The caker, pancakes hiding eggs and bacon!!
    Cin C.

I have a soft spot for neighborhood diners like Hazel's. It is a slowly dying breed, and I am happy to support one whenever I find one! Large portions of breakfast in a friendly atmosphere, which is always a perfect way to start any weekend. I had 'The Caker', which is egg, cheese and bacon wrapped in a pancake. It was one BIG pancake. The combination of sweet and savory was right up my alley, and I happily wolfed down half of it before I couldn't eat anymore. Be prepared for a wait, as there are few tables and plenty of hungry patrons!

Eggs Benedict with caviar on pancakes

Went to this place randomly, our waitress is super friendly , we had good conversations, her name is Tammy, one of the best waitress in my opinion made us feel very comfortable and welcoming, if people come here make sure she is your waitress the best, I ordered the eggs Natasha which is eggs Benedict with smoked salmon, hollandaise sauce, on the bottom is pancake and topped with black caviar, this is a whole different level, the hollandaise sauce is phenomenal and the caviar gives a unique texture to the pallet, toasted bread beautiful, I hope this place doesn't close because they make you feel like family very outgoing and friendly staff

It appears that there's not too many breakfast joints that open up early close to us, so we ventured to North York for some early morning grub. Hazel's is a typical diner with old, dated mismatched furniture with a friendly and efficient hostess/waitress that keeps your coffee cup constantly topped off (diner quality drip coffee). Here's where it breaks the mold: a bold and creative menu that pairs different flavors that you wouldn't expect. THE BEST example was my Eggs Natasha with poached eggs, smoked salmon, on top of pancakes, covered in hollandaise, a dollop of sour cream and topped with a little bit of caviar. Oh my! I ordered this because the description peaked my interest. I was surprised and delighted that the flavors complimented each other so well: salty, sweet and savoury. I thoroughly enjoyed the pancake underneath that was light, fluffy and delicious. It came with a side of home fries that tasted decent but were too soft and missing the crispy edges that I like. Hubby ordered the Hazel Hash: 3 eggs, potato, corn, ground chourico, onions, (bell) peppers, jalapeño served with a side of buttered Texas toast. It was alright, not very spicy at all with a pool of orange grease at the bottom of the plate. They do need to clean up a bit with it's coffee stained menus and a few fruit flies buzzing about. Whoever renovated the wash rooms (looks newer) needs to redecorate the main dining area with some modern furnishings and splashes of color. Would come back if I'm up for an early breakfast.

    TPA benny...

I'm so torn in giving this review. I wanted to love this place, especially with how cute it looks and the raving yelp reviews. The meal started off great. The place was packed and our waitress was running around but still attentive. She recommended the TPA Benny to me over the Natasha. Naturally, i went with the recommendation and expected an eggs Benedict with tomato, potato, arugala and asparagus (atypical ingredients for an eggs benedict but hey, I was interested). What I got was a really weird salad to put it nicely. It was a layer of arugula, then 4 slices of tomato, a ring of crispy potato, 5 stalks of really chewy asparagus, and then two poached eggs with hollandaise. The asparagus was so bad I had to spit it out. The hollaindaise was too eggy. But mostly it was just such a weird dish. Maybe if I ordered something different I would've had a different impression of this place but honestly I was very disappointed.

    Waiting for a table

This restaurant is known as "Best of 2016". Don't know why it happens to me all the time. Again! Line up at the door at 11:40 am. Waited for about 30 minutes and then I finally got a table for two. My husband and I ordered beverages first. I ordered a glass of grapefruit juice and my husband ordered a cup of coffee. Yes! It's nothing special about these beverages. But the grapefruit juice is freshly squeezed and it tasted sweet. $5 for a glass of freshly squeezed grapefruit juice, what a deal! The cream that goes with my husband's coffee is also freshly made. It's not from a package as normally seen in other restaurants and it's smooth. So far, everything is fresh! We also ordered an Egg Natasha to share. There were two small slices of pancake as the bases, then smoked salmon slices on top of the pancakes, followed by two poached eggs with hollandaise sauce and black claviers. Home fries should come on the side but we substituted it with poutine, $2 extra. Also, we ordered smoked beans on the side. Overall, the dish was pretty good. One of the poached eggs was a bit overcooked. Perhaps I was a bit demanding, I was expecting yolk overflowing in liquid form when I sliced on the egg. The other one was perfect though. Other than that, the egg Natasha was good. I could taste honey in the beans and it was great. Poutine was good except the gravy was a bit salty to my taste.

Eggs Florentine with a Rosti (hard poached eggs)

Have been driving by this place many times and decided to check it out for brunch. It was packed, but my pal and I were able to snag a booth. Hazel's is a super clean greasy spoon with menu items perfect for a weekend brunch. Service was excellent; coffee, tea, and water refills came often. Pricing is average, it's definitely not a cheap eat, but you're also not spending a fortune eating here. I had the Eggs Florentine with a Rosti ($2 extra) and a tea ($3 extra) - my bill came to $16. Food was pretty good - then again, I love eggs - can eat at any meal of the day. Good for: breakfast, brunch

Initial impression: no one acknowledged us for a a good 5 minutes before we were seated. One server passed us multiple times and nothing. When we were finally seated, another server was very nice and pleasant and took our order (she later asks us how our meal is during our meal which was nice) The first server disappointingly plops our plates on the table. Didn't ask who's was who and literally just plops it down and leaves. That just left a bad taste in my mouth and although the food was good, I was not happy about this particular server. Anyways, I don't think I will come back here due to poor service. But food otherwise was decent.

The staff are very friendly and helpful and the restaurant was packed with customers enjoying their food and drinks. They have a full bar offering great options for cocktails, liquor, wine and beer. We tried two of their specials: Sultans Special and Hazelnut White; both tasted great. Every table is offered complimentary freshly baked pit with cold appetizers (hummus, butter and feta cheese). We also ordered Mix Cold Mezze Plate (Beet Mutabbal, Turkish Baba Ganoush, Fatteh). The appetizers wefresh and delicious. For main, we ordered "Fillet Carnival Kebab" and "Saffron Shrimp Kebab". Both veal and chi ken fillets were perfectly marinated and charcoal grilled. The saffron had added a great taste to the grilled shrimp, too. If you're visiting over the weekend, I'd recommend making reservations in advance to guarantee your table.

There are lamb, beef, chicken, wings, some sort of beef 'pastry' (forgot the name). The best is the lamb, least is beef (nth special, I guess). All is tender, but some are juicier than others (NOT dry, but better if it's juicier). The mashed eggplant that comes with it is great to pair with any of the meat. Ordered sutlac for dessert (light and not too sweet). Highly recommended!
