I suffered from a hiatal hernia for the last year and a half. When I first felt the symptoms, I…read moreinitially thought it was GERD as I had experienced it a few years back. I thought if I watched my diet - veggie juices and salads or steamed vegetables - it would get better as that is what I did the first time it happened. It eased the symptoms but never healed it. After 6 months of some herbal medicine (herbal medicine worked but if I stopped it would come back), plus 2 types of acid blockers (otc meds you're suppose to take for 2 weeks and did not work) , I finally went to a gastroenterologist who performed an EGD on me and the hernia was found. For 7 months, I took acid blockers (20 mg) then went to a 40 mg (prescription was cheaper than otc), as well as a dopaminergic blocker 3x a day before food. Again, they eased the symptoms but never got better. One effect of the drugs on me, because they made me feel better compared to before, I ate everything I wanted and gained about 10 lbs. The next step was surgery which I did not want to do. I remembered years ago my rolfer did some manipulation near my stomach and I felt that he would be able to fix me. Unfortunately, he hasn't traveled to this side of the states and I was feeling a bit desperate so I did some internet research and it looked like a hiatal hernia could be adjusted by a chiropractor but not all chiropractors can do this. Also, note that I felt desperate as I quit the meds cold turkey and apparently, this makes your stomach produce twice the acid and was experiencing a lot of discomfort. You're not suppose to do that as your body's system has relied on those for some time to run. In Northern Virginia, MD and DC, there was only one reference to a chiropractor/ naturopath who was able to adjust this condition and this was Dr. Sievers, so I made an appointment and as hokey as this may sound, he was able to bring my stomach back to it's position - or at least it felt like it. After he performed the adjustment, I could breathe better. After my dinner (my appointment was at 3:15 pm), I noticed that the symptoms were 60% better. I am still currently healing my digestive system and I am on a healthy plant based diet. I believe I am still working on reversing the effects of the acid and dopaminergic blockers. I feel like I should never have taken those drugs. Obviously, this is your choice but if you suffer from this same condition, I would suggest to do the manipulation first and see if it works for you. When he arrived, he was well prepared and checked over the test kit and noticed that the mailing bag was missing which I was able to easily find. He was very quick and it was very obvious he has a lot of experience. He explained what the test required running it through a centrifuge before he can mail it to the lab. He was done very quickly and was out the door in only a few minutes. This was so convenient that I plan to check with him for my future lab work.

Great "bedside manner," so to speak. Knows how to connect to patients, while still being very professional. I obviously don't like that I have to see a doctor, because that generally means you're not 100% healthy, but if I had to pick one, it would be Dr. Ruddick (or Dr. Ipakchi). In fairness, those are the only two I think I have ever dealt with, but they are both amazing. Hard to pick just one.
