Most of my drag wig collection is from here. Their selection and quality is great. But what keeps me coming back is the customer service. The girls on the floor are always willing to help out with costume ideas and offer advice on wig care. They always have patience with me and my neuroticness when it comes to my hair. Most recently, I bought my first lacefront wig. The employee offered to takeout the braids and trim the lace back for me. The best part of this place is that if they know you are doing drag they give you a discount, because they know that if you keep coming back you are sure to tell a few friends ;-) I hope they stay open forever! read more

I decided to visit Heads & Threads solely based on the Yelp reviews. I was excited and asked a friend to come with me to do some serious wig shopping. There was not a single customer in the store when we walked in. There were two male employees and one female employee. Not one of them greeted us or even looked our way when we entered the store and walked to the back - not one! We were in the store for about 15 minutes and not one asked if we needed help. When we asked the female employee a couple of questions, we received a terse reply with still no offer to help. So we decided to leave and spend our money where our business was wanted. The service & help was great. The only problem is i got 100% human hair extensions (keratin bond) & they were deff not 100% bc after washing them 1x and air dryed them they were frizzy & dry. I had to brush them 20/30xs a day & they quality of the hair was s**t. They felt more like hay after a few washes. I would just got to a pro to get individual extensions. Amazing. I had a fancy shmancy wedding and was scheduled to have my hair did at Studio 110 in the GC -- side note: that place is the worst. I don't have a problem good money for good products, nor am I frugal in any way. But studio 110 wanted like $450 for the hair extensions. Then another $200 to put them in, simply because they knew I was a bride. It was more offensive than anything. So I find this little gem, and it was the best thing that ever happened. Mainly because the hair was beautiful and the staff was so helpful. They were so reasonable too. I ended up at Blowtique seeing Rhona. My hair was just beautiful. read more

After having multiple successful purchasing experiences, I was completely disturbed by the manner in which they handled a reasonable request for a refund. I purchased a high end pack of Bohyme Platinum ($100+) a pack. Within a week of it being in my hair it began to shed awfully and mat and tangle. After seeing my regular hair stylist and noticing the difficulty she had untangling it I decided to head back for a refund. The staff informed me that the manager was not available. They weren't apologetic to the circumstances and they turned me away without any solution to the problem. Even after explaining that I would handle the situation legally, the staff member shrugged her shoulders and told me there was nothing they could do. Very disappointed. I've been shopping at Heads & Threads Boutique for over 10 years, Best customer service. The owner is so pleasant and nice I just love this place. If your a Diva regardless if your looking for that JLo, and Beyonce inspired look or something more Chic this is the best beauty supply store in Chicago hands down. I heart this place. It is SO CHEAP and you get a totally decent wig for your buck. I have made two outstanding purchases there and plan to return for a drag look I am creating for Pride. It is blue line accessible and service is always great. Buy a cap to try on 3 wigs or buy a wig and the cap is free. I'm sure as long as you're buying they let you try on however many you want. This is my favorite wig shop. The owners and staff are always very helpful and I've always walked out with a great wig (or wigs!) at a decent price (est. $25 for a low-end wig and upwards of $150 for a real-hair wig). Fantastic selection and the ability to try on multiple wigs until you find the perfect one. Their policy is to charge 50 cents for three tries, but they are flexible as long as your intent is to buy. read more

The owner thinks because she's been there a long time that she can sell ratted god awful wigs and because ALL SALES FINAL she won't do anything about a wig that was purchased, never worn, and falling apart! What terrible service!!!!! The lady with black hair and glasses that was working ,(using the term loosely here ) was not helpful at all. It was my first time here and getting her to answer some of my basic questions was like pulling teeth. A simple "hello, is there anything I can help you with ?" goes a long way let me tell ya. I guess this is a self service establishment. I was there one hour before closing and there were 5 or 6 other people there .... anyway seemed like the only lady she was willing to help was this middle aged Hispanic lady who didn't speak english or didnt really want to . The selection was pretty nice and extensive . Stay away from some of the on sale ones on the rack. Felt like I needed to dip my hand in alcohol just from touching them. I did end up purchasing some stuff no thanks to that lady. I literally had to get the wigs from the higher shelves my damn self while she just watched me with attitude. I get it, its one hour before closing but the store closes at 7. Suck it up and do your job. If the sweet older gentleman wasn't busy ringing up customers at the front of the store I would have asked him for help. A tip for the owners, please hire people with a good work ethic and that want to be there. Your place is pretty great but poor customer service will definitely hinder your profits. read more

I was referred to this place by my hairdresser as she said that this is the only place that she gets her extensions from. I've never bought or worn hair extensions but am thinking about wearing them for my wedding. When I walked in I was greeted and told the woman that I was looking for clip in extensions (that's what my hairdresser told me to get). The sales associate was wonderful. She showed me several kinds of extensions and helped me color match. I told her that I was having my bridal hair trial next weekend and she told me that if my hairdresser said the extensions wouldn't work or if they were the wrong color, to bring them back with the receipt (obviously unworn) and they would exchange them for me. I had a really good experience here - they were nice, helpful, and reasonably priced. Highly recommend. read more

The absolute best wig shop in Chicago with the best customer service a person could imagine! I walked in needing a wig for a film shoot but I am completely inexperienced in this area. The woman who works there, Suzy, suggested my actor use hair extensions since he had short hair and was going to be wearing a bandana anyway. She said I could sew the extensions into the bandana to make it seem like he had long hair in the back. After seeing my petrified face, clearly having no idea how to do this or make it look good, Suzy offered to do it herself after she got off work. THAT NIGHT Suzy sent me pictures of her incredible work. I cannot speak more highly of this place or Suzy's commitment to customer service. If it weren't for her I would've had to do full rewrites on the script due to the change in hair. A million stars to Heads & Threads!!! read more

me & my grandmother walked across the street from wigs & plus, hoping this would be any better. they too, wouldn't allow us to use their restroom. they told us to go across the street. we asked them where they use their restroom, and they explained that it was not open to the public. the girl working there seemed to be unsure of what she was doing. the wigs are cheaper than across the street, but there is less selection. also we brought in a wig cap that we had just bought at the other place, and they still made us pay for a new one! so done with this place. read more

This place is absolute bullshit. You're only allowed to try on 3 wigs so if it doesn't work out, they expect you to go and come back another day to try anything else. They say they do this to stop people from just playing around, but it hurts actual customers that are there to shop. They either want business or don't, but they seem to only cater to the people that have been there for years and only want the same product over and over. Absolutely ridiculous. It's a shame because they have a great selection that's affordable, but what's the point if you're not allowed to find anything that works. I highly suggest going elsewhere if you're actually looking to try something new because they watch you to make sure you only try 3 wigs like you're going to steal something and basically make you feel like you have to get out. Staff is helpful only when you're purchasing or if you're buying a really expensive wig. Otherwise, don't expect any help. I had a picture and asked for help finding something like it and was told to look around. No one asked if I needed help with anything and asking got me nothing anyway. Saleswoman really can't be bothered to do anything, except get the package of hair you pick out if you can do it in 3 tries. Terrible customer service throughout both experiences. It's really uncomfortable to shop here knowing you have to get it right or you leave with nothing. I will not be coming back here again. read more

As a couple others have previously stated, the service was beyond great. It always has been. The girls, as always, extremely helpful and knowledgeable about their product(s). The reason i'm giving Heads & Threads ONE star, is because of the OWNERS. (Sorry not sorry) I have been with Heads & Threads for almost 8 years now. When I go in, I always get lashes and hair extensions at a discounted price (Thanks, Jessica!) As i'm sure many do, I drive a very long way to get here. When the husband is there, (which is often) the young ladies always have to remind him that he has my cosmetology license on file. It has happened numerous times where the husband over charges me when he CLEARLY sees that the pack of hair only has half the bundles. He also always fails to ask wether my card is credit or debit. He once ran it as credit (WITH THE WRONG AMOUNT) and thought it would be a smart idea to void the entire transaction, only to process it again (it was declined because I only had $350 in it). I walked out of there with no money and no hair, and he refused to work with me even though it was entirely HIS fault. I thought that was a bit ignorant of him to do especially since his english is hard to understand and he just wasn't understanding what I was saying. I was in there earlier this week and I literally couldn't even. As I was stacking up a couple of lashes for the month, I heard the man (owner) look through the paper as he furiously hawked a strong spit on his fingers to turn the page, then chewed his gum like I've never heard anyone chew their gum. It was unnecessarily loud and honestly disgusting. (I wouldn't waste my time writing this review if I didn't find it necessary to bring up) Just when I thought I've heard and seen it all, he proceeds to bagging my lashes up and touching the register with the same fingers that he had spit on just a couple seconds prior.
