I came by here the other night to get some dinner with friends! This was my first time coming here and my first time ever eating Hawaiian BBQ. I got the bbq mix combo and some spam musubi! The bbq mix was delicious, I think my favorite part about it was the beef it came with, so so good. The macaroni salad and rice were good as well! The spam musubi was fire! 7/8/20 I came here for lunch as I was driving through for work and was craving something on the healthier option but unfortunately they only had fried foods to offer. I ended up ordered the fried fish mahi mahi. It was delicious, I just wish they had something grilled or baked to offer. My fish came with rice and steamed cabbage. Everything was fresh and cooked right away. This location was very busy and people were coming and going non stop, so I take it, this is a hidden gem type of spot. Stopped for a late lunch yesterday with my daughter, who was unfamiliar with Hawaiian bbq. We each for the No. 1 combo: chicken with rice, Mac salad and cabbage. The server delivered the styrofoam containers to our table and upon lifting mine myself, it felt like it weighed five pounds. We opened up the containers and a bounty of beautiful chicken atop soft glossy cabbage was revealed, along with two scoops of rice and one of the obligatory Mac salad. We were amazed at the amount of chicken served. My daughter noted that "it was a lot of bang for your buck!" We ate as much as we could and brought the rest home for later. It was excellent food. What prompt me to add a review was the overall customer service I experience today going into the restaurant dealing with the manager Sydney. I order from this restaurant quite frequently through DoorDash the last several times I had to call the restaurant to speak with management regarding a lack of utensils , sauce and napkins not place in the bag when ordering through DoorDash. I ordered the spam musubi's had to eat them dry twice due to no sauce sauce. I ordered the curry chicken combo meal and asked for double rice and receive macaroni salad. Management accommodated me with offering a free order of Musubi's over the phone. Today I decided to go into the restaurant After work with my daughter to order dinner & experience the most Unpleasant uncomfortable and unforgettable experience Sydney. I placed my order at the register ordering curry chicken with double rice and spam musubi's Further explaining to the cashier about my DoorDash experience Who directly went over to get the manager Sydney. I will be following up tomorrow with her supervisor her customer service very poor. When she approached me she did not ask how can I help you she continue to complete the transaction of what I ordered until I stopped her to further explain. She was so rude it was unbelievable and embarrassing. She did not allow me to speak when further explaining, she rolled her eyes she had no smile, very unpleasant and when she handed me my food she did not apologize. I thought I'd give this place a shot because I was in the mood for some short ribs. I should've never gone in and just made the drive to CC Hawaiian BBQ on Avenue J. First off, I've never been to a Hawaiian BBQ spot where they don't let you substitute the cabbage for more rice. This place doesn't let that happen so if you want more rice, you'll have to pay extra for another side of rice. Main reason for a 1 star review (wouldn't put any stars if I could) was the crap they decided to cook up and throw in a to-go plate. The meat on the short ribs was dry, tough, and over cooked. I was having to spit out pieces of bone the size of ice cream sprinkles every time I bit off a piece of meat. I feel like the meat I was given had been in the freezer for a very long time and it was just my luck that I was served that meat. To top it off, I had pieces of grill gristle on the meat too. Had about 4 bites of the meat and just tossed it all in the trash. Also ordered a side of spam musubi and the spam smelled like fish. Tossed that in the trash too. I wasted $23 on the crap they're calling food. Save yourself the trouble and don't eat here. Go to CC Hawaiian BBQ or anywhere but here. read more

The katsu musubi isn't bad. Everything else... SUPER SALTY!!! Think, kidney failure salty. The BBQ Cheeseburger patty was a good size, but we weren't able to taste what made it "BBQ." The Loco Moco meat tasted like it was marinated in the Dead Sea. The gravy didn't help; it was made with corn starch so it was gelatinous with chunks, and it was just as salty as the meat. Ive been going here with the family for years. We had one previous cross-contamination instance where the cook went from mopping the floors to meal prep without washing his hands. Today the cashier handled money and went to meal prep without washing hands. Food safety is NOT important here. For this reason you all get a generous 2 stars, and have lost a customer. If this is the spot in front of Costco this is definitely the worst food poisoning I've ever had if I could post this with 0 stars I would. I absolutely love HBBQ, I came in early on a Thursday afternoon. I'm a manger at a restaurant and I typically know when I see certain things I make a conscious choice to not eat there. For some wild reason I decided to give it a shot anyway, despite the Letter B they received from the health department. There was not a single corner in that place that I could say was actually clean. Workers even looked like they didn't follow proper hand washing procedures etc. From the vents to the walls and floors this place was filthy. I saw many violations, but still ate here bc my husband and son were starving, and I didn't want pizza that day. After eating there and using the restroom I saw roaches around the toilet. That's when I knew I'd be paying for this the next day. My son is 3, and this was the first time he got food poisoning throwing up every hour crying that his tummy hurt. Hours later the same happened with me, throwing up every hour and my body aching trying to get this food out. I thought maybe we caught a bug, it wasn't until a family friend told us the same exact thing happened to her and her family months before. DONT EAT THE RIBS, my husband didn't eat the ribs and was fine. I don't mean harm by this review. I hope the owner's can read this and take action on the habits of their crew and up their standards. You're feeding families and kids. You should take some pride in what you do or don't do it, you can kill someone. I've had poisoning before but NOTHING like this experience read more

I chose to go here before closing and I was not welcomed by their workers. They told me they were closed and I told them that online it said they closed at 9pm. According to the cashier, she says, "if it's slow we close early." If they're slow, wouldn't they want to stay open a little longer to bring in revenue?! I'm a visual person first so maybe my opinion and review isn't fair but initially I didn't like any pics on yelp and then when looking at the pics in the store menu it wasn't to appealing to me. First, you cannot call yourself Hawaiian BBQ if you do not have Aloha brand shoyu!!! I will come here again, but not often. I ordered the number 1, Hawaiian BBQ Chicken and SPAM musubi (note on the musubi: it's $3.69, which I thought was steep, but then learned it comes with two pieces). It took some time for my order to come up at almost 5 pm on a weekday. To my surprise, this place was pretty busy! I almost fell out of my chair when I heard one of the three twenty-something ladies at the table behind me say, "What is that loco moco crap?" Blasphemy! Only the most absurd dish in the world that is loved by all! Back to the food: Once my number was called and the twenty-something's had left with their smoothies (really?), I was happy to see chopsticks as a utensil option. I opened my styrofoam box to find a very generous portion of chicken and what looked like an anemic portion of mac salad. Later I would realize some of the mac salad was hiding under the chicken. First impression was that the flavor of the chicken was spot on but some pieces were a bit dry. The white rice was also pretty dry, hence my request for shoyu. They have these other sauces on the table including Sriracha, off-brand soy saucer, teriyaki, and katsu sauce, but no shoyu! (They also have Tabasco and Tapatío, but I'll give them a pass on those because this is California, after all, and I can only assume they are trying to appeal to their audience.) So, Aloha shoyu and dryness notwithstanding, I'm glad I came and checked this spot out. I can tell they are trying but I can also tell no one behind the counter has spent any amount of time in the islands. Too bad for them. I'll be back, but I'll be sure to bring my own shoyu! read more

This place is so unexpectedly good, yesssss. I got their Seafood Mix meal that had 2pcs shrimp, 1 pc mahi mahi & grilled chicken for under $10! It came with rice, cabbage and macaroni salad and was delicious. I especially liked the mahi mahi, it was crunchy on the outside but still soft and delicate on in inside, mm. Be advised that Hawaiian macaroni salad isn't your traditional "American" mac salad, its a little more creamy? I guess you'd have to try it for yourself its really different, but in a weird good way. My sister got the Chicken Katsu/Korean ribs and that was good as well. Its a hit if you like really crispy chicken. Their portions are big so expect leftovers or just save some money and share a meal. Customer service was great here, we were greeted with a smile and treated right, thank you! Hawaiian BBQ is always a good value. Located in the CostCo center next to El Pollo Loco. Plenty of parking. Plenty of seating. Plenty of good Hawaiian BBQ. On a busy Saturday lunch hour, our food arrived 15 minutes after ordering. We got 2 chicken combo plates (BBQ chicken & Katsu). We spilt this to feed three people and even had leftovers. Two thumbs up from me and my two boys. We will definitely hit this place up the next time we have our soccer tournament in the area. read more

The side salad was tasty and the one scoop of rice was just right. Gravy was alright and could be a bit tastier, that's just my preference though. The patty crust was delicious but could be a little less overcooked because it tasted and felt dry on the inside. (Side note: for the mini meal fyi there is only one patty) 4/5 My partner ordered the chicken and beef for $9.41 under the hawaiian combinations description was "our famous BBQ chicken and beef dynamic duo." Both the chicken and beef were delicious and kind of juicy. The beef tasted like it was marinated for a good amount of time. Yummy! This is one of the places we've been coming to since covid has been going on because it usually tastes good even after the drive home. My husband always orders the mixed combo and I like the mini meals. I ordered the curry mini meal one day since I love potatoes and curry and it came with a tiny bit of sauce, no carrots and potatoes. I immediately called in to tell them and they told me they would replace it next time. A couple of weeks later, I called in my replacement order and they said they would give me sauce, but not the meal (meaning no rice and no chicken)..I was flabbergasted. Why would I want to drink curry and not have a full mini meal when they had missing ingredients the first time around..also when I called the first time, they told me the reason I didn't have carrots and potatoes was because they ran out. Yet they didn't mention this when they took the order or handed the complete order to us. Apparently, it was no biggie to them. Customer service isn't the best.
