This place is amazing! If you are looking to go blonde or even if you just want a great haircut, definitely ask for Taylor. She gave such a great cut and balayage. It was a definitely more expensive than I'm used to paying for my hair, but the cut I got was better than I ever could have imagined. It was totally worth every penny, and I can't wait to go back in a couple of months. I'm also someone who is SUPER careful about COVID. Getting a haircut was pretty out of my comfort zone since I don't eat out or see friends right now, but this place felt really safe. They have plastic dividers up between every station, and all of the workers were wearing masks correctly. They even wiped down the waiting chairs between people! If you're worried about COVID, definitely book an appointment for right when they open. My appointment was at 10am and it started to get a little busy around 1pm so I was glad I was out of there by 2pm. read more

I decided to give Headlines a try. I made an appointment with the front desk for a roots color touch up and they told me because I was a new client I would have to give them a $100 deposit. I agreed, and I was not happy to find out they charged my credit card right then. Most other salons will charge you if you are a no-show or do not give them 24 hours notice. I came in for my appointment and the stylist asked me a lot of questions about how my roots were touched up in the past and what type of product they used. I thought that a little odd. I've been getting color for over 30 years and usually don't get asked that many questions. She then told me that she wanted to add toner to the service and it would be an extra $136.00. I told her that I did not want the toner. She said they she would not be "comfortable" coloring my hair the way I wanted it. I was between a rock and a hard place because I was leaving the next day for a trip and there was no way I would be able to get an appointment anywhere else that day. So I told her to do it. She spent a long time doing the two separate processes and must have run out of time because when it was time to blow dry my hair she passed me off to an assistant. The assistant also did not follow my direction re-how I wanted my hair blow dried. Overall, I was there over three hours and it was a negative experience and at the end the service cost $198 when it should have been around $100. If you are looking for a salon that is customer focused and listens to their clients, don't choose Headlines. The entire experience was negative and I don't recommend this Salon. read more

I moved to Carlsbad 3 years ago and needed to find an experienced hairdresser/stylist. Alex W. @artisticblondes is a very detail oriented, kind and extremely talented artist. She blended my blonde perfectly and even showed me a way to get the most time in between color. My roots never look like they are growing out due to her techniques. I recently had a row of hand tied extensions put in by her and they look and feel amazing. Pricing is on the higher end, however you get what you pay for. This salon offers complimentary beverages and you even get a scalp massage after shampooing. I've never had one complaint in 3 years, and everywhere I go, people ask me who does my hair. I am very upset and could not be more disappointed that I did not even receive an apology or phone call. My hair stylist, Gina, booked me for a haircut May 3, 2022 at 9:30 AM and I received both an email and sms reminder and confirmation, to which I replied. Upon arrival, I learn that Gina is unavailable because she double booked and chose the female client over me (due to cost I assume) when she tried to hand me off to a different hair stylist, having already known my concern that I do not just choose anyone and I am very particular for whom I work with. I could not have felt more insulted due to a blatant lack of respect, and at the very least, should have received an apology. I will never be back as they do not value generously tipping male customers because our hair cuts do not cost near the amount of a color and a cut. read more

This is my first time here. I decided to pick this place because they have a very high rating on Yelp, and it seemed like the place where the stylist will be honest especially if a hairstyle or look will not look good on you. It was a it hard to find because of the construction going on and maps wasn't helpful either in finding them, but it's not their fault though. The construction going on is. When I entered, I was automatically greeted by the front desk, super nice and friendly. The places was clean and looked brand new too. If it wasn't for the convid restrictions, I bet the place probably would have looked even more amazing! Hannah was my stylist, and I love her. She was a honest and helped me figure out what would work because I wanted a change from my normally long, LONG hair. I was a bit reluctant too, but she helped me pick one that would work. When it came to the actual hair cut, (I'm not sure if this is the correct usage of the word, but) she was detail-orientated, making sure it looking even, and balanced. She also recommended a few hair products for me since my hair was pretty damaged (which is one of the reason why I went from long to short). My hair feels great, but it is a bit to get use to since it's been forever since I've had short hair, I love it though! I'll be seeming her again next week (I believe) for some color. PSA for anyone wanting bangs. I've been really debating posting this review because I have been a long time client but I will not be coming back after my last visit. I'm not going to say the name of my stylist but I am so disappointed in my bangs. I asked for Dakota Johnson bangs (I will attach photo of what I wanted.) and the bangs I got are just horrible and it will be a long & awkward phase to grow them out. I have had bangs for years and never had anyone cut them like this before. I thought they were gonna look good after she cut them but after a few days, I have my final verdict. I went in for a haircut with Leeann, she did my hair and it was not at all what I asked. I requested she fixed it and add layers, then she did very short and unprofessional layers (not finished) and sent me home with that. I didn't want to be mean so I thought I checked my hair again at home, I paid and even left a good tip. Once home I realized how bad my hair looked. I am now trying to find a good professional to fix it. I sent them an email about it and completed the review they sent. They never answered my email or try to fix the mistake. Emerging from the pandemic, I had a badly grown out balayage (I naturally have black hair) and not so pleasant results from trimming my own hair - but Courtney Elizabeth did an amazing job at making me feel and look human again. I was a bit nervous since I have Asian hair and coloring it lighter/balayage can be a challenge but she took the time to ask me questions and assess my hair, then methodically explained her process, which being in the science field, I really appreciated! I've had my hair done with two different stylists because of schedules and they work together to ensure I get the same quality no matter who I am with. I wish there was a rating less than 1 star. Just received the worst haircut of my life. Stylist was Emily (M). It is not repairable and I need to let it grow out for several months before I can have it corrected. M is a 21 year old who I was told was excellent with short hair and color. I was very specific about what color I wanted and what the cut needed to be. After 4+ hours, I came out with the totally wrong color and a cut which is irreparable. I also got several scissor nick cuts on the right side of my face. She knew she was doing such a bad job that she did not even let me face the mirror. A very meticulously run high end salon that offers haircuts, color, styling, skin care, makeup and eyebrow shaping. The salon has been in its present location for 7 years, and in the same strip mall for 30 additional years; I mention the years because we may assume that anyplace that has been around that long must be getting something right. I have to say that if we didn't have experience with having our hair cut by some very top stylists we'd probably have given Headlines 5 stars, but really whether it is a 4 or 5 star experience depends on which stylist you get at Headlines, and whether that stylist is best suited for your type of hair and desired cut. At Headlines the price you pay depends on the extent of experience your stylist has, in terms of years working at the salon, and over all expertise. All the stylists are employees, not merely renting a chair. The range for men's haircuts is $50 - $70 and for women's $65 - $105 Of course color highlights etc. are extra. She had hers cut by Brooklyn ($95. + tip), who is on of the upper tier stylists, and me by Zach ($50. + tip), who is about in the middle in terms of years on the job and skills. Both did an excellent job and made us feel pampered. (We did have a $20. off coupon for each cut, and also used a $100. gift card to pay most of the bill, which came with a free up to $35. item.) In all, over the years, if you haven't found the perfect stylist for what you want done with your hair yet, you might just find it here at Headlines. If not, it wouldn't necessarily be because of a shortcoming at Headlines, just might mean that you need to keep searching until you find the perfect match with your type of hair, and desired cut. read more

After my stylist left I was a little bit worried about going to someone else because she really understood my hair, and my hair is one of the aspects of me I don't know as much about as I would like - so I was anxious I wouldn't be able to find somebody else who would "get it." cue GiGi! Not only does she know what she is talking about (she talks science, she GETS hair, she knows how to cut, she knows how to blonde you so good - which is the color I prefer), she knows how to explain the science to you and make it make sense) but she also is so down to earth, humble, funny; shes REAL. When you go in for a cut and color, realistically you need to be prepared to spend at least 3 hours in the chair with another person working hard on your hair! GiGi made my 5 hours so relaxing, enjoyable; I basically left feeling like I left an awesome day with my girlfriend. She stood on her feet all day, worked so damn hard, but never once did I feel she was tired, stressed, etc. She loves what she does, and it shows. Essentially - my hair looks phenomenal, my color is killer, she introduced me to so many great products, and she's an all around good person. RUN to GiGi for your color ASAP!
