Hasu is my favorite small business. Their staff is so consistent and so kind. They truly serve their customers with the utmost care in such a beautiful clean store front. The food is amazing and is always prepared with care. I get their teriyaki bowls to go with steamed veggies and I'll occasionally get nigiri on the side But I've tried almost every roll on their menu and I always come back for more 10/10 one of the best small businesses in Folsom. read more

Unfortunately, the experience got off to a rough start. When we walked in, there were several open tables, but no one greeted us or explained whether we should seat ourselves or wait to be seated. A female employee saw us but didn't provide any direction, so we picked a table ourselves. After waiting for a bit with no acknowledgment, I had to get up and grab menus on my own. We spent about eight minutes deciding what to order (never easy with kids), but still no one came by. After another several minutes, I finally walked the few feet to the register and asked, "Are we supposed to order here or at the table?" The response was simply, "Yes, order here." After placing my order, I was immediately prompted to add a tip before receiving any service, which is something I personally find frustrating. Then I grabbed our cups to fill our drinks myself, only to find the ice machine was out of ice. At that point, it felt like we were striking out on every opportunity for a good first impression. It appears there's only one employee handling both the register and the dining area, which may explain some of the confusion. If that's the system, it would really help to have a sign letting customers know to seat themselves and order at the counter. There are only about seven tables inside, but without any guidance, the dining experience is confusing for first-time visitors. Once the food arrived, it was presented nicely. I ordered the Rainbow Roll and Dragon Roll, and visually they looked great. Unfortunately, I found the flavors to be underwhelming. The sushi was very mild, and even the wasabi had almost no heat. I added far more wasabi than I normally would, yet it barely had any kick. For someone who really enjoys sushi, the overall flavor just didn't stand out. The kids' non-raw rolls were also just average. To her credit, the employee did check on us twice after the food arrived, and she was friendly. I think she recognized that I was frustrated after spending roughly 15 minutes in the restaurant without any acknowledgment or explanation of how ordering worked. Overall, the experience wasn't terrible, but it wasn't one that makes me eager to return. Between the confusing service, lackluster first impression, and sushi that was simply average, I'd probably look elsewhere next time. read more

Price reasonable, hole in the wall place. Well advertised place on Yelp but probably not the must go to place for future sushi as there is more to try out. The tempura had good temperature, okay ish flavor with the sauce but was pretty soggy/doughy instead of crispy. The Dragon Roll tastes decent and had some unique flavors. read more

The Lotus and Folsom roll was so good. I actually ordered from here by an accident but was pleasantly surprised. Those two rolls tasted so good! I ordered the fire fire roll and that one was just okay.The prices also were pretty reasonable. I never thought to eat here because it looked kind of generic but I live close by but happy I ordered from here by an accident. Best sushi i have ever had and have in multiple cities and states outside of CA. The tempura sauce had a flavor that is not the norm you will receive at other locations. Situated in a typical strip mall and with only about ten tables in a narrow layout, the atmosphere is nothing to be excited about. With that said, though, this is one of our favorite take-out places in our area. We don't go for ambience. That's not to say there is anything wrong with the space... It is very clean and pleasant. However it's a very narrow space with about ten tables, so it's "cozy". Locals frequent it. More often than not, when we eat there we see someone we know in line. Yes.... This little gem (which someone might call a "hole in the wall") the bottom line is that it serves good food at reasonable prices. The food is consistently fresh and delicious and service is always friendly and efficient. You order at the counter and then are served. They carry the usual basic mainstream Japanese food options; but they also have quite the variety of sushi rolls to pick from. I so appreciate having so many delicious and healthy options. And I dare say that their rolls rival many of the fancier places in our area.... Yes, the grilled chicken choices can be a tad dry but the accompanying sauce comes to the rescue. Deep fried options there never disappoint most in my family either. But, it's the rolls that are the definite top choices, in my opinion. I love giving local businesses such as this a big thumbs up! All the food we had was delicious. As far as I could tell, there is just one sashimi choice, and it includes salmon, hamachi, and tuna. It all tasted great. The place had a bit of a fast food adjacent vibe. There's no sushi bar to sit at, just tables. You order at the register and they bring it to your table, but otherwise there's not really waitstaff. There aren't that many tables and they're packed in kind of tight. I would eat here again, but it probably wouldn't be my first choice either for menu variety or for in person ambiance. read more

This spot has a great and rare balance between price and quality, and I can think of very few negatives to say about it. I'm always looking for the next sushi spot and I'm glad I found this one and will be returning to try out some of their other rolls. Good staff and a calm quiet atmosphere. The rainbow roll had plenty of flavor and a good size to satisfy your appetite, and not very expensive compared to other sushi spots. The fish and other ingredients tasted fresh, which is the most important thing for me. The bento box was also a great size for the price, definitely a good value here. I found the chicken wasn't too dry and had a nice amount of char. The salad had a good dressing, and complemented the rice and chicken nicely. The only minor complaint I have is about the teriyaki sauce, which tasted only average based on what I've had before, mainly due to it being overly sweet. I personally really enjoyed this place. My friends on the other hand felt it was a 3/5 stars, hence, I average it to 4/5 stars. The chicken teriyaki salad was not only delicious, but the portion was HUGE. This can easily feed 3-4 people. They give a generous amount of chicken. The teriyaki sauce was enough to give the salad a good seasoning , but not too much where its thick and overbearing. The sushi was good in my opinion. We got a variety. My favorite was the sunrise roll and fire fire. Their lion king roll was bot bad, but it lacked some flavor and depth that other place's Lion King rolls typically had. I'm not sure exactly what's missing, but I would say definitely 1-2 ingredients are missing. My friend who got the sashimi dish said the tuna was good, but the other fish sashimis were not fresh or good quality fish. Oh and he said, "the wasabi is not real wasabi. It's like store-bought ones." The seaweed salad was worth getting in my opinion. It was a nice refreshing dish on a hot summer day in Folsom. Plus, it's healthy, so why not?!?! read more

Upon walking in, we were greeted by a younger gentleman who was so sweet and friendly . We both appreciated how they accept Apple Pay ! My friend ordered the sesame chicken. I've been checking out different sushi/Japanese restaurants in Folsom since moving from Korea. My palate changed quite a bit and I've been looking for lighter and cleaner taste. I like the casual atmosphere of Hasu and the menu had a diverse offering but also simple and not overwhelming. I had the Sunrise roll and tempura shrimp. It was refreshing, delicious and light, not greasy. It satisfied my cravings and East Asian palate. You can taste the quality and freshness. The pricing was fair and the woman who rang me up was very friendly and welcoming. I like that I can order and sit whoever I want, and I felt comfortable eating there alone. The staff is extremely friendly. They usually have their young daughter or son by the front counter saying hi. Their food is extremely fresh and delicious. I tried it over a year ago and had the same experience. Why does their beef bento taste like that?.... I had no choice but to order from here because my friend was closest to it. Never again. If I can't eat the beef without sauce because of how bad it is, something isn't right. People have been complaining for years about it how bad their teriyaki is, and it hasn't gotten better. We've visited this place many, many times since moving to the area three years ago. It's by far our favorite sushi restaurant in the Sacramento area, and we've visited a lot of sushi restaurants! Not at all overpriced, and amazing quality food. Since the first time we've visited, the service, food, and cleanliness of the restaurant have all been excellent (we're very picky with these things). If you come here I definitely recommend at least trying their Lion King Roll and sashimi platter with sushi rice :) You won't regret it! read more

I've been coming here for a couple of years now and I've never been dissatisfied, not even once. The consistency is commendable. I meant to post years ago...but selfishly I didn't want the world to know how INCREDIBLE this establishment is; I couldn't hide it, this place speaks for itself and gets BUSY on/near holidays, call ahead to place your order and give them an hour, you can't rush perfection and perfection is what you'll get. It's a smaller place and can get really cramped on busy days but in slower days/times, it's such a nice and clean place to eat at. Folsom residents (and nearby) know exactly what this place has to offer, INCREDIBLE FOOD. This brings me to the staff, they have always been so kind, warm, and welcoming. I've seen employees come and go (I do miss the mother, daughter, father, son team) but even the new team is amazing. I am greeted with friendly smiles and hellos every single time. One time I placed an order over the phone during a storm, when I got there the power was out, they could not charge my debit/credit card and I did not have cash on me; they told me not to worry about it and just pay on the next visit, which I did. I will never forget that. Amazing people, amazing food and a true GEM in Folsom. If they are closed I refuse to eat sushi anywhere else, I'm serious. But sushi rolls are falling apart and because of that I will give 3 stars nothing less nothing more, please make some improvements on sushi rolls. I will visit again but for only chicken Teriyaki. Difficult to judge from just a single experience, but .... 3* for the food -- definitely ok, but nothing special. We shared a takeout order of Udon Soup (Veggi), and a Thai Chicken Bento Box. The Udon Soup was tasty. I thought it was a bit on the sweet side, but DH did not. We both loved the Udon noodles. Nothing special really in the way of veggies; I wish they could throw in something more interesting, like broccoli, mushrooms, snowpeas, etc. There were 2 fried Inari squares, 2 Kamaboko slices, and then small strips of veggies such as carrots, celery, cabbage, etc. The Thai Chicken Bento Box came with a very large heap of delicious chicken strips (looked like mostly or all white meat), mixed with a sweet and spicy sauce (but not deserving of the 2* spiciness that shows on the menu). Also a large scoop of rice ($1 extra for Brown), a small serving of lettuce with dressing on the side, and about half a dozen steamed broccoli heads. Service (very friendly) and price (not as cheap as they used to be, based on the other menus posted here, but still very reasonably priced) bump my rating up to 4*. They currently are offering 3 kinds of Ramen (see my photo) that looked appealing, but I haven't tried it yet. They said they're considering making it permanent, but they don't yet know if they will.
