Bound to the trunk of a great elm, though I could see no rope or other physical restraints. Footsteps. Before me stood a creature too terrify to imagine. It stood on two legs. While its figure was human, it lacked a head. Rather its face was formed across its upper torso. It smile deviantly at me. It stood there for what seemed an eternity. It swung its arms front and back, offering a dull clap with each forward motion. Finally it approached. I winced. It took its hand, buried it into my jean pocket, and it took out a single, bare spare rib. It was from Marx Barbecue. I woke up the next morning at the Esquire Inn on Fares. My lady friend had something sizzling in the hot plate-- ham, from Marx Barbecue. I've never told anyone this story before. This is barbecue in the true Western Kentucky tradition. The original sauce is delicious. It's impacted by a lot of umami from the tomatoes . It's savory and bold. Not sweet. The pulled pork is great country barbecue. Prices are reasonable. read more

I got a quart of pulled pork with their original sauce. To my surprise when I got home and went to fix sandwiches there was no sauce with the meat, it was just doing back-flips in the grease. This is the worst pulled pork I have ever gotten in my life. Do not recommend and will not be going back. On top of that had to ask about the price when she quoted it to me and she lowered it saying she had told me incorrectly. read more

They cater, so they have that going for them. Unfortunately I did not like the BBQ and neither did most of the guests at the party. We had a massive amount of leftovers, which our dogs really appreciated! So there is that. Take the drive to Owensboro and go to Moonlight BBQ it will work out better in the long run. read more

Just had dinner here....new to the area & was craving a good plate of pulled pork...this was not what I was expecting.. I had ribs & the rest of my family had sandwiches... it's NOT pulled smoked bbq.. it's sliced pork soaked in a tomato based sauce the ribs were country style ribs but with the same tomato sauce. $31 for a family of 4. Great service, affordable barbecue, and tasty food. Got the pork sandwich with a slice if homemade apple pie and it only cost me about 5 dollars. Excellent for lunch. Also, they sell their homemade sauce inside for relatively cheap. Definitely try this place out! read more

My family and I went here for dinner a while back. My sister and I had the pulled pork and it had tons of bones in it?! We weren't sure if it was bones, but there were hard things in it. The sauce that it was in wasn't very good either, it tasted like tomato sauce. We had Marx bbq for our Christmas dinner. We had baked ham and pork butt with sauce. Sorry to say that we were disappointed. Both the ham and the pork, were just... ok. New to town and we were told to go to Marx for bbq. We have been to bandanas and thought that the bbq was good. So we compared the two. Marx ribs had a lot of fat on them and very tough! I agree with one of the other reviewers that there is no smoke flavor at all and a tomato sauce dripped over it. The sides are average at best and the bbq sauce was average. Wish I would have tried the sandwich! The place is very clean and service is good. But I'll stick with Bandanas , Moonlight. read more

A couple of us decided to try this out, we all ordered the rib platter. The sauce was horrible, tasted like they just dipped the meat in tomato sauce, does not have a barbecue taste whatsoever. Their meat was not smoked at all but seemed to be cooked in a steam cooker. The baked beans tasted like sugar was just poured into them, hoping they were made more appetizing by the sweetness. Your better off going to a restaurant NOT specialized in barbecue to get better tasting barbecue. I went with 3 people, none of us were impressed, we all were in shock it has remained open this long. Kind of surprised anyone eats here, but not everyone has a good palate. Want good barbecue go to Hickory Pit, don't waste your time trying Marx. read more

Have eaten there for over thirty years, they have the best sandwiches and BBQ ribs in town.

Good but strangely enough the ribs where too bulky and meaty without enough fat to add flavor and avoid dryness. Sauce was ok, but I have had better Memphis style. read more
