I enjoy this place I do, but if you're in any kind of a rush; skip it. Today it took 15 minutes for me to get 1 smoothie and a pre made cookie. For 12$ My order was taken then this grub hub guy comes in and instead of simply making my smoothie and sending me on my way. I had to watch as the 2 staff members discussed the grub hub order 4x back and forth to the point I knew who and what was in each order. ..... Only after that was my smoothie made ;....in under 30 seconds and absolutely delicious. Great food and drinks; I guess good things take time. read more

I had the guacamole with veggie plate, and love it. The guacamole was good even by NYC standard. I also had their tea and it was amazing, so I got another cup to go. I feel like if there's any vegan/raw food restaurant in Albany, it would be on Lark Street. I would definitely come back next time when I visit RPI. read more

Really wonderful food here! Came in on a busy Saturday and had a small sunset on lark juice (cabbage, apple, ginger, carrot) and the Korean taco. I felt so satisfied! The taco was actually a scallion Korean pancake with tofu, sautéed vegetables, and kimchi as the filling. Had some greens on the side with some very tart dressing. The food makes you feel great, so if healthy eating is your M.O., this is your spot. Owner is super accommodating, quick, and friendly. The place itself is on the small side, but that didn't stop folks from agreeing to the community vibe at the bigger tables. I just loved overhearing strangers meet for the first time here. It's on the pricey side, especially since the portions are smaller (which isn't a bad thing at all), but the quality of the food is worth the extra dime. Definitely recommended for those good-gut meals! read more

both times were lovely. Extremely cozy space, makes you feel at home. The quality of the food was great, very filling and tasty. Guacamole was amazing, breakfast was extremely tasty. Gluten-free accommodating as well! Mentioned that one of us could not have gluten, the owner explained and recommended items on the menu that could be accommodated. Knew about cross-contamination and informed us the bread is toasted on shared equipment so they offered to toast the bread another way that was safe. Nice to know that the ingredients are also local! The owner is very friendly and welcoming, it really was great. We'll definitely stop by when we're in the area again. read more

My family and I live fairly close to this quaint little spot and have found the food to be great however each time I've come in during normal business hours, the owner (who is also the cook) is usually flustered and appears annoyed at having to prepare what I'm ordering from the menu. The last two occasions she behaved as if it was actually an inconvenience to her which is a shame since the options for healthy vegetarian and vegan dishes in the area are slim. When we are able to get it, the food here is really good. She mentioned she is better able to accommodate orders that call ahead. You may have a better experience if you are able to do that. If you decide to give it a try, just beware the customer service is severely lacking. Also as a heads up, the social media sites and even the sign on the door say they're open until 11am-7pm Mon-Sat. They actually close at 6:00pm. read more

Came to Albany for the day from Manhattan searched for vegan spots I could eat raw at. My Apple, fennel, orange salad was huge, fresh & delicious. The ingredients seemed fresh picked. The fruits were sweet and the arugula crisp. The owner made me incredible fresh guacamole. What a great find coming from the city that has everything which made me feel right at home. Highly recommend! read more

Ordered a green pina juice and a custom fruit smoothie (I think strawberries pineapple and one other thing) for takeout. The large size is tiny compared to other juice places I've been to (don't even bother getting a small here as it's a tiny cup) and the price was hefty. The fruit smoothie was tasty, but the green pina juice was incredibly bland and I definitely couldn't taste the pineapple if they put any in. Both were watery and the smoothie was more of a juice than a smoothie. read more

Fantastic Vegan breakfast, and an amazing community surrounding this small shop in Albany. Needed some substantial breakfast food on the road, so I stopped in for the vegan breakfast wrap that i saw online. Had a great conversation with the owner and Sharon, another entrepreneur in the area. After only a few seconds I could tell this place was a special home for many people around the area looking to better their bodies naturally. The vegan wrap was delicious, a little on the sweet side with all the sweet potato in it. But the vegan sausage and vegan swiss cheese paired nicely with the veggies for a very filling breakfast! Can't wait to return again in the near future! Their smoothies and juices looked delicious and each with their own special health benefits. While I suppose you could point to something on the menu and it would show up, my experience was quite different. My lunch mate and I selected items from the menu and then Sharon Lastique, the owner, asked questions so that she could customize our plates to our liking. Questions beyond which bread and side. Questions like do you want your bread dressed with coconut oil or vegan mayo. Do you like Bragg's? Would you enjoy mushrooms? And so on. The result was very much worth the process. I ended up with a sandwich no part of which is on the menu--sliced tofu sautéd with onions and garlic on hearty whole grain bread with vegan mayo and a side salad of baby greens dressed with balsamic. Delicious, attractive and very much to my liking. My lunch mate ordered a breakfast burrito and was also very happy. Despite the small kitchen, two people working and substitutions galore, the food came out quickly. A nice pot of hibiscus tea kept us company in the small but clean and comfy dining room while we waited. The bill seemed low--the food is worth more--but if they can make it work at these prices, more customers to them. Thanks to Healthy on Lark. I'll be back. read more

Very friendly service! Lots of vegan and gluten free Options. The burrito bowl Was fabulous. It seemed simple on the menu / and I added avocado yet it tasted divine and so much better than the ones I try making at home. This is my new stop when I travel from western NY to my home in NYC and back again. The owners really get it here and they're new so they'll keep getting better!! Long time Albany resident here... never really have been inspired to visit here and only chanced it because of the hot weather today. Said it was open until 6, arrived at 5:30, struck out ordering twice due to lack of availability on the provided menu, was told NO juices available just smoothies... looked another moment while being made rudely aware that she was trying to close (twenty five minutes before advertised time) and 30 seconds later deciding on an almond milk, mango, pineapple smoothie. It was splashed together very quickly and left paying ten bucks for a big cup of mostly almond milk and poorly blended bits of fruit. Oh yeah, no straws either. Definitely not a place I would recommend. Try Raw Juice & Smoothie Bar down the street for a FAR superior experience. read more

I've been to Healthy on Lark a few times over the years for their healthy vegetarian and vegan food offerings, and have always enjoyed everything without exception. They definitely know what they're doing with their tofu and tempeh and I appreciate that these ingredients are featured in their natural state, instead of processed for meat-imitation purposes. Whole-food plant-based people rejoice! That being said, they do have rotating specials such as noodle and taco dishes that will fool an unsuspecting meat lover, if that's your objective. Healthy of Lark also offers very strongly-brewed and locally-roasted coffee (not for the faint of heart), a great selection of teas, smoothies, and fresh, organic vegetable and fruit juices. In an attempt to kick start some weight loss and get healthy for the summer (and all of those annoying, er... I mean charitable, 5Ks), I recently purchased a three-day juice cleanse package from Healthy on Lark as well. A juice cleanse or fast is when you drink somewhere between 60-100 ozs of fresh juice, as well as hearty amounts of tea and water all throughout the day instead of solid food in order to flush out toxins from all of your body's excretory organs. Do your own research to see if it's for you and if you're up for the challenge (calorie-restriction is hard) and don't happen to have an industrial juicer in your home - Head over to Healthy on Lark! Before I began, I met with Healthy on Lark's proprietor (a certified health counselor) to discuss my objectives and juice preferences. I opted for a package of 64 ozs of fresh juice and one 16 oz nut milk smoothie with a protein supplement per day for $134 (total, plus tax and tip). (You can also purchase whole food snacks and/or a meal as a part of your cleanse, but I elected to wait and gauge my hunger and make my own real food as I needed it - which I did). Every morning for 3 days, my fresh juice was delivered right to my doorstep in eco-friendly mason jars. I really appreciated the convenience and enjoyed most of the juice concoctions, especially the ones that were vibrantly vegetal in flavor and green in color. Unfortunately, there were a few things that I wish had gone differently and that now I know for next time. First of all, tell the proprietor what you want and if you want a complete break down of the juice ingredients. I guess I just assumed I would receive variations of the basic flavor combinations on the regular juice menu (which all sounded delicious), but that's not the case with the cleanse package, unless your specifically ask for it. Also, if you want 3-4 (or more) different varieties of juices per day (to keep it interesting), you also have to make that clear. Some days I received 32 ozs each of only two different juice combinations so I got bored pretty quickly. (Actually on this issue, I was told that was the only option because otherwise they would need to give me 5 (!) small mason jars per day, but I consented to this approach because I thought I would be receiving 2 days worth of juice at a time and so I could switch it up myself. This didn't end up being the case.) I also would have preferred smaller jars with individual servings so that the second serving of juice wouldn't oxidize in the half empty jars for a few hours, which definitely changed the flavor. Lastly, keep in mind that Healthy on Lark is not offering some groupon mail-order juice products with fancy labels and instructions. Make sure you do your own independent and thorough research about juice cleansing and if you're not feeling great, communicate with the proprietor as soon and as much as possible. read more

I am displeased by the appearance and quality of the food for the price. The price is not cheap and I only got a thin slice of tomato and a few, maybe 4, pieces of spinach. The burger itself, tasted good, but was small, not $10 worth. Also there were only a few chips as well. Another thing to note was that me and a coworker ordered from work and the order was not in a bag so I was handed a pile of stuff and to top it all off WITHOUT any utensils, just two napkins. Gem hole in the wall kind of spot. I look for special places like this in every city. The food wasn't your average norm.. you could order just about anything on the menu and it was not just delicious but healthy! The place is very small which gives you that Home sweet home feel. The decor was alittle Wild and that gave it the spunk that it needed. You could get a whole meal there that's organic for under 10 dollars. I was impressed by the Tempeh BLT. It was best when she didn't toast the bread cause the bread she uses is delicious! (With seeds & whole grains) read more

My teen daughter and I stopped in after a visit to the NY State Museum, about a 10-minute walk. It was hot out and we were starving but wanted something nearby and healthy. This fit the bill 100%. I had an iced tea and the vegan BLT, daughter/kid had the chick pea burger with goat cheese. Both were served with blue corn chips and some purple sweet grapes. Just the right amount of food, and lovingly served. This (rather than fast food) just is the kind of place I love to support when I'm being a tourist! I'll be back. The ambience is great and the owner was personable and quick. The food was good but didn't leave me with the explosion of healthy vegan food and vegetables I had hoped for after paying $30. I got a juice that was great and the Renan sandwich that lacked any vegetables and made me feel heavy rather than alive! . One kid wanted a salad, the other not sure and we wanted something yummy we wouldn't regret and we all left happy! They have awesome smoothies but the food was amazing - we had a great quinoa salad and cole slaw that my 7 year old could not get enough of, we also had yogurt that she customized with berries of choice, walnuts and agave to make it a little more sweet than tart. The watermelon gaspacho with mint we all loved but the black bean and rice burger and the chickpea burger gave us the healthy that we wanted but the flavors that wow! All homemade and all yummy and after she showed my girls how to Zumba!! We will be back!!!! read more

Today was my first time visiting Healthy on Lark. I came with my friend and we ordered omelets, chips with guacamole and hummus, chilli, and some tea. I have to say, everything was absolutely amazing. I had the local seitan sausage in my omelet, and I just couldn't get enough. Quite possibly the best omelete I've ever had. Plus, the squash hummus was bright and delicious, a really welcomed take on plain hummus which I usually don't like. On top of the great food, the woman who works there was both gracious and helpful. There's no better seasoning for food than good hospitality. As a vegetarian who's all about the local foods and healthy eats, I often have a hard time bringing my non-vegetarian friends places I like. But I can guarantee you that Healthy on Lark will please anyone with their quality food and drinks. This is a haven tucked away in Albany, and I'll definitely be back soon. read more

Honestly the best place I have ever been to in Albany that is vegan/vegetarian. The woman who owns it is so friendly, personable and fun. Now about the food; Every single time I've come here for the food it's delicious every single time. It's super healthy and delicious at the same time. Wayward Lane Brewing's Lifeblood looked like stout and tasted a bit like smoked bacon to me even though it was supposed to feature notes of toasted brown bread and caramelized sugar. The strawberries were sweet and soft and the maple syrup was great. The eggs were scrambled perfectly as well, with great flavor - shocking because most eggs are so flavorless. You get a choice of additional protein and I chose the maple sausage which was delicious as well. The only thing that could be improved was a bit more salt and/or pepper on the home fries but I guess most people use the ketchup that's given, so I understand the under seasoning. The service was friendly albeit infrequent, and that's just fine. Water is left on the table for self-service and that's really why I need additional service attention anyway. All in all, a great brunch place because it has lots of space and feels casual and comfortable. Try it.

The fries were crispy, well seasoned, and overly abundant. Overall the meal was great! It was Thursday night and they had a trivia-like game that was related to Family Feud so I played that. Might have stayed a little later than I should have but the beer was good. I was looking at the beer refrigerator and saw Fiddlehead IPA and asked my bartender about it. He was not really keen on it but that is the best beer they had there, but that is one really good beer. Later I notice that was the beer they were giving you if you ordered the $8 beer and a shot, which is an excellent value! There was some kind of drama this night. There was a lady who first tried to order Jager Bombs for her table and the bartender told her sorry we don't do those so she ordered Tito's shots instead. The City Beer Hall fits the bill. Located on Howard Street, the City Beer Hall has the local hangout vibe for professionals in town like me and locals wanting a beer and a pizza and fun times. The building at one point housed the city's old telephone company, and now is a cool pizza bar joint with a speakeasy that wasn't open when I went. The large room that houses the bar and long communal tables with high ceilings and large windows is like a Biergarten that is works great for happy hours and evening hangouts. Pizza wise, I was pleased with their Hot Honey Pizza that balances sweet, savory, and spicy flavors between its delicious crust, pepperoni, creamy ricotta, tomato sauce, mozzarella, fresh basil, and a lovely drizzle of hot honey. I enjoyed the pizza with a Ommegang Blueberry Falls that was a "Blueberry Kolsch" whose crisp and slightly sweet flavors balanced well against the spicy and savory I was noshing. The only downside was I found the service behind the bar to be a bit slow and distracting from conversations with other customers. I felt I was forgotten until I finally flagged for the check. But overall, the City Beer Hall was a solid experience highlighted by their hot honey pizza.

Back here after long hiatus. And the women's NCAA BASKETBALL finals is in town.

I enjoyed the different textures of it, some more cheesy and some more gravy. My wife enjoyed a chicken Caesar salad and my daughter enjoyed a grilled chicken pesto sandwich. Her sandwich was a nice enough portion that she finished it leftover for dinner! I enjoyed the buffalo lemon pepper wings, the sauce was a nice blend of heat and zesty flavor. I appreciated the amount of wings they served, some restaurants are going for "shrinkflation" but Illusive provides a full portion! We received quality and personable service throughout a delicious meal, we will gladly return!

My uncle recently passed and I was looking for a healthy alternative to send to my family so they didn't have to cook a meal. It was hard finding green juices and healthy food in the Athens area.
