I think you can infer from these reviews that HDK offers one of the most reasonably priced contractor in the area. However, you can also infer how poor Hans is in managing his projects. I chose HDK based on their pricing but the 4 day project got extended to 14 days including some of the weekends they tried to make up for. I found out from one of his crews that aside from other projects, he is also busy traveling. Just imagine what will happen to your project if he gets a bigger one and he'll be out of town for some time. Based on my experience, Hans is a nice guy in terms of cost and quality of work. What he lacks is professionalism in communication and skills in project management. His work is guaranteed, but he hires questionable laborers who should have no business handling saws and hammers when left on their own because their boss is busy on another project. We had Hans and crew do work on the house we are moving into this weekend. They did: -plumbing (installing toilet, finding and removing a shampoo cap that was plugging a drain under the house, getting the valves in the shower working again, installing new faucet in the kitchen, fixing the horrible leaks in the kitchen sink, etc.) -carpentry (building a cabinet to put a dishwasher in since the house had never had one before, cutting/adjusting the cabinets in the kitchen to make room for a microwave and a taller fridge) -electrical for dishwasher -miscellaneous (putting up gutters and downspouts, getting the gate closed that was not installed correctly by the original people, fixing all the cabinet doors that were hanging off in the kitchen, patching the mess of a wall under the kitchen sink and making all the valves accessible, hooking up the washer/dryer) There were three guys there for a full day, plus two guys for about five hours the next day. They seemed to be working hard from the time they got there until they left. Given how many workers there were and what they accomplished, their rates seemed reasonable. The thing that stood out to me the most about this company is that they fixed a couple of little things at no charge (e.g. putting new washers in outdoor spigots to reduce leaking). In fact, the door frame to our sliding door was not attached properly to the wall and could easily have been broken into. I never showed it to Hans, but I noticed that they fixed that as well. Nobody even mentioned to us that they had done it, which surprised me. I had felt a little unsafe about that door, so it meant a lot that they just did that for us. Also, Hans gave us advice about how to deal with other issues we want to tackle ourselves (removing rust from the fences, etc.) and he seemed interested in making his customers happy. Because we were happy with his work, we not only recommend Hans and his crew, but we are hiring them again next week to help us install appliances and do a few more projects. read more

I just bought a new house and needed some work done. I called this company to get an estimate for the work. Hans and I agreed on a day. Unfortunately, just like one of the prior reviewers, HE STOOD ME UP without even calling or texting to let me know he wasn't coming. Instead, he texts me the NEXT day saying he "got busy". What an insult!!! Apparently, he was too busy to call. And, he was too busy to text. As an attorney and business owner, I know a thing or two about being busy. Yet, I have never stood up a client. I saw HDK Construction on Yelp and decided to give them a call last minute after reading other yelpers' reviews. I needed to get a couple of things done in our house, such as toilet bowl replacements, door installations, and plumbing work. Hans gave me a very reasonable price. Not only did he complete the job on time but also in such high quality. I can tell that he really cares about his customer and he takes care of the house as it's his own which I appreciate the most. In addition to getting the things that we agreed upon done, he also fixed a couple of other things, such as the sprinkler and timer, for no extra charge. I had recently purchased my first home, which of course needed some TLC. Hans has a wide array of knowledge on just about anything you might need done inside, or outside, of your home. I had my kitchen completely remodeled (with cabinets he completely installed), baseboards and crown molding added, toilets replaced, along with cement added to my driveway area. He is straightforward and gets the job done efficiently. I get so many comments on how beautiful my home turned out and would definitely recommend him to anyone. I hired Hans to install fascia board for the front of my house and garage where some protruding wood was removed due to dry rot. He came right on time to give me a price and explained very thoroughly what was needed. I also had him replace the window surrounds and doors to a work shed. All of the work was excellent and I am now having someone else put rain gutters on the fascia board. That person mentioned that the fascia board was installed in such a way that the rain gutters will work better due to the front angle that was employed on the fascia board. A couple of weeks later, I had the floor replaced under my gazebo which is a raised floor. Hans was actually able to replace the floor without removing the gazebo. I watched as the work was done and could not believe it could be accomplished, considering the gazebo is 25 years old and quite fragile. He explained what I needed to do to the gazebo to ensure i could keep it for a few more years without replacing it. I have since done that work and am thankful that he did not suggest I have a new gazebo installed. I always appreciate any trades person that does not suggest I do some extra work just to give themselves an extra job.
