I called and spoke with Sylvester, who told me it's $150/hour labor rate, $150 for diagnostics; but he offers to wave 50% off the diagnostics job if the job ends up going to him/his team/shop in the end. Sylvester seems nice enough, personable and relaxing conversationalist enough when I talked on the phone and when I dropped off the car. I wish the positive impression there translated to a more positive experience or instilling any positive confidence in... I bought a very old used car (20 year old car; but under 110k miles), and didn't need the premium pricing for maintenance, considering I don't want to put in too much into a car that is in its last years (for reference, I usually bring my cars to Precision Auto Care in San Leandro). Based on location, labor rate, high rating ratio (and compared to other local repair shops at a similar rate), and some reviews, I chose to try this place out to give my car a good look over. I wanted to see if his shop would be able to confirm/observe some of the same the things they should've from the Pre-Purchase Inspection (PPI) I had done, and didn't fabricate more merely to pad on costs. In the end, I was not impressed... After dropping it off for the day, when I came to pick it up, this was the outcome (for the $150 to get an official after-sale inspection "Diagnostic & Analysis; Potential Issues"); Sylvester gave me the most generic, plain, perfunctory assessment! He basically merely pointed out the easily observable & obvious/superficial; showing it wasn't given any kind of in depth inspection. All he gave, specifically, was that the gear number indicator isn't accurate (who cares, it's from 2005, it's not going to show when it momentarily goes down to 2nd or 3rd gear after cruising at 4th), and that "it's old". That's it. He went on about how it's an old car, so not in great shape (yeah it's old, but was under 110k miles with no major accidents or issues and had every service milestone), and that it needs a (what I imagine a still pretty costly) basic tune up before anything else can be figured out...! He claimed it could barely be expected & trusted to drive to as far as San Jose (from Hayward). I asked him about any of the findings from the PPI (transmission needs tune-up, brakes look worn, serpentine belt looks worn down, parking brake could be tighter, various evidence of small leaks), and he merely shrugged and kept pushing for the basic tune up because it's old before anything else. I then specifically asked him what was observed about the brakes, and he again shrugged and nonchalantly responded "well...it stops..." What kind of response is that?! I know what a proper inspection looks like (shot out to SafeBuy); I don't think he or his team even looked at it -- merely test drove it a little bit, took surface-level observations, and didn't even bother to inspect even the most important & vital parts (even as it's not even small compact components)! He couldn't even take a credit card (machine was acting up), or give a proper receipt. I've driven it for 7 months now, and put 13k miles on it (because I work in San Jose from San Leandro; going against his wrong assessment) -- I've brought it to 2 other mechanics who confirmed most things from the PPI, and dispelled a few others that weren't as concerning as initially observed (PPI can only inspect so extensively); I did get a transmission tune-up and the spark plugs needed to be replaced, but it's worked great all this time (opposite to what Sylvester said). And none of which was observed or brought up by him/them. They might be competent enough, and great in other situations and for other people (hence more than 1 star). But after it all, I felt it ended up being a waste of money with Exodus Auto Repair - with bad generic uninformative not-complete diagnostics. In the end, if that's the effort and comprehensiveness of the inspection he'd give at the base/first level, how can I trust him and his team for more in depth troublesome issues & major repairs?!

I was stranded, traveling in my van. I feel that John treated me with prejudice because I was traveling in a van. I wasn't invited to have coffee or snacks, I struggled to find the restroom, and I walked out of there to a hotel 2 miles away twice without being offered a ride. No one tried to shake my hand. Employment is rarely empowerment. Predators dont make themselves known.

We paid around $700 for a temporary "band-aid" solution that involved refilling the refrigerant. We understood that this was temporary and that we would eventually need to return for a complete repair. This spring, the problem returned, which we expected. We decided to have the issue fully repaired and paid around $1,950 after being assured that the repair would take care of the problem. The document outlining the proposed work was sent to us by text rather than email, making it difficult to clearly read and understand. When we reviewed it, we discovered that it included a repair for an oil leak and several other items that Doral's later described as "just suggestions." We had brought the SUV in only for the AC repair, yet the total shown was close to $7,500. When my husband questioned the amount, he was told that the additional items were merely suggestions. If that was the case, we did not understand why they had been included in the total. He was then told to sign at the bottom of the text so they could proceed with the additional work. We declined and paid only the originally agreed-upon amount for the AC repair. The sales representative was also condescending and repeatedly tried to speak over my husband, which was especially disappointing coming from a business that promotes itself as transparent and family-owned. Less than three months after paying approximately $1,900 for the full AC repair, the SUV began making the exact same hissing noise associated with the original refrigerant leak. This was not a new problem. It was the same issue we had paid Doral's to fix. Doral's told my husband to bring the SUV back, which made sense because its website advertises a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty that includes air-conditioning repairs. My husband and I were both present when we dropped it off. The salesperson told my husband to sign the computer pad but specifically said there would be no charge because it was the same issue, so my husband signed it. A day and a half later, after my husband had to follow up because communication was poor, he was told that it would now cost $2,700 to repair. We could not understand how we were being asked to pay even more money for the same issue less than three months after paying approximately $1,900 to have it fixed. When my husband called to arrange pickup and made it clear that we would not pay again for the same problem, the representative denied saying there would be no charge and told him, "Don't put words in my mouth." Both my husband and I clearly heard the statement when we dropped off the SUV, and the conversation should have been captured by the cameras in their office. Based on our experience, we no longer trust this business and will not return. Save your money and find another repair shop.

I supplied my own parts and Mechatronic quoted me a fair labor-only price, by far the best of several shops I called. One of the aftermarket mounts didn't fit properly during install. Rather than forcing it or charging extra, they were upfront about the issue and offered to install a replacement OEM part for free once I sourced it. I brought back a genuine Ford transmission mount a few days later and they installed it at no additional charge, no questions asked. Honest, straightforward, and skilled work. The car feels completely different, no more rocking or noise under acceleration. This is now my go-to shop for anything beyond what I can handle myself. Highly recommend.

They also originally quoted me 100 for an O2 sensor - this somehow became 150! They quoted me 1770$ to, and I quote because I made it clear what I wanted, "fix everything wrong with the car). I was fine with that. On the high side, but assumed they were using top quality parts. But the part that really pissed me off was the coolant. I was charged $170 for coolant service, yet after getting my car back, I checked the coolant myself and found the level was actually LOWER than I had previously observed it. So I paid $170 for a coolant-related service, got the car back with less coolant than I remembered it having, and still had a leak issue. That makes me seriously question whether there is a coolant leak that was misdiagnosed or never properly diagnosed in the first place, and what exactly my $170 paid for. Then I plugged in my own scanner after getting the car back and found an additional diagnostic code that was NOT present before I brought the vehicle in. And this was for incorrect oil type- something that can literally destroy my entire engine. I can't prove they caused that code, so I'm not going to claim they did--but finding a new code immediately after getting my car back certainly didn't inspire confidence. I spent a substantial amount of money here expecting competent work and basic fucking communication. Instead, I got my car back with the problem I specifically brought it in for STILL unresolved, coolant lower than I had previously seen it despite being charged $170 for coolant service, and an additional code showing up afterward. And yes, I contacted them directly before posting this. I gave them the opportunity to address this. If you can't fix something, SAY THAT BEFORE THE CUSTOMER IS STANDING AT THE COUNTER ABOUT TO PAY. Then to try and quote me 2500 dollars just for labor for a small leak. If you're charging $170 for coolant service, I shouldn't get my fucking car back and find the coolant lower than it was before. Worst part is, after reaching out to other mechanics, they gouged me on price relentlessly. I'm actually a mechanic myself, but was looking to get expert work done on a new purchase I really care about.I genuinely regret bringing my car here.
