She told me that Rebecca just received a cancellation and could get me in on Friday morning. To say I was stunned is an understatement. From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed. Once in Rebecca's chair, I could tell she "got me". She listened to my ideas, looked at the photos I brought in and chatted with me about her thoughts. Then she got straight to work. She was easy to talk to, we had a few laughs and she gave an AMAZING head massage. Once she started cutting my hair, I knew she knew her stuff. What really stings is the contrast: Andrea made sure to tell me she couldn't take me in October because of her "celebrity" client, yet she couldn't even extend the basic courtesy of canceling or notifying me. It left me feeling like, if you're not a celebrity, your time and business just don't matter to her. I don't care about discounts -- I care about professionalism and respect. The rest of the appointment felt rushed, and she took shortcuts throughout the manicure. The quality of the work was poor, but by that point I was so frustrated that I just wanted the appointment to be over. What really stood out was how differently she treated the next customer. She was suddenly warm, friendly, smiling, and offering additional services after that customer agreed to upgrade. It made me feel like I was only worth good service if I spent more money. Overall, the atmosphere was unprofessional, the customer service was unfriendly, and the manicure was disappointing. I would not recommend this salon and definitely will not be returning.

I ended up finding Dylan through a friend who just got her extensions done with him. Best decision! Loved how effortless he made the process feel. No pressure. Just someone who gets it. I also loved that the extensions are exclusive and not processed! The finish is so natural, it feels like my hair, just more of it! They've held up so beautifully-- 3 months later & still soft, blended, and style like new. I didn't think hair could change the way I feel in my day-to-day this much, but it really has. I am so glad I found Nikki!! She takes the time to understand what you want and also takes into consideration what your hair might NEED! She keeps in mind the integrity of my hair (as a blonde who can't be blonde enough ) she is always finding ways to give me what I want but also take care of my hair too. We recently started doing k tip extensions and she absolutely crushes it. She puts them in methodically, matches the hair perfectly and I always leave feeling like a million bucks. I showed her my color combination from my therapist back east and she said she uses a different line of color but she would try her best. After the color she did my trim and did a blow dry. She said she was not happy with the color and asked if it was ok with me to go back another day. She didn't charge me for the color and I went back and she fixed the color. I highly recommend Sheri.y

Unfortunately, I was very disappointed in both the customer service and the final result. First, scheduling was a nightmare. The last three times I tried to book, my stylist was unavailable the day of due to internal errors and turnover. Second, I paid specifically for the owner this most recent time, yet most of the work was done by assistants (teenagers and college students). To make matters worse, the salon was unbearably hot- no AC while sitting in foils for hours- I've literally NEVER experienced this at a professional salon. After three hours, my formerly brown hair looked nothing like the reference photo (lighter blonde). They offered to redo it -again with an assistant- but still charged for additional highlights, bringing my total to over $500 (despite being quoted $200-$300 with no notice about the price difference until I was checking out). What made me decide to write this review, however, was an off-putting comment from the owner. After a young girl came in with her father for a quote, the owner laughed about how expensive it would be because she "had dark thick Mexican hair." The assumption, tone, and laughter were unprofessional at best and offensive at worst. I ended up going to Headlines to have my hair corrected and had a fantastic experience there. Based on everything above, I would not recommend this salon. I honestly don't think these stylists know how to style or color dark, thick hair like mine (respectfully) :/

I've only been here for color so can't speak to anything else, but thought the quality was fine as usual if not quite as good of a deal as it once was. Staff is friendly but not always up to speed on some nuts and bolts - for example, how to check the balance on a gift card and apply it to one's bill. Hoping Roxo can iron out these kinks in training!

Most of the time I have no idea what I want when I come in and she knows exactly how to walk through the different options and comes up with the best ideas not only for that appointment but also for the next several visits. She's cut, colored, and styled my hair. I've also been to a curling workshop taught by her and learned A LOT. She also styled my friend's hair for her wedding and it was gorgeous and lasted the entire night. I can't say enough great things about Ashley and her salon. Everyone who works there is wonderful and helpful. It's always a great experience.

Solara is located on the middle level of the Del Mar Plaza - with an attached parking garage so there's no need to fight for street parking. Bonus - parking is validated at the salon. My husband actually started seeing Tracy for his haircuts before I came in, and he had glowing reviews. Soon after, I made my first appointment and there was no turning back. Tracy took the time to really understand what I was looking for and my overall goals for my hair and hair care routine. One of the most important steps which is often overlooked by stylists is letting the client know if their expectations are realistic, healthy for your hair and the maintenance in keeping up your preferred style - Tracy didn't skip a beat and I knew from the jump what my upkeep needed to be. We have since built a relationship where she just knows what I'm looking for and I trust that my hair is going to look amazing. And it's the perfect blonde! Looking to make a change and find a new stylist / salon - I can't recommend Tracy and the ladies at Solara Salon enough! You'll walk out feeling like a million bucks!

I got a cut…read moreand color from Katee and while the color was fine (though not much different than what I started with), I am very unhappy with the cut. I have long hair and always get a subtle cut with long layers which I emphasized to her prior to any cut being done. Truly not a crazy or difficult request. I told her that my hair needs to be long enough to all fit into a ponytail or top knot bun and she said yes definitely. Thinking back now she never asked me how short I wanted the layers to be at their shortest, which every stylist has always asked in the past. Regardless, the subtle haircut I wanted ended up as more of a chop with a weird section of blunt short layers in the front that look truly awful. They do not blend well and are too short to stay in a ponytail when pulled back. I gave it a couple weeks to see if things would even out after the freshness of the cut wore off, but it still looks just as bad and I'm devastated knowing it'll take so long for these pieces to grow back. She told me that she guarantees her work but she can't make my hair grow back and I'm not trying to cut more.. I expected more from a senior stylist with senior stylist level prices. $420 later for a cut I'm unhappy with and color that looks about the same as before. And minus another $18 for parking because she did not validate my card correctly I guess and I had to pay. The vibe of the salon is fine, the people who work there seem to be nice, but I would not recommend this stylist. One other issue I had was that I booked for a cut and partial balayage to stick within a budget I was comfortable with. Katee ended up doing a full balayage and charging me accordingly (appropriately so)- but the issue is that before rendering the service she did not ask for approval (or even tell me) that she was going to do full instead which lacked professional transparency in the context of such an expensive service. Note: the photos emphasize the cut but the color is not true to life due to the indoor lighting where I took the pics.
