What was supposed to be a one night stay at the beginning of our road trip turned into 3 when the RV broke down after the first night. (Now repaired). The staff is so kind and helpful and we were easily able to extend our stay until repairs could be handled. Bathrooms clean, plenty of shade trees, quite open space. Options for cabins to stay in, RVs, and tents. Beware of COWS! They are on the side of the county road that leads here and sometimes decide to be on the road. Drive slow in the dark for sure! read more

We stayed at Hawk's Nest two nights during a week long camping adventure we took as a family with two kiddos (6&9). Overall, great place to stay with great (free) showers. The kids really enjoyed the playground (but be warned, they will come back extra dirty- yay for the showers). We only have a truck camper that has a battery with solar, but still booked a site with full electric just in case we needed an extra charge (we did use electricity for our air fryer though). One downside to me was not having a camp fire ring or a table (luckily we had our own, but we don't always take one)... but it wasn't a deal breaker. Pamela was very friendly, and when we came to the on site store for something we ran out of, unfortunately it wasn't available in the store, she did however get us what we needed from her personal house. Thank you again. If we are ever in that area we'd definitely come back. read more

Nice campground! We stayed for 2 nights on our way to Tahoe. Very quiet, very clean and staff were nice! It's about 20 minutes from the Lava Bed National monument. Go check out the caves! We went into Skull cave and Valentine cane and they were so cool! Be sure to gas up and bring all the food/water you need, as the next town is always away! They have a playground which is great' lots of chairs and tables for eating. I liked hearing all the wind chimes on the windy day. We went to explore Dry lake - but it's indeed dry. Only a 4 star since the little store wasn't stacked. Old reviews mentioned it had once been stocked with ice cream and that would have been amazing!!! Locals said to check out Medicine lake, but we didn't have enough gas. Next time! We would stay again. read more

This is a great discovery out in the outback of Modoc National Park. About an hour south of Klamath Falls on the roads to the Lava Beds National Park, its the perfect place to set up a base. The owner, Pam, bought the place 8 years ago and has been steadily making improvements. There are ten cabins, ranging from no bathroom to full bath and kitchen, each decorated individually. And oh so clean. I am here on their first day of the season. A sheer fluke-I've been on the road for three months and decided to check it out to see if there were any campsites open. It's Memorial Weekend so I was fortunate, indeed. The sites are all pull through. Level. Have electric, water, and dump stations for those with bigger rigs. The bath house is clean. Two showers, two toilets on the women's side. I think the men have the same configuration. It's quiet. I'm listening to doves, robins, and wrens while I write. I watched two pair of hawks sail by earlier so its aptly named. There's a playground for children. A safe fire pit. And a cleaning station for those who fish and hunt. They are open until just after hunting season in November, then close due to snow. Nice place. If there was reliable internet, I'd give five stars. But really, between the stars, birds, trees, and fresh air, who needs internet? read more

We didn't stay at the park, but the cabins and RV area looked well kept and cozy. We are reviewing the kindness of the owner Jim, who we met when we had to stop by looking for gas when we mismanaged our gas amount and were still 30 miles out of Merrill. Jim welcomed us and filled our tank with an extra 5 gallon container he keeps for emergencies. He could have charged us an arm and a leg, but he only charged us the actual price of the gas approximately $5/gallon and was super helpful. The property looked very well maintained and I would recommend it to anyone road tripping with an RV or looking to stay at a cute cabin close to the lava beds, especially considering the kind hospitality. We hope this review pays forward the generosity we received from Jim during our encounter. read more

This is a hidden secret in northern CA. This cabin and RV park near the Lava Beds NM, caves, glass mountain and Medicine lake Caldera is perfectly located. The sites are flat, full pull thru hookups, great showers and rest rooms. The owners are extremely friendly and helpful. The sites are wide and long. They are shaded and comfortably situated. The office has a store stocked with ice cream products, ice, food and drink items and all the needed fishing needs. It is quiet and peaceful. I highly recommend it. The price is very reasonable if not below market. read more

We stopped here for the night while traveling cross country. Was a great pet friendly spot to stop for the night. Definitely a no frills basic cabin, but very clean with all the basics. Our toddler loved having the playground to release some energy and thought eating outside at the picnic tables was just the best. There is nothing near by so ensure you grab groceries prior to arriving. Employees were extremely friendly and helpful. We will definitely stay again if passing through. read more

Just stayed two nights here in a full hook up RV spot, #10 to be exact. The place is under new management and they are working so hard to get things cleaned up and looking fresh. There are also several cabins that looked cute and clean. Nice bathroom and showers and a laundry spot too. The pull through sites were freshly graveled and cleaned up. New picnic tables in many sites. Looks like a playground is going in as well as other amenities. We loved our site overlooking the campground below. The staff was very friendly, helpful and welcoming. The campground is a quick 1/2 hour drive to Lava Beds National Monument. There's no food around for miles, so be sure to bring what you need. There are a few monthly renters there, but it was not overwhelming. We'd definitely go back! Hawks Nest is a gem in the rough and worth the stay over if you need a spot to stay while exploring the area. It's an easy drive off 139. read more

This is a cute joint in a cool pine forest in an unlikely part of California - the tiny berg of Tionesta - near Tulelake and the California/Oregon border. My spouse and I stayed in a cabin - it was perfect for us. Everything we needed to take care of ourselves: a nice bathroom, a lovely bed, comfy, just enough conveniences like a microwave. No hassles - hands off managers, etc. I think it was a bit pricey, but if you want to stay in a nice cabin, decide for yourself once you call to check on pricing. We were fortunate - there were not a lot of people staying there during our visit. I have a feeling it will be busier in Spring and Summer. And, yes, I would stay there again. The place is dog friendly and in addition to cabins has an RV park. read more

We stayed here as it was close to the Lava National Monument Park. It was our first time staying at an RV park and it had everything we needed with 30amp full hook up. It was peaceful and quiet, with a clean bathroom and shower on site. I would recommend staying here! read more

First time here in the area. This location worked out great for our 20' trailer. Booking was less straightforward than it could be, website number out of date. Office onsite was helpful and nice. We stayed in one of the cabins. Very primitive, with furniture and fixtures that look like they date to the 1960s. Toilets and showers are in a building across the lot. Woman who checked us in at the office seemed to be happy to be done with us as quickly as possible. For the remainder of the weekend nobody as much as said "Hey". The town's convenience store went out of business, and the RV park's store is still being built, so it's a 20+ minute drive each way for provisions. read more

On a recent trip, we hit some storms and decided to stay in a cabin here. It was quiet, clean, comfortable and kept our little ones safe from the freak thunderstorms and hail. Nice, clean RV park near Lava Beds National Monument, and the world-class birding in the Tule Lake wildlife areas. New ownership is friendly and responsive, and working hard. They just opened last weekend, and we enjoyed 3 nights there. The heated restroom and showers were nice. The site pads were a little rough...they had recently spread new gravel and graded, but still a bit rough. No problem getting leveled though. The power source was either 50-amp, or 110 (no 30-amp plug, so you might need an adapter from 110 to 30-amp). And as a bonus, on Memorial Day morning, a beautiful bald eagle flew lazy circles for 5 minutes, right over the camp. You can't beat that! read more

We stayed at Hawks Nest because it was close to Lava Bed Natl Monument. This campground is like a hidden jewel. There were only a few people here while we were there. The managers are very nice, the entire campground is well kept and clean. The sites are wide and clean and instead of tearing out the pine trees to be able to fit more sites the sites are worked around the trees. If you are in this area I highly recommend staying here for a nite our longer. read more

I am the campground manager as of April 2018. I love this place even before I moved here. I came for the first time here at Hawk's Nest in June of 2014 to visit my mother who lives in Tionesta where Hawk's Nest is located at. What a change from porta potties to flushing bathrooms and hot showers. A small laundry room but gets the job done. When I found out that one man (who is my step dad) keep the campground running and clean I was amazed. I never seen a place like this before. The history of the cabins here and where they came from. They had a camp fire just for me and my mom and even came out with cookies to campers. It was nice. I know I work here but when I didn't this still was a great place to go camping. I hope to see You at one of our many campfires and Guest appreciation BBQ's. read more

We stayed here one night on our honeymoon! The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating. We were tent camping, but they have a ton of cabins and RV spots to stay in! The bathroom is the BEST one I have ever seen camping! They have showers and laundry facilities as well as a little country store on site. They are very conveniently located next to Lava Bed's National Monument, Glass Mountain, Modoc National Forest, Medicine Lake, Clear Lake, Timer Mountain, and The Devils Garden. You will not see more stars in your life! Highly recommend staying here whether it's for relaxing, hunting, fishing, hiking, etc. We are already planning our next trip back! read more

A great campground nestled in the forest with lots of huge pine trees and plenty of shade. I gave it 5 stars because: Huge campsites that are perfectly level with trees everywhere Extremely clean facilities with trash cans between each RV site Quiet place set among the woods The owners now manage the park. They had a campground fire each night and provided all the firewood for that. We had a fabulous time getting to know them, really nice people. They kept asking us, "Is there anything you need?" Now, who does that these days? We arrived late, around 10pm, our first night and the owner met us at our campground. Was very friendly, even for the late hour, and told us to pay in the morning. We knew immediately that this was going to be a nice place to stay. read more

On a recent hunting trip, we visited Hawk's Nest. It has a number of small rustic cabins, RV spaces, and a small office-store. We stayed in a cabin named "The Bunkhouse" and it was great. Small, but clean and neat with a full kitchen. The cabin slept 4 in one large bedroom -- good mattresses, linens, etc. The only drawback is that none of the cabins have bathrooms. The centrally located restroom and shower room building worked just fine -- and, it's one of the cleanest you will ever encounter in an RV Park. Fred, one of the Co-Owners, could not do enough for us. Hawk's Nest is adjacent to the Modoc National Forest, with fishing lakes and hunting opportunities. A few miles down the road is the Lava Beds National Monument for those who like exploring caves. The historical area surrounding Hawk's Nest was also the location of many of the battles in the last indian wars in America between the Modoc Indians and the US Cavalry. The gift shop at Lava Beds has many books on the Modoc Indian War -- Very interesting reading, plus being able to actually visit the locations where it all occured. We've already reserved "The Bunkhouse" for our trip next year. read more

This was a pretty nice stay. It's quiet as there isn't a whole lotta traffic close by. There are cabins, tent spaces, and full hookups for RVs, and some videos in the office if you've nothing in your library that you want to watch. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the grounds are nice. There's a general store next door tho the prices are pretty high. This place is expanding and planning on putting in a cafe so stay posted. The spaces are a little tight but not that uncommon for most RV sites. Generally, a nice place that I'd stay at again. read more

Great little park with RV spaces, tent sites and cabins nestled in the trees at the base of Timber Mountain. It's a great jumping off point for exploring Northern California! We stayed here while we visited Lava Beds National Monument (way cool, by the way!), Lassen Volcanic National Park, and the Tule Lake National Wildlife Refuge. Had a great time... especially when we got back to the campground each afternoon... they have group campfires at night and it was an awesome opportunity to kick back, relax and meet some other cool people! read more

We stayed in Cabin 7 (the only queen bed cabin) and loved it. Our accommodation was cozy, clean, and very romantic. They provide you kitchenware, towels, and all you need for a getaway. Hawksnest is very close to the gorgeous Lava Beds National Park. We also love the small nearby store/saloon in Tionesta, 200 yards from Hawksnest. read more

Great place: nice location, nice owners. We stayed in a cute little cabin while visiting Lava Beds & surrounding sites, which are very interesting in their own way. We looked forward to returning at the end of each day, as this was a very pleasant place to hang out: either on the front steps of our cabin watching the birds and the other campers, or walking around the peaceful surrounding environment. The owners were very helpful, especially Lisa. We would like to come back. Note the little store & gas station next door is closed. Captain Jack's Stronghold north of Newell has decent food (restaurant and store). read more

I've stayed at the Hawks Nest resort for the last 4 years. This is the third different owner and I'm disappointed. We called to reserve the spot that we've had for the last five years and were told that it wasn't available. Plus, the rates have increased by double. The bathrooms are always dirty, there is no grass for the tent sites and the camp host never comes out to greet you. When we called to talk to the owner we were told " I have to make a profit". Good luck with that. I'll never be back and I'll tell everyone I know not to go there either. read more

The place was small and cozy with a very helpful staff. They helped us first time RVers set up our vehicle and the water/sewer and electric Hookups. The showers were hot and restrooms clean. Not to forget a decent free WiFi (only at the proximity of the office). The only downside was lack of gas stations and stores in the town. Other than that, this place was a cool place to stay pretty close to LB national monument. read more

Stayed here 3 nights, will never return. There are several reasons. The store has been closed for 3 years. We had to drive into Oregon for everything. The high power Wi-Fi only works for 1/2 the campground. We paid $20.00 extra for bathroom facilities. No shower, no sink in toilet area. No hot water any where except across the park. The ventilation was stagnet. 100 degree days and not even a working fan. Also, they advertise that they have a high rating with Good Sam Club. That too is a lie. They are not registered or members of Good Sam. I give 1 star for the wonderful lady in the office. She did her best to try and make things bearable. read more

Nice quiet campground. Stayed two nights in Rv while visiting Lava Beds. 50amp hooks, room for big RV's and good price. The only issue is the dirt is very fine, powdery. Sticks to everything and dusty. Could use some gravel thrown down on it in the camp sites.... read more

This was a great little find...we were traveling and needed a place to stay and we stumbled on this place...the people that owned the park were wonderful made us feel welcome and the cabins were very clean and comfortable...it sits in the pines near the Modoc National Lava Bed park where we were headed...the park is a very peaceful place to stay if your looking to get away fromit all..Loved it can't wait to go back.... read more
