Stopped here to get evaluated after feeling unwell. I went on a Sunday in late morning, and there were only two other parties in the waiting area when I arrived. The check-in and registration process was all via QR code and cellphone, which at first I wasn't sure about, but I actually think that makes things a little easier. The wait itself wasn't too long. Perhaps 30 minutes or so. After that, I was seen by a nurse or technician to take my vitals, etc., and then went to an exam room to wait another 5-10 minutes for the doctor to see me. The evaluation was professional and friendly. The doctor (Dr. Landin) shared some thoughts about causes and treatments, and ultimately prescribed something for me. Overall, I recommend this location. On my visit, the facility was clean and tidy, and the staff were all polite and friendly. I received quick, effective care. I would go back again if needed. read more

Why is the music in the exam rooms to loud? I'd asked to turn it down which they did only to turn on a sound machine as loud as it would go. When you are sick the last thing you want to hear is a bunch of noise. There is a female Dr there that is so rude. I've seen her three times already and every time it's the same story. I can't remember her name (I'll add it when I do recall it) but she is Indian. She has zero beside manners. I've never once seen her smile or ask me how I was doing, she just starts doing the exam based on the triage paperwork she was given. She did not want to give me antibiotics for a severe and painful strep infection I had so I went to a different clinic and they gladly gave me the prescription. I am not sure why this lady is in healthcare when she has no desire to actually help people feel better. The worst urgent care I've ever been to within three states. Entered to blaring music like a bar. Could barely hear the two front desk staff. Asked if they could turn it down because my child I was sick with a headache. One staff member was confused, the other wouldn't even acknowledge me. The waiting room was empty and no one ever came out but it was a long wait. One elderly came in and went right back outside. The staff were unprofessional. No confidence in the medical staff. After a chest x-ray, was told there was a spot on my child's lung but we didn't need to worry about it because it was probably just something on my child's shirt and the machine picked up. Did a strep test but Dr didn't think to send it to the lab to confirm so he had to do it again. I do not know about the other locations for this company but my family will never go to this one again. Welcome to COVID central. ZERO social distancing inside. I mean it was PACKED in there. Sure, they take your temp at the front door...with a NORMAL thermometer that is NOT sanitized between use. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!!!! So, I think I broke my foot again (little stress fracture I hope) and I went online and made an appt to go in. Once I arrive, I have over a one hour wait. When I inquired why I wasn't taken at my appt time, I was told that making an appointment doesn't actually hold your spot, it just helps you submit your paperwork in advance. Please note, there are signs in the lobby stating "Hold your spot online" so I'm not really buying it. Further, while I was waiting for an hour, the xray machine tech showed up to do maintenance. This meant, once I was finally called back, I had to wait even longer since the machine was down. THEN, once I get back there to xray, find out they "can't" do weight bearing xrays which is what I need (and they knew that from my intake telling them non weight bearing wouldn't do the trick) and they still had me wait. I mean, I was in there for over 2 hours to be told, here's a referral since we can't see anything. Also, here's some medication. I get that they may not be able to provide the service, but you knew that when I got there. I was CRYSTAL clear about the type of xray I needed. I just don't understand the complete lack of thought here. My provider, Kate, was very nice and professional I just wish it didn't take me over an hour to get back there. read more

I understand that this business has recently changed hands. The exam room was dirty. I had no Covid symptoms but was immediately given a Covid test which incorrectly came back positive (again not a clean place), the nurse was unkind and impatient. Due to the false positive (rapid) test I was sent home to isolate with Covid without asking any other medical questions. I went to a different facility the following day and had the quick NAAT version of the PCR test and was negative. My family went through so much anguish thinking for 24 hours I had Covid and they might too. Not only did I not receive even basic medical care, no one listened, no one cared about my health and welfare, and I heard them talking about me or another patient in the room outside of mine. I've been to this clinic several times over the years. I was even using them as a GP, at the invitation of one of the Drs. Haven't needed to see them in a couple years. Had a few issues recently and wanted a general check up. Called and left a message, no returned call in three weeks. Finally booked an appointment day and TIME online. Preregistered online. Got two confirmations "See you at 1:00pm" Get there 10 mins early and the line is out the door. Finally get inside and the lobby is full. Receptionists are uninterested in being there and definitely aren't hospitable people. A far cry from the kind and caring people who used to greet you two years ago. These two girls gave short answers, little eye contact. "What are you here for?" For the entire lobby to hear...no privacy! "We don't take that insurance." Again, everyone in the lobby heard them. I self payed and waited. At 1:45 I asked how much longer. I was told "We don't take appointments, it's first come first served." I explained the appointment time I had selected on the app and I was told "We don't know why they do that, you don't have an appointment." I asked for a refund, they said OK. I asked for a printed receipt for the refund, and the eye rolling commenced. It was like they didn't want to help anyone! The place was dirty and disgusting. The one nurse I saw through the door was unkept and her HealthFirst shirt was nasty looking. I wouldn't bring my dog to this third world dump of a 'clinic'! read more

They have a caring and professional staff that will take care of you well in your time of need. You'll have to excuse the lack of reviews lately. I've been fighting an infection for a while and whatever they gave me at Roper Hospital was trash. My feelings were hurt. There is no reason to leave a hospital still sick, but that's for another review. Went to HealthFirst because the bacterial infection was alive and well. I was skeptical going in because I haven't had the best medical treatment during my time in Charleston, but the reviews were okay. The waiting area isn't much to look at and the chairs aren't too comfy, but the staff is nice and welcoming. As soon as you enter, "Hello! We'll be right with you!" And it's true! In 15 minutes, I was called back. Your vitals are taken around the front desk, so if you're self-conscious about your high blood pressure or weight, this might not be good for you. Although, you won't care if you're sick enough and they're discreet about things. Nadia took my vitals. Very sweet to me. Could obviously tell I wasn't feeling too hot. The rooms are small, but have everything you'd need. The only thing I didn't care for was the music playing in the room. Found out the reason for that was because of HIPAA; the walls are so thin that you can hear other conversations. Don't want anyone's privacy violated. They at least turn off the music when they come into the room to assess you. The nurses who took my blood pressure, strep, and mono tests were very nice to me. The doctor was extremely nice. EXTREMELY. He wrote prescriptions for all sorts of antibiotics and some blood pressure meds that I really needed. First time in a long time that I left a clinic feeling like I was heard and my feelings were taken into account. They actually listened! They take all types of insurance, but if you're self pay, you can get the basics for just under $100 which isn't bad at all. There's also a Harris Teeter within walking distance if you need to get your prescriptions filled. I hope I never see the people at HealthFirst again.. but mainly because I don't want to continue being sick in Charleston... but if I am, they'll be my first and only choice. Thank you! read more

I was visiting Charleston for work during the Wine + Food festival and had an accident that required stitches. I was far from home and afraid, but went to Health First for help. Jen, the PA there was one of the kindest and most efficient medical professionals I've ever encountered. She took care of me like a friend would have. It almost makes me cry thinking about it. After she put in the stitches, I got back to my hotel and tried to snip what looked like a small end of the stitch. It wound up unraveling the whole thing. So, I had to go back to Jen to have it done all over again. I'll never forget her kindness and how much she helped me on a day when I needed it most. I would give negative stars if it were possible. The doctor I saw was horribly insensitive. I'm a Type 1 Diabetic and was sick, which makes my blood sugars higher than normal. She asked me why my blood sugars had been high, which I informed her was partially due to being sick and partially because of the high costs of my insulins- I had been having to 'ration' my insulin. I have good insurance and even with that, my insulin costs my roughly $600 per month. It costs to stay alive as a Diabetic. It's a problem that almost every Diabetic in this country is aware of and reminded of on a daily basis. Doctors working in any form of public healthcare know this is a problem. Instead of being met with compassion or understanding, this asshole of a doctor said "Shame on you" when I told her I had to ration my insulin. I was horrified. I felt like telling her "until you've walked in a Diabetic's shoes in this day and age, when it costs more to pay for your medications than your rent, do NOT judge me." How DARE a doctor say something like this to someone seeking help. I left this place in tears and can't even drive past the building without getting angry. I don't like medical visits whatsoever, but I wanted to get tested for COVID before visiting my elderly parents. This place was very streamlined, allowing me to register, submit my medical info, and reserve a slot of time online all without making any phone calls. Once there there was a slight wait, but the place wasn't crowded. The techs were nice and Dr Anderson was very friendly and down to earth which helped with my anxiety. I can't speak for everyone, but I had a positive experience and would recommend for COVID testing. read more

I used to love heath first. I recommended it to EVERYONE. Now it's under new management and the prices have gone up. Self pay is now 125 dollars when it was 99. I HAVE INSURANCE and it's blue cross blue shield. They tried to get me to give them 100 dollars for my co pay when it's never over 25 ever. They said that they were under new management. Now they charge 100 dollars and refund the money thats left over after the insurance company pays them. That is ridiculous not to mention 25 dollars more and I'm basically self pay. I pay a lot of money for good insurance so I can get seen when I need to. I ended up at musc I had the flu. I will never recommend them again. read more

I have spoke to billing and the retards at health first and they keep blaming each other, it is pretty frustrating. I will start by saying that I understand doctor's offices are extremely busy right now with covid-19, as well as the labs they send their tests too. However you cannot get in touch with a single person at their facility to save your life. They do not respond to emails, voicemails or phone calls. You can get in touch with billing though or pay $27 for your medical records. Absolutely no communication with patients is unacceptable. Any type of response or update would have been considerate. Customer service doesn't exist. The doctor and nurse I saw were both very kind and considerate but the front desk receptionist was very short and snippy with anyone who asked her a simple question like how or where do I check-in. read more

The nursing staff/front desk is very kind and remembers me every time I'm in! 10/10 The doctors, however, are lacking big time. I've seen several of the different doctors there and have come to the conclusion that Dr. Anderson is the only competent doctor in the building (and the only doctor that actually cares about who he is treating) If you get into a room and have anyone other than Dr. Anderson then you're better off just leaving. If I ever consider going back, I'll be sure to call prior to see who's the available doctor. Also, they've increased their rates in the last year for initial visits (it was ~$95 a visit and now its $125-$200+) Follow up visits are now $65...even if they look at your cut for 2 seconds and say "yep! The treatment I tried didn't work. Come back again tomorrow (so we can charge you a second $65) :)" read more

Chelsea in the West Ashley office helped EVERYONE and was the absolute nicest person to work with. She seemed to know everything in the office- everyone's go to for questions and answers. She also called me once I got home and told me she accidentally overcharged me and she made the change over the phone, saved me money, and immediately emailed me the new receipt.
