was expecting. The chocolates, on the other hand, were fabulous and worth every, expensive, penny. By the way, who the heck nowdays says "worth every penny"? Probably old folks like me who knew what a penny was, and now due to inflation and the Federal Reserve nixxing the penny, it's probably worth 0.0012 cents now. Rainbow Shave Ice - it really does taste like shave ice! I came here mainly for this, as I've heard the hype and the hype is real! Hibiki Whisky Chocolate - nice and lovely. Dubai Chocolate - with gold leaf and everything. The Dubai craze is insane. This was good, but the least of my favorites. Six chocolates + one soft serve = $30.

There was a Spring Dubai Chocolate Bar, delicate mango slices dipped in chocolate, Classic Crunch a le'a (white chocolate, peanut butter, puffed rice cereal, marshmallows, toasted macadamia nuts, dark chocolate chips with a chocolate drizzle), and a trio of delicious truffles (one was definitely rainbow shave ice and two were these had an amazing Hibiki whisky filled center.

Every morning, without fail, people gathered outside waiting patiently for pastries. No flashy signs. No gimmicks. Just quiet consistency. That alone intrigued me. By the second day, my mind was made up. I'm an early riser, so the plan was simple: go on my usual morning run and arrive before the rush. Japanese culture and craftsmanship have long fascinated me. Through close friends with family roots tracing back to Japan, I've developed a deep appreciation for the culture -- the discipline, the rituals, the precision, and the respect for process. There's a beauty in the intentional pace at which things are done. Nothing rushed. Nothing careless. This bakery embodied that philosophy perfectly. The space itself was small, modest, and aromatic. No overdesigned interiors. No influencer bait. Just the comforting smell of fresh bread and butter hanging in the air. Some bakeries hide behind elaborate architecture and presentation, but this place understood something more important: when the product is exceptional, the product becomes the attraction. The pastries ranged from playful and charming to elegant and refined. The Salt & Butter bread was an instant staple -- savory, warm, and impossibly light. The dough practically dissolved like air. Thankfully, nothing felt overly heavy, because I completely lost control of my ordering strategy. The Kobo Kuma -- a soft bear-shaped bun filled with homemade vanilla bean custard -- was perfection. Equal parts cute and comforting. The Cinnamon Roll was solid, but the Haupia pastry completely stole the show. For those unfamiliar, Haupia is a traditional Hawaiian coconut pudding found throughout Polynesia. The flavor here was subtle yet lingering, delicate without disappearing. The kind of flavor that quietly stays with you long after the last bite. Then came the Blueberry Danish -- beautiful, buttery, and perfectly sweet. I didn't even make it to the savory options this time, which honestly just gives me another reason to return. And I absolutely will -- whether back here in Hawaii or perhaps at one of their mainland locations in Los Angeles. Some places become popular because of hype. Others because of quality. This bakery earned its line.

As someone who's vegan, it can be hard to find a dessert I actually feel good about, and this is one of those places. Everything is taro-based and cooked in coconut oil, which I really appreciate. Just a heads up-all of their donuts are taro donuts. The flavors come from the toppings, so if you see something like a strawberry one, the donut itself isn't strawberry--it's the topping. Their offerings change, ( they do have their core donuts that don't change-and I usually go for one "naked"--no glaze. Sometimes I'll get the honey and sea salt one. They also have an app where you can check the menu, keep track of your rewards, and manage gift cards, which makes it really convenient.
