This is a local gem. It's small and cozy and inviting inside but I can see it getting pretty busy…read moreduring the breakfast hours on weekends so plan accordingly. Bert is the baker and chef and he knows his craft. I got a fruit cake ( very moist and rum filled ) and a gingerbread house and both were phenomenal. From what I saw spying at patrons plates the breakfast and lunch food look delicious and everyone seemed very satisfied with what they had. The menu is somewhat seasonal it seems. For example , I've heard Bert does a good chicken pot pie but not during the holidays bc he concentrates on foods for that time of year. Remember that this is a mom and pop kinda place. Only one person in front and Bert in the back so don't expect fast service. But that is why you should come here to rub elbows with the locals and just enjoy life and good food.

I ordered the egg/cheese/bacon Croissant ( they do offer other breads) it was finger licking good, yummy croissant. My two friends ate the Quiche with much delight. Coffee was served, strong and pipping hot. They have many delicious deserts, cakes, pies and breads for sale. Way better than any dinner, try them and you will become a fan. Bert the owner will welcome you with a great smile.

Wow. I expected their Cuban sandwich to be good based on all the reviews and photos, but I was…read morehonestly blown away by how great it was. It had perfect ingredients and the perfect proportion of everything. My partner and I shared one. We also got an order of the pernil (roast pork) with rice and beans, and shared that. The pernil was amazing! Tender and flavorful - it's probably one of the best ever! In fact the only Cuban sandwich I ever had that was as good as this one was when I worked in NYC in the 1980's, and I went to a small Cuban restaurant near my office on West 46th street. The rice and beans were great, along with the sauce they give you, which is just spicy enough and flavorful enough to bring every flavor sense front and center. Portions were also big enough that we have leftovers for tomorrow!!! Service was friendly, caring, and with a smile. Loved everything about this place and the warmth of the people who clearly love what they do. Sadly we had no room for dessert, but next time we'll make up for it!

It may seem that way, but you're paying for quality, and you get it. There are a few tables inside that seat four and some under the overhang. It's the baked goods that are the showstoppers. With my wife and 2 other siblings we selected white cake with either strawberry preserves filling with fresh strawberry, blueberry mousse which had whole blueberries, lemon mousse and buttercream. They give you a cup with 2 of your selections in each stacked on top of one another.Mary who was the manager helped us with any questions and concerns, she was very friendly. We decided we would prefer the strawberry filling. The sheet cake was about $250 and a layer cake for about 100 people started at around $700. The store is a magical spot for all sorts of pastries. Also samples are made available on the counter. My wife sampled a carrot cake and said it was delicious. I tried an apple Pastry and it was amazing. Those sample cakes we tried were also excellent. If you're looking for a cake or dessert in general you have to try The Pastry Garden you can't go wrong.

Upon arrival each person pays a $10 cover charge that you receive a ticket for use in the country store in the amount of $10, so technically you get your money back as long as you buy something. Honestly the visiting experience was only okay, I am not sure I'd go back or recommend it BUT this is tempered by the fact that I did buy the biggest, prettiest mum and I may go back again for another one next year. I definitely have the nicest mum in all of Jersey City. I think it was around $20 for my huge mum and I was going to buy some apple cider donuts, but when I saw they were charging $18 for 12 donuts I put the package back on the shelf.

Honestly best apple cider donuts I've ever had + freshly baked , not stale at all and very soft and fluffy (but you have to buy it in a dozen, you can't buy individual) Lots of apples to choose from ~5-8 kinds from evercrisp to snapdragon to gold rush. Gold rush & pink lady were my favorite. Atmosphere: Loved for fall! There's was live music, plenty of apples and pumpkins to pick from, plenty of benches and seating indoors and outdoors for eating, and areas for children to play Dogs allowed! Service: friendly everywhere!! Price: cheap for entry, food is $$. You have to pay a $10 fee but it goes towards anything you buy. For apple cider & cider donuts I would say worth the price. Apple picking is charged by the pound
