Excellent food, not so pleasant atmosphere. We stopped at Liza's of Troy for breakfast in Feb 2025 based on good reviews and appealing food pics. The order was taken at the register and then brought to our table. The food tasted great and was served quickly! All the dishes had a beautiful presentation! Coffee was a French press and was really good! The place had no cream or sugar for the coffee. Also there were no salt and pepper shakers on any table. When I asked for some salt they gave me a plastic sauce cap with some salt on the bottom to take it with my fingers. It was quite weird. For some reason "Butternut Squash Bowl" had only one egg while all other breakfast items had two. Not sure why this one was special. The real problem however was the smell. The very first impression we got upon entering was a strong smell of fried bacon and other foods. It was like standing next to a stove because the space is fully open, with no divider between the sitting area and the kitchen. In such a setup you need a strong hood exhaust but that in turn would make a lot of noise. Anyway, instead of taking our time enjoying the breakfast and great coffee we had to finish it asap and escape to prevent our jackets absorbing the smell :( We are giving Liza's of Troy 4 stars is it got 5+ on the food and coffee and 3 on the interior and atmosphere. Food ordered Butternut Squash Bowl - excellent and nicely presented. Had to order additional egg though. Breakfast Bowl - excellent and nicely presented. Liza's is one of my favorite places for lunch! The meals are created or put together when you order...no premade sandwiches waiting in a display case. And food is tasty and delicious, and the combinations are creative and flavorful...the presentation is perfect! And the bread is yummy! The veggies like avocado, squash, and kale are fresh and yeah, healthy. The coffee is great, even the decaf. The staff including Liza (This is a woman-owned and run business.) are friendly and the service is fast. The place is clean, and I love the local crafts and items for sale at the entrance. The atmosphere is relaxing and unassuming. You can't go wrong so give Liza's a try, and like me, you just might put it on your list of favorites! read more

We usually have good meals here. We stopped by today with our daughter during the farmers market to get her a smoothie. I got the "wild and nutty" and we purchased her a PB&J. The PB&J smoothie was thick and delicious but the Wild and Nutty was absolutely terrible! Tasted like nut milk. No sweetness (supposedly had dates and banana so we were thinking it would be somewhat sweet), thin like milk, not creamy at all. We would have said something but there was a line and it took a good 10 minutes to get the first smoothies, so we threw it away and left ($12 smoothie plus a $4 tip). We will try again but please revise this recipe or teach all of the staff how to make a proper smoothie! read more

Honestly the only thing I'd take off a star for (& obviously didn't) is not having baked goods. I've never, ever been able to order anything off the menu yet still get eggs because there's only vegan restaurants that don't have dairy. Lovely place, nice and clean. Delicious food and made fresh to order using delectable ingredients. The blt had the best tasting bacon and what looked like heirloom tomatoes. My kale with yams and roasted broccoli and runny eggs was outstanding. I will return, no doubt. Just make me a muffin next time, ok? (And install a bathroom) read more

We were passing through Albany for a quick overnight trip, and we are so glad we stopped at Liza's for breakfast in the morning. For the high quality ingredients and delicious food I think the prices are phenomenal. The Big Betty sandwich is delicious, the waffles are delicious, and the coffee is extremely good. My wife got a Fat 4 Fuel coffee, and rather than getting the jitters like she normally does after coffee, the healthy fats in there really helped her enjoy without feeling overstimulated. My kiddos and I eat gluten free for preference, and my wife due to allergy, and this was the best spot to find. Thanks to the great staff for a great vibe, food and service. PS. They have beautiful greenery and some awesome pottery for sale at incredible prices. read more

On the Sunday before Memorial Day, my husband & I decided to try Liza's for breakfast. You're suppose to order and pay at the counter before you can sit down to eat, but the server didn't tell us that until we were already seated for several minutes. That was annoying. The same thing happened to the couple that came in after us. It would have been much more welcoming if we were greeted by staff as we entered and had the ordering process explained to us in just a sentence or two. Some signage might have helped, too. This place is short on hospitality. I ordered the Breakfast Bowl which had avocados, two eggs, sweet potato and kale. Liza's is a health food restaurant and the meal seemed healthy. It was also looked great. Unfortunately, the roasted sweet potato at the bottom was dried out. The coffee, which was made from a press, tasted good at first. I had mine with almond milk. But about 2/3 of the way down it became gritty and undrinkable. Someone needs to tell the barista not to pour the grinds into the cup along with the coffee. My husband's complaints were far worse, because he likes his coffee hot and it wasn't. He ordered the Breakfast Hash with eggs over easy and was disappointed because the eggs were sunny side up and the potatoes/ home fries were so dried out, they were inedible. I tried his food. He was right. The potatoes didn't appear to be freshly made. Like cardboard. Liza's is largely about first impressions. From a distance, the place looks inviting with its glass windows and plants. The breakfast bowls look attractive, too. I actually enjoyed some of my meal. But there was a problem in the details. The potatoes/ sweet potatoes at the bottom of the bowls were awful. When you got down to the coffee--mine got worse with each sip--and I know good coffee. It wasn't cheap either. The entire bill was about $35 and we gave a $5 tip. Being a gardener, the plants in the front window should have been my tip off. After admiring the restaurant from a distance, I noticed two pots of assorted succulent plants in the front window were dying. Please water them. There's no reason for them to die from neglect. I realize it was a holiday weekend and there might be new staff working. With better training and some more attention to details, Liza's could have been fabulous. read more

Liza's is tasty and the staff is great. We sat outside and we were swarmed with yellow jackets once our food came. We moved inside to avoid the yellow jackets. I still ended up getting stung during the course of our meal. It was incredibly painful and shocking. A staff member was very kind and helpful, but let us know that this had been an ongoing problem and that the landlord had yet to do anything about it, despite the fact that this has happened a few times before. When we were leaving, I saw a young family with a baby sitting at the table where we had been swarmed with yellow jackets. They of course, got up and left immediately when I gave them the heads up. I do not like leaving bad reviews, but thinking about that poor baby getting stung, or someone who may actually be severely allergic while the landlord and staff all know this is a problem is quite concerning to me. read more

Liza's however has impressed me on all fronts and you will now be seeing me here many times a week. their smoothies are solid, their fall breakfast options are to die for! the ambiance is cozy warm and perfect, they also have local small shop products to browse and buy. it's rly my ideal store. service was fast and friendly for pickup over the phone. Just went to Liza's for the first time after moving to the area. WOW!!! This place is an answer to my dreams. The service and ambiance is wonderful and welcoming, and the food choices are far above and beyond what I expected to find. Having dairy free and gluten free establishment is perfect for me with my variety of food intolerances. Breakfast bowl (with added bacon) was superb and even had cashew cheese, which is my favorite. I have frequented Liza's several times over the years (my family very often who live local!) and love it! I'm dairy and gluten free so it's so nice to be able to just order without concern! Yesterday my husband and I dropped $50 on breakfast for ourselves and family and we were SO bummed. Maybe an off day? But want to give feedback to the establishment since they are usually so on point! We ordered pickup to which there was a wait of an hour (which is fine). We ordered I love you berry much waffles, breakfast hash, egg sandwich, and blueberry smoothie. The waffles were so dry, no syrup and there was a floral perfume taste, I went back to the menu and it doesn't say anything about adding ingredients that would cause that (I'm thinking rose water or something like that?). My husband was not happy to say the least. My smoothie was literally blueberry water and not very cold. The egg sandwich and hash were reported as just okay, bland. Walking in you feel like you stepped into Joanna Gaines fixer upper, it's beautiful and relaxing. Pros: decent sized menu with many options, healthy items, unique ingredients, good portion sizes, nice outdoor seating, friendly staff. Cons: I came here looking for a pitaya bowl, but they only had açaí. The blends can't be altered and if you're allergic to any fruit, it can't be omitted. It was good but wish I could customize more (it comes with strawberries, bananas, granola, and nut butter, granola and nut butter can be upgraded for an extra charge). There was a strawberry shortcake (strawberries, almond milk, maca, vanilla plant protein, cinnamon and dates) featured the day I popped in. From the plants to the lighting and decor, it all works together to allow you to feel that you're in an extremely relaxing and peaceful environment. Just moved to the area and looked up some healthy food options. The universe was definitely on my side because this place is a GEM! Serene ambiance and great energy carried the space as aromas of beautiful aromatics gave my nose hugs when I walked in. Sweet owner with a friendly staff and friendlier guests. I ordered food to go, as I was in a rush but the space felt like home. Food came out quick and fresh, made to order. The broccoli and cauliflower tacos were exceptional! Although I am not the biggest fan of what I am currently drinking, the atmosphere and selection of Liza's make me hopeful for a successful visit in the future. A coworker and I ventured out to get smoothies and she loves hers! I was weary and interested in the Green Monster, but wasn't sure if it would be too plant based or have any fruity flavor. I had asked the individual taking our order and she suggested the Just Peachy. Unless it was made wrong, it tastes nothing like the description and has a heavy coconut flavor (even though it says there is no coconut in the smoothie). The açaí bowls are the best in town. I had a breakfast hash thing there one time that was out of bounds also. Always have had a positive experience stopping in there. The woman who usually takes my order, I think she may be the owner, is very friendly and knowledgeable. So I heard about this place from a friend of mine, and she highly recommended. This morning I was in the area and decided to drop in, this is a comfy spot and service is fantastic. I ordered the Açaí tropical bowl which came with, almond butter, bananas, plain granola no coconut and they were out of strawberries no biggie. I got the 16oz and I honestly didn't think I would get filled up so quickly but I am. The bowl was so flavorful and refreshing and so worth it. I reviewed Liza's a year or two ago and feel so compelled to write another review because I am obsessed. I've had the Cinna-Bun smoothie probably 50+ times and it is so good. I've also had the kale pesto egg bagel, different waffles and pancakes, and Caveman balls. All very good. For last Christmas, we ordered breakfast boards as well, which were excellent. Delivery is prompt too. I am moving to the city this summer and will truly miss Liza's. For a celiac, it was a good find, as there isn't much like Liza's in the Capital District. read more

I didn't like the bowl at first, since it has a bit pineapple taste in it, but after a while I got addicted to it. Their food is fresh and inventive, and their tea selection is top notch, and local - that's important to me. I walked in this morning to see what was going on in the space between Peck's Arcade and little pecks. I ordered an acai bowl ($14.50), and I didn't really know what to expect. It was frickin' delicious, with crunchy granola, coconut, fresh fruit, and some almond butter. It's very filling but I don't feel heavy after eating it. No sugars are added to the acai bowl, which is made in front of you, so you know you're not ingesting crap. I was intrigued by the chocolate smoothie on the menu, so I would definitely come back to try it. I typically don't buy into eating just some foods (aka superfoods) purely for their health benefits, but I do like Liza's. read more
