We've gotten to-go a few times now, usually with some kind of roll, the chicken katsu, and most recently the sashimi. My husband gets chicken katsu at different Japanese spots, and he puts Hazumi's katsu in the top 20%. He only wishes they included some katsu sauce to balance the flavors. The 9 piece assorted sashimi was a great value for the quality of fish! The salmon was the perfect level of fattiness. The Fuji and Lodi rolls were packed with different fish and textures. I think I prefer the Fuji for the little spicy kick, but I tend to wipe off some of the sauces so I can taste the fish itself more. The miso soup is a nice add on, but doesn't stand out on its own. Definitely a place we keep on a short list when we're looking for a bite. read more

What a disappointment for a full service Japanese restaurant. the three of us ordered two bento boxes and a separate dinner roll. My bento box of Saba and Sashimi was pathetic . The sashimi portion was puny. The fish was the size of postage stamps, the saba was also small in size but okay. You had to pay extra for miso soup, usually a freeee with bento. My friends were craving oyster shooters after a day at the river. It was my first time having it, and needless to say they were really delicious. I am now a huge fan and came back a few times for more especially in the summertime. This place is ordinary not too fancy with chill vibes with exceptional food. I have to say that I wasn't impressed by this place. I do have high sushi standards, but I don't think they're that unreasonable haha. We came in the evening just for some rolls. My parents recently moved to Granite Bay, so we wanted to find out new "go to" sushi spots. My fiancé and I ordered 4 rolls. They were each pretty small and I probably couldn't even have told you which was which- they were very similar looking. The fish was fine, and the taste was okay, but it just didn't wow me. It was pretty plain and just meh. At least the fish wasn't gross. I was a bit turned off by the gross smell when we walked in and I'm super sensitive to smells, so that may have been the first thing for me that was unappealing. I'm pleased with the package that makes Hazumi Sushi Bar. With the tip by another Yelper, location behind Dutch Bros, it was easy to find. Temperature inside was a bit on the cooler side and most peoples had on their jackets. Thankfully no one cared I walked in smelling like and looking like I mud wrestled with a horse. I also had on a baseball cap and thankfully no one minded. In fact, another patron was wearing a baseball cap. The restroom is a bit dated and worn (floor, lighting, walls) but had a couple of neat sinks and while the soap dispenser was stingy, the plumbing worked well. I'm really not sure why I'm compelled to share this - probably because the dingy feeling stood out, unlike the rest of the restaurant. Well, except the unloved freshwater fish tank in the lobby. The rest of the restaurant is kept up and modern and clean. The fish was fresh and reasonably priced. I was impressed with the octopus - cooked beautifully. Absolutely delicious. Normal pricing of $4.50. The sushi A combo came with 5 pcs nigiri and 8 pcs California rolls. Fairly priced at $15. Also, good selection and pricing on alcohol. See photos. I really enjoyed that the sushi A combo came with miso, steamed rice, tiny cucumber salad and a deliciously dressed simple green/iceberg salad. I drank that dressing like an elixir. Something like a vinegarette. The service was completely great. I was checked on regularly and with knowledgeable and friendly service. Btw, the plastic wrapped towellette is for you hands. lol. Just place it on the counter/table when you're done. In fact, the service was so great that I received my food pronto! Took maybe 5-7 minutes from when I ordered til when I received it. This is the best remaining restaurant (of any type) in Granite Bay. Service is excellent, restaurant is clean, reasonable, and great food. Truth-be-told, I don't eat raw fish or meat - it's a proclivity of my midwest upbringing. We would catch fish off the dock in the backyard and cook it 5 minutes later- you can't get more fresh than that, and only animals eat it raw - so I skip that part about the Japanese experience. Went here for a date night, the servers weren't too happy and didn't crack a smile. There was no greeting when we walked in by servers or chefs. That's okay - but it made the ambiance kinda awkward. The restaurant was mostly empty except for about 3 tables in the front. I ordered the sea steak- expecting some seared maguro dressed with ponzu/chili oil/sesame oil. But instead it was pretty bad because it was topped with 5 spice or star of anise? So it was oddly sweet - and definitely had no place on sushi. Everything else was mediocre, honestly the best thing was the edamame. It was all around disappointing and definitely not worth $80. Just drive a little farther and go to aloha sushi. read more

My husband and I live in Southern California and were up here staying at an AirBnB for our wedding and had Hazumi the day after the wedding. This place is delicious! I forget the rolls we got but remember the Popper. I wish I was able to taste the jalapeño more, thinking it was just cut too small, but definitely got the spice of it and the flavor of the roll was fantastic! Ordered takeout: sushi combo B (8 pieces of nigiri and dragon roll); chicken teriyaki and california roll bento and tempura udon. The quality of the fish was poor -- dry and fishy. We ended up not eating most of fish. The chicken teriyaki was not grilled and was dry. The california roll and salad were fine. As for the tempura udon, the tempura vegetables were good but the shrimp was not. The texture was dry and we ended up not eating it. The udon was ok but the soup was bland. Being 9 months pregnant and absolutely famished after a long day, I was excited for a good meal. However, the food we received in our to-go order left much to be desired. Upon opening up my bento, I was disappointed to find three of the TINIEST chunks of salmon making up my "salmon teriyaki entree." The depressing tempura side order came with one sad looking, wilted onion tempura, two of the world's tiniest shrimp tempuras (that I suspect might not have been properly deveined), and another stingy portion of tempura squash(?). Overall, the meal felt overpriced, underwhelming, and left me raiding the freezer for a palette-cleansing scoop of ice cream. Tl;Dr: Would not recommend. read more
