VERY good and friendly service! My Buffalo Mac was DELICIOUS!!! I tried my daughters Hawg Hash and I'd have been pretty damn happy if I'd ordered it too! The only thing a bit lacking was the chicken that my SIL got. It was a bit dry, and they don't let you pick which BBQ sauce to put on it. They put the sweeter one on, and both he and I felt like we'd have liked it better with their other BBQ sauce instead. Other than that we enjoyed our meal and visit here very much. They've done a cute job naming everything and the decor is spot on too.

I have read and researched Hawg n Sauce for a while as I moved to the area. Tonight was the night to make my way to Mt. Vernon to try it. The joint was pretty busy when I arrived and there is a lot of outdoor seating. I prefer inside though. The place was much bigger than I thought. My entree tonight was the St. Louis Ribs. I have to give the ribs a mixed review. They were pretty tough to chew especially on the ends. They did taste good though. There are 3 sauces and all of them were marvelous. The most unique was the citrus Chipotle. There is another called schweet tang which was a sweet and spicy ketchup base. Then the original was called hawg n Sauce and had a more mild, lightly sweet flavor. The best thing on my plate was the hasbrown casserole. I wish I could describe it adequately besides saying it blows Cracker Barrel's out of th water. I had slaw as my other side which was a mix of creaminess and vinegar. Sweet tea was good for Indiana. It is fresh-brewed. It wasn't very sweet for my Alabama tongue. I would eat at Hawg n Sauce again. The hashbrown casserole is definitely something everyone should eat there and all the sauces were superb. I had to work on my ribs too much to really enjoy them though.

First time trying Hawg N Sauce and won't be my last trip there! Our service was great, the beer was cold, and the food was delicious. We got cheddar bites and fried pickles to start, they were delicious- no extra greasy pieces at all! I got smoked pulled BBQ chicken, white cheddar Mac and cheese, and fried okra -- the best okra I've ever had! Highly recommend checking this cute place out if you've never been!

Staff very nice and friendly. Chicken sandwich dry and tough. Sauces alright. I'll probably get something else if I come back.

Cannot beat their "Citrus Chipotle sauce. All meats cooked here are fantastic. I buy the sauce to use at home on most of my smoked beef

Road snack! Pit stop for BBQ right off the highway. Wish I could be more enthused…read more We pulled in around lunch time, there were a couple of people seated. To the left of the door was a window opening to the back with a woman standing there with a baby on her hip, we were looking around to see where to go and she let us know to head to the second window to the back. Upon arriving at the second window, there was a young man standing there. He didn't greet us, didn't smile, just stood there. I indicated it was our first time in and asked a question about the menu, he responded with the answer and then just continued to stand there. I was very uncomfortable so just ordered a sampler with nothing else. For the three options, i chose pulled pork, brisket, and 2 ribs. The food came out right away but no comments or anything. We saw the BBQ sauce area and I took a couple of options in condiment cups with no lids available. grabbed some napkins as we would continue our road trip and eat in the car. I am never a big fan of pulled pork; I have my favorite and compare all to it. This had more flavor than most I have had but it was really dry for being ordered early in the day. The brisket was tender and the fat attached gave flavor. The ribs were fine, also dry. This was a pit stop on our road trip because we love BBQ, this just wasn't for us.

Old Hickory BBQ in Owensboro, Kentucky, delivers exactly what its reputation promises--and then…read moresome. I'd heard more than once, from both my girlfriend and coworkers, that Owensboro is a barbecue town through and through, so when she pointed me toward Old Hickory, expectations were high. Walking in, I was immediately charmed. The space feels like a cozy old cottage infused with unmistakable local pride. Awards and accolades from magazines and even the Food Network line the walls, setting the stage for something special before you ever open the menu. One of the most endearing details, though, is how deeply rooted this place is in the community. The tabletops themselves double as a kind of hometown directory, showcasing local Owensboro businesses. It's a thoughtful, almost nostalgic touch that reinforces the sense that Old Hickory isn't just in Owensboro--it belongs to it. To fully experience what they do best, I ordered the combination platter, a barbecue lover's dream designed for indecision. My lineup included brisket, baby back ribs, and a quarter of white-meat BBQ chicken, with baked beans and mashed potatoes with gravy on the side. The platter arrived surprisingly fast, and the portion size was nothing short of impressive--this is serious, no-nonsense barbecue. The brisket was a standout: fork-tender with generous pieces of that deeply flavorful, smoky bark that true BBQ fans crave. The baby back ribs struck the perfect balance--tender but still offering a satisfying bite off the bone, never mushy or overdone. The chicken was juicy and well-seasoned, cooked just right overall, with only a couple slightly drier bites near the edge of the breast--hardly enough to detract from an otherwise excellent showing. The mashed potatoes and gravy were rich, comforting, and clearly made with care. The baked beans leaned more vinegary than I personally prefer, but they were still good enough that I cleaned the plate without hesitation--a testament to their overall quality. I couldn't help overhearing a nearby table raving about the mac and cheese, and honestly, that might be my biggest regret of the visit. An elderly woman at the table--easily in her 80s--declared, "This mac and cheese kicks ass!" I laughed, briefly considered ordering my own, then accepted defeat--I was already completely full. One small surprise was the classic slices of white and wheat bread served alongside the platter. When I asked about it, the waitress explained that many customers use it to build their own BBQ sandwiches. While I would've loved a square of cornbread instead, the tradition makes sense--and fits the no-frills authenticity of the place. I tried their original vinegar-based sauce, which was tangy, bright, and perfectly suited to the meats. I do wish I'd had the chance to sample their other sauces, but that just gives me an excuse to return. Could I nitpick and mention the limited napkins? Sure--but at a place this good, I ended up licking my fingers clean anyway. Old Hickory BBQ isn't just a meal; it's an Owensboro experience--hearty, genuine, and absolutely delicious.
