The Yemen coffee was so good! The quality of the latte, for an affordable price compared to other Yemen coffee shops was worth it! The staff were very friendly and helped me decide on a drink. I recommend the Socotra latte if it's your first time as it is their signature drink and reminds me of a gingerbread latte. This is a great place to study or hangout with friends. Passed this place probably 30 times since I moved apartments and the lights from the street made me HAVE to go! Very friendly barista and after following her extremely helpful suggestions, went with the Honeycomb Latte, despite that not being one of my usual favorite flavors. And let me tell you, it was everything and more! So happy that I expanded my taste horizons! The place was decorated so cute and there were plenty tables and chairs for doing work or meeting with a friend. The drink itself had great flavor and had a hint of cinnamon that was just enough. I've been here a few times and am obsessed! The interior is stunning and such a nice vibe for coworking/studying. I love their socotra latte (w almond milk) it always hits the spot whether it's iced or hot. The selection of pastries and snacks can feel a tad overwhelming because everything looks so good. Though I can't stop ordering their honeycomb bread which is so good and perfectly gets the "not too sweet" balance I'm always hoping for! The outside is also super cute to sit at if it's a nice day. Socotra Coffee has a beautiful ambiance and reasonable prices, which made for a pleasant first impression. We ordered the Mofawar coffee and the honeycomb bread. The bread was excellent; warm, soft, and just sweet enough. The coffee, while flavorful, had bits of cardamom that made the texture a little grainy, which took away from the experience. I also asked if I could try a small sample of their other coffees or if they offered a tasting flight, given how bold and unique the flavors are, but they weren't willing to accommodate. Overall, it's a lovely space with some promise, but the service and coffee experience left us a bit underwhelmed. Still worth a visit if you're curious, especially for the baked goods. read more

Got the jubani coffee and pistachio croissant. The coffee was really flavorful, you could taste the ginger and subtle flavors of the nuts. I ended up getting a bag of it to make at home. I added sugar to mine, but I don't really think it needs it unless you like things sweet. The pistachio croissant was filled with creamy and nutty pistachio surrounded by chocolate. Wow, this place is really fantastic because the Coffee is genuinely impressive with all of the different styles that they have to order from. The pistachio coconut cream cake is exceptionally delicious both flavors textures and presentation. The people behind the counter are warm and friendly and there's plenty of seating. The only downside is it's a little louder than I'd like it to be, but this is a great great place. It had a rich, warm mix of hazelnut and caramel. The espresso was strong enough to stand out and blended perfectly with the toffee-nut flavor. The pistachio latte was more subtle. It tasted like a classic latte with a gentle, nutty hint of pistachio. Service was great. They brought out our drinks within 10 minutes and were very friendly. Last week, we celebrated three of our friends' surprise birthdays at Socotra Coffee House. We love Socotra and have been their customers since they opened a few years ago. I spoke to Nour over the phone and asked if they could join a few of their mango tiramisu cakes together to resemble a birthday cake. She wasn't sure if that could be done, but she and the fabulous baker at Socotra assured that they would try their best. When we got there, we were so surprised to see what the baker came up with for us. They went above and beyond to present us with more than we could have expected from a cafe. The "cake" was ready when the birthday girls arrived, and they played the birthday song to add to the joy of a dozen very noisy ladies. We enjoyed our night away with Adeni tea and many more of their delicious cakes and pastries. We showed our gratitude to team Socotra with a big thank you and a hefty tip; you deserved it. I ordered a tasty socotra latte and adeni tea at this coffee house. The socotra itself had a great cardamom/cinnamon flavor, and the pot of tea and accompanying glasses made for a pseudo afternoon tea environment that I enjoyed with my friends. We also sampled some soft of pillow-y honey bread with cheese inside, a truly unique dessert that was both sweet and savory. Did you hear there is a new Yemeni coffee place on the south side of Ann Arbor? It's true and it's lovely! I popped in this morning for a freshly made cup of medium roast coffee made with cardamom and it was delicious. On my next trip, I'm looking forward to trying a more intensely spiced coffee on the menu that includes saffron in the mix, with a light roast coffee as its base. Socotra has other Yemeni classics like Adeni Chai and Qishr. I love both of these and certainly will return to try these as well! Yes, there is also espresso and a full menu of espresso drinks. Eventually I suspect I will make my way to these, but my plan is to prioritize the regional drinks first. Plus there are all the sweets and breads from the region. I do enjoy a good honeycomb pastry, but I'm still trying to slim down from all the summer travel, so those will have to wait for the moment. Socotra is just a week old, and people have yet to find it on the south side of Packard just east of Platt. If Yemeni sweets aren't your thing, you could always pick up a donut across the street. But you may want to have your coffee or tea in their ample indoor or outdoor space. There is free wifi and the inside is clean, well lit, and offers plenty of seating. I should also mention the staff could not have been friendlier. I was asked if I had ever tried Yemeni coffee before. Indeed I had. However, since this is new to the neighborhood, the clear expectation is there will be plenty of first timers who will be welcomed with open arms. While I've only had one coffee from Socotra, I'm definitely a fan. Am I in love with the place? Not yet. It takes a little more than just one tasty cup of coffee to win my heart. But I eagerly anticipate visiting again, trying more of the menu, and updating this review with a fifth star. read more

So excited to have Socotra Coffee House in our neighborhood! We saw the "coming soon" signs and anticipated it opening. Now it's been open and week and we've paid two visits. Lots of coffee and drink options from different coffee blends to espresso, tea, other specialty drinks, etc. Huge selection of pastries and cakes -- there's something for everyone. So far we've tried: - Iced Socotra latte: creamy and delicious with a deep, chocolatey coffee flavor - Adeni chai: I've had this iced but I bet it's even better warm. There are amazing little granules of ginger and sugar that really make this fun to drink - meat pie: pastry with spiced ground meat on top. A favorite of ours - spinach pie: SO good, especially warmed up. We eat a lot of spinach pies from places around town and this might be our favorite - cheese and olive pastry: just what you'd expect! A solid choice. - honeycomb bread: this is the star. It's like tender mini dinner rolls but with sweet cream cheese incorporated and sesame seeds on top. You can try it with different topping options, too -- pistachio, coconut, etc. One day I'll dine in so I can take more elegant photos but I don't think you can go wrong with any of their baked goods, and they are made in-house! The interior is beautiful with tons of seating, and there is seating on a little patio out front as well. They did an awesome job remodeling this space into a welcoming and aesthetically pleasing coffee shop. Definitely stop in! Wow this place is one of my new faves! I had an iced mocha and my sister had the iced socotra latte to drink! The socotra has cardamom and cinnamon, as well as coffee... it's sooo good! She tried the Oreo, lotus, and pumpkin cheesecake and said they were great! (I'm gf) the honeycomb bread (cream cheese, soft fluffy bread, and honey on top) was also something she had, and said it was divine. Service was quick and friendly, and the vibes were great! First of all, it's one of the few places around town with good hours - they're open til 10pm on weeknights and 12am on weekends, which makes so much sense in a town like Ann Arbor. On top of that, their coffee is so fun and tasty... we often get their pots and share, and they're always delicious. Their desserts are incredible too. The staff is always super friendly and keeps the place moving well, and the interior is so cute. Plenty of tables and a fair amount of outlets. A great place to work or hang out. And the wifi worked great! I opted for the caramel macchiato, playing it safe with a classic choice, but I quickly regretted not choosing a new flavor.
