Worst BBQ I've ever had. It was not smoked and visibly looked disgusting. Looks like it is made in a crock pot. Hash is great, ribs are ok (not smoked), coleslaw is good. Will not be returning unless I hear they are smoking the bbq. Service was great, everyone is very nice. read more

I was surprised their buffet was all you can eat for barbecue, including ribs. It was very good and the staff was friendly. It is basically no frills, just good food. They only offered mustard based sauce but for some reason, I think a tomato based sauce goes better with ribs. If you do go here I would suggest ringing your favorite sauce. read more

First off. This isn't fine dining and if you don't like chicken or pork, your not going to like it here. This is basically an all you can eat buffet line with some BBQ items and sides. Your not ordering a chicken wrap or a veggie burger from here. In fact, there is no menu or burgers. The pulled pork is very good but be prepared for a different kind of BBQ sauce on it. It's more like a honey mustard than a traditional BBQ. If you do like BBQ soil food, this is a great place for the price. The food is good and the service was wonderful. I grew up eating Wise's BBQ and over the years I have tried dozens of other BBQ places but I think Wise ribs are the best! Their sauce is mustard based and the ribs are cut into single rib portions, the meat is tender but with character not mushy (you will need a toothpick after). Also the ribs are consistent, I've found some places one week the ribs are too dry or under seasoned and the next there perfect it seems at Wises there always the same, pretty darn good! The sauce seems to be infused in the meat and its hard for me to stop eating these ribs even when I feel full. I also like the pulled pork and it is good but not a standout like the ribs are to me.. Wise's is only open on Thursday - Saturday and I have to say guy taking orders (Mr. Wise) does not seem very friendly but It has not stopped me from getting a 5LB pan of take out ribs every time I happen to ride by the place when there open. You have to suspend the idea that you are going to enjoy the ambience. It is literally a cinder block house with folding tables. The buffet is simple and the only drink available is sweet tea (or tap water). Vegetable lovers need not stop here as the only veggie we found were pickles. Also you must like mustard-based BBQ as it's the only kind available. Ok if you've come this far in my review and are still interested then this place is for you. The BBQ is delicious! Found this little hole in the wall by searching on Yelp for someplace to grab a bite while out on a group motorcycle ride. We had 10 bikes pull in and park under a shade tree and evidently we caught their attention. As I was up ordering my food, which at the time they were only doing takeout because of Covid, they set up a table and chairs under the shade tree for us so that we didn't have to eat standing up. As the gentleman left the parking lot he hollered at us and thanked us for our patronage. After we finished eating the young lady from inside came out asking if there was anything she could do for us like top off our drinks or anything like that and we thanked them emphatically for going to all the trouble of setting the table up. I will say I'm not a huge fan of mustard stard-based barbecue sauce. I only had a sandwich but it was pretty good. Several people said that they would come back. read more

I've had bbq from Wise's more times than I can count, but this was the first time driving out to eat there. It's not fancy, but it doesn't need to be. Walk in to find a buffet of white rice, hash, ribs, chicken, baked beans, a vat of sauce (yellow, of course), Cole slaw, and a tray of white bread slices. Get a styrofoam cup of sweet tea, and find a folding church table to sit at among locals. Don't dress up; you'll fit right in in whatever t-shirt and jeans you've got on. It's good stuff! read more

Wise's is one of many of my favorite places to buy food from. They have hash, rice, barbecue chicken, sauce, barbecue, pickles, and many more items. They have the best hash I've ever put in my mouth. Me and mama used to get the adult plate and it filled both of us up with leftovers. They have dining, but we usually always got ours to go. There's no waiting a long time to get some really awesome and enjoyable food. They also do catering. So whether you are looking for a quick meal that is satisfying for the whole family or looking for a catering business, Wise's is the place to go. I've had a ton of BBQ in many different locations as we are full-time RVers and we used to participate in BBQ competitions. Some of the best BBQ have been mom&pop, not fancy so we thought we would give this place a try based on reviews. Like other reviews, nothing fancy, and some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. However, the day we were there, Saturday mid-afternoon, we found the meat dry, not tender or moist. The meat appeared to be grilled, there was no smoke flavor and certainly no smoke ring. Went to Wise BBQ based on comments in Yelp. Big mistake. What a DUMP! Folding tables and chairs. Dirty. Wanted to just leave but was intimidated by the big bruiser. Horrible, dry food. No BBQ sauce, just mustard sauce. Pork was dry and tasted of mustard, which is not good for us that hate mustard. Self-serve on paper plates. But, they make up for it all with high prices! There is nothing, NOTHING, fancy about this BBQ shack. You serve yourself from a small selection of items (BBQ, hash, green beans, bread) and then pull up a spot at one of the picnic tables in the dining area. Good BBQ, but honestly not the best I have had. Worth a try! read more

I married into a SC family 14+ years ago. Before this my experience with an SC mustard sauce had been beyond minimal. The first time they took me to Wise's and I got a mouthful of that yellow I about coughed my head off. My sinuses cleared, and I could taste goodness...Carolina goodness. I've read other reviews here tearing them apart for not having barbecue sauce (mustard based bbq sauce is barbecue sauce) or not having a fancy building or fancy decor, or even being stared at by the locals (to be fair, other reviewers that mentioned that, it was probably all in your mind.) When I've gone I was treated kindly by Wayne and the family and ate till I was full before eating some more. The pork rinds are the tippety-top of tip-top. The ribs are a bit salty for my taste, but that doesn't stop me from eating them, but the chopped pork is the draw for me. This is a county place. There is nothing fancy here, and why would you want it to be all gussied up in the first place. One price, sweet or unsweet tea, water, lemonade, and a co-cola machine out front. The place is run by good people, staffed by good people, and hosts a clientele of good people. So grab a plate and get in line. Take a seat next to somebody you don't know, and enjoy that yellow. read more

Good food at a fun place!! I love mom and pop shops who are rated well you can get McDonald's anywhere. Not much in decor here but the BBQ is great and the price very fair. All the other people in the joint were also very friendly. Sweet tea is the drink of the day. what most people dot know about south Carolina bbq is that we are a mustard based bbq, so that is what we consider a bbq sauce, so if you are driving by and are not from sc we don't have a thick tomato based bbq it is not how we cook our bbq and out of all the bbq places I have been to Wises is the best if you like mustard sc bbq you will not find any finer, yes this is a buffet style and yes you will sit at a picnic table with others and you will have the choice of getting plain white sliced bread because their bbq is so good you don't need a waiter or orange herb bread because the bbq speaks for it self the hash and the pulled pork are the best that you will find in sc where we hold mustard bbq as king so if you are ever going through newberry sc and want to try our style of bbq this is the place to stop read more
