I got a groupon for a deep tissue massage as my shoulders, neck, and back had been bothering me since the holidays. This was one of the closer options to me since I don't drive, and I was worried this was going to be a mediocre massage since it didn't cost a lot. This was actually one of the best massages I've had since shopping for them on groupon. Laura was so nice and she had wonderful pressure as well as identifying where the tension was. She used a machine first for my shoulders and back to relieve and warm up my body for about 20 to 25 minutes, then she started rubbing the knots out and it hurt so good. The conversation we were having kept me distracted from how sore my body was. She also noticed that the amount of tension on my shoulders resulted in a slight misalignment in my neck. She got most of my knots out and rubbed the rest of my body for a bit. I appreciated it so much as her husband was kind enough to also adjust my neck and back for me. I was gifted a groupon to Healing Hands and had a disappointing and somewhat nerve-wracking experience. First of all, the scheduling system and office both seem to need some tuning up. I made the appointment and was told I would receive an email confirmation....I received 5 (somewhat annoying). I was also asked to fill out a survey beforehand but the link did not work. When I went in for my appointment I was not asked to fill anything out. Strange. The office does not look very professional. The massage table had a drab, wrinkled sheet placed over it and I wondered if it was used by the person before me. I don't even think it was a sheet (maybe just a piece of fabric - as I don't remember seeing seams. The nerve-wracking/scary part of my experience began as I came into the building. The office is in an apartment building at the end of a hallway on the 4th floor. I had the last appointment of the day and was surprised to find the halls dim and quiet (no one around) and no receptionist at the desk. The therapist was finishing with another client and when she left I looked around expecting to see someone else. I was alone in the big, quiet building with a 50-something year old man dressed in black. Besides being creeped out that is also unprofessional, especially when a male is treating female clients. You should always have someone else around for the clients safety and comfort and therapists (so they don't get accused of anything). Since the groupon was a gift I hadn't looked into the clinic, but soon realized it was a chiropractic clinic. The groupon was for a swedish massage but the therapist did a lot of just stretching my arms and legs (which I didn't really care for and couldn't relax because of the atmosphere - being alone and the bright room). He also was cracking my fingers and toes with is painful and creeps me out, but he stopped when I asked. The massage was very mediocre and I honestly didn't feel much different after leaving. When I was leaving, the therapist asked me to fill out a survey on the computer. Miracle hands. Amazing. Helpful. Professional. I have been experiencing constant lower back pain for over 2 weeks since blacking out in a chair & falling after too much/too strong, chamomile tea. (Weird I know.) Anyways I went to a Michigan Ave chiropractor who did absolutely nothing to the alleviate the pain. I was very displeased. I never had a professional massage but sensed I needed one. I scoured Yelp & Groupon for days & decided to take a chance on Healing Hands. I had limited availability but luckily they had an appt the day I needed. I saw Laura. She was SO amazing. She listened to what I wanted, offered complementary services at no extra charge, and genuinely cared about getting to the root of the problem. She found it too! She concentrated on the problem area which was a bit painful, but much needed. She felt heat radiating from the exact point. (Which I thought was all in my head.) But she mentioned it without even a word from me. She gave me follow up care instructions (ice packs) and sent her husband in for a brief exam to confirm her diagnosis & rule out a disc problem. I felt absolutely no pain walking home for the first time in over 2 weeks. Even if this treatment fixes my issue, which I hope it will, but I still plan on going back for another massage either way. I am an MD with chronic back pain from standing/doing procedures all day and seen many specialists from rehab doctors to spine specialists to chiropractors to many massage therapists. I'm only in my 20s but have back problems of those decades older. After many x-rays and prescriptions I still was riddled with the same upper back pain that would wake me up in the middle of the night, resolved only by jamming my shoulders and rhomboids into hard objects for relief. I've been to many massage therapists and find they help but usually the soft strokes they use just annoy me, reminding my muscles how sore they are without reaching the deep tissue. Holli (LMT) here was fantastic. She got deep in my shoulders and worked out the kinks. I never fall asleep during massages but this was one time when I was woozy from being so relaxed! Over an hour session (which she did not chince on - an hr is an hr, not 45-50min like most places), she nearly resolved all the pain in my shoulders and managed to work on my rhomboids and calves a bit too. For such a tiny lady she has incredible grip strength to massage each tendon and muscle striation individually. She doesn't rely on strength, but on technique. If you want a soothing session of petting and soft strokes, I am sure you could request that here, but Holli is special in actually being able to deliver a medically therapeutic massage. Pros: amazing technique, reasonably priced (I had a Groupon but they have deals too that make it similarly priced), good scheduling (i booked in less than 48hrs), very flexible with time ( i called asking if I could come earlier and her response was come now!) Cons: street parking but there is a $4 lot across the street, no frills decor (which I like but some may not), questionaire says $25 extra for hard pressure but I think it's more technique than strength and Holli did one of the deepest tissue massage I've ever had without charging me this surcharge. Note tip is cash only (i unfortunately did not have as much cash as I had wished on me!) They've likely earned a long term customer with Holli and I will be back and recommending them to anyone with deep muscle pain! read more

Meh. I have had a ton of massages in my life, but since this was a groupon at a decent price I thought I would try it out. First, the elevator to the building was broken, we had to climb 4 flights of stairs. Now, that is not the worse thing, but when you are heading to a relaxing massage it is the last thing you want to do. Second, the office is medicor. The decor looks like they took a ton of dollar store merchandise and threw it together with no rhyme or reason. Very tacky. But again, I was there for the massage not the look. But when you arrive to other salons that have a more relaxed atmosphere, you feel relaxed going into the massage. Lastly, the massage. It as well was medicor, but not the worse I have ever had. The pressure was light (but I probably could have spoke up more). He did concentrate on the areas that were requested, so that was a major plus. The room was very bright, again, for getting a massage it would have been nice to have a darker room to relax. The music was sufficient, typical piano tunes. Yes the on-line booking system is tedious and it's somewhat concerning that they say several times that this is a medical clinic so bail now if that is not what you want. However, I got a groupon for reflexology and a back/neck massage and thought what the heck. What a great massage! Flor had perfect pressure and had a fluffy blanket to go over me because it was a bit chilly in the room. I was not cold at all. She used medium to light pressure with long strokes and knew her muscle groups. During the massage I had hot packs on my feet which added to my comfort (and warmth). Nice touch. There was quiet, relaxing music playing that was quiet enough to be background music and not distracting but still added ambiance. The suite was basically a loft divided up into a few rooms. It did not feel sterile or medical which was a plus for me. The massage had about 55 minutes of hands on (it was a 60 minute service) which was very good. Some other places I have 45 min hands on for a 60 min service but not here. The reflexology was nice but for me, the massage outshined the reflexology. Do not come here. I used a Groupon. The room looks like a prison cell for lack of better terms. You can hear the people upstairs walking around the whole time. I put my hands on an arm rest on the table and it was dirty and gritty. The walls are stained. The floor was dirty. Very thin sheets. No atmosphere No music. I waited for 5 minutes at the front desk for someone. Then the massage started 10 min after my time was supposed to be. The first 10 minutes were using an ultrasound machine. And my 60 min massage was done at 50 past the hour. So a 40 min massage. No one was around when I waited at the front after I was done either. Very uncomfortable and odd stretching techniques used and I'm someone who sees a massage therapist at a doctors office regularly. Never again. read more

I go see Laura every month to receive a Hydrafacial for self-care and long-term skincare purposes. After nearly one year of seeing Laura, I can truly testify that my skin looks more vibrant and better than ever! Thank God I found this clinic and I have the pleasure of working with Laura. The treatment is affordable and high quality, and Laura is simply very pleasant. I am appalled by all of the negative reviews on Yelp. Um, gosh...where to start. First, this place should be called Creepy Hands and not Healing Hands. I'll tell you why in a second. The place looked like a run-down old dentist's office or something. They had fleece, snowman blankets in the rooms (uh...not too professional looking, couldn't you have found a different blanket?) The guy who worked on me said I needed to take my bra off and lie on my stomach. Ok...fine, I know it's easier to work without any clothes but come on dude, it made me feel uncomfortable. You were old enough to be my grandpa. Then, what REALLY bothered me is throughout the massage he kept leaving and LEFT THE DOOR OPEN. Come ON buddy, I'm half naked! How can I relax when I'm wondering what might happen to me or who might see me if I get up from under the weird snowman blanket? That was just so off-putting. Next, my massage was not 60 minutes, maybe more like 40 with him running in and out. He also used some weird contraption on me that apparently "shocked" my nerves...I guess I was so tense and stressed from midterms a professional masseuse needed to rely on something more intense to loosen me up... (after some googling I think it was called a TENS machine?). Well there goes fifteen minutes of my massage with something strapped to me-- I have no idea what is happening and I felt like I was slowly getting electrocuted to death. It was NOT comfortable, let me tell you. But he walked out so I couldn't do anything, the door was open so I literally felt stuck there. Torture. I received a Groupon for a 50 minute massage for this place as a gift. The establishment itself is fine. It's in an older building in River North and didn't give me a creepy feeling at all. When I arrived I filled out a form with my information and told the receptionist (who was also my massage therapist) that I had recently hurt my back and was seeing a chriropractor and physical therapist to help me get better. Within minutes of being on the massage table the masseuse was selling me the services of her husband, who works with her, who she told me could do massage, chiro, electronic muscle stimulation and other types of services that could help me heal more quickly. I thanked her for that info and told her that I'd think about if my therapy was not working. Throughout the massage she constantly continued selling me on the additional services. Given the fact that I was getting a massage I would have felt weird to tell her to stop selling me, but if I was face to face with a salesperson, I certainly would have cut her off. The massage itself was OK. I didn't feel any better or any worse after the massage. I won't be going back. Following the massage I think I received no less than 4 follow up emails within 24 hours of the visit, which was a minor annoyance. read more

WORST service I have ever received. I bought a groupon for a massage and could not even book my appointment despite MANY attempts. 1. They had the wrong telephone number listed on their website. Some poor woman said she was receiving calls nonstop to her business line due to this. 2. Their website for booking does not work. Constantly receive error messages regarding issues with the account I had to set up, despite correct info being added to my account. 3. They use an answering services who I repeatedly left messages with for months. All calls/messages remained un-returned. I am not sure if this was the fault of the answering service or Healing Hands itself, but regardless it is terrible business practice. The people answering their line are rude, unprofessional and condescending. On my 5th time calling, I asked if there was a direct line I could call instead because my messages were not getting through and the woman yelled at me saying there was nothing she could do, and that I need to learn what an answering service is. If you are never going to answer your phone, you should at least have an answering service who is capable and courteous. In total, I called and left over 10 messages, tried to book online at least 4 times. Despite all this, still could not even book an appointment. Such a waste of time and frustrating to be ignored and yelled at as a paying customer. Would recommend saving your time, money, and sanity and going anywhere else for services. read more

Worst massage I have ever had! Very creepy & uncomfortable experience! I purchased a Groupon & scheduled an appointment for the same day. I got a really good deal & the location was convenient, near my place in Bridgeport. It's a actually a chiropractic office, which I knew going in. When I entered the clinic there were Christmas decorations & an old office desk sitting in this thin hallway, it was quite disheveled. There was a guy sitting awkwardly staring at me & I told him I had an appointment & he gave me some paperwork. The Groupon was for deep-tissue/therapeutic massage & the paperwork said deep-tissue pressure extra $25, which I wasn't too happy about. The massage room had tile floors & a small are rug, there was a basket to put your clothes in with a no shoes/boots sign in it. I opted for the hooks on the wall. The sheets were tattered & grungy, the top sheet looked like it was for a crib, it had pastel animals all over it. Very unprofessional. The bed sheet was pilled & dingy & had fibers on it that I had to pick off, right off the bat I was pretty grossed out. Then Joseph (the therapist) came in to the room, left the lights on, which were way too bright to be relaxing. He started off awkwardly moving the sheet to cover my neck & massage over top of it & I noticed he was breathing really heavily & his hands were shaking. He applied very little pressure & I asked for him to go deeper, which he acknowledged, but never did, just continued lightly massaging with unsteady hands. The whole massage was fumbly & uncomfortable, he was coughing at one point & was very hesitant & was clammy, which made me extremely uncomfortable. The atmosphere was noisy, staff were talking loudly & having conversations with customers right outside the door. It was terrible, so loud & disruptive! As if the massage wasn't bad enough! Towards the end I turned over on my back & Joseph fumbled around, he didn't ask like most therapists do, & just proceeded to massage my face! He started rubbing my forehead & rubbing his fingers along my chin, just beneath my lip. I was so creeped out that I was speechless. I was so relieved when he said it was over. I got dressed & booked it out of there feeling pretty dirty & gross, not relaxed at all! Anything But a "healing clinic med spa." Obviously, a play with words. The building was creepy! Old, dingy, long dark hallway, then you get to their suite and it's just as creepy. They are saying they are a "healing hands clinic med spa" but they are not. There was nothing healing about the experience besides I got it as a gift, I would not pay to go there, not even at a discount. It's some guy and his wife raking in the cash from people getting sucker punched by the discounted rates they offer. Oh and the Groupon pic is Not what it is like at all, that clearly is a facade. Seriously, if I would've been alone, I would not have gone in. So I get past that because again it was a gift to me and the gifter was with me, I ask to use the bathroom before my massage, and it was freezing to the point of shivering. Not healing nor relaxing, it was tragic. I get past that, again didn't complain held it in and get into room for my "back massage and foot reflexology" session. It was less than mediocre and not worth the discounted rate of $38. Walls are very thin so I tried relaxing and tuning out the conversation, laughing, and constant chatter that the person in the next room was having during their session. Then the freaking el passes by every few minutes. At that point I gave up, there was nothing they could do to change my perception of this place. What "real" healing clinic medspa in their right mind rents space in a terrible location, near the el, creepy building, creepy space all together. Oh and unless you live or work downtown or take the el in and can walk to their location, it is a hassle. Finding Parking was not fun and an added expense. So the one star is for the nice girl who stayed after her shift to do my massage, she was a nice person. Terrible place, old and not relaxing, the lady giving me the massage was almost enjoying how bad it was hurting, making fun of me for been a "chicken" I was in so much pain and so tired of her complaining about my body (that is very well keep) that I stopped the massage before it was time (I regret I didn't stopped it earlier) she burned my back with "hot pats" and left my muscles so tense for wanting to hit her every time he was digging on my skin and muscles. As a birthday gift I took my daughter here to get a massage. Laura was her massage therapist . She was just great! Such a sweet lady that makes you feel at home . My daughter got the therapeutic massage . According to my daughter it was great ! At her young age of 17 she suffers from alot of upper back pain and so during this first visit we learned that she needed her back adjusted and physio therapy . So that same day she was seen by Dr Melvin . He was great as well. Professional ,explained the whole process and allowed me to stay in the room so i could see the process.My daughter came out feeling relieved and relaxed. She loved it!!! Laura is an excellent massage therapist. I have been to many fancy spas and have received many disappointing massage sessions - - at top notch prices. Her husband, Dr. D"Souza is nice and personable. He is accomodating and he listens. He also gives advice on better health and nutrition, which I find useful. Both locations are not fancy, but it's the quality of the service that I seek and to that end, they deliver. I was also advised that they are planning on continuing to revamp the decor and the interior, so this will be helpful for those of us in search of a more comforting and relaxing atmosphere. The lights should be dimmer, I will agree, although I have seen quite a few improvements as it relates to the interior. They appear to get better each and every time I get a chance to sneak a massage, since they are working on it as they go. It has gotten much quieter, which I do appreciate during my massage session. I don't care for the loud conversations, and apparently they do listen as this is no longer an issue. Keep up the excellent work Laura, and keep up the high spirits, Dr. D'Souza. I ended up at HHC&MS because I bought a certificate on DealFind. I visited the Bridgeport location at Halstead and 31st. Having lived in Bridgeport for a few years, I was perplexed by the address as I could not recall a spa around this intersection. Once I arrived, I was a little surprised by how 'plain' the facility presented. The clinic could use a major facelift. However, I am so glad that I didn't leave. It was perhaps THE BEST massage that I've had in my life. I've been to many beautiful spas with luxurious amenities, but this was the place to be to really get worked on in a therapeutic way. This was the first time I have ever gotten acupuncture and I was very pleasantly surprised. I was not sure what to expect but I overall enjoyed it very much. Dr. Melvin was a very friendly and personable person and easy to talk to. He also answered all my questions very thoroughly. I was extremely impressed with the massage that I received from Laura a few weeks back. I didn't know what to expect when I first went but was pleasantly surprised with the care the I received. When I went I was experiencing very painful plantar fasciitis but was just expecting to get a swedish massage. Laura completed the massage with expertise and on top of that she gave me a killer foot massage and taught me how to care for my injury. I bought my Groupon for $30 which is supposedly half off the normal price of $60. On their check in sheet, they said that the normal price of a 1 hour massage was $99 and $20 was the suggested tip. Come on. I DID end up giving her a $20 tip but only because she was really good. I much enjoyed the massage part, but I have received reflexology before and this wasn't reflexology how I've grown to understand it. It was a great pressure point foot massage, but she didn't ask me anything about any ailments I may have to effectively administer pressure point massage to the according points that connect to different organs in the body. I will say however, I was very relaxed and had a positive experience with the massage therapist! She was very sweet and I will be back for the second part of my groupon deal. read more
