Spinach goat cheese hand pie and iced matcha
    Ainsley E.

Stopped in on a Monday morning. I understand you have to get there EARLY on weekends because of how busy it gets. It was busy on a weekday around 930am. Seating indoors at a premium, and the outdoor tables were filling up, too. The vibe is spartan, but trendy. I'm not impressed by their regular matcha, but am intrigued by the strawberry cloud option, which I may return to try. They also have a banana bread one. The pastry on their spinach hand pie is very nice, but found the filling to be lacking. They serve Hyperion here, for anyone wondering if they have their own beans. Tl;dr I'm not going out of my way to come here, but I haven't written it off, either!

I've tried 5 other drinks to give a fuller more in depth review than my first time and I just honestly really don't like their drinks. I have tried 3 other matchas (a vanilla with cloud foam, a banana one, and a strawberry matcha). The vanilla matcha was very plain and bitter and the cloud foam was hard and difficult to drink. The banana matcha tasted like chemicals and I didn't get much banana flavor at all. The strawberry one was better but the matcha they use is really not good at all and I couldn't finish it, I had to throw it out. They also overfilled my drink and I couldn't get it to the table without spilling it everywhere. Ive also tried more coffee: I decided to get iced this time and tried a salted maple latte that was recommended to me (I'm not picky with flavors really). There's this aftertaste to the coffee that is extremely unsettling and salted maple wasn't coming through at all. I also tried a vanilla honey latte which again, had a strange aftertaste. I can tell that I really just don't like the beans and matcha they use. I've asked a group of my friends if they have liked it and they also agreed that they haven't been able to find a good drink they like. We are all so shocked since there are people in there all of the time and we all want to like the drinks there so bad but we just can't. With how expensive the drinks are (my matcha was $10 with oat milk) and the drinks not tasting great, I just can't go there anymore. BUT, I will say: the place is still such a vibe and added beautiful outdoor seating for the summer. Also, my experience with the workers has all been great, some people have said they are pretentious but they've all been very friendly to me :) also the biggest thing I want to say as I said before is that everyone's taste are different and I don't necessarily believe the coffee and matcha is objectively bad. I just think I have a set of tastebuds that don't mesh well with Hazel Coffee, but that shouldn't stop you from trying it and forming your own opinion. If you have a lot to study, you should stop in, sit a while, and try something :)

Great matcha spot! I stopped in and got a matcha with salted maple syrup, it was incredible. This is the freshest matcha I've had in Ann Arbor thus far. The staff are very friendly and so helpful. The matcha was made on the spot and not pre-done, it's seems like the flavors are made in house and I love the dedication to rolling out new latte and matcha flavors. Their interior is super cute, there's seating indoors and outside but beware it's a popular spot and fills up quickly. There's some street parking available nearby. I love a coffee shop that's cute, has good drinks, and lives up to the hype, will be back!

Hazel Coffee is in the new Packard Row apartment building across from Madras Masala and York. While I didn't get a chance to go physically myself. A friend brought Hazel Coffee for me - a cold brew and their baked goodies (from Emily Bakes - IG handle @emilykate.bakes) who also bakes for Dozer! The cold brew was pretty standard and no complaints as it paired beautifully with the coffee cake (so soft and lovely!) as well as the pumpkin muffin! I'll have to stop into the store sometime.

Hazel coffee has quickly become a viral sensation in Ann Arbor, and for good reason! You can tell the staff are invested in people having a good experience; everyone is very friendly and welcoming, which really ensures you'll enjoy your time there. The coffee is excellent, and they have a good amount of drink options as well. The interior of the coffee shop is well decorated and has a lot of different seating options. The only downside of hazel is that because it's so popular, it can be a challenge to find a spot -- people love being here and they make it so appealing to hang out and grab another drink! Overall, Hazel is a fantastic spot to grab a coffee in Ann Arbor -- highly recommended!

Been waiting for this place to open!! Love having a coffee place in the neighborhood. Super friendly staff and love the space and interior! The coffee was great. They have alternate milk options and flavors. I tried an oat milk latte with hazelnut and it was delicious! Can't wait to come back :) Bonus: they have doggo treats outside so def bringing my pup with me on a walk next time!

I normally go to York (which is across the street from Hazel), so when I drove by on Packard I was excited to check this place out since it's new to me! I like the aesthetic inside and the mismatched chairs. They play music that you can actually hear so it's not background/ambient. My friend and I got: - peppermint mocha - iced banana bread matcha latte: I enjoyed this! The banana bread flavor wasn't too artificial and it added the right amount of sweetness to the matcha. It got really busy later in the morning. You can't really park in the parking lot because that's for apartment residents only. So you have to park on the street and there was enough parking but I can't imagine if it gets busy (in the summer or warmer weather) where people would park.

Cute spot! Absolutely delicious Michigan maple latte, which I got iced and with oat milk. Would definitely come back for this drink specifically, but looking forward to trying others! Fun interior with actually cute merch and details. Lots of spots to sit in. In a residential area. No parking in the lot behind the building! Lots of street parking available though and a couple dedicated to go spots. Dog treats out front!

Ambiance and space is great. Super packed - ALWAYS. Good vibes but felt rushed. Will try again!

Finally had the chance to stop in here and check it out! The inside is super cute with some tables to work at. You have to find street parking since the lot is for residents only. I got the salted maple latte with cloud foam and my boyfriend got the banana bread matcha. The cloud foam was super yummy I would just have preferred the latte with a little less syrup. The matcha did not have banana flavor to us. Overall a cute spot, I would try the coffee again!

I tried the banana bread matcha and it was delicious! I would have preferred a stronger banana taste or sweet element, but the matcha flavor is definitely there. I will be back to try the coffee!

This place appeared on my fyp a few days before it's soft launch a couple weeks ago and I knew I had to try it out! Just made my way over there today and absolutely LOVED it. This might be some of the best coffee I've ever had! The space is bright and has tons of natural lighting. There are a lot of tables for studying, however they were all full when I arrived, so while I dread the battle I will have to fight to get a table, I'm so glad they are getting good business! I've kind of been on a coffee hiatus for awhile now (just haven't been feeling it I guess) but Hazel Coffee's Cinnamon Sugar Latte launched me out of that rut real fast. The flavor was great and not too sweet. To-go orders come in cute little round cups, kind of like boba. The espresso was perfect and you can tell it was poured well and not burnt. The baristas are all super friendly and your drink comes out quickly! Truly bringing southern hospitality to the Midwest :) I will definitely be coming back to study or grab a coffee on my way into Ann Arbor for class!

Coconut latte was highly average. Very little coffee or coconut taste. My husband said his cold brew was pretty mid.

Meh, my coconut latte was mid. It tasted like 98% of it was milk. Very little coffee or coconut flavor. My husband said his cold brew was mid too; said it had zero flavor.

Huh? That's okay because they must have sharp knives that slice easily through bagels. Nope. Might as well try cutting your bagel with a spoon. Because of the difficulty eating the bagels, they weren't finished. My "Cheesy-P" (terrible name) was just heated up in the microwave. Not much effort involved in that. We think our bagels weren't toasted, but heated up in the microwave too. Blah. A little more effort would go a whole lot further. The protein ball aren't really appealing either, but they might have been if the other food was decent. Coffee good. Skip the food. Seems like coffee shops with more food options, should really take it seriously. I don't think Roos does.

For bites I went with the chorizo potato burrito which was really good. It was also a great value for the price point as it was quite a sizeable portion. I also love a sweet treat so I tried the maple waffles and that was also a great price for the size (two belgian waffles infused with cinnamon and maple, no need for the syrup!). I hear good things about the space itself but I haven't been in yet. I look forward to checking it out, though! But even for delivery it's a very solid option.

The main thing Drip House has going for it is that it is effectively the only coffee spot to sit and study or meet someone right by the stadium (where a bunch of us live and/or work). It is also open into the early evening when a lot of other coffee spots aren't. And we do love an outside seating option. The service has always been just fine and it's a pretty cute spot (not to sound ridiculously nit-picky but while we're here--someone might wanna sheer some of the many dead leaves off the beautiful plant inside though). Also, the banana oat latte they had as a special a couple months ago was delicious. So yummy. Some things I don't love about Drip House: the blue chairs. So uncomfortable. It is expensive and, dare I say, overpriced. The first time I got my $14 piece of ricotta toast, it was delicious. And I figured, fine. It's $14 for a piece of bread with a little cheese and jam but it's so yummy, I'll splurge every once in a while and go with it. Plus, I can't eat tree nuts, so it is one of the few options for me. However, the second time I got it, it was most definitely not worth it. The "whipped" ricotta was just a sad, thin wet layer and there was practically no jam. I get it. It's expensive out here. We're living in the shadows of the avocado toast economy where espresso drinks cost minimum $7 and you effectively can't buy anything for less than $4. But just because you feel like you *can* doesn't mean you *should.* Paying $14 for a piece of bread.... Come on. It's insulting. It feels exploitative. Will i be going back? Yes, because of the proximity and sometimes a girl needs to go for a cute little walk to get a coffee--just to feel something. Would I if there was a competing coffee shop nearby? That remains to be seen. Also the size of the "large" iced drink. Come on guys.

Most recently I came here for a meeting, ordering a vanilla latte and a sweet potato hand pie to nibble on since I hadn't eaten yet. The description of the latter sounded so good, sweet potatoes with black beans and a few other veggies, wrapped up in flaky pie dough. The filling, however, was mostly pureed, giving it more of a baby food consistency which I didn't love. The flavor was good though but I couldn't get over the mushy texture. The black beans weren't pureed in but were few and far between (I think I maybe counted 2 or 3?). In addition to my hand pie I also ordered a piece of the billionaire's shortbread but they didn't ring it up/prepare it. By the time I realized it (I had to wait for my hand pie to be heated up) it was only a few minutes before close so I didn't bother going back up to the counter to reorder. IDK if they were just in a hurry to close or genuinely didn't hear my order but it was a bummer since it did look great. The vanilla latte, however, was quite good. And for a coffee shop that's most important. And what they lacked in substantial food options they did make up for in fun, seasonal drink specials and a few sweet treats like cookies and the aforementioned shortbread. The space is very cute, as well, and made for a really comfortable meeting location. So overall I did like my visit here. I just won't be rushing back here if I'm feeling peckish. But for a caffeinated pick me up and a nice place to meet or chill, this definitely fits the bill.
