These guys are great. They are available, reasonably affordable compared to other mechanics in town, and friendly. The best thing is that they are honest about their work. They won't try to up-sell you on work that you don't need done, and if they are troubleshooting a problem, then will start small and inexpensively to try to solve the problem before they try more expensive repairs. We had them repair the faulty turn signal switch in our minivan, and when they finished it up and we got it back, the airbag dash light was on all the time. So I called them back, they apologized and checked it out, found they installed a faulty part, and they replaced it and did the labor for free. That's quality and honesty right there! Took my car in for a catalytic converter replacement (not stolen, just faulty), never a cheap thing. The guy helping me (totally spacing on his name right now) not only hooked me up with a loaner car, but found a replacement kit that ended up costing less with labor than a factory converter would have cost by itself! These guys are fantastic! I had a nightmare of a situation with a company that basically blew up my engine from an oil change. The guys were more than helpful and understanding even when the process took well over a couple of months to complete due to the company avoiding the damages. All in all everything was covered and the guys got my vehicle back to me in wonderful shape. I had scheduled an appointment on a Thursday a week and a half in advance. I dropped my car off the Wednesday night before my appointment. I gave them a call Thursday morning and they said they'd look at my car. They never returned my call that day. So I called on Friday morning. Didn't answer the phone a few times. After the 2nd or 3rd call throughout the day, a man answered the phone and responded with an attitude "you have to schedule these things in advance, we're usually a week out". As I was responding to this with "well I scheduled an appointment for Thursday" he HUNG UP ON ME. Later in the day Friday he called me back and said "we have your car here ready for you but you have to come now because I'm leaving early today" so I had to drop everything I was doing which I WAS EATING DINNER. When I arrived, the price wasn't accurate. He initially charged me 240$ for a pig tail headlight. I immediately questioned it. He was like "oh yeah sorry I mis priced it, that'll be 190$". At this point I was just fed up with the service. I wrote the check and got out of there as soon as I could. After getting out to my car, THE BATTERY WAS DEAD. Never had an issue with my battery before. I went back into the shop and informed the worker my battery was now dead. He blamed it on the battery's age. Again, never had an issue with my battery before. Luckily the car started after the 3rd attempt. A week after fixing my headlight's pigtail, (All this for a pigtail btw), the headlight went out again. Didn't fix the issue. I called them back and explained the issue again. They said they'd return my call. It's been a week now. THEY HAVEN'T RETURNED MY PHONE CALL YET. My family and I have been loyal customers here for 10+ years, giving them plenty of business. I have to say we no longer will be going here. Overall service: Incredibly terrible, unprofessional, and a rip off. Didn't honor the appointment I made, seemed clueless about prices, and gave me attitude when I just gave them a call. Recommendation: DON'T GO HERE. read more

Hazel park auto is the real deal. I recently moved to St Paul and, like all my moves, I worried about finding a mechanic I can trust. These guys are much more interested in getting you back on the road than taking you for a ride. I'm a decent shade-tree mechanic and Hazel Park Auto gave me several quotes for my repair depending upon how much of the job I wanted to do myself (much of it was beyond my ability and beyond my tool inventory) They were honest in what needed to be fixed immediately and what could wait for later without trying to up-sell and without compromising safety. They were right in line with other quotes I received, but more honest about the urgency of the other repairs. As much as I hate spending cash at a repair shop, I felt good about my dealing with Andy and the crew at Hazel Park Auto. So I just went to Hazel Park Auto for the first time today, based almost entirely on the excellent reviews I'd read here on Yelp, and WOW am I happy I did! My tire went flat mysteriously yesterday and today I put on my spare and went to have it looked at. Hazel Park Auto inspected my tire, did the soapy water test to try and find a leak/etc and found absolutely nothing wrong it. They filled it up and put it back on my car and charged me NOTHING for any of it. Now, let's be honest. I know next to nothing about cars. My partner is the one who put the spare on for me, I can't even successfully change my own windshield wipers (yes, I've tried). These people could've told me anything, from I needed all new tires to I had screwed up the whatever whatever component of my thingamajig. Instead, they were honest, charged me nothing, and sent me on my way. So. The rave reviews seem to be right on. I will DEFINITELY come back to Hazel Park Auto...I think I'm in love! :) read more

All I can say is that these guys are great!!! I went in here with some car issues and they gave me a reasonable quote. When the car was finished it ended up being cheaper than the previous quote due to the labor wasn't to bad so instead of charging me the original cost anyways like most auto repair shops they shaved off a few $$. These guys are strait up professionals and greets you with a smile even though it was 7:30am. I will let my friends/family know about this place and I will defiantly be going back to these guys. I agree with the other review. I've never had any work done that didn't need to be done. As a matter of fact, they have saved me lots of money over the years by only fixing what needs to be fixed and not doing unnecessary work. These guys have been trustworthy and honest for the twenty years I've been doing business with them... Heck, these guys have out-lasted two marriages and three dogs. Based on friends' recommendations and their five star rating, I took my car to Hazel Park Auto for the first time yesterday. I am so glad I did. My car had several problems which a car dealership quoted me a repair amount of $600.00! I chose to take it to Hazel Park . Instead of replacing parts, they choose to repair them. My repair bill there came to $232.00!! They had my car ready the same day as I brought it in and were professional in all aspect s of our transaction. As someone who knows very little about cars, I always get nervous when something goes wrong with my vehicle and I'm left vulnerable to people who can be truthful or not....and I would be none the wiser.
