PROS of our dining experience : Fairly empty dining room so plenty of covid spacing. All staff took covid precautions wearing masks and gloves. The buffet is protected by plexi glass and your plate is prepared by a server . Very efficient service . Servers were friendly and our drinks were always filled and plates cleared quickly. Quick dining. It's buffet style so no waiting for food to be prepared. We were traveling home with several more hours on the road and wanted a quick dinner so a buffet seemed ideal. CONS: The bbq completely missed the mark for me in terms of texture and flavor. It was dry and clearly not pit cooked. Tasted more like it was boiled and reheated in an oven. There was no sauce on the meat which would have helped during the cooking process. The three sauces available were mustard, vinegar and a ketchup based one. We did not care for any of them. The vinegar was 100 % vinegar with nothing else added to it. The ketchup based tasted like ketchup mixed with Kraft bbq sauce. We were very disappointed in the lack of culinary creativity in the sauces. Bbq sauce is an art, it can literally make or break the meat and it seemed like an afterthought at Hawg Heaven. Overall, there was nothing on the buffet that was particularly tasty or worth the calories. They offered quite a selection like fried chicken, pork loin and mashed potatoes but everything lacked seasoning and flavor. The only way to put it is the food did not seem to be made with love! I've been a 'frequent flyer' at Hawg Heaven for a long time. The experience, service & food had always been exceptional, but recently it appears success has 'gone to their head'. Last night (10/17) we went with some friends for an early meal at about 5:45P and to beat the soon-to-come suppertime rush. The selection wasn't all we'd expected on a Friday evening & it soon became apparent they were moving leftovers from lunch. The vegetable selection was just fine, but the BBQ was only somewhere close to room temp. The ribs looked great, but were tough & not warm. Both the broiled fish & fried chicken were unacceptable: tough, dry & nowhere near warm. I've had a little experience with food inspection & assume a DHEC inspector would've probably closed them. We've had similar experience recently & assumed it was just a fluke, but it's become more a pattern. Someone overseeing the kitchen is letting food get to the serving line that's not acceptable...or even safe. Assuming this gets read, we'll probably give it another try, but if it isn't greatly improved, it'll be Farm Boy's or the long ride to Shealey's. read more

For the price, it can't be beat!! Go someplace else if you do not like using plastic glasses and plates. Discount price if age 55+. excellent fried chicken and bar-b-que. Shucks, the baked chicken is good to. Be warned, The Mac-N-cheese should be avoided by all dieters. There are fried livers and gizzard too!! I tried to eat on one liver(my favorite), and felt proud that I could stop at 2. My inner self was talking to me mighty fast. There is a nice, fresh salad bar. Typical Southern country buffet. Almost everything is fried. The buffet had BBQ ribs, fried chicken, fried gizzards, fried fish, pulled pork, rice and hash, fried okra, macaroni and cheese, green beans, collards, mashed potatoes, etc. They also have a small salad bar, some desserts and a soft serve ice cream machine. The place is very casual and you serve yourself. I feel it important to mention that the ladies restroom is compact and definitely not handicap accessible. I doubt if even a parent and child or a large size person could fit in there comfortably. I have no idea about the mens restroom. read more

We went to Hawg Heaven on a Sunday. TIME YOUR VISIT... we hit the church crowd. It wasn't too bad but it was busy and we had to wait for a table for a bit. It is a buffet and the servers clear your plates and refill your drinks. There is also a sign that says you need to finish all your plates or you could be subject to an additional charge for wasting food. The BBQ was ok... the selection of buffet items was ok. More chicken than BBQ. They did have livers though so they get extra points. I didn't like that they only had white gray for the mashed potatoes. All in all it was fine but I won't be making a special trip. read more

Flavorless yellow pork product. They call it BBQ, but it doesn't taste smoky or even salty for that matter. Hawg Heaven had pretty good BBQ prior to the divorce, but now it has no evidence of seasoning. It doesn't seem like they are making the meat from pork shoulders, because it is really lean and flavorless like it is made from a loin. The bark isn't salty or spicy at all. If you slap some sauce on it you can eat it, but it is flavorless and unremarkable for $10 a pound pulled pork. If they just added a simple dry rub and a few slabs of hickory to the fire box the BBQ would be improved a great deal. read more

Went for the first, and last time. No it wasn't horrible but it was a far cry from good. Service about a 2 or 3...just lazy and inattentive. We had to flag down and ask for everything. The chicken and dumplings would have been good but way over salted. Chicken was horribly dry. Was happy I found a pulley bone. Disgusted I couldn't eat it. Chocolate cake. I've had better at school cafeterias. And the brownie I had to spit out. Barbecue leaves much to be desired. Their sauce is a total disaster. Open a pack of powdered mustard. Throw it in your mouth. That's the taste. Yes tea is good. Salad bar didn't have much of any lettuce. Hard to make a salad. And the organization of how you'd fix your plate is out of sorts. Have to jump around. Rotten mush watermelon Hash. Just nasty. So, if you want to spend ,$12 before drink for some macaroni and cheese, this is your spot. read more

This is a self-serve all-you-can-eat buffet. Catching the food when it hits the buffet line ensures best quality. The mustard based barbeque is very good. The hash and rice is not the best I've had but it's decent. The livers were tender and not over-cooked at all. In my opinion livers are easy to over cook they were very good here! The veggies were so so. Salad bar had quite a few items to build a decent salad but not the plethora of items like at a Ruby Tuesday's. The meats are the show here! Barbeque, chicken (baked or fried), all were very good and not dry at all. I got there on a Sunday just before the church crowds showed, so we had the first pick of everything! There was also some mystery thickened brown gravy based item, that had what I think was maybe cubed steak in it, that had an excellent beefy flavor which would be a good option instead of the hash and rice. I had both! They have small bowls with the day's desserts pre-served in them and they have soft ice cream in the dispenser chocolate and vanilla (they were out of vanilla) cones or cups are available. A local took me here today. Not usually a big fan of buffets... But this place was awesome! If you are a fan of the southern style meat and three veggies plate you will love it. Most all of your favorite southern foods are there. Greens, two types of potatoes , corn, green beans, okra, pinto beans, corn bread. That is a few of the vegetable selections. There were several meat choices including pork chops, Fried and baked chicken, BBQ, etc. Not only was there a great selection, but the food was very delicious. The service was super friendly just as you would expect in the south. I look forward to returning there when I am in the area. read more
