I had a new washer and dryer delivered today. When hooked up, the people did a trial run. The drain pipe promptly backed up and overflowed. The delivery team cleaned up but had to stop installation. I called Mike as they were leaving. He arrived in 20 minutes and proceeded to figure out what was wrong and which pipe. He then routed the clogged pipe, found and removed the roots, and tested the washer. I have a new functioning washing machine thanks to Mike. He saved the day. Our kitchen sink has been slow to drain for several months. My husband who is decently skilled at simple plumbing issues took off the P-trap which was fine but the horizontal pipe had some jelly-like rust colored material in it which he cleaned out. However, that didn't solve the problem. So an hour or so ago I called Mike at He-Man Plumbing and he was here in about 10 minutes even though there was no rush for us. He has recently helped a neighbor in a similar situation and we had him help us once as well with a different plumbing problem so I was happy to have him come out. He quickly assessed the issue and asked us several questions. We have a clean out for the kitchen sink on the outside wall opposite the sink. The cap needed to be sawn off as it hadn't been opened in decades and had many coats of pain on it. That was done neatly despite it being behind a large bush. Mike needed to put the "rooter" into the pipe several times hitting what was most likely hard calcium carbonate build up in the pipe. His instructions to us as to how we could help, filing the sink and emptying it to check the water flow, were very clear and he was great explaining to us what he was doing and what he thought caused the sink draining slowly. He was wonderful with me, a female, answering all my questions in a thoughtful, kind manner. And to top it all off his fee was more than reasonable. Very Honest. Called him about sewage overflow in front yard. Was told by another company it would cost $10,000 to repair and clean out pipe and camera etc. Called Mike and he told me OVER THE PHONE based on the location of the pipe that city of Palo Alto should clean out for free...and they did it for free!! This business owner called me back at about 8:03 am, to tell me not to leave a message! Then he called me back at 8:09, yelled at me, told me I was rude and he wouldn't do our job because of me. Okay, whatever. I don't know how anyone expects to stay in business treating female customers so poorly. And honestly, the owner gives me the creeps and sets off all kinds of alarms in my head. Mike knows his work and solved my problems super fast! I called with water hammering sounds, shower with water coming out in bursts and an outdoor leak. Mike called back within the hour even though I know his schedule is always full. He asked a few insightful questions and then addressed my concerns point for point politely and concisely. Turns out first 2 issues only need monitoring. And what I thought was a serious leak was due to a spout from newly installed HVAC system. He described over the phone the spout exactly as it appeared without seeing it, so we both could determine it was actually pure water from released condensation. Thank goodness Mike knew what it was. Just as he said when I called end of the day yesterday, he was able to come out first thing this morning and smoothly fix our blocked up kitchen sink! It was down the line - had not had a problem as long as I can remember, but must have been slowly building sludge in the waste line. So he brought the snake in and did a most thorough job, till the sink was running better than in years! Also more than a hundred dollars less than the plumber I had called first, who didn't even see the job, but just has a standard price for kitchen sinks. As I have no garbage disposal nor dishwasher hook-up, my sink is a bit easier. Except for the shelf in the way of the elbow trap! He had to use his shop vac to remove the standing water first, to save my wood cabinet from getting wet, which he did carefully. Great work! Thanks! read more

All it takes is a disaster to happen when you least expect it. Things started backing up and so we called our plumber to fix it. It turned out to be more than he expected and so he couldn't fix it. He did, however, tell us about Mike Riley, a plumbing drain expert. He was able to figure out what was wrong but it was not something that was his expertise. However, he then called two other plumbers to see if they could come and fix a break in the main line (what a mess in the crawl space). We found someone to come and fix the break. We could not have had this fixed as fast by reliable plumbers if it had not been for Mike. We thank him for all his help and advice! read more

Sewer line was blocked and caused my downstairs toilet to overflow. Yuck! Called Mike and he showed up within a short time and went to work. He didn't just clear the blockage but figured out how the line went in a very methodical way and found the cleanout right in front which was buried under soil and I didn't know about. Snaked the line and cleared and told me what to do so if there's a blockage next time, the problem shows up outside and not in the house. And all this for a very reasonable price. I've had really good luck finding service people on Yelp, and this is another great recommendation from the community. I just called Mike this morning, he was available to come out within like 45 minutes, and now less than 90 minutes later -total- problem solved (problem being the kitchen drain stopped working and my DIY efforts to snake it out had no effect). Mike specializes in these drain cleanout type service jobs instead of big plumbing jobs. He's a little bit older (ie more experienced) and I think he's found his sweet spot of what he wants to do and what he doesnt. He was professional and courteous and efficient, offered his opinion on where the plug may have been (40 feet down the pipe, way beyond the reach of a pitiful OSH snake), and the condition of our pipes. It's cool hearing a skilled craftsman make a diagnosis from what he feels through the operation of the drain snake (and years of experience) He was so efficient he even had time to address a second smaller problem with our shower drain grate. On the one hand, I never love having to call a plumber, on the other hand the next time something's not working right, I know who I will call. read more
