I've got to give another shout out to Kathy and her quaint little shop! Part casual dining eatery, part take-out food and a small area where Korean and other Asian grocery staples can be purchased. They're a little bit of Seoul in the heart of Lancaster! This isn't a fancy "Korean bbq" with the large booth seating and a grill at every table. All of her foods are prepared fresh to order by Kathy.. after she's taken your order. Bring a little patience, because this lady is a one-woman band and does it all! For takeout foods, if you're seeking a more authentic Korean flavor, let her know your tastebuds are experienced and ask her to season your dishes the way she would for herself. She's had to modify over time to suit the palates of locals who find full flavor Korean dishes to be a bit too much. The place is simple, but clean and orderly. She has a fridge with her homemade kimchi varieties for sale (so tasty!) On Saturday afternoon, a friend called me to ask where to buy natto (Japanese fermented soy beans) in the AV. I laughed and said you'd have to drive to Van Nuys or Northridge.. and then I thought about Kathy. I gave her a call and she said she actually had one small 3-pack on hand, but was planning to go shopping in Los Angeles the next day for supplies (she's closed on Sundays) and if I had a special order, run right over to the store and bring her a picture of what was wanted and she would make the buy and it could be picked up Monday when she was open again. Wow! Now that's incredible customer service that you don't always hear about these days. I couldn't be more impressed! If there's something you want and they don't have it, ask her and maybe she can get it for you if you're not in a huge rush. This place is hands down one of the hidden gems of the Antelope Valley. I love coming here and ordering their japchae and buying a tub of homemade kimchi. I have also tried their galbi and grilled it at home. The meat is so tender and flavorful that it's something I would get for a special occasion. The store is part restaurant part small Korean shop. Although it doesn't have a plethora of items, you can purchase staples of Korean food that you might need for certain Korean dishes. Since we were not offered a menu, we started looking through the pics on the wall. The lady abruptly asked if we were ordering or just looking. I told her we we're trying to figure it out and she just stood by the register (behind her the dirty dishes were taller than me in the sink). We ordered the spicy ramen and bulgogi. Ok, so this is the only place in Lancaster that has nengmyun, or Korean cold noodles. And it has been HOT in Lancaster, and I've been up there a couple times a week for work. So I was craving nengmyun. And I'll be honest, I didn't have high expectations, but in my head I was like, "ok, it doesn't matter how bad it is, or how off the taste, I'm ok with it, because it's nengmyun". So......generally, you would get the plain noodles in broth, and then add vinegar and mustard to taste. Here, they do it for you. Which was...not so good... at least for me. I don't know how much mustard was put in, but it was more than I usually do, and I'm a wimp. And yes, I mixed it around a LOT to try and diffuse the mustard. To no avail. It stung my eyes and made my nose run. And cough. It tasted like kerosene. I finally caved and asked the owner for a bowl of plain broth, and ended up dipping my noodles in that first before transferring to my mouth. That worked a lot better. After that, the nengmyun was fine. The owner is super nice. But I'm not sure I'd go back for the nengmyun, unless I get to add the mustard myself this time. My family loves their Kimchi! Cabbage, Radish and the Cucumber versions are all fantastic! We used to live in Lancaster and whenever we'd head to Arizona to visit my mother-in-law (the nurse) we would stop and load up on all the versions of kimchi for her to enjoy. The lady has very bad customer service. she acted like she did not want to service me. I should had left than but gave her the benefit of doubt because I wanted to try the food. I ordered take out and did not realize that she had not even got my order right until I got home. Maybe if she was rude and had not had bad customer service she would've gotten my order correct. This is my go to place for the last few years, I love this place. If you're Korean or enjoy Korean food this place is it. I buy all my Korean ingredients here. COVID-19 precautions are in place so please be aware of it. Some of us have immunodeficiency, we must take care of our fellow neighbors. Please practice great care with COVID-19, must have a mask especially if you need to order from inside. Best practice is mask up walk in, order and wait outside in your car, just to be safe for everyone. I even call Kathy (The Chef) Emonim, it's Korean for Aunty. Be smart and call ahead, if you're a regular like me. It's easy. Her food is spot on, I love very spicy food and she does it well, just ask for it. I get all my pre-made Banchan here, perfect size kimchee imo...I say this because my teen loves the kimchee here. Ok, it's a battle royal over the kimchee in my home. Life ") made you smile. :-) It's good for you. BTW; kimchee supposedly helps with COVID-19. That's a huge plus imo. This was a delightful stop on the way back from hiking in the Eastern Sierra. I usually eat Korean food in the city I live in aways from here and it was a nice homestyle meal. The lady at the counter seemed gentle too. I got the Yuk-gea-jang or shredded beef soup ($12). The soup was delicious, light yet still full of flavor, and not too salty or spicy. I always use the spoon to scoop the broth over the rice and eat it like that. It was like a warm hug from home. I tried the bulgogi combo ($14). It was okay. I wouldn't recommend it unless you're craving it. The ban-chan side-dishes (kimchi pickled radishes, cucumbers, and cabbage) were yummy and delicate and I could have definitely eaten more! The portion sizes were nice but not overfilling - don't come if you're looking to get stuffed! It's a perfect quick lunch stop spot and the wait wasn't too long. Note: When I visited it was a hot day and there was not a lot of air-conditioning so be prepared to be warm! I didn't try it but the Nang Nyun (cold buckwheat noodle soup) or Bi-bim Nang Myun (cold noodles) would have been tasty for a hot day. read more

Don't eat here if you have eaten proper Korean BBQ in the San Gabriel Valley or similar area. Ordered #1 Kalbi, beef short ribs. Meat was dry and evidently not properly marinated. The sauce does little to hide deplorable state of the meat prep. The salad appeared to be just chopped cabbage with thousand island. The kimchi was decent, nothing particular, but obviously from a bottle. For 19.99 + tax + tip, you can do much better than this cafeteria quality food cooked with apathy. read more

We'll be heading back soon for what might be the best Korean BBQ in town. But you need to be prepared in terms of expectations before you go. (Also, call before heading out because there was a sign on the door saying they were temporarily closing a little early.) What is this place? I don't know. I think it's a restaurant where some sweet little Korean lady is just cooking away in the back as if you were a guest in her home and she was busy in the kitchen, and it just happens to sell a few Korean items which account for "Market" in the name. Whatever it is, we thought the food was authentic and delicious. The place isn't pretty, it's just a bunch of utilitarian tables and chairs and menu items photographed for view and choosing on the wall. Don't expect super fast service unless it's a soup, because just as my mother would do, she's taking her time to get it right back there. We started with the Spicy noodle Ram-yon soup. Not knowing what to expect, we asked for it to not be too spicy, but I think we might have shorted ourselves on the yummy little spicy vegetable bits floating in the broth amongst the noodles, and next time I'll just order it the way it comes. This is much better than the Top Ramen soup you pick up in the supermarket :) Our tastebuds were craving Korean BBQ, so we had to order the Gal-bee (Kalbi). The photograph top-left didn't do justice to the $13.98 bento box dinner we both ordered because when it arrived at the table it was in fact loaded high with the cut up Gal-bee (Kalbi). Delicious, served with a side of rice, a small little salad we liked, and then four various sides of pickled vegetables items (cucumber, bean sprouts, a sweet one, and then a mild but flavorful kimchi). Her Kalbi is fantastic, and we were both extremely surprised by its tenderness, the lack of gristle, and little excess fat --- this told us she was buying a very good grade of beef or at least really cleaning and preparing it well from the butcher. Don't expect a fancy place, but expect a very clean spot, with a really nice person cooking your meal, very low price for the quality, and a happily delicious experience. You'll be thrilled to discover this hidden little treasure in a Lancaster strip mall with easy parking. On a side note: she sells Kalbi and some other things already marinated and ready to take home and cook yourself. Wouldn't that be a fantastic reason to pull out the BBQ or grill at home? :) Yeah !!! And for your vegetarian friends, some of the tofu dishes look really beautiful, too. We ended up here for the first time yesterday after getting no answer when calling a more well-known Korean BBQ place in town, and all I can say is that it was a lucky break for us to find this gem. read more

I've been a patron of this restaurant for 20 + years.. Kathy consistently delivers on quality food for a reasonable price. My wife has enjoyed her kimchi for over 15 years, as advertised, the best in the area. PLEASE NOTE: Because of a broken refrigerator at exactly the wrong time, inspectors gave Kathy a C rating; pay this no mind! Everything about her business is grade A! read more
