Once great auto repair seems to have fallen to mediocre. My girlfriend went to them for years, and it was refreshing to know you could actually trust someone. And while I believe that they are still decent mechanics, the problem seems to be that they are so busy, that things are falling through the crack ins a big way. We took my 2003 Pontiac Vibe in and I told them it needed a new engine. They decided it didn't and that they could fix it for about half the price. Now, my girlfriend is extremely aware of the cars she drives. To the point that I am sure that over the years the must roll their eyes when she calls because she heard a "strange sound". But she and I both told them, IT NEEDS A NEW ENGINE... We were told it didn't and that o couple of fuel injectors, and starter coils, fluid changes, and misc other things would get it back up and going. I heard her tell them, "It has to be fixed so I don't have to worry about it" Knowing my girlfriend like they do, I had no doubt they understood her as they have been dealing with her for years. Well, within hours of the $1400 repairs, the engine light comes on. You can try calling them, but the never answer the phone, or it goes to some sort of network. This is nothing new as getting a hold of anyone is nearly impossible. You have to stop in. Which isn't the worst thignas ni the orld unless they call and leave you a message and you need to call them back to okay repairs, or whatever. We spent a week trying to get a hold of them, to no avail. Within that week , it burned , not leaked, burned 1 quart of oil. This isn't a 70's car, this shouldn't happen to a vehicle that is running correctly. Then it started to get louder, as 4 days after picking it up, i kid you not, the catalytic converter gave out. Now, I know enough about cars that the codes it was giving off would have sent the O2 sensor off. But no one even check this. It's like they reset it and moved on. Finally took ti to another Champlain auto care, as we couldn't even get in touch with JPT and it would be another 3 weeks to even get them to look at at. Chaplain Auto put a new catalytic converter on it, the discovers that indeed the engine was bad, and it needed a new one. Well, who could have guessed that, oh wait, I told them that . The guys at Champlain didn't even charge us for the catalytic converter or the labor because they felt so bad about everything that they knew had gone on getting this car up and running. So after $1400 and years of loyalty to JPT, we are done. The simplest things like double checking their work, or even having a way to get a hold of them is not something that can be expected from them. Were they a great place to take your care? Sure, in the past. But now they are so busy, they seem to have lost the quality service they were once known for. You can't get a hold of them, and even when you can you have to schedule weeks out. That wouldn't be a big deal if you could trust their work, but I am afraid that time has come and gone. I ended up having to scrap the car less then a month after paying $1400 to get it fixed. I gave them 2 stars because of what they once were, but they only deserve 1 for what they are now. They do have long standing relationships with most of their customers, and we were a couple of them. However, the lack of communication, the lack of the quality of their work, and seeming nonchalant attitude about what happens to their customers after they get paid and leave the shop is something that I can't overlook. Maybe you'll be one of the lucky ones. I am just telling you my story. It cost me $1400 and a car, not to mention a really pissed of girlfriend. My advice to you? A needed part to fix my struts was back ordered 2.5 months, JPT was able to make the part in their shop! I also was very pleased when told that $$$ work a tire shop in Golden Valley recommended was not needed at all!!! And JPT charged less than the GV tire shop estimated for the strut job. JPT is truly a paradox...a spectacular, honest and reliable mechanic. Sounds crazy I know, but hear me out. My family has been going to JPT for our cars since I can remember. My husband's family has been going to JPT for their cars, since before we even met. And as far as I know, they service my entire extended family as well. This may not sound like something extraordinary, but our family goes through crappy cars like nobody's business. If our history is not enough proof, they frequently answer routine calls regarding "strange noises" your car may be making, and have even gone so far as to take it for a test drive to see first hand what the issue might be. In our last experience with them, all we asked was for them to change the oil, and replace all the fluids we went through after a road trip. They did that, checked out the brakes and even found a defect on our brand new car that the dealership had "missed". They called Mazda in order to ask whether or not the part and replacement would be under our warranty. I honestly almost hesitate to pass on the good word because I know that if they get any busier, it will be harder and harder to get my car in to be fixed!! read more

JPT is a hidden gem. I wouldn't have known about it if I didn't drive past it every day since it is right by my house. The work that they do is good, honest, quality work. That's why they have so many loyal customers. Their advertising is all done by word-of-mouth and this place is almost always busy. They will take great care of you though and your vehicle as well of course. Their rates are usually better than any other shop and they won't try to rip you off by claiming additional repairs are necessary when they truly aren't. We have been going here for many years. Love this place!! Very honest and great prices on everything we have ever had done. I just can't say enough great things about this place. I have never had a bad experience and we have had so many things done to so many vehicles over the years. They have a tiny waiting room to sit in if needed which I have spent time in with my kids. You aren't going to get the fluff like dealerships offer while you are waiting. BUT you are going to get charged a fraction of the price for repairs. They do not price gouge at all. and the repairs are done correctly and as quickly as they can do them understandably they are very busy because they are very good and have many return customers. If you want a good mechanic this is the place to go. You do have to call in advance because they are very busy. We heard about them about 15 years ago and have been going every since. Here are two examples of their honesty and character. 1. Early on we had some car trouble and went to another mechanic, one associated with a dealership. They gave us a rather long list of things wrong with our car and a very expensive estimate on fixing it. Well, we had gone to JPT once and thought we would take the car back to them because we liked them and we thought it might be cheaper. We brought the list and the car to them. They looked it over and told us that only two items on that list needed fixing and the rest were bogus. Wow talk about honesty! 2. Like I said we have been going to them for a long time. Recently our daughter brought her car in and one of the owners remembered her. Well she hadn't been in there since she was very young but not only did he remember her he asked her how old she was when we lived on Ewing Ave because that was the last time he had seen her. She is 20 now, we lived on Ewing when she was 10. Not only did he remember her but he remembered the street we lived on. He couldn't believe how much she had grown. He gave her tomato's from his garden and sent her on her way. They are so personal, and so honest! I remember when they almost lost the lease on the place they are at and thought they might have to close down. I freaked on that one. If I had the money I would have bought them a new place just so we could continue going there. Fortunately they didn't lose the lease. Once you go there you won't want to go anywhere else, they are people of integrity and they stand by their work. read more

That is definitely for a good reason, because it is hard to find a place like this.
