    Classic - Honolulu Chicken

Went through the drive thru today for lunch. Unfortunately I was given the wrong plate and couldn't go back to get what I ordered. The Mac salad was entirely too salty today and not edible.

Haven't been here in a long time! A friend of mine came to visit from out of town and wanted to try it. Took him and tasted his meal and it reminded me how good this place was. So naturally I had to go back the next two days in a row to get more first time I got the new Kilauea chicken with the Honolulu chicken and double rice. Second time I had to run the Kilauea chicken back with the Luau pig, double rice again. I'm not a huge fan of the macaroni salad so I never get it but I will say it's not bad, just not for me. I do wish they had a few more options other than just chicken and pork but I'm glad they have some different flavor profiles for the chicken! Service is always great and the associates were nice and helpful!

This restaurant is very laid-back; you place your order on a kiosk, and a worker will bring your food to your table once it's ready. They will also bring you utensils and a selection of sauce packets (e.g. sriracha, teriyaki, BBQ), and that's pretty much all the service we received. I ordered the Kilauea Chicken, which was flavorful. However, pretty much half of the box was rice (they add rice under the protein in addition to having it as a side). It's good for a quick meal, but it won't leave you completely satisfied afterwards.

We visited on Veterans Day because they were giving a free lunch to veterans to thank them for their service, which we appreciated. The cashier who helped us was super sweet and the food came out in a flash! The decor is, of course, Hawaiian with a surf vibe. It was clean. Vibe is casual and would be family-friendly. This has become one of our favorite places for quick food because I have Celiac Disease (gluten allergy) and my boyfriend has wheat and dairy allergies. At the time of writing this, the only food items containing gluten are the macaroni salad and their noodles. We had a chicken lunch entree and pork lunch entree with veggies and rice. The best part was their gluten-free, dairy-free Dole whip that we shared. So good! We had the swirl. We will return again soon!

Pretty sad if you ask me. Opening up a box and it looks like someone's already eaten it and it's not even a full portion like their photos.

45 g of sugar in that Kilauea chicken

Holy sugar bomb. I had limited time before a show at the Improv and swung by here. I ordered their Kilauea chicken, and subbed veggies for the mac salad. That was a $1 upcharge for completely unseasoned, rather mushy vegetables. The chicken comes atop rice, with a side of rice. I wasn't getting heat off of the chicken I was getting SUGAR. It was SO sweet. It also came with a little cup of teriyaki sauce? Was that for the veg? I have no idea. I was not impressed. I later looked up the nutritional information and the classic Kilauea chicken has nearly twice as much sodium as one should get in a day and FORTY FIVE grams of sugar. Forty five! That is more sugar than two snickers bars! I think the quality is on par with food court Chinese food, except for the rice. The rice was perfectly cooked.

Great food, spectacular service! I have no complains. First time trying this place and they knocked it out of the park.

Teriyaki chicken & pork w/ white rice & macaroni salad

My daughter has been raving about this place so I decided to give it a try. It wasn't bad...it was ok. I had the teriyaki chicken & pork combo which came with rice & macaroni salad. I'm glad I tried it but I probably won't go back.

We were seeking a late-night snack after attending a string quartet concert in Addison when we noticed Hawaiian Bros Island Grill was nearby. I've been looking for great Hawaiian food ever since I relocated to Dallas from Seattle a few months ago. You have a choice of placing your order at the counter to your right or on the kiosk when you first enter the restaurant. I placed an order for double rice, a spam musubi, and a small order of the Honolulu Chicken (savory chicken flavored with green onions, sesame, and fresh garlic). On the spam Musubi, the rice was a little undercooked, and the spam was a bit burnt on top of the rice. In addition, there were some fat chunks on the Honolulu Chicken, and I think the same rice was used as the Spam Musubi, which was also a little undercooked.

On a whim, we decided to try Hawaiian Bros, and boy were we pleasantly surprised! TLDR: Amazing service and great food! A must try! We ordered through the app for curbside pickup. They even have a rewards program where you can earn points for free food and other discounts. When I first signed up for the rewards program, it said I earned a free Dole Whip, but the reward wasn't available to add to my order. Maybe it was a technical issue or I may need to wait a little longer after signing up for an account to use it, either way, it gives me another excuse to come back. :) In order to taste as much of the menu, we ordered: Honolulu Chicken Plate with added Mixed Vegetables: this is the perfect balance of sweet and savory. Mixed Plate with Molokai Chicken and Kilauea Chicken: chicken is flavorful, but could use a little more heat in the spice. Mixed Plate with Huli Huli Chicken and Luau Pork: can't go wrong with the classic meats. The chicken is tender and the pork had a perfect hint of smoke. Of course, we couldn't forget a few orders of the spam musubi! Everything tasted great, but I wish they offered ramen slaw as a side. That would have taken the entire meal over the top! The service here is unparalleled! Within a few seconds of parking in the designated curbside pickup spots, we were greeted with a friendly smile and a lot of positive energy! Our order came out quickly and we were left wondering, "if the service is this great for curbside, I wonder how it must be for dine in?" Needless to say, but we can't wait for our next visit.

It has been a few months since my last visit to this chain. Although it is my first visit to this location, I assume the changes are across all locations. Before accepting payment, the kiosk requested my name which I considered odd as I had checked in using the QR code on the app. The forks are now partially wrapped but not the knives, probably due to the low usage. Rather than picking up my order at the counter, one of the employees served it. When the employee forgot my Passion Sun canned drink, she said she would get it. Unfortunately, that was the last time I saw her in the dining area. As I about to grab an employee's attention, the shift leader/manager was checking on another table. Once she was done, I got her attention and told her I was waiting for my drink. She began giving me a geography lesson on the locations of the fountain drinks and canned drinks. As the lesson did not explain why I was without my drink, I let her know that the server said she would be back with my drink. When she returned with my drink, she said she will make sure to do right and left. Like the other employee, that was the last time I saw her. Other than the beverage snafu, the experience was as expected. The Molokai chicken was tasty and the staff friendly.

He repeated, "Chair," so I stood up, and he swapped my chair out for another one. The interaction was awkward and left us wondering what was going on. We ordered at the counter, and the food came out fairly quickly. Overall, the food tasted good, but I was disappointed with the alligator basket. For the price, the portion was very small. It came with only about seven alligator bites and a huge serving of fries. I expected a lot more alligator for what I paid. The food itself was good, but I don't think I'd order the alligator basket again because it just wasn't worth the price.

As a frequent visitor to Hawaii, I can say that the Hawaiian Bros put together plate lunches that are comparable to what you would get on Island. However, this was our first visit to this Hawaiian Bros location. The parking spots were empty and the building looked empty. Maybe it was a little past the dinner hour, but it was Saturday evening. Perhaps people preferred to order online for pickup? Maybe people don't like the uncomfortable metal chairs? Unfortunately for me, the $10 coupon in my email didn't transfer to the online ordering that the email instructed me to use. Rather than pay full price, I asked for help from the friendly guys at the in-person ordering station. Using my phone number, they were able to get my birthday selection into the system. Before I even sat down, my order was ready. It was a mixed plate with huli huli chicken with a nice teriyaki glaze on rice, molokai chicken with a sweet & slightly spicier sauce on rice, with sides of white rice and mac salad. The entrees and sides were all prepared well and were very tasty. There were 2 little cups of teriyaki sauce included, but no soy sauce. We asked, but they don't carry soy sauce. Sorry, but a plate lunch is not complete without shoyu (soy sauce). Somebody missed an important detail here.

While I did takeout, since each onigiri is made to order, it was a bit of wait, albeit a pleasant one with the cute retro decorations and calm atmosphere. This is a late review but when I went, parking was easy and the restaurant was not busy. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Since I wanted to try the different options, I opted for the smaller size for the single flavor onigiris (as seen in the bottom row), which was still filling and delicious. The rice is nice and sticky although the way it is made seems like the rice ball breaks apart a little too easy. The katsu is chopped into small pieces and mixed with a spicy mayo sauce so you get an even bite of crisp, meat, and sauce each time. The spam was good and salty, but it's hard to mess up spam. The two I was looking forward to the most were the larger onigiri (top row), which had a mix of two meats per onigiri: Wagyu and Pork, and wagyu and katsu. It took a little to understand the texture but overall, everything was super delicious. I'll have to come back again and try their other menu options besides the onigiri. I'd love if they are able to open more locations outside of DFW!

It's not a first-date spot because it's hard to hear each other, but it's a solid place to hang out with friends who like the genre. Will I come back? Not actively.
