I've always enjoyed this location, and when everything is prepared correctly, the food is excellent. Unfortunately, the consistency has become very hit-or-miss depending on the day or even the time of day. The vegetables are the biggest issue. Sometimes they're perfectly cooked and well-seasoned, while other times they're nearly raw, lack seasoning, or are sitting in excess liquid from the steaming process. The rice is similar--it can be perfectly cooked one visit and overcooked or undercooked the next. The chicken, on the other hand, is usually excellent and consistently flavorful. My concern is that the side dishes have become increasingly inconsistent over recent visits, and lately they've been more disappointing than not. I hope the restaurant can improve its quality control because I know how good the food can be when it's prepared the way it's meant to be. read more

Hawaiian Bros has a really good birthday offer. A $10 coupon, emailed to me on my birthday month, was appreciated. I suggest that you sign up. As a frequent visitor to Hawaii, I can say that the Hawaiian Bros put together plate lunches that are comparable to what you would get on Island. However, this was our first visit to this Hawaiian Bros location. The parking spots were empty and the building looked empty. Maybe it was a little past the dinner hour, but it was Saturday evening. Perhaps people preferred to order online for pickup? Maybe people don't like the uncomfortable metal chairs? Unfortunately for me, the $10 coupon in my email didn't transfer to the online ordering that the email instructed me to use. Rather than pay full price, I asked for help from the friendly guys at the in-person ordering station. Using my phone number, they were able to get my birthday selection into the system. Before I even sat down, my order was ready. It was a mixed plate with huli huli chicken with a nice teriyaki glaze on rice, molokai chicken with a sweet & slightly spicier sauce on rice, with sides of white rice and mac salad. The entrees and sides were all prepared well and were very tasty. There were 2 little cups of teriyaki sauce included, but no soy sauce. We asked, but they don't carry soy sauce. Sorry, but a plate lunch is not complete without shoyu (soy sauce). Somebody missed an important detail here. read more

Needed some double protein and this place fit the bill. I was not sure what the chicken would actually be like, but it was very tender and not overcooked at all. Another nice feature was that they had sauce in a small container on the side, which was great because the chicken was had a light glaze of sauce on it and was not drenched in it like it was soup with some chicken in it- no it was perfect. My husband and I decided to pick up Hawaiian Bros while in the area. This time around we ordered online, drove through the drive thru, and picked up our order. My husband and I decided to share the Mixed Plate with Huli Huli Chicken, Luau Pig, a Rice Ball, and Mac. They gave us two Teriyaki Sauces on the side. The Huli Huli was Grilled Teriyaki Chicken and it was really good. It had a sweetness to it. The Luau Pig was slow roasted Pork and it was tender. It didn't have much flavor so I added Teriyaki sauce to it. The Rice was plain but it was fluffy and filling. It was a nice addition mixed with the different meats. The Mac has a hint of flavor and was okay. We also shared a Pineapple Flavored Dole Soft Serve for a sweet treat. It was so good. A creamy, light, and not overly sweet soft serve. The perfect end to our meal. Overall the ordering and pickup process was quick and easy and the food was good. read more

Easy to fine restaurant, lots of parking and very clean inside. Was empty when we arrived on a Saturday night which was surprising. Looked like mostly pickup being done. We were greeted as soon as we arrived told we needed to order on the iPad. No menu posted anywhere so we sat down and looked at it on our phones. Ordered and food came out super fast. Surprised no soy sauce in the store but did have teriyaki. Got the hula hula chicken and molokai chicken. Both were good but kinda bland. The rice and Mac salad were cooked well. read more

Portions completely suck. You pay close to $20 for The Big Plate and all you get is about a pound of protein which is way more than the amount of rice you get. The bed of rice underneath is about 1 centimeter thick. And not to mention for the price of almost $20 you get NO DRINK. My plate also happened to be cold so i had to toss it in the microwave. I will not be back. Mori Teriyaki Wok is down the street on Campbell and Nantucket and blows this place out of the water, and is a bit cheaper. read more

If you have lived in Hawaii, then you know that the standard plate lunch with rice, mac salad and meat is a normal offering. Hawaiian Bros doesn't disappoint. They have all of the standard fixings. Today I tried the Kalua pork, although they call it luau pig on the menu. It was tender and moist, but too salty for me. I liked that a pineapple BBQ sauce was included. I don't think this was ever an option in Hawaii, but I certainly enjoyed dumping it on the bland rice. The mac salad was not something I would want to get again. It just wasn't my preferred style. If I come here again, I think I will do the low carb option which means I can substitute the rice and mac salad with seasoned vegetables. That would be a much healthier meal option, so I'm thankful that they offer this. I did the drive-thru. Service was friendly, prompt, and I could clearly hear the woman. I was a little confused which way to enter the drive thru because I could see "Mahalo" signs at both ends. I figured it out by the layout of the order board and window, but I had to do a double take to make sure I entered the right way. Sad to see they use the styrofoam clamshells. This always bothered me on Oahu too. There are environmentally friendly options. I wish they would offer them, even at a higher price. read more

Disclaimer: we had their food during a soft opening, and were not charged for it. That is a pretty awesome way to get feedback early! It surpassed our expectations! It seems like everything defaults to pretty sweet and not very much protein... so if protein is your goal like it is for me I'd recommend looking into getting extra meat and opting for veggies instead of rice. But again, we're excited to go back now that they are fully open. Their service was running like a machine and extremely friendly and it was all working very smoothly. This location is brand new in Richardson, the inside was spotless and beautiful, even the restrooms were impeccable! We didn't much interaction with staff as we walked in and ordered from a machine. I must say the options in the machine were confusing- pages and pages of options but they only have like 8 options, if that makes sense. I got the vegetable plate which was plain but delicious. I haven't eaten cheese in decades, but went for the mac n cheese, but it was a bit strange, but i still liked it. We got the dairy free ice cream which was ok. I know some people say HB is the Taco Bell of Hawaiian food but I don't think that's fair. First of all, the ambiance at HB is cool with tropical music playing, surfboards for tables, and great DIY soda and beverage options (melon drink). Second, the workers at HB go the extra mile whether it's a warm greeting of Mahalo or saying thank you for coming. Finally, the food: Portions are large and tasty. Definitely several steps above Panda in both quantity and flavor. And unlike Panda, Hawaiian tastes great reheated the next day or two. I'm not a fan of the macaroni salad so I either sub out fresh Pineapple or I double up on my rice. Either way, I win. Oh, and for the record I had never had a taco before going to TB for the first time and that opened a door to me exploring other places. I'll preface this review by saying the food is really good & tasty. My gripe is the portions are half the amount as pictured. Portion size is really lacking in the Classic size ...plus it's on top of rice so if there was no rice, it's really not much meat at all. (I could see the rice--the portion didn't even cover rice up.) Maybe customers get better portions in person vs delivery apps?! Btw having rice underneath meat is actually nice to soak up sauce ...just cheats the amount of meat you get imo. The Large size was acceptable but what I would expect this as the Classic size. For a Large size, I'd expect the space to be full but it was 2/3 full & I could still see some rice in between meat. The mixed veggies were actually delicious and fresh. The mac salad was bland and tasted like noodles & watered down mayo. I was not impressed but does not mean it's bad. I still ate it lol but will swap it for something else next time. Pineapple skewers were yummy. The fruit was ripe and sweet. My son really enjoyed the pork with the teriyaki sauce cups. It was flavorful, fatty and juicy he said. I love that you are able to swap sides. Overall my family really enjoyed. I'm just really disappointed in the portions for the price.
