The worst dye job I've ever gotten. I was recommended to come here and I couldn't be more disappointed. I came in to get my roots done( i'm a brunette with blonde hair) and was very specific that I was platinum and that I pull gold so they have to know what they are doing with dye and toner. Got two haircuts by an associate and one from the owner. Associate haircut was choppy all over the place, went back and the owner was surprised, taking video to show the associate. She did a little cleanup. Went back for a cut with the owner. Cut was so-so not lasting a full 6wks, but what was really bad is that she missed the whole left side of my head! I came here for a wedding updo, and was so pleased with how it turned out! My hair is difficult to deal with, super fine but LOTS of it. It can't just get pinned up and sprayed. My stylist took the time to ask me questions about what I wanted, looked at the photos I brought, and made adjustments as we went along based on my feedback. The final product was a gorgeous intricate low knot with a little volume on top using my natural part. It stayed perfect all through the ceremony and through most of the party after! I've been a client of Headlines for the past 8 years. I've used their hair services. but stopped after my stylist left. Yet, I still return for their great waxing services. Shannon began doing my eyebrows in the very beginning, and her work is phenomenal. She has perfect precision with the wax and tweezers, and always gives me a great shape. She listens well to what I want, and she translates it in her work. I highly recommend visiting Shannon. Unfortunately I didn't specify which stylist I wanted last time I made an appointment, so I was put with Cheryl. Although Cheryl is very nice, she does not do as good a job as Shannon does. She also tends to market other spa services while she is waxing you, which I find annoying when I am trying to relax as hair is being ripped from my face. As someone else noted, the spa services tend to be a bit overpriced. Headlines is not a Newbury St. spa by any means, but the prices seem to reflect that essence of prestige. read more

I went in to Headlines on a walk-in basis for a waxing service because Bellezza was booked for a couple of days. Although my aesthetician was very nice and professional, I found Headlines to be overpriced. The same service cost less, not only across the street at the nicer spa Bellezza, but also at the many spas I frequent in Boston. The AC wasn't working to boot. Headlines has the feel of your neighborhood salon - no extra service, no offer for water or coffee, just quick, efficient service and perhaps an exchange of neighborhood gossip - nothing more, nothing less. If you are looking for a day of pampering, head across the street. If you are looking for a quick (albeit overpriced) walk-in appointment, Headlines should hit the spot. read more

I had my wedding in June 2012 and cannot believe what an amazing job Audra did on my hair! I had a beach wedding so I wanted it down and wavy but was of course concerned it would blow all over. She made me hair look like waves of the ocean and it stayed looking beautiful all day. I can't wait for the pictures to come from the photographer so I can send them a pic with a thank you note. I also had my make-up done by the cutest girl but I can't remember her name. =( I got compliments all day about how amazing she made my eyes look. My wife and I have great results at this Salon during the summer months at our cottage. We typically try to get our favorite statitionon Cheryl. She's friendly, humorous, and does my eyebrows perfectly for a guy. She does more with my wife but I only use her for eyebrow waxing which she does a great on both men and women. I find hard to get a place that can do men's eyebrow waxing properly i.e. not too thin or shapley as women prefer. My wife says she likes the waxing, mani & pedi's she gets from Cheryl because know i'd hear about it if she didn't. My wife is real picky with her nails she's always seems to find one that is crooked or too square. She doesn't seem to have that problem here so I can enjoy my summer in peace down beautiful Cape Cod. read more

Usually I love this place but recently I had my hair done and decided to get bangs.... the girl (Ally) cut my hair and said ok, how's that? and I said "what about the bangs?" ( which I had mentioned before she washed my hair!) and she looked at me like I had two heads! Then she proceeded to cut bangs like she had never cut bangs before! I was in town from Indianapolis for a family wedding. My sister in law booked the appointment for me for 10:30am. I don't know where to start. It was the worst salon experience I've ever had. They were 20 minutes late taking me. My stylist Gloria was very unorganized as was the whole salon. I showed her a pic of the hairstyle I wanted. I had already washed my hair at home and it was still wet so all she needed to do was blow dry and curl it. I was poked in the eye 3 times with the round brush. I'm surprised I didn't have scratches but it's definitely still sore. I was poked in the head with the silver clips she used to hold the curl and I was almost burned 3 times with the curling iron since she dropped it multiple times. My hair looked ridiculous. One side had a few curls and the other side a wave. I just wanted to get out of there. I didn't know if I wanted to cry or scream. It cost me $65 and I ended up going home and washing my hair again and doing it myself. My husband was livid when he picked me up and wanted to go in and demand a refund. I just wanted to GO HOME. Absolutely horrible experience. read more

I just got home from Headlines and I have that happy warm feeling you get from feeling that you look good, and you've just spent time with a lot of great women who are invested in your happiness. Some salons have that gossipy mean girl feel to them. Barb has worked hard to make sure she has highly skilled, professional people who won't turn the salon into a drama filled arena. Back to my hair. I love it. I get a lot of compliments and am always being asked who cuts my hair. I was surprised to see the negative comments here on Yelp. After a second look, I noticed they were from 2008 and 2009. Too bad. I'm surprised there weren't any more recent reviews, and that is why I felt compelled to write. Over the years I've watched happy brides, happy prom girls, happy little girls, and happy busy working moms come in and out of Headlines. My bridesmaids and I got our hair and makeup done here for my August 2015 wedding. Pros: They are organized & clean, beautiful salon, well staffed, and are used to accommodating wedding parties. Makeup services were great. Bridesmaids hair came out good and stayed in all night. Cons: Audra couldn't do most of the hairstyles I wanted to try during the trial and I was made to feel like I was high-maintenance, when really nothing that was done looked like the pictures I gave. I didn't know if I wanted it down, half-up, or an updo, but any of the down styles we tried looked awful. So I finally decided on a big, low bun that I liked that she could do. She seemed annoyed when I asked her to spray it more that day (I know my hair), and was assured it "wouldn't budge." Unfortunately it fell out an hour into my reception and my bridesmaids were helping me fix it all night. The makeup services were good, but they did have issues with timing. Audra assured me we would be done by 1:00 (I had to fight to make the first appointments earlier) and by 1:00 2 of my bridesmaids weren't seen yet and they were taking other clients in between- not to mention a bridal trial as well! I felt like we were in the way towards the end of the appointment as my mom went searching for people to do the girls' hair and makeup so we wouldn't be hours late for pictures. In the end we had to leave 1 girl there by herself so the rest could get ready and we were an hour and a half behind schedule. I've been in a bunch of weddings and I understand that many salons run late and I expected it, but I didn't expect them to start taking other makeup clients during our appointments while I was paying for a photographer to sit at my house. I give it 3 stars because my friends' hair came out well and everyone's makeup looked great. If I had to do it all over though I would not book this salon mainly because of the treatment we received. read more

I loved it here!!! I have had really bad experiences in the past with another salon. The past two times I have gotten my hair done, the stylist didn't listen to me and ignored what I asked for. Which made me feel terrible when I was paying $150! This is the first time I haven't hated my haircut after leaving the salon!! I had April and she was so concise in making sure she was doing exactly what I wanted. I took about 7-8 inches off my hair which I was super nervous about and it turned out PERFECT! I've been getting Brazilian waxes done on-and-off for about a year now - and because I travel so much, I've never been to the same place twice. After reading some good reviews, and finding decent prices (Starting at $65), my search for a waxing service in Falmouth lead me to Headlines. Cheryl was amazing. Best wax I've ever had. She was quick, efficient, and made me as comfortable as possible (even providing paper undies so I wasn't spread-eagle on the table). Immediately after I finished my appointment I scheduled my next one. My only complaint about the salon was that when I called to make an appointment, the women who answered was a little short with me because I was trying to get in on a Thursday a 1/2 hour before closing. She really listened to what I wanted and made me feel comfortable that she could give me what I was looking for. I went to Headlines to get my hair done for my wedding. I booked a consultation for a few weeks before my wedding to ensure the person doing my hair would know exactly what to do on the day of. when booking the consultation they tried to get me to have my make-up done there but I informed them i had a bridesmaid who was a make-up artist and she was going to be doing my make-up. The day of the consultation I was very happy with the results and the hairstylist even took pictures to make sure she would not forget how to do my hair. I paid the $65 for the consultation excited for the day of my wedding. I booked appointments for both my mother and myself and again they tried to get me to have my make-up done there but I reminded them I had that taken care of. The day of my wedding I received a phone call ONLY one hour before my appointment informing me that the hairstylist I had my consultation with was out sick. Of course panic set in and I was told someone else was going to be doing my hair but I asked if she knew what i wanted and they told me to bring the picture i had brought during my consultation. I was staying in a hotel the night before and did not have the picture so they told me not to worry. I made sure to mention that I had made it a point to have a consultation with the person doing my hair and now she wasnt even doing it, so i wasted my money and time for nothing! The lady came back at me with well you dont want her to come in and cough all over you and get you sick do you? I went in and got my hair done. They offered to do my make-up for free and I had to remind them I already had that taken care of (if they couldn't tell for the foundation I already had on my face) My mother was suppose to get her hair done at the same time as me but 45 minutes in she was still not getting her hair done. I got my hair done and for the situation I was faced with I was happy with what I got but it was nothing like my consultation. I had to put my veil over the top of the hairstyle when it was suppose to go underneath it like i had told the new hairstylist at the start. I went to go pay and I again made it a point to state that I had a consultation but nothing I paid for came through on this day. They still charged me $100 for my updo.To make matters worse my hairstyle kept coming undone the whole night. Nice look but poor quality. As well as horrible compensation!! read more
