After eating at different Hawaiian places all around Southern California for several years now I can honestly say that Q and Q is the best. The quality of the food is always top-notch. They have the best macaroni salad, perfectly cooked rice and all of their protein options taste amazing not to mention their portions are enormous! The Hawaiian bbq chicken is top-notch and their chicken Katsu is probably some of the best chicken Katsu around. What makes it especially delicious is their sauce. Their Katsu sauce is unlike any other I've ever had , it's light but super addicting. And their teriyaki sauce is also super delicious. I've also had the beef and it's super tender and well seasoned. My wife took a detour through Palmdale on her way back to Bako and asked if I wanted Sharky's or to try a Hawaiian BBQ spot since we don't have either back home. She knows I love Hawaiian BBQ so obviously I wanted to try a new spot. I was excited when she got home but unfortunately the food was a huge disappointment. The meat was burnt and lacked flavor. The chicken was so dry I nearly choked and somehow even the white rice was dry. I rarely complain or write reviews this negative especially about a smaller chain but the food really needs improvement. There are better independent Hawaiian spots throughout LA and Southern California like Broken Mouth in LA Aunty Maile's in Torrance and Malama Pono in LA that offer better food better portions and better quality for the price. With some improvements I think this place could compete with the bigger chains but to me Ono Hawaiian BBQ is still the best Hawaiian BBQ chain I've tried. Of course there are independent Hawaiian spots that are even better but when it comes to chains Ono is still the standard for me. If this place ever improves its recipes or makes changes to how the food is prepared I truly think it has the potential to compete. I didn't feel like cooking dinner this evening after work and decided to order take out from Q&Q Hawaiian BBQ. Great location, ample parking! Located across the parking lot from Trader Joe's in Palmdale. I walked in to a young lady cleaning the tables and sweeping the floors. The place was immaculate! She gave me a friendly greeting, went and washed her hands and met me on the other side of the counter to take my order. I decided on the Hawaiian BBQ Mix and a Chicken Katsu plate. I planned to serve "family style" at home and asked if the rice and mac salad could be packed separately. I offered to pay for the extra containers, but she said don't worry about it. They do it all the time! I was picking up food for two, and trust me.. we don't eat like birds. Well, when I got home and opened the packages, I couldn't believe how much food was there! The prices are extremely reasonable for those generous portions. Note, the proteins are not sitting on a bed of rice. They're sitting on more proteins! The BBQ beef and kalbi ribs are sitting on 3-4 BBQ chicken thighs. That one dish would have been more than enough for hubby and I, but we love their Chicken Katsu so much, we wanted the variety. I'm not exaggerating when I say 4-5 adults could have easily shared this. So for the two of us, we have plenty of delicious leftovers for lunches. The Hawaiian BBQ mix is delicious! The beef is cooked in a marinade and is tender. The kalbi rib is exquisite as always, and the chicken thighs were tasty. I prefer them over chicken breasts because they're more moist. Maybe it's an Asian thing? The chicken Katsu was cooked perfectly! Light, crispy coating and moist chicken inside. Had I realized how much chicken was in the order, I would have taken a couple more containers of the Katsu sauce! This place seriously needs better management. The work environment is completely unprofessional and disrespectful. One of the managers has shown up to work acting irresponsibly and even caused arguments with employees instead of setting a good example. It's frustrating to see people getting treated unfairly while management looks the other way. I was craving Hawaiian BBQ and only know this place was nearby because I was out shopping so it was early enough that they just opened. The restaurant was very clean and although we didn't get the aloha greeting, the young lady at the counter was very polite and pleasant. Horrible service! I like hot sauce and they only give you one sirracha packet. That's like only giving one packet of ketchup for your french fries. Some people like more. Customer service is trash. Let's start off with how you're not even greeted. We got there about 7:15. Food was out at 7:40. They packaged it to go. My husband asked for some plates and they said we couldn't dine in because they close at 8. We've never been there before and we arrived at 7:15 and that was never stated to us when we were ordering. If she would have told us they closed at 8 and by the time the food was out we'd be cutting it close to their closing time we wouldn't have even ordered food there. However it was still 20 min till closing so we proceeded to eat there because we had 2 toddlers who were very hungry. The whole time the person at the cashier is just staring at us. There was a point where we even thought she was recoding us. Also if you've never been there before you get no help what so ever when you're ordering. The cashier just gives the death stare the whole time. Their menus suck. There isn't even pictures of the food. There's also finding Nemo music blasting loudly which is why the employees are probably sooo moody. Food was good though but not good enough to deal with bad customer service. read more
