Received an email from salesman that the used car I wanted to purchase was "in great condition" and "passed rigorous multi-tiered inspection by certified master technicians" and "personally ensured maintenance was up-to-date and all fluids changed". After reading CarFax, noticed head gasket was replaced by their dealership. When I asked why the head gasket needed replacing, I found out that they never did replace the head gasket (not worth investing in the car to fix it) and were selling the car at their tent sale AS-IS knowing it had a blown head gasket. So, why was I told the car was in great shape when they knew it had problems? Sad. I reached out and asked for an explanation & no apologies given. read more

Went in last week to buy an affordable used car for my teenage son. Was quoted a price, negotiated a little off the deal. While waiting for finance rep, saw the car on the website priced $1,300 cheaper. Asked salesman about it and he said the website was messed up and that was what they paid for it at trade in. Kelley Blue book value was $7,000 less. Told me I needed $2,000 more down to get loan approved. Then they told me GAP insurance was required because car was higher mileage, (found out later it was optional), but car was so overpriced they put it in the contract for another $700. Negotiation was not done in good faith. Very disappointing in 2024 that used car salesman are still so dishonest and shady. I will never go back. Make sure you read the contract with a fine tooth comb. Use Kelley Blue book for fair value. If/when they start lying just walk out and go to CarMax. read more

Be very careful if you decide to give this dealer any of your business! They will add in whatever creativity they can find to the OTD price. I was paying cash for a vehicle, they added in GAP insurance. If you don't know what GAP IS do your research. We negotiated a price and at the very last minute tried to convince me that I misunderstood the final figures adding back 1k. My star rating for this unethical and I quote "dealership " is -3 star rating unfortunately. I purchased a Mazda CX-5 from this dealership. The salesperson was very friendly and pumped up about the Mazda brand. I thought I was getting a good deal. I fell for the extended warranty - don't do it! I was told the extended warranty covered everything bumper to bumper to 100k miles for only $10 more per month, for my 72 month loan. I was not able to see the paperwork, as it was on the financing manager's computer and I trusted he was doing what he said he would do, and having me sign on a pin pad. When the paperwork was printed, the warranty was $2500.00, not $720. I had to go back the next day and argue to get that adjusted and they would not adjust the price, the would only void the warranty and give me my money back, but not just give it back, it has to be sent to the bank where I financed the car. Another issue was they put a $399 line item on the sale for 'VIN etching'. That should have been included in the sale price of the car, and I currently waiting for my $399 refund check on that because I wasn't wrong! But If I hadn't re-read the paperwork, they would have literally got an extra $2900 out of the sale. Its a shame to trust that dealers won't be shady in this day and age, but guess what? This dealer is shady and I am so disheartened to have to deal with these issues because they shouldn't happen. Buyer Beware! I wouldn't trust anything they tell you at this dealership. read more

Bought a new Miata here last night, got a (surprisingly) great price and had a no-nonsense experience with one exception... Hawk, like many other dealerships, hit you with that last minute bamboozle when you're signing all your paperwork that you're paying an extra $700ish for window etching and an "appearance package" which is mentioned nowhere beforehand. I get that everyone needs to make money, but it's always been a major pet peeve of mine when you get swerved like this three signatures away from being finished. Again, this isn't really a Hawk thing as much as it seems to be a car dealership tactic in general thing, so... Just keep an eye out. I got them to knock off the price of the "appearance package," and just went with the $399 window etching as at least that will help with making my insurance slightly cheaper. (Doubtful the difference would ever pay for itself, but still.) Aside from that, our sales guy, James Wolff was great to work with and a fun dude to chat with while doing the immense amount of paperwork that goes with buying a car. Shout out to Erin Campanotto too who was super responsive with my initial email outreach. We did enough emailing back and forth by the time I got there I basically just drove the car around the block and started signing things. This is definitely the way to go when you're buying a car. Ultra smooth, aside from the requisite hidden charges, but I'm not sure you can escape that sort of junk outside of just buying directly from a company like Tesla who have removed dealers from the equation entirely. read more

PLEASE i need everyone's help in spreading the word to never go to buy /have service from Hawk Mazda in Joliet , IL. MY GRANDSON bought the first car sold there along with ALL THE EXTRAS THEY TALKED HIM INTO, all the warranties from tires to brakes , engines to paint ..he did this around 8 months ago .. so far the car has had to have tires replaces which like i said were brand new .. hell when Jeff and i saw what was happening the tires still had the rubber "teetes" not even a couple hundred miles.. they refused to do anything even though he bought the tire warranty and he showed them too bad kid .. so his mom/ he called warranty place . Guess what tires covered . Then paint chipping same thing "you must have done something to the paint ." Again .. nope .. he hadn't even washed it yet . So call the warranty. Now he has had problem a with the remote start , it won't work . He brought it in they said " you hit a pot hole and that's why battery went bad " what ???? And you are mechanics.. i call bs... he got locked out of the car twice and had to get a Uber for a ride because it was so late .. then they said too bad again . He finally got it to work and figured maybe the fob battery .. replaced it at a hefty cost .. then it happened again at work ... they again told him tough ..but they did replace the battery .. but it happened again ....so my daughter got involved .. Never get the mom tiger involved .. she called was told to come in with the car so they did and were told to bad they weren't going to do anything , she said i spoke to blah blah and he said to come in and it would be handled .. in the meantime everyone was trying to figure out where the actual key went . Finally after 2 hrs a mechanic, who seemed to be the only customer oriented friendly guy, came out and showed them where it was . Hidden behind the door handle . At least we know now . Then the rude manager came back stated he had talked to the dealership owner who told him to tell her to leave they were not going to do anything for them.. then he called the police. So what i am asking for is your help spreading the word about this horrible customer service . I am not sure if it was based on my grandson who is 25 but has a great job and fantastic credit . Put down a great big down payment and bought all the extras they told him to , or my daughter who is a VERY VERY strong woman , she did swear and said this is f-ing ridiculous .. yes she said the f word after hours and multiple visits to the dealer to get everything done correct , and she never said it to someone , just describing the terrible ignorant treatment. Poorly and selfishly run dealership! I purchased a vehicle from Hawk Mazda in the beginning of February 2022. I was told by my salesman, Jerry, that I would be given $500 off for owning a Mazda, even though he knew neither I nor a family member owned one previously. After signing the loan agreement, I realized that the $500 discount was not applied. I reached out to Jerry and both managers, Brian and Ricky, and they delayed the process for weeks, constantly telling me that if I leave them all 10's on their survey that they'd give me my $500. I even had to take off from work to drive back to the dealership from Chicago, which was an hour and a half drive, to speak with them in person. I did their surveys and they still claimed that they didn't receive it. Brian gave me a WRONG number to call to follow up on the status of the survey, further delaying the process. It is now almost mid-May, and this dealership is ignoring my calls and voicemails for weeks. It is so poorly and selfishly run, that they only prioritize their profits and not the wellbeing and happiness of the customers. 0/10 recommend this dealership, especially Jerry as a salesman. read more

We leased a brand new Mazda CX-5 back in February. Drove off the lot with 2 miles on the car. Once the vehicle got to 500 miles the brakes began to squeak. I took it in for service and they said it was just brake dust. The cleaned them up and then said that squeaking is normal so if it starts again don't worry about it. Two days later more squeaking. I took his advice and tried to ignore it. Now the vehicle is at 9,000 miles and the squeaking is so bad everyone in a drive thru can hear it with their windows shut. I took it back in and I am now told that the squeaking is caused by some rust build up. He says, unfortunately its normal in Mazda's. Loud squeaking brakes on a brand new car...normal? My previous Mazda never had squeaky breaks. My sisters brand new leased Mazda doesn't have squeaky breaks! Cannot wait for this lease to be up - never working with this dealership again. read more

A few weeks ago I saw a car I wanted on their website so I called them. The guy on the phone told me the car was at the dealer and I could come see it. When I got to the dealer about an hour later they said the car was in the shop because they were replacing the bumper. The shop was locked so I could not see the car and I was told to come back on Monday. I go there Monday and they could not find the car. The manager after some time said he'd go look for it. Maybe he was more interested in the liter alcohol bottle under his desk next to the case of beer at the desk next to his. Supposedly it was in the paint department and I could not see it. Two people took my info and were supposed to call me on the car. I have not received a single phone call and the car is still on their website. Don't put a car on your website unless you're ready to sell it! Is this called bait and switch?! I work full time and I don't appreciate this company wasting my time. We buy a lot of autos for our company and we won't use Hawk and I will spread the work!! read more

If I could give this place a zero star rating I would. I bought this car last year, after a month starting leaking oil. I was fixed under warranty, but never really fixed because it kept leaking oil. Went back again they fixed another thing , and so on and so on. I have had several things done there and recently like 2 weeks ago. Big surprise something else is wrong, and took this to another mechanic and he took pictures and called us immediately and told us all the issues that were wrong with the work that Hawk did and we should take it back immediately! read more

For 2 years, never had a problem. Every time I brought my CX-5 in for service, they called, texted and emailed me to remind me. The one time I have a question about something that may have been under warranty, they all of a sudden forgot how to get a hold of me. It took someone 10 days to get back to me for my first inquiry, I brought the car in only to have the service manager tell me that he had no idea why I was there and wasn't really good at hiding his frustration. I explained that I had paint chipping up on the hood so he took pictures and told me someone would call me. Two months later, I bring the car in for oil change and check the status. Once again, nobody has any idea what I am talking about as nothing is "in the system." More pictures taken and shallow apologies. Two months later I ask again and once again, no idea what I am talking about!! Now I bring the car in for a third time, they give me a courtesy car and tell me someone will call in a few days. One week later I follow up again to be told that Mazda "isn't covering it." I politely asked if they knew why. "I'm just here to tell you they aren't covering it." Go to pick up my car and they were nice enough to leave masking tape all over the hood for me to pick off. Talk about adding insult. Customer service rep pretended to be shocked by all of this and told me she would "make it right." That was 2 months ago as well. I would have taken my car there for everything for the life of the vehicle but now I am going someplace else. If you are giving them money, they are super polite, but if it is something that could be under warranty...they will just jerk you around for 6 months like they did me.
