I went to Sidney twice to help me blend my hair as I'm growing out my gray. I'd heard that it's a harsh process to completely strip and re-dye to match the roots so I wanted something that wasn't too damaging but did soften the demarcation line to my dyed-deep-red-copper ends. At both five months and eight months in, Sidney did a foil to lighten the ends and also applied a toner to cool the color and I couldn't be happier. My ends are less blorange without getting absolutely fried and Sidney did it for what I felt was a very reasonable price, considering the time and work it took. I also tagged on two cuts with Erin, who also did a great job, both had ideas and took suggestions, and was a delight to chat with. :) read more

I started coming to this salon about 2 years ago because I was getting married and needed to get a fancy up-do, but also to try adding some highlights to my dark brown hair which I'd never done before. I'm very low maintenance and usually go for the au natural look (Makeup? Blech. Shaving my legs/armpits on a regular basis? For the devil!), but for this special occasion, I knew I should go to the very best. So of course I asked my highly opinionated, always right, and in-the-know friend, @Audrey "The Ril Skee" H. for a recommendation. She suggested Christy Carner and so I did. I don't remember how I got paired with Erin, but she gave me a trim to get my hair in shape for the big day and I've been seeing her ever since. Finally, a hairdresser I click with and does amazing cuts. Like others have noted, her cuts stay fresh for MONTHS. I said I am low maintenance and its the truth - I only get a cut maybe twice a year, but I often get complimented on my few months' old haircut as if I had it done just the other day. The colorists at the salon are always amazing - whether you see Sidney or Anjanette - both ladies have been in the biz forever and do fantastic, quick work. Christy herself did my up-do for my wedding and it was beautiful as expected. Didn't move an inch all day long and held up great. Michelle Healy is a skilled stylist who can do it all--cut, color, styling. She's such a delight and I'm truly excited to go in and talk with her while she works wonders on my hair. I have long, straight, fine hair and Michelle makes it fuller and healthier. I think the most important part of the appointment is a mutual understanding of what the client wants and what will actually look best for the client. Michelle listens to you, takes notes and talks it all out to make sure she knows what to do before she starts. My hair has NEVER looked better!!! The salon is also very chic and comfortable. There are even beautiful paintings done by another stylist hanging on the walls. It's nice to give my business to a workplace that fosters a supportive and collaborative environment. I'm sure you'll become a regular here after giving it a try. The price is average for a high quality salon where employees specialize in services. I recently started seeing Michelle H at this salon, I was a bit nervous going to someone new but anyone with an active Instagram always makes the decision easier to see a growing portfolio of their work and continued trainings. Even during COVID restrictions their salon is spotless and comfortable to be in! Michelle was absolutely amazing, listened to what I actually wanted for my hair, and was super realistic about what it would cost, what we could get done in one session, and the timeline it would take, in my case, to get to a much brighter blonde. She used a variety of techniques to achieve the color we wanted, and it was included in my original price vs. having to pay for multiple add-ons. There is nothing better than transparency during the process and someone that knows their own limits in how to best treat your hair is hard to come by! Holy moly! These geniuses turned me from a veteran blonde to a newly minted brunette, and it was painless! I was given a glass of wine while they worked their magic on my tresses. They were so friendly I almost forgot I was in a high-end salon where often you can be met with disdain. I had one of the best head massages ever while being shampooed, and I came out feeling like a new person. One very interesting thing about this salon is that everyone focuses on one area of expertise. For your haircut, you get a 'designer' (mine was Kirk - he rocked) and you get a different person for color, (mine was Christina) who is dedicated only to that part of the "artistic" hair process. I loved this system! I met two fabulous people who were incredibly knowledgeable, and they made my hair look really good. Now that I'm headed to Asia and thinking of getting back to my blonde roots, I wouldn't consider going anywhere else to make the switch back. They care for hair! read more

I had my first trip here today. First of all, I completely missed my original appointment because my lunch meeting ran late. The salon called me while I was on the road, 15 min after I was supposed to be there, and offered to move me to another slot later in the afternoon. They were extremely gracious about it, despite the fact that I had missed my original appointment with practically no notice. I had Erin cut my hair. I chose her while making an appointment over the phone because her prices were really good. She did a beautiful job. She totally nailed the things I wanted to do with my hair and gave my cut a little bit of personal flair, as well, which is the thing that really makes or breaks a new cut or style for me. I came in feeling a little ragged and left looking really sharp. I spent $10 more than I would have for a haircut at a chain barbershop that takes walk-ins, and I got a lot of quality for my money. I paid nearly twice as much for the same quality and attention when I was living in Chicago. I have had a few hit and miss experiences with different salons after moving to Seattle, but I think I have found my staple place for hair care. read more

I have been to Cristy Carner Salon 2 times now. I have had Erin cut my hair both times. She is really great at listening to what you want and giving helpful ideas and suggestions to really make you look your best! I am in the process now of growing my hair out long and along the way she is keeping it fun by giving me cute bangs or adding some more layers for more body. So the growing out process is fun and my hair looks great through all the stages! Cristy Carner Salon. The salon is really hip and classy. The front desk is super friendly and make you comfortable while you wait offering you beverages, a robe, and magazines. I also appreciate the artist touches they have there such as interesting photography and hanging mirrors from the ceiling for work stations. Very creative and effective way to use a space. read more

I can't get enough of this place! It is my little bit of luxury every time I need to get my hair done. Sydney is amazing at coloring my hair! We start talking celebrities and next thing I know, I walk out of there feeling like one. Amy does my eye brows and I have always been pleased. The space is open, bright, humming of soft coffee shop music and the giant silver framed mirrors hanging in front of every station make me feel like a princess, not to mention the glass of wine or tea I am offered upon arrival! Sydney's been rockin' my crowning glory for years. This is a salon for real women (and the guys are welcome too). Sometimes I enjoy a cup of tea or a glass of wine while getting my mane beautified. And there are other special perks like Q-tips in the bathroom to remove that lingering salon water :) The music matches the setting... relaxed yet hip. But you don't get the sense that they are trying too hard. Parking can be tricky (there is a small lot behind the building), I've never had to park more than a block away. Hair whisperer, indeed. I've been going to Erin for almost 3 years now, and time and again she makes my skinny, baby fine hair managable and beautiful! Her cuts are easy to style, look great even when I don't have time to, and grow out beautifully. She was the one who finally convinced me to go short again (after serveral disasterous attempts in my impressionable youth left me looking like a twelve year old) and had me loving it! She gives great product and care recommendations, and as an added bonus, she's a treat to talk to for an hour. The salon itself is lovely, modern and spacious, with a friendly helpful staff. I have yet to stry the other salon services, and while I don't color my hair, my sister does and loves the job they do here. read more

I'm in natural-nail, natural-looking french manicure heaven. I haven't had a manicure in about 6 years, after going to one-too-many salons and paying $30 for something that didn't look as good as what I could do at home. I like my nails a particular length, a particular amount of white showing, a particular shape, and please don't hurt my cuticles, thank you very much. I realized that my easily chipped homemade manicures probably wouldn't cut it for my upcoming wedding week, so I decided to seek professional help. I scheduled an appointment and prepared myself for disappointment. Inevitably, I would end up with nails too short, too round, or too...SOMETHING. I could not have been more wrong, or more pleased with my manicure. A week later, my nails are still beautiful and chip free. The lady wasn't lying when she said she could do a shellac french manicure polish that could last for weeks, even if I decided to continue to play adventure sports and otherwise not baby my nails. And she was right! It was a tad expensive ($45) but my nails do look worlds better for it. I will be back... and I will definitely not be waiting 6 years to do so. read more

One of my favorite people just graduated from the esthetic program at Gary Manuel Aveda Institute (Congrats Xochil!) and is now working at Cristy Carner so I thought this would be an excellent opportunity to check it out! My first impression, upon walking in, was that this place is much bigger inside than it appeared! After checking in, I was brought back to the spa waiting area (nice and airy, very relaxing) to hang out for a moment before my 60 min massage began. In no time, Xochil retrieved me and brought me back to a beautifully appointed (and also huge!) room where I gave her a quick run down of what I needed, "Eh... I'm a little tight in the back but overall, the full body massage would be great." and then climbed onto the table. Once she started, it took just 5 short minutes to discover that my back and shoulders were a complete mess so we quickly changed strategies and focused mostly on that. Now, I wouldn't say that I have a lot of experience with different masseuses but my exposure is definitely growing in recent years as my lifestyle increasingly impacts my poor bod. For me, the important things are that the masseuse is able to sense what I need and just go with it. Xochil's definitely got a strong sixth sense in this area and I swear I had an out of body experience while she was working out the kinks in my neck and shoulders. ...again! By the time she was done, I was soooo relaxed and though my back isn't quite where it needs to be (it's gonna take much more than 60 min to get there) there was definitely marked improvement and I was standing tall again. But wait, it's not over! After that, I took advantage of a deal she had on an Express Pedicure (my S.O. is ALWAYS almost in tears when she looks at my feet) and headed in to the pedicure area. Again, a very nice and relaxing environment. Comfy leather chairs to sink into as I sipped my ice water and tried to come back to reality after the massage. Here again, Xochil did a wonderful job and quickly turned by incredibly scary talons into supple, smooth-feeling, human feet again. I can't wait to go back and do the longer version next time! ...uh, any suggestions for color from anyone out there? Anyhow, to wrap up, Cristy Carner Salon has some really great spa services, a nice atmosphere, and you truly owe it to yourself to come down and book an appointment with their newest member, Xochil. I've been a fan of this place for over 5 years! I started with a cut and have worked into color, waxing, & facials. Anjanette - she's blonde and therefore knows how to wield a wicked blonde foil. I always get compliments after she works her magic, but never the 'oh, did you color your hair?'...more of the 'wow, your hair looks great.' Erika - She is the first person to give me consistently good cuts, yet knows how to mix it up so I don't get bored. She is terrific! Tiffany - OSSM!!!! great facials, waxing, and all-round great therapist :) unfortunately she just left but I've heard good things about Amy. The front desk staff is courteous and efficient, especially since they seem to have gotten a new computer system. Nice wine in the afternoon. A few parking places in back. i love cristy carner's salon. I go for the best and cheapest back facials in town. Amy, the aesthetician who does this work is really proficient & professional. i have gone twice and each back facial treatment has been wonderful. the salon itself is located just a couple blocks from the heart of fremont, making street parking just a little easier. they do have a back parking lot, but they only have 4 or so spaces, making street parking a better guarntee. they offer the normal tea/water amenties with a great little back spa waiting room. they also have great bathrooms, nice robes/slippers for you to wear during your wait, great rooms for your facial treatments & a really courteous staff. I have a girl i go to already for my hair, but, anytime i want to have my back throughly cleansed, masked & massaged, i book myself an appointment at cristy's. at 35 dollars for an hour service, it is well worth every penny. read more

Went here off of some yelp reviews- haven't had my hair cut in a long time and it was looking bad. Erin cut my hair- and while i thought i gave enough direction on what i was looking for- she cut my hair quite different than what i wanted. She was super sweet to talk to, and very personable. Seemed to know what she was doing, but i ended up being unhappy with my hair the day after. I would have said something then but she blew out my hair and i couldn't tell what it actually looked like (i always leave my hair air-dried). I am hesitant to give a bad review though- i don't know if this was my fault or not. read more

Cristy did updos for myself and my 4 bridesmaids for my wedding. She opened her salon early to align with our timeline for the day and worked with all my bridesmaids to design up dos that worked with their hair types and desired look. I also did a hair trial in advance which was incredibly helpful in determining that my hair was too long for my desired updo and gave me time to have it cut in advance. Came to Sydney via a friend after a very frustrating botched (orange!) color job. Sydney has done wonders foiling me back to a color I enjoy and looks natural with my skin tones and natural grow out. LOVE that she writes down what she does so I don't have to love it one time not really like it the next. Been coming here a year now and intend to keep coming. Sydney is professional, friendly, adaptable. listens to what you are looking for and helps you achieve it while guiding you with her expertise and she is an artist with hair color. May 2013 Mistakenly let a friend of a friend put in a few highlights after Sydney had me lulled into thinking great color is easy to achieve. Will I ever learn? Had to go immediately back to Sydney to fix my "calico kitty" hair-do (the bleach ran). She fixed me up well and did so very graciously while making sure we took good care of the health of my hair. I have good, thick hair, and plenty of it; I asked for something short and shaggy and she gave me this unflattering, lifeless, strangely-shaped cut that looks terrible, even weeks after. i chose this place because it was a local place and it was a full service day spa!! Tiffany was awesome for facials and waxing!! I have to give her kudos about waxing since I wax often and Tiffany knows what she is doing- and it did not hurt! I forgot the manicurist name :-( - The manicure and pedicure was very nice!! I enjoyed talking with her and nibbling on her candy and nuts!! She does have a very interesting picture on the wall- definitely an ice breaker ;-) Anjanette- was cool! I have been seeing Amy for facial's at the Cristy Carner salon for some time. I will admit to a few bikini and brow wax's that were awesome too. I love that Amy is knowledgable and calming. Even my husband notices how great my face looks after coming home from seeing Amy, and that is saying something! When I need a deep clean I go for the spa facial, but for monthly touch ups I do the maintenance facial, which is faster and cheaper. I still get a great facial without the frills and it fits easier into my budget. I recommend Amy often to friends. read more

I can't say enough good things about my massage with Cicely. People talk about how massage therapists either really get in there and give a muscular massage that feels like you've been worked over afterwards, or that the person massaging has a nurturing touch, and you feel pampered and comforted: somehow, this woman has figured out to to put the best of both into her touch. She has a warm and open energy and infectious positivity that puts me at ease, and her massage feels both wise and educated. She's really just amazing. Plus, Cristy Carner Salon is just a really nice space! It feels clean and bright; warm and inviting, with enough luxury and artistry to make the massage feel like a treat, but stops short of being over the top or snobbish. I've been seeing Anjanette for almost 10 years and absolutely LOVE her! I started going to this salon because I lived close by but immediately fell in love with the salon itself as well as the way she did my hair. The salon is super relaxing and I get a glass of wine while I get my hair done compliments of the house. Anjanette continually does trainings and is always up to date on coloring and technique. My all time favorite salon that I've been to. Once you walk in the door they offer you a drink (beer, wine, tea, coffee, soda, water, etc) and a change of top. Plus the environment in the salon is creative, engaging, and hip. I have been going to Kate for my hair for about 2-3 years now. She always makes me feel hot and relaxed when I walk out of there. The scalp massages with my feet up are great and much needed. She does a great job with my hair and I always trust her to "change my style." Amy also does the best eyebrows. I'm actually thinking about doing more waxing. :) The prices at this salon are very affordable and worth it. I've referred several of my friends here and they keep going back. read more
