This is a local gem. It's small and cozy and inviting inside but I can see it getting pretty busy during the breakfast hours on weekends so plan accordingly. Bert is the baker and chef and he knows his craft. I got a fruit cake ( very moist and rum filled ) and a gingerbread house and both were phenomenal. From what I saw spying at patrons plates the breakfast and lunch food look delicious and everyone seemed very satisfied with what they had. The menu is somewhat seasonal it seems. For example , I've heard Bert does a good chicken pot pie but not during the holidays bc he concentrates on foods for that time of year. Remember that this is a mom and pop kinda place. Only one person in front and Bert in the back so don't expect fast service. But that is why you should come here to rub elbows with the locals and just enjoy life and good food. read more

Lovely little gem "  hiding " on Robinson Street off Main Street Fishkill. Service was wonderful with our young waitress with a smile. I ordered the egg/cheese/bacon Croissant ( they do offer other breads) it was finger licking good, yummy croissant. My two friends ate the Quiche with much delight. Coffee was served, strong and pipping hot. They have many delicious deserts, cakes, pies and breads for sale. Way better than any dinner, try them and you will become a fan. A cozy bakery I finally got to try, I have say the women behind the counter was a perfect sales woman, she recommended stuff, let know what everything was and so sweet, always nice to see someone love there job. The vanilla scone was yummy, lightly sweet and very rare to find since most scones that sweet are either blueberry or cranberry orange. Chocolate lattice cookie was crunchy and light sweet. Street parking only! There are two parking lots nearby one for the bank and one for another business so be careful not to park there or you could get towed! Anyways the parking aside this shop is so cute! You feel like you are walking into one of those hallmark movie shops. Everything looks amazing and smells delicious, I had the BEC, SEC, and pastries. It was all made fresh and had great flavor. I bought some chicken pot pie that has to be reheated in the oven for lunch later today and I'm sure that will be great too as the crust looks golden and perfect. Although the reviews are good the owners are not. Most of their customers utilize the small parking lot for Wells Fargo Bank and every time I go to the bank I cannot get a spot. I am handicapped and they also take the one and only handicap spot. I approached the owners and suggested they put a sign asking their customers to not park in the bank lot. The wife with her 2in. eyeliner told me off and the husband just stood there like a wimp. So disrespectful. The bank said they will be taking care of the problem. There are signs on every spot but people are rude. Tells you a lot about his customers. He wont last another year there. read more

Imagine my shock and chagrin to get the bill that instead charged $16 per chicken pot pie!!! If this isn't bait and switch, I don't know what is! When I brought it to the attention of the proprietor, he would not budge, even though the menu clearly showed the lower price. The server removed the menus from the tables after I complained. Ordered a "Umberto" panini (mozzarella, tomato, pesto) with bacon. It's really good. Fresh mozzarella and bacon with ripe tomatoes was delicious. My wife and I just moved to the Village of Fishkill from Indianapolis to be closer to our family. We've only been here for about a month or so but have already been to Berts multiple times. Bert is an amazing baker and he and his wife Diane are wonderful people. Everyone who works at Berts is super friendly and helpful. And the food is out of this world good. So far we have tried their breakfast sandwiches, lunch paninis, apple turnovers, cinnamon rolls, cheesecake, carrot cake, deep dish quiche and a few others and everything has been 5 stars. They even make a veggie panini that my vegetarian son and daughter-in-law rave about. Oh and they've added soft serve ice cream just in time for the summer! The small pumpkin pie I bought was really good and the service was friendly and efficient. But the multigrain bread was awful. The crust was rock hard and the inside was kind of soft but had no taste at all. I don't think it was very fresh. I know some breads have a hard crust while being soft on the inside but I think this was just stale. I tried one slice and the rest sound up in the trash. Money wasted. There is another review here that quotes the owner/baker as saying that wearing masks is "ridiculous". The young lady who waited on me was wearing one but after reading that other review I am reluctant to return. And some reviewers found different items to be hit or miss. read more

My wife and I just moved to the area and decided to pop in Bert's and try some delicious local eats. The two staff members were gracious and accommodating and made us feel right at home. The snap options looked incredibly appetizing behind the glass. I chose a croissant breakfast sandwich which was just incredible. Sweet buttery flakes in every bite and my wife chose a Cinnamon roll. After finishing our meal I couldn't help but go back in an get some coconut macaroons and chocolate dipped short bread cookie to go. Next we will hit the bread selection. One of the best cafe's I've been to in a long time! It's a wonderful local mom and pop cafe. My favorite seasonal item is their Irish Soda bread. I was excited to find out they have scone versions which are perfect for breakfast. Roseann (Bert's wonderful wife) always toasts them with butter for me. Who is such a sweet and wonderful woman! Always the best customer service and makes me feel like I'm visiting home. Their breakfast sandwiches are amazing especially with the PRETZEL bagels. If you haven't tried it, you're missing out!
