A good local coffee shop. Stopped in to check out their options, ended up getting a Tiramisu latte- it was delicious but really expensive. This looks like a great study or work spot, plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The service was pretty quick. Not a bad option!

What a great spot. Loved the vibes of people working on laptops, the low chatter of other patrons, and the plentiful options to order. I scrapped my original plan when I noticed a "butterfinger latte" on the seasonal menu board. I was not disappointed at all. It was absolutely delicious and I probably should've ordered more than one while I was in town. Alas, maybe next time.

We were in Ann Arbor for a weekend wedding. We wanted a quick start to our day and Black Diesel failed miserably. Our drinks came out at a slow pace but 2 breakfast burritos and a bagel tok over 45 minutes (and counting) to come up. They were staffed with 3 people behind the counter and the place was barely 1/3 occupied. Huge disappointment.

Came on an early Sunday afternoon to work. Atmosphere was very good and quiet and service was excellent. Tried their affogato after seeing it advertised on their social media which was quite nice.

Stopped by on a weekday afternoon. The guy who took my order was friendly, but the rest of the staff seemed like a young bunch that were more interested in their own conversations. The interior was spacious and had a lot of seating. I prefer coffee shop ambience to be a bit more comfortable/cozy but that's just my taste. They have coffee, teas, pastries, gelato and some food options. I tried one of their seasonal lattes - I usually like my coffee sweeter but it was too sweet. I also got an almond tart that was dry and bland.

the food is VERY GOOD.. BUT 30 minutes... my family waiting 30 minutes to get oyr food and we couldve been home by then. the cafe itself looked pretty cool it was just crowded that day. BUT IT TOOK SO LONG

Black Diesel is one of my go to coffee shops in Ann Arbor! There's never a wait and the coffee comes out quick and is always yummy. My favorite drink is the butterfinger latte, which I think was seasonal to this fall. It is so so yummy and tastes just like a butterfinger! The inside is super cute with some places to sit and chat.

Great ambiance and awesome seating design for a small space. This coffee shop is functional for people working remotely while also being a comfortable space for guests looking to relax with a coffee. The barista mixed flavors for me to get the taste profile I was looking for. Great service here and the coffee is excellent too.

High recommendations! My companion enjoyed his Cortado (pictured) with an almond scone. The scone's almaretto was flavor-forward, but the texture was a bit too cakey for my palate. My coffee was perfect. Just enough sweetness, but not too much. Just enough oat milk too. Why not 5 stars? The food is an afterthought. Go for the coffee, skip the food. Bagels are whole. Not sliced. Huh? That's okay because they must have sharp knives that slice easily through bagels. Nope. Might as well try cutting your bagel with a spoon. Because of the difficulty eating the bagels, they weren't finished. My "Cheesy-P" (terrible name) was just heated up in the microwave. Not much effort involved in that. We think our bagels weren't toasted, but heated up in the microwave too. Blah. A little more effort would go a whole lot further. The protein ball aren't really appealing either, but they might have been if the other food was decent. Coffee good. Skip the food. Seems like coffee shops with more food options, should really take it seriously. I don't think Roos does.

It's not as if I'm opposed to gilding the lily so to speak. Give me a brownie and I'm happy to top it with vanilla ice cream, hot fudge, walnuts, and even a good cocktail cherry. That said, I love matcha. Thick, green, creamy, and grassy. I enjoy lighter styled traditional matcha too, even poured over ice. Perhaps even with a splash of oat milk. But then again, perhaps not. Really I am less keen on matcha flavored with syrups or espresso flavored with pretty much anything. Great coffee and traditional matcha I believe can be elevated with accompaniments, like an amazing buttery croissant or a sweet and chewy mochi. It's important to know going in that Hazel is beloved by the Instagram set who enjoy the visual appeal of layered and flavored drinks with bright, bold, and contrasting colors. And good for them. Those folks deserve to have a cafe that serves their needs. Perhaps one day I'll have a craving for a $10 drink with cloud foam piped on top as well. And on that day, I'll be very glad that Hazel exists. And I have to give props to Hazel for doing what they do the hard way. They make their syrups in house. They take care in crafting their drinks. They are very customer centric. The owners are charming and very hands on. The space they have created is warm and inviting -- as the kids say these days, it's a vibe. Their success, business acumen, and sound financial management is impressive. The bar for really good coffee in Ann Arbor keeps on going up. Hazel has definitely carved out a niche for themselves. I had high hopes when looking at the IG feed before they opened that the shop would focus on the classics, but I'm old and terrible at social media... and texting. I'm tragically bad at short form, and I do not understand memes one little bit. Even still, I will give them props for pulling the best espresso shot on Packard which is no small feat considering the beloved local businesses that are their direct competition.

The main thing Drip House has going for it is that it is effectively the only coffee spot to sit and study or meet someone right by the stadium (where a bunch of us live and/or work). It is also open into the early evening when a lot of other coffee spots aren't. And we do love an outside seating option. The service has always been just fine and it's a pretty cute spot (not to sound ridiculously nit-picky but while we're here--someone might wanna sheer some of the many dead leaves off the beautiful plant inside though). Also, the banana oat latte they had as a special a couple months ago was delicious. So yummy. Some things I don't love about Drip House: the blue chairs. So uncomfortable. It is expensive and, dare I say, overpriced. The first time I got my $14 piece of ricotta toast, it was delicious. And I figured, fine. It's $14 for a piece of bread with a little cheese and jam but it's so yummy, I'll splurge every once in a while and go with it. Plus, I can't eat tree nuts, so it is one of the few options for me. However, the second time I got it, it was most definitely not worth it. The "whipped" ricotta was just a sad, thin wet layer and there was practically no jam. I get it. It's expensive out here. We're living in the shadows of the avocado toast economy where espresso drinks cost minimum $7 and you effectively can't buy anything for less than $4. But just because you feel like you *can* doesn't mean you *should.* Paying $14 for a piece of bread.... Come on. It's insulting. It feels exploitative. Will i be going back? Yes, because of the proximity and sometimes a girl needs to go for a cute little walk to get a coffee--just to feel something. Would I if there was a competing coffee shop nearby? That remains to be seen. Also the size of the "large" iced drink. Come on guys.

Most recently I came here for a meeting, ordering a vanilla latte and a sweet potato hand pie to nibble on since I hadn't eaten yet. The description of the latter sounded so good, sweet potatoes with black beans and a few other veggies, wrapped up in flaky pie dough. The filling, however, was mostly pureed, giving it more of a baby food consistency which I didn't love. The flavor was good though but I couldn't get over the mushy texture. The black beans weren't pureed in but were few and far between (I think I maybe counted 2 or 3?). In addition to my hand pie I also ordered a piece of the billionaire's shortbread but they didn't ring it up/prepare it. By the time I realized it (I had to wait for my hand pie to be heated up) it was only a few minutes before close so I didn't bother going back up to the counter to reorder. IDK if they were just in a hurry to close or genuinely didn't hear my order but it was a bummer since it did look great. The vanilla latte, however, was quite good. And for a coffee shop that's most important. And what they lacked in substantial food options they did make up for in fun, seasonal drink specials and a few sweet treats like cookies and the aforementioned shortbread. The space is very cute, as well, and made for a really comfortable meeting location. So overall I did like my visit here. I just won't be rushing back here if I'm feeling peckish. But for a caffeinated pick me up and a nice place to meet or chill, this definitely fits the bill.
