She talked be through the different options (tape, bead, and fusion extensions). The salon is small but clean and seems to have great options for lashes and hair extensions. She usually sees Marlene and if it's a special occasion and can't see her, Jennifer the manager helps her get an appointment with someone quickly. I appreciate the care that the salon takes in making sure people are comfortable. In my sister's case, they treat her with dignity and respect. Other salons in town don't always do this. When possible, I recommend making an appointment during the weekdays (mid-week) because it's easier to schedule. Also, parking is better. I saw Areta for my great lengths hair extensions on March 10th, and they still look absolutely amazing. The placement was perfect, and she cut them beautifully. I have not lost any of them and it has been almost 4 months!! My natural hair is actually growing back now long and thick (I had lost a lot of it before due to bad hair extensions in the past). This is something I was very interested in and I am so happy that my hair is getting strong again and will continue to get healthier. I added a couple pictures just of the length. Areta is also very responsive and friendly which makes the process so much better. I want to start off by saying that I have gone to Chicago Hair Extensions for years, and ironically enough found Daria via Yelp reviews. From my extensive research before going in for a consultation, it was extremely difficult to find any negative comments. I would never normally take the time out to write reviews for a service that is so successful, but after seeing a horrid, untrue post about her I absolutely feel the need to do some defending. As a small backstory, I had a stress-related hair disease and lost an embarrassing amount of hair at a young age. I started with clip-in extensions, and for convenience tried out the micro beads from a site online, and even more hair was destroyed. If you are considering the fusion extensions, the price is worth it. Before Chicago Hair Extensions and also while living in Boston for a short time, I tried two other fusion salons, both of which were ridiculously higher in price and weren't placed nearly as well on my scalp as when Daria did it for me. Depending on the condition of my hair at the time, I usually get 1-2 bundles for thickness. There are so many colors to match and I have personally dyed mine before. People are always shocked to hear that I have extensions because of how well they blend. This woman is the most professional and genuinely caring hairdresser that I've had. No matter what the age of the client she is extremely easy to talk to and up to date with her styling. My extensions have always lasted the longest with her and over time my hair has become increasingly healthy again. I've recommended her to my college friends and also to friends of my mother. I came in to get my eyelashes filled and decided to ask about their hair extensions because I saw someone getting theirs done. They said that they do free consultations so I decided to do that. First & foremost: the positive reviews on this site regarding this salon are NOT honest. And if Daria hadn't made things worse by insulting me via text message MINUTES after i wrote mine (she sure wasn't that fast when it came to resolving my problem after they got paid), i wouldn't have written this update. i started going to this place BECAUSE of the reviews. Now i feel screwed not once but twice. Since i started going there, and until i wrote this review, there have been 1 review written every 1-2 months if not less frequently, sometimes 1 in 6 months (check the dates). All of a sudden, after i submitted mine, a few people contacted me asking me questions, and felt comfortable writing their own negative opinion..but there has been a SLEW of positive reviews, one after the other, all saying they "will be back", with pictures. Do you really think people are stupid ? How about you guys start doing your job professionally instead of misrepresenting yourselves to snatch thousands of $ from customers ? i, better than anyone else, know how reviews work, and this salon is literally BUYING them. Some new reviewers have not written reviews in ages until this salon's rating started going down. Below is my initial review. U can buy all the positive reviewers u want, this one will stay here. If Daria sends me another insulting text, i will copy a screenshot of it here. i consider myself FREE to give my opinion without being insulted: Very poor after-sale service. Will not be going back. No customer likes to feel their business is not appreciated. i have spent $4000+ at this place. But don't think that if you are a good customer, U will be given any special treatment. You are just like everyone else. Nope, that's not how u do business. You are selling a luxury product, and luxury clientele will not and should not put up with this treatment. i run 2 businesses and that's not the right way to go. 2nd time i had my extensions put on, i complained they were very different from the first extensions i had on, and was concerned Daria could have put on something different since you can't really check each and every bundle she uses. They were just different. She insisted they were the very same and that she would offer me an additional free set (which would normally cost $175). Of course, she worried i might come here and complain about the quality, hence the "offer". i finally didn't go for it since they are a bit far from me and thought i'd deal with them. She later admitted when i came for new extensions, that actually Tony Odisho "changed the blond hair because it was causing them problems". FYI: i had contacted Odisho directly and they flat out denied that (they didn't know what i was talking about). All right, fine. Since then, i got the same kind of hair, even though she said "we never know what we get, each time is different". Now i know it is not true. i am just wondering if she put on the first time better quality extensions, and then when she saw that i went back, she switched to something else and kept using them everytime, i have no idea. They have a special that goes on all year long: for every 5 or 6 bundles, you get free eyelash extensions. i never used this offer because they are far from me. This last time, i asked not to have extensions put on the upper sides. When i returned home, i noticed the upper and lower areas weren't well blended. Some strands shd have been put there, and if i have requested not to have extensions on the sides, it was daria's job to advise me to put just a few to create harmony. After all, she is the expert, not me. So i asked her if i could come back for another bundle for the sides and told her it would cost me a lot of $ in cab rides, and therefore wondered if they could arrange the price for that last bundle (since they also only sell u the whole bundles even when you don't need it all). The answer was "you didn't want them on the sides, we can't do anything about the price", then she added "i will ask the owner if she wants to arrange the price". i told her that customers SOMETIMES change their mind, especially when it comes to hair, and as 99.9% of women on planet earth, including herself, sometimes i come home under a different lighting on a different mirror, and see things i wasn't able to see in their salon (no, their lighting is not amazing). i explained to her that this is surprising because she did feel free to offer me a free bundle previously, but now she no longer could decide ? i never heard back from either her or the owner. Looks like they don't really care about my business. So i don't care either. They actually did me a favor since i found closer FUSION REMY extensions which you buy by the strand, AND they don't ask you to wash your hair and dry it at home yourself without any styling products, because they wash it for you. And, last but not least: it's cheaper. At the end of the day: not recommended. Btw, i already solved the problem elsewhere. read more

This salon had the best prices for hair extensions I have seen in Chicago thus far. I called to schedule the free consultation they promoted on their website and spoke with Areta. She asked me if I wanted to come to the salon, or for her to come to my place. I opted to drive to the city and meet with her to discuss the process. To begin with, this place is more like a little boutique than a hair salon (which was pretty nice because I was nervous). Areta explained the entire process to me and was patient with all of my questions. I wasn't sure if I should have gone with the Cinderella or SoCap hair, and really needed a few days to think about it. I decided on the Cinderella hair, and went in 3 days later to have my extensions applied. I was there for at least 3 hours, but it was totally worth the time. The hair they used is good quality, real human hair. The hard part was sitting in the chair for a while because I'm fidgety. Thankfully, she was cool about letting me get up and stretch as well as take a couple calls. I had a ton of questions about taking care of my new hair, and was glad she gave me tips on what to do after. She said they will last up to six months, and so far they still look nice. One added bonus was that my stylist gave me her number in case I had any questions on what to do if my hair got tangled in the future. I'm kind of athletic, so that was a concern of mine. My advice to anyone getting hair extensions is to not choose cheap hair. This salon said I could bring in my own hair, but since their prices were low, I just went with what they offered. Regardless of where you decide to go for hair extensions, just make sure you write out all your questions before you get them done. I had another amazing experience at Chicago Hair Extensions Salon with Marlene! The main reasons I love coming here is : 1.) They are professionals. For a service at this price point, you want someone who knows what they are doing. Extensions is what they do all day every day of the week. 2.) I did my research, and this salon consistently (over many years) has happy, repeat customer--myself included now. They have an excellent track record for good quality hair extensions that last and look natural. 3.) I leave looking like I have celebrity hair! It's not too over the top (very natural. In fact, no one has ever suspected my hair was not my own in the 4 months I had them on). My most recent experience: This was my second application of a hot fusion hair extensions with Marlene. I came back after enjoying my full head of beautiful hair extensions for a little over 4 months. I originally decided to get hair extensions because I wanted more volume and a not a dramatic change in length. Arriving, I was a bit nervous because this would be my first time having extensions removed. Removal was a breeze; the spray used to break the bond seems really gentle and not harsh smelling. After removal, which took maybe 40 minutes, my natural hair looked great still (healthy and as full as it was before I had extensions, what a relief!)! I had a new set of fusion hot extensions applied, and I love them! Marlene is the best! She's extremely experienced, does such an amazing job, and truly knows her stuff. She's smart and detail-oriented. I am soooo happy to have found her. I haven't tried any of the other ladies, but have seen their work while in the salon, and I think you would be in good hands with any of them. This review is based on the appointment process for extensions. Since I was a first time customer I was required to do a consultation. Totally understandable. Sashawn is the only stylist who does sew-ins (she primarily does lashes) so my appointment was with her. When I made my appointment for the consultation I asked if I could also make the appointment for the sew-in. I was told no but was assured by the receptionist that the week I wanted to get it done (after Easter) was available.  While I'm at my consultation, Sashawn informs me that she's not available until the end of April.  I don't understand why the receptionist couldn't tell me this when I first made the consultation appointment weeks prior. It's been 6-7 years and I'm officially addicted. I had to be on hold for over ten minutes when I called to make an appointment which would have been fine had they taken two minutes to tell me that there is a length requirement for hair to get extensions. I love trying different looks and I love switching up my style which includes adding extension and trying different shades when coloring my hair. I called up the receptionist and said I had a "hair emergency" since my normal stylist is on maternity leave and her assistant did not use enough bond to make sure my new hair would stay on long enough. Sadly Carissima Hair salon has not been able to find a good replacement so i thought I would call up Chicago Hair extensions Salon to help me replace just 10 pieces. I stated I could meet one of their stylists any time on Sunday and I was overjoyed when Deidra agreed to make time for me before her appointment at 5pm. First of all she bad mouthed all the work prior and then complained that at least 30 or more extensions were due to come out. I go by cycles and I was going to have the other 30 or more removed in just five weeks. Honestly there was no rush and I told her I just needed 10 or 12 but she would not listen to me and she overloaded my head with over 75 new pieces of which 15 were plastic hair not human hair as she had promised. How do I know she over loaded it? I was in pain for five full days and I had to visit Boston in a week so one of my regular stylists experienced in So cap hair assured me the bonds were not keratin since she had such a hard time removing the excess hair to give my poor scalp a rest. I know this stylist might have thought she was doing me a favor but she did not know now to work with my thick, wavy hair and she buried much too much of own curly hair with way too many extension bonds and fake hair to boot . I was unable to color the pale blue pieces of hair she had added because It was obviously fake hair and she had placed the bonds way too close to my scalp because they were sticking straight up after the heat application. I don't know if she was "rushed and under pressure" to give me a style but I would have looked much better and suffered less of a financial loss had the stylist here simply listened to my needs and replaced only the 10 or 15 that needed immediate assistance. What irks me is she was bad mouthing what other people did to my hair and yet she perhaps made me the most unhappy. It was expensive and the bonds were too close together so there was very little room for me to touch or massage my own scalp. I will never be returning here ever again. read more

I recently got my hair extensions done by Areta. I feel like a new girl, my hair looks so natural, thick and long and my hair cut looks really great too. I can't say enough about the service. I needed a Saturday appointment but Areta was booked, however she accommodated me by staying after hours. From the second I walked thought the salon door to the process of getting extensions and then styling, Areta's attention was on me and making me look great. It took me a long time to decide to have extensions, I worried it wouldn't go with my style, that it would be a pain to maintain... but but after a few days I didn't even realize the extensions were even there! I was SO excited to try this place. I wanted extensions for a friend's wedding and a vacation the week after the wedding, so I figured it was a perfect time to get them done. Everything I had read about this place was amazing, so I booked a consult in May and ended up placing a deposit for my appointment in early June. I wasn't happy that I would end up spending over $1000, but I figured you get what you pay for, so I'd be getting a great product with great service. I was so pleased at first, but within the week of getting them done, they started falling out! I couldn't believe it! I figured it was something I was doing, so I went over the care guidelines again. Turns out, I was following all the instructions to the letter. I figured a little loss was normal, but week after week I was averaging 3 clumps slipping out. I'm not even 3 months out and I've lost the majority of the extensions. I understand they only tend to last 5 months, but mine wont make it that long. It's super embarrassing and I wish I had been fully informed before coming here. I know they wont refund anything, but I also know the installation was the problem, not my after care. I set up a consultation for new tape in hair extensions, drove 3 1/2 hours just to speak with the stylist. When I finally arrived to the salon, the people were less than friendly. I sat down in the chair, the stylist looked at my hair ( which I already have tape ins in) and quoted me $800.00 for the hair! She was very surprised when I explained to her that I have done my research, friends are stylist and have received multiple cheaper quotes. She then turned into the rudest, most unprofessional stylist. This salon is such a rip off. They are taking advantage of women, thinking they don't know how much the actual hair cost the stylist. Only about $130 per pack at stylist cost for top notch hair. They up charge and actually make money on the hair that is YOURS!!! Tape ins are the easiest extensions to apply and take no time at all.. she was charging me $500 for installation.. no thanks, Ill take my business else where and everyone else I know who needs actual customer service.
