    Quite a variety.
    Mike C.

My shopping list to the island usually includes cookies, not your grocery store brand variety but local as in made and flavors. A trip to Long's/CVS will usually suffice but I've had difficulties finding particular flavors of a particular brand on more than one occasion. When we walked into Lin's seed store, I saw a shelf devoted to these cookies. Never buying cookies here, I was astonished by the variety (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=4L1kZj3sHJ9sGIGzCAaInw&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q). You know, being not local, I had to stock up to form a fair opinion. After bringing them home, I waited a couple of weeks in starting on them. The first one I tried was the pineapple shortbread cookies (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=c_P8OK5V4zyv3JVU1CljCg&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q); the cookies are crunchy and dry which makes for more crumbs. The flavor was okay and it wasn't overly sweet; the pineapple flavor was subtle. My next try was the chocolate chocolate chip cookies (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=XgHlvcGFfDrKaj1kaWBfjQ&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q); being a bolder tasting one, I enjoyed this more and would say it pairs well with that cold glass of milk. As I finished those two, a few weeks later, I opened a bag of the poi & macadamia nut cookies (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=4bWBUWpTcK-8GtK8hs6vSQ&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q). In case you don't know, poi is made from taro, slow cooked to a smooth consistency. Surprisingly, this was my 2nd favorite next to the chocolate as the subtle poi flavor piqued my interest more and more on every bite. The next one that I opened was the coconut short bread cookies (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=H6ScddSI-AlomwtbTjildA&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q); I also enjoyed this one but must caution you that it is on the buttery side, likely hence the short bread description. The coconut having its own butter likely added to the richness. That leaves the lilikoi one which I've yet to try so I may update this if it is something that wows me. Glad to learn of this local business making cookies and not in a mass produced manner. Good for gifting or sharing with family and friends.

OMG.. I rarely write about stuff in a plastic pouch purchased at a grocery store. I was in one of my most favorite stores (Kahala Mkt/Foodland) when an impulse buy triggered me to buy a bag of these Lilikoi Shortbread Cookies, made in Hawaii. I was actually looking for Lilikoi jam at the time. But to what really matters: Super crispy (my love), buttery, tangy and incredibly unique cookies. A total OT and the bag was empty soon. Nothing whatsoever even close to this cookie on the mainland. Serious cookies. For sure. I do not understand why people would buy Pepperidge Farm and Oreo junk when we have this local treasure available.

What are the calories in each cookie?

These are 'real deal' cookies with only classic natural ingredients. If calories are a concern, maybe celery sticks may be a better alternative snack ;-)

Great excuse to go again! There was a line, but it moved quickly. You could tell which items were popular cuz their spot was empty. However, they were quickly replaced. Everything was delicious!!! Hubs had to fast from 6 am for his 2 pm surgery so I thought he would probably be starving and would enjoy a delectable salt and butter roll from here. At $4.50 a piece I consider this a luxury for us. I found a close stall in the parking structure. A very cheerful polite male employee took my order. I had seen two occupied tables as I walked into the shop. Both had matcha drinks. Why not? I asked the young man assisting me, what's the best matcha drink? He said his favorite was banana matcha with extra banana foam. Okay I'll try it. He repeated it to the cashier. So popular there was a wait for beverages to be prepared. Soon enough mine was ready. I think Doc would enjoy this drink. This shop is a working bakery. Many yummy pastries displayed. Menu is posted high up above to choose from. Rather tiny shop with room for customers to stand in line to order and wait for drinks. Clean, busy with a few tables and chairs outside but pretty much in direct sun.

I was on an affogato kick that whole trip and this place did it the best. If you're in the Waikiki area, it is well worth a visit to Kona Coffee Purveyors. I ordered the 100% Kona coffee option and paid the additional charge for it, but the drink itself was poorly crafted. When I politely asked if it could be remade, the response was essentially that remaking it would not improve the quality of the drink. Rather than offering to remake or replace it, I was told I would need to pay the difference to order a different coffee--even though I had already paid a premium for the 100% Kona option. I understand that not every drink will turn out perfectly. What bothered me much more was how the situation was handled. A specialty coffee shop charging a premium for its coffee should be willing to stand behind the drink it serves and make a reasonable effort to correct something a customer is unhappy with. The combination of the poorly made drink and dismissive service made this a particularly disappointing visit.

I think the meat changes but it's usually some slice of meat rather than a sausage or bacon and there's also cooked greens on there that are a little different. The croissant items I've had have all been really good. Today I tried the quiche and it was very good and had a really tasty croissant crust. The egg and ricotta in there was really creamy and custard like. Mushrooms were good but I wonder if this would be even better with Hamakua mushrooms? It would mesh well with their use of local ingredients. The one negative is that the $3.75 coffee was TINY. Granted if you eat there I think you can refill it but kind of a rip off if you're getting things to go. The meat is all pretty pricy but it's local stuff so that's cool. There's also some unique things that you probably can't find elsewhere. I was excited to see venison pastrami and venison liver mousse. Hoping to try some of that stuff soon!

Since it was their anniversary on Sunday, also got their celebratory funfetti cupcake which also like their baked goods did not disappoint. The croissant base of many of their pastries is flaky. When fresh it crunches with every bite that you take. This time around we had the cinnamon roll, mango danish which had a chocolate mochi filling, and their char siu bun. It's such a neat take to have char siu in a croissant. We are used to having it in the doughy bao bread but in a croissant, savory with a crunchy outside tastes so much better. I love sweet but this one wasn't overly sweet, who would have thought that mango and chocolate pair so well together. It's the summer months, fresh mango on pastries. It was the perfect ripeness. For the cinnamon roll, you honestly cannot forget get their cinnamon roll...It's flaky and again the frosting is not overly sweet. Can't wait to get another box of their pastries again soon.
