I have a wig as a result of alopecia from breast cancer treatments. My wig needed a repair and my "go to" person was out of town. I found Linda at Salons Ink in Chicago. She agreed to help me fix my wig, wash and style it for a significantly lower cost than my usual "go to" person. The repair was perfect and my wig looked brand new and fresh again. After such a good experience with Linda, I decided to purchase another hand-tied lace front wig, but in a shorter length since my hair has begun growing back. She helped me pick one that addressed what I was looking for, and she dyed it and styled it in the colors I requested. I was looking for a clip in hair topper to add some volume to my thinning hair and chose Salons Ink since I had not purchased anything other than clip in extensions before. The shop location is a semi-non descript door currently next to an unrelated hair salon. Easy free parking out front or around the corner on a side street. On the day I arrived, we were going through a heat wave and unfortunately, the AC was not working at the shop and being repaired the next day. Although it was incredibly toasty inside, Linda made efforts to keep me as comfortable as possible using portable electric fans and ice water (even making sure to keep it filled with ice when it melted). A super nice and a wonderful lady, Linda answered all of my questions thoroughly and encouraged me to play with the topper. She showed me how to put it on and then had me practice putting it on as well. Because I purchased an in-stock version that day, she also gave me a few dollars off, which was appreciated. My only quibbles were: - The hair pieces are pricier than what you can find online (but you do get much better service!) - I would have liked to see more silk base options - Hair loss is already a sensitive topic and though this is a personal problem, I was a little bit embarrassed to have to go out front to color match my hair and look at the toppers in the mirror. Is there maybe a more private way to do this, perhaps right next to the glass door/window or via a back door (not sure if that's possible)? - They only accept cash or check. In summary: If you're new to buying a wig, topper, or extensions, this is a great place to go for detailed, one-on-one help where you don't feel rushed to get out the door. You might spend a little bit more than you'd like, but the service is unmatched. read more

Anyway, I came here last night for some wig help (I did make an appointment) and Linda was a delight. She helped with picking out a good color, style, human v. synthetic hair - pros and cons and was kind enough to help us even after the shop was closed for the day. She even offered us something to drink or snack on while we waited. In this day and age, NO one does that anymore so that was a pleasant surprise. Nice private salon, clean and VERY helpful and knowledgeable Linda. There isn't a big sign outside the door so it might be easy to miss but I called her and she was able to explain exactly how to find the door. I've been wearing wigs since a young girl due to alopecia, and am now in my 30's, so i'm quite knowledgeable with wigs. I stumbled across this place when I needed one cut, and didn't want to make the trip regular lady in the suburbs. That's how I met Linda, and she is amazing. She has a lot of experience with cutting wigs, caring for wigs, and I know she also does extensions. She's the only one I see now for cuts. I have a regular company i've been with for years that I order very expensive vacuum wigs from, and I trust Linda completely to cut and style them. I always leave there feeling great, her work is awesome! They also do sell a variety of wigs.
