I recently visited the Jericho Turnpike Huntington store and picked up a meal that was clearly labeled as $7.77. However, at checkout, I was told the price was $9.89. When I brought this to the assistant's attention, she called her supervisor and explained that the label had not been updated to reflect the new price. While I understand pricing errors can happen, good customer service would have been to honor the clearly marked price and correct future labels--not insist I pay more than what was advertised. Instead, I was told I had to pay the higher price. It left me questioning the store's pricing practices. This isn't the first disappointing experience. On another occasion, the same assistant refused to let me return a meal I had just purchased--despite the fact that I hadn't even left the store and only wanted to exchange it because my daughter changed her mind. Additionally, I've noticed that the portion sizes of the meals have been shrinking noticeably over the past year. I have been going to Humus Fit, which is great, but the menu and welcoming staff is nothing compared to Healthy Meals Direct. Nonetheless, the manager Tiffany made my experience worth while! She was not only knowledgeable about her products, but was able to help me find exactly what I wanted (even if I came off picky after asking her for a suggestion lol). I have only used this for pick up, so I may not speak on their ordering/meal subscription services. To "grab n go," it's $10/meal. (You save money if you pre-order and commit to a plan for the week. From what I understand, you can pre-select exactly which meals you want. I am told they have more options available online than they stock in store. You can also add on a delivery option.) We have tried at least 10 different meals, between my boyfriend and I. The meals we have experienced mostly range from good to great. There were one or two that I really liked, otherwise I wouldn't say that they're exceptional or particularly exciting. (4 stars because there have not been any meals so far that I haven't liked.) My favorites so far have been the spicy lemongrass chicken dumplings and the cheddar bbq steak bowl. My coworker really enjoys the frozen protein drinks. The meals are small- however perfectly portion controlled for me. A little expensive for the amount of protein- my boyfriend definitely needs at least two to hold him over for lunch. It's a good start for someone who is trying to lose weight / be mindful of their carb/protein intake, especially if meal prepping is difficult for you. Otherwise, honestly I feel like I could cook most of the meals myself and adjust the flavors more to my liking. This service is certainly a convenient option for those who prefer not to cook or go out for lunch everyday. We like to grab a few to have as options for the week, it saves a lot of time and money. The less decisions for us to make later, the better. The store has a decent selection, which changes routinely. They have at least 10, maybe even 15 options when you walk in. The staff is friendly and accommodating when approached, but otherwise indifferent. We serve ourselves, which I kind of prefer because you can look around and check out the different options. The only thing I would change about the store is that there is no menu posted to summarize the different meal options for the day/week. The only way to know what is in the different fridges is to physically open each fridge and take inventory yourself. Out of all of the meal prep services I am familiar with, so far this one is the most convenient for me locally. I am a personal trainer and have ordered from many different meal prep companies. I used to pay $50 just for the shipping from Florida- so this is definitely easier on my wallet. Bottom line- I suggest you check out this service to see what they're made of yourself. $10/meal isn't going to break the bank, plus the meals are healthier than what you can usually find for takeout. read more

This place was recommended to me by a few people so I had pretty high expectations, however I was pretty disappointed overall. Stopped in here quick one day for lunch and had a pretty mediocre over priced meal. I looked around for a bit because the cases were pretty unorganized so I wanted to see what they had. I ended up choosing the Turkey meatballs with sweet potato fries. The meatballs were just ok and there was very few fries. On top of this the meal wasnt cheap. As a covid nurse at Huntington Hospital, my job takes an incredible role on me physically and mentally. I'm sure I don't have to explain the horror of what my job entails and that I risk my life for my patients every shift. The chicken bits have too much breading, and some pieces contain gelation-like substance (the fat - which I do not like at all). Also, read carefully the dressing sides (much contain artificial ingredients). Grilled chicken option tend to be dry. Also, the "chicken and peppers" option is way to oily! I do like this service, but I strongly believe it needs to change its vendor. I'm willing to pay a bit extra for better quality meats - especially the chicken. read more

I'm a huge fan of this service. Being from The Bronx, any time I'm on the island, I make sure to stop at Healthy Meals Direct. The quality and prices are great. However, the timing of the locations for a business that serves breakfast is quite disappointing. Some locations open at 9am, some at 10am, when I want to be purchasing breakfast at 7am or 8am. I have found myself passing by for breakfast and the business has yet to open on several different occasions. Also, opening Fridays at 11am is extremely late. Every location provides microwaves to heat up your food, but most recently napkins have been removed from the utensil package. Napkins should always be provided. These observations do not deter me from purchasing again but it is inconvenient at times. read more

Amazing!!!!! I have been going in every Sunday to pick up our weeks meals and I have been very satisfied. I microwave my meals because they're pre made and just need to be heated. I'm surprised how good a microwaved meal could taste and more surprised how it could even keep things crispy when heated up. The price is not terrible for the quality you get. I just learned that if you go to their website and preorder, you can get a nice discount. the other thing about going last minute every Sunday in store, is that you get anything left over from the week- you can't be as specific with what you plan on eating all week. This was a great find and right in my neighborhood. Great tasting, healthy food, at the right price. Only $8.00 per meal in the store and cheaper online if you sign up. And I'm losing weight from eating their meals at lunch. When we first started with them two years ago the quality of the food was much better. We had been noticing that the chicken was not the same. We faithfully purchased COD every week. My sister died unexpectedly earlier in the summer and I was in shock. They did try to contact me but I wasn't exactly worried about it at that time. I mentioned it to the Sunday female manager the next time we came in and apologized. She told me not to worry about it. So we never picked up the food. A few weeks later my whole family came down with Covid. We had it very bad. We had a very bad strain with a fever for 4 days. We did not pick up the food but I did call and explain and apologized. Again we have been using them since May of 2020. Long term customers. When we tried to start ordering again we noticed the COD was removed and were only able to purchase via Credit Card. I contacted the owner and asked if I could have it removed. He asked me to contact someone in his store. I then did reach out and they did try to email me but for some reason I was not getting the emails. I contacted him again and was told to contact her again and it would be taken off. When I finally got on with the manager she was not helpful at all. We began to argue and I will admit I was rude to her. I was very annoyed about how this was being handled. So basically, we were put in a position to only use a credit card to go there. Which he had already recently increased his prices over $20 - $25.00 for my orders and a 3% surcharge for no cash. I told them I was not charging food. If I couldn't pick it up with cash, I was not going to use them anymore. She told me they had a strict policy with the COD which I understand but given the circumstances, we had two very good reasons to not pick those boxes up. Then I am angry and tried to reach the owner. I put an angry post up on the Instagram and rather than answer me, he blocked me two times. You would have thought he would have called me or messaged me. So no, we don't recommend using his service or his food. You should learn how to treat your customers better. We didn't do it intentionally and you should have respected the fact that my sister died and I wasn't allowed to leave the house due to covid. I used to get weekly meal prep orders from HMD a few years ago and I feel that the quality and taste has greatly improved!!!! One week my food did not get delivered and two other weeks my food order was incorrect. The absolute worst. All the meals are dried out and stale tasting. The employees are miserable at all locations, probably underpaid or something. My wife saw bugs crawling around some of the freezers God only knows what's in the food. We've been into the meal prep ordering for a while now and have tried many of the different places on long Island. By far and away the best meal prep is swolehouse meals. Ordered a 21 meal plan for the week to get myself back on track with my diet, which came out to about $6.35 per meal. I got a variety of different meals to try since it was my first time ordering. Most of the stuff I got had chicken in it, since there is an upcharge for the meals with seafood or steak. The chicken tastes like it was boiled then seasoned and possibly grilled, making it very dry. The 2 pastas I got (buffalo chicken pasta and white sauce grilled chicken parmesan over whole wheat penne) were bone dry and almost inedible. The turkey chili and pulled chicken bowl were good, as were the honey garlic teriyaki shrimp and coconut curry shrimp over jasmine rice (again, there is an upcharge for the seafood dishes). Overall, the food was just ok and a lot of the items they offer are very similar. Online ordering was easy and picking up the food is quick. Three weeks in and I'm already sick of the food and won't be ordering again. Note: Orders placed by Monday evening are delivered the following Sunday, so by the time you receive your first order, it is already time to order your next week's worth of meals. Essentially you are ordering 2 weeks worth of food without knowing if you will like it. You can purchase individual meals in the store to try it out, but the price for individual meals is higher. read more

Meals are decent and fairly priced if you buy bulk. The problem is they will substitute meals without letting you choose. In bulk i have thrown meals out that expired the day i picked up. On a few occasions meals tasted spoiled and i had to throw then out before risking getting sick. There costumer service is not bad. So I received a gift card to this establishment and after having a baby I decided it was time to use it. I called and asked how it worked and the woman told me I had to order online which I did. At checkout I was supposed to enter my gift card number but I erroneously checked out without entering the gift card number. When my husband went to pick up the food, they advised we couldn't use the gift card because I never entered the gift card number at checkout. The gentleman at the store advised to call customer service to see if they could help. My husband did just that and whoever their customer service rep was, should not be in customer service. She was rude, nasty, told him she couldn't help and to do it right next time. If that wasn't blood boiling enough, she hung up on him. This review is based off of the two orders I have already gotten. I have to hand it to this company! For someone who is on the go all the time (1 full time job and 2 part time) - these are so convenient. Out of 42 meals I have had, they were all flavorful and good. GOOD. REAL. FOOD! I am NOT a chicken person and I can eat their chicken meals with no problem. Food DOES NOT come out dry or rubbery (as previous posts state) if you defrost them the right way! I usually go into the store in Massapequa & pick my meals out of the freezer. I tried the online ordering with the delivery for a change. Placed my order in the morning. Never received a confirming email that the order was received & was being processed. (I gave my email address, phone # & credit card info) finally had to call them 6 hours later & was told since I did not make the Monday cut off date (doesn't say there is a cut off date anywhere) I couldn't receive my order until the NEXT Sunday. How would I no the order was received? When was it gonna be delivered? Did they deliver to my area? Who knew. Finally someone had to check their computer to give me all this information. To this day I have no idea if they deliver to my area or not. No where does it say that there is a packing fee. No where does it say what the delivery charge is or if there is any. Needless to say I cancelled my order & was assured I would receive a confirming email. 3 hours later no email at all. Frustrating to say the least. Don't order online for delivery. read more
