I have mixed reviews about this plan! First of all I'm not sure if I'm on medicaid or not. I'm not supposed to be on medicaid because I work so I'm told I'm not on medicaid but the neighborhood says I am. Second off, either my phone is glitchy, the internet, or the electronics because my primary care health physician keeps changing. Additionally, someone keeps changing around my medical record and faking hospital visits over and over for the insurance money and not letting me get access to the healthfirst physician booklet so that I can pick a physician! It's so bogus!!!! Such corruption. No idea what is going on. I think I'm going back on the "Black Lives Matter" bandwagon because I'm not sure who can stand this abuse anymore. WOW thought I'd leave a review, mainly because I had to call customer support and was relieved at how easily the representative (Suraya) was to speak with and how quickly she got me the information I was looking for. I really like the healthfirst member portal, I'm moving out of state and the new insurance company has one too...but it's very clunky, you need to speak to a rep to do anything, I'm not even sure the portal serves a purpose aside from beating the customer service phone number into your head until you want to scream. I was able to update my primary care provider info through the app while AT THE DOCTOR'S OFFICE. took affect in just minutes. I can easily access my member ID card through the app (wonderful because i lose everything), easily see my claims history for my own record keeping. I am absolutely furious! Today, I received a phone call from one of my specialists informing me that Optum and Healthfirst will no longer be participating. This means that someone like me, who heavily relies on my medical history due to my diagnosis that led to my disability at a young age, will be greatly affected. I am now faced with losing my primary doctor, whom I have been seeing since I was 18 years old (I am now 42). I will have to start from scratch with a new doctor, and how is that remotely fair to me or any other individuals in a similar situation? VERY DISAPOINTED with Health First after many years enrolled. All I asked is to transfer from Complete Care to Life improvement and I got denied, not once twice, I know I was degrading the quality of insurance but I had reasons to it and explained it clear. HF was very fast in disenroling me of the plan, leaving me the month of June with no Dental vision nor medications cover and no OTC that will help me pay for my light bill and over the counter medication. My anxiety is very hight right now I am crying because I try to prevent all this with anticipation made calls and supposedly I qualify for transfer really. I did a transfer like this years ago and there was no problem at all but was different because I was upgrading. Meantime I had to wait for a month to get my benefits by enrolling like new client.... Not happy at all. I will definitely don't recommend anyone to transfer or switch quality of plan with this company, and definitely will find another plan coverage ASAP read more

This is the absolute worst insurance ever. I have copays for providers I've gone to for 5+ years and haven't had copays for with other Essential Plan insurance, my prescriptions are double/triple the usual cost, and my PT pre-auths were later denied after being approved. My doctor submitted multiple appeals for me that HF won't even read. The only physical therapist they will approve for me is in Ft Washington... 10 miles from where I live. This is currently the "top rated" insurance on the NYSOH marketplace which is crazy because I was on Anthem BCBS for 4 years, which is rated second from the bottom, and never had a single problem with them. I've been on Healthfirst for 3 months and have already switched for the upcoming month. I also requested an insurance card 4 times from them and never received it??? lol... Completely incompetent. I switched to other insurance over five years ago and STILL get weekly letters and phone calls asking me why I haven't filled out my enrollment. I have gone on their website, filed information with the state, talked to dozens of people, sent registered letters . . . and I'm still getting calls and letters. Even though I no longer live in their jurisdiction or qualify. Can only assume that they are incentivized to keep me on the rolls somehow as some way to bilk the state. read more

OMG, getting assistance while shopping for health insurance was a nightmare with Healthfirst. I spent 30 minutes with reps who could hardly understand the English language and after making me fill out the applications, they then could not explain to me the different plan benefits and costs. Which is a problem because you spend hours in vain looking for a doctor. I just called (Nov 2019) and Mount Sinai downtown told me NO DOCTOR IS ACCEPTING NEW PATIENTS WITH HEALTHFIRST. Neither is Gouverneurs Medical on Madison Street (which is a clinic and not fancy at all). I must tell you this organization does not care about us the customer, They are not customer centric. Their reprersentatives are not trained and there supervisors do not respond or handle medical issues with any sense of urgency or provide resolution. This is the worst insurance I've ever had. Going through the market place, I chose this insurance because on the site it said that my current doctors took this plan. Then I tried to make appointments and NONE of them take this insurance. So I starting searching for new doctors. I have called so many and none of them take this insurance!!! You search on the Healthfirst website for doctors, find ones that looks promising, saying they are accepting new patients, I call and nope, don't take it. The worst insurance I have ever encountered in my entire life. I enrolled my son for 7/1 and received a letter to activate his online account...if your child is under 18 it won't let you set up an online account for them...you need to set up an online account to make the first payment for the insurance to become active. So I called member services, made the payment over the phone and was told my new enrollment date had to be moved to 8/1. Fine...annoying, because it delayed my ability to take him to his 9 month appointment on time, but fine. The representative gave me a default DOB to be used to log in and create an account for children under 18. I tried logging in with this default DOB, it did not work. I called member services again to get this issue sorted so that I could create an online account for him and select his PCP online before his upcoming appointment...I called and was told they couldn't find his account and there was an issue in their system and his account was not active because while they could see the date and time that I had made the payment over the phone on their end...it wasn't updated in their system to make his account become active. At this point I had already changed my work schedule around to take my son to his doctors appointment which was already scheduled for that evening and I'm being told on 8/17 that insurance that should have become active on 8/1 (that I already paid for for the month of August) is still not active due to a glitch in their system. Absolutely unreal, my son's doctors appointment was delayed almost 2 months due to their ineffectiveness. It's actually criminal, they should be sued. They absolutely have the worst coverage and deny you necessary medication and treatments. Sure want to go 20 miles to obtain treatment in the Bronx or way out on log island, you might get treatment if you can. Their facilities are totally inadequate for issuing a policy for the south shore of Long Island. They mislead you and then when you need the coverage they just deny it, without a rational or reasonable reason. Amazingly on their blatantly lacking website, not surprisingly when you type in Appeal Decision, you get nothing on their website. Not very surprising. By the time you are able to get urgent care, the concept being care that is close to your home, is nowhere to be found. The agony and constant fight to find care is just not worth it. They take your money each Month and they kiss your butt goodbye. Are they kidding me? Where is all the promised readily available care locations, great Doctors? The website is just useless. Another government sponsored and assisted ripoff. Can't believe I fell for this. I will be looking for real coverage so, When I get sick I can get medical Treatment. I applied for home care , I have severe back and leg problems and provide I provide all info to Medicaid for CPAS, I got approved for homecare from my assessment. So Healthfirst is my health insurance, to give me hours for homecare services, after calling them for over a week they said I am qualified for " 7" hours a week. After I heard that I said no I need more hours, so after 1 week customer service took my request for more hours. I told them I need at least seven hours per day I go to the doctor 3 to 4 times a week and I need someone to help me up and down the steps in my home because I cannot stand Long on my legs. This is over 2 1/2 weeks and I'm still waiting to see if they approve me for more hours, I'm missing my doctors appointment for over 2 1/2 weeks. I never spoke to the case manager from Healthfirst. I basically sleep in my living room because I cannot go upstairs to my bedroom. There's no one here to help me and help is everything and not taking into consideration what I'm going through I was in the emergency room a couple of days ago because of my health problems, I cannot stand long. I cannot sit too long. I lay too long my daily activities I can't do and they don't care. I need help and they don't care every day. I'm calling them and I don't get the answers. I need to hear my complaint. They're not doing their job customer service. read more

Customer service is HORRIBLE. The reps are completely oblivious as to what their job title is. 9 times out of 10 you can't get someone who speaks or understands clear English. The other time I was actually able to get an English speaking rep I was hung up on without getting their names. Out of all the NY Medicaid Plans I have been on including UHC and Fidelis, Healthfirst seems to be the best so far. I have been on HF for only a month and a half and so far I am very impressed. All the meds that I was on before are covered. Even the meds that needed prior authorization (PA) were approved very quickly. There were even meds that did not appear on the Formulary covered by their prescription benefit manager, CVS/Caremark. To check if the med is covered you must create an account with Caremark and hit the option for 'Check Drug Cost". I like that I only have to deal with Caremark for Rx PAs. I was also able to get an MRI and an Epidural Steroid Injection approved pretty fast. Their regular customer service is ok. It depends on who you speak with. HF uses different contractors for administering certain service authorizations, incl. eviCore for radiology and OrthoNet for pain management and physical therapy. You can work with these contractors directly if you'd like, which is more convenient imo. read more

Over the past few years, I've had Healthfirst insurance. As most people know, it is health insurance for low-income New Yorkers. I'm not a guy who mooches off the system. I don't spend all day playing Fortnite and watching Maury. I'm a law school graduate who passed two bar exams (NY, NJ). Despite my best efforts, I haven't been able to find employment that's commensurate to my credentials. I have two part time jobs, neither of which pays enough to survive in the Big Apple. I've relied on Healthfirst so I can have quality healthcare despite my precarious financial situation. Last year, my annual income increased slightly. A month ago, I received a letter stating that my insurance was being terminated. I was devastated. The next day, I went to the HRA office on Atlantic Avenue and explained my situation. Quite frankly, they didn't give a shit. I did some research and discovered that Fidelis insurance has many of the benefits of Healthfirst. The monthly premiums is commensurate to someone's salary. Today, I asked a representative at Fidelis if I could switch from Healthfirst to Fidelis. He said that I could only do so after my Healthfirst insurance expires. Just one problem: I have an important doctor's appointment on June 14. My Healthfirst insurance expires on June 13. There was no way that I could afford to pay out of pocket and obviously, my Fidelis insurance coverage wouldn't magically begin on June 14. I called someone at Healthfirst and tried to explain my situation. The glorified McDonalds employee whom I talked to had a nasty attitude. She didn't even want to give me a one week extension. That dingbat didn't care less that I would be walking around without health insurance. Heaven forbid if something happened to me and I needed to go to the hospital. After I used a 4 letter word, she hung up. Healthfirst seems to think that since most of the people who use their services are low income and/or minorities, it's ok to treat them like shit.
