First night in Albany brought us to Albany Ale and Oyster. Great food and beer here! Whenever there is a Main Brewing Company beer on tap anywhere I am sure to get it. They are an elite beer company. The tuna tartar was delicious and fresh, I really enjoyed it. The oysters on the east coast are always amazing. My wife loved the clam chowder, I tasted it and it was very flavorful. My partner treated me to lunch at Ale & Oyster. While I was excited to come, my expectations for the resto were not entirely met: -Our server ignored us for at least half an hour. Totally blown away by this restaurant. The service was casual but attentive, the staff dressed casually and the vibe very laid back but everything was on point. The menu is varied and offers something for everyone. I absolutely loved our first meal here and it was just appetizers. I can't wait to come back and try the Ruben and lobster bisque. The food is consistently good too. I had the Lobster Kimchi Reuben this time and it was quite delicious if messy. The sauce/dressing was a variation on Russian dressing and tasted delicious. Great food, great presentation, upscale atmosphere and friendly service. The knocked star was for a few minor reasons. The fries were over salted, like the saltiest fries I've ever had. Just have salt shakers. Water glasses are tiny requiring constant refills but with a packed bar that's difficult, and our food took a bit to get to us and it was literally just a burger and a sandwich. The staff was super friendly and mentioned they had new chefs and two big parties attending which slowed them down. I'm overall happy with my experience there, just minor hiccups. read more

I come here so often and it's my favorite spot to eat in Albany right now. The happy hour deals are great and all of the food is so delicious. You can really tell a lot of thought has gone into each dish. Every time I've been the food has been spectacular. The drinks taste great and the pours are very generous. The new location is so beautiful and the ambiance is great. The staff is wonderful. I can't think of a single thing i would change about this restaurant. It does get busy sometimes so you may have to wait to be seated but I've never had to wait more than ten minutes and I usually grab a drink at the bar while they get the table ready. read more

For my entree, I ordered the kimchi turkey Reuben. It wasn't on the drink menu but the bar made espresso martinis for my friend and I. The crab dip was great. Perfect balance of crab and cheese. The pretzel sticks were fine. They were satisfying but I wouldn't say they are a must order. I appreciated the freshness, flavor and portion size of the Reuben but the kimchi was too spicy for my palate. If you enjoy heat, that dish is for you. I tend to be more sensitive to spice so it very well might not be considered spicy to the average person. read more

I'm not usually an oyster person, but The Albany Ale & Oyster may have just changed that! We tried their oysters with cocktail sauce, champagne mignonette, and caviar. I especially loved the cocktail sauce--it was so flavorful and complemented the oysters perfectly. I didn't care much for the stuffed oysters but the ceviche was a standout--fresh and full of flavor. For drinks, my partner had the ODB and absolutely loved it, especially the blue cheese stuffed olives. They also had a nice selection of draft beers. I can't recall the name of the one I had, but it was exactly what I was craving. For mains, we went with the lobster roll and the Reuben. Both were just okay for me. The lobster roll felt a bit dry, and the Reuben didn't particularly stand out. I did love the tiny paper bag the chips came in--such a cute touch. The oysters and ceviche were definitely the highlights for me. We finished with the chocolate torte, and it was surprisingly good, especially for someone who doesn't typically go for torte hehe. I had to make a return trip to Albany Ale and Oyster after they moved to their new space in the same plaza. The new space is bright, modern, cozy and offers a beautiful bar, with an exclusive Oyster bar area with front row seating to all the action at the raw bar and wood fired oven. Excellent cocktail selection with great mixology. The ODB isn't just a dirty martini, it's olive oll washed gin, dolin dry, cracked black pepper, castelvetrano brine and blue cheese stuffed olives, and it's perfection. All of their cocktails are unique and well crafted. I have had a lot of the menu so far but I really wanted to try the disco chips and WOW. They were perfection on a plate. House fried thick cut chips (more like fries) seasoned with salt and vinegar, topped with this delicious dill crème fresh sauce and rainbow trout roe. And, Sundays are $1 oysters so you know I had to. The Fish Filet, Best Reuben, Kimchi lobster Reuben, lobster roll, burger, entrees, appetizers, everything I have had has been amazing. Love the option to try them in different pour sizes as well including the option to create a flight. Sunday is a favorite day to visit for $1 oysters - a perfect way to try them out especially if you're new to them. Otherwise the crab dip is another great starter. Everything I've had here has been delicious, but I cannot recommend their burger enough. It's in my opinion one of the best burgers in the capital region. They have a happy hour on weekdays from 3-5 pm featuring $25 dollar lobster rolls, cheaper apps such as pretzels and drink specials. This is a great time to try more expensive items! We ordered: Chicken Schnitzel ($18) is breaded and fried cutlet over lemon caper aioli with citrus herb Caesar salad, and white anchovy. Kimchi Lobster Reuben ($ ) included chunks of lobster, kimchi, gruyere and sriracha Russian dressing on grilled marble rye. This was surprisingly very good! There was a decent amount of lobster meat. Never thought lobster, kimchi, and cheese would make a good combo. Scallop Crudo ($14) includes wild bay scallops, pickled rhubarb, jalapeno, tarragon, and herb oil. Unfortunately, we did not like this dish. It was rough, did not taste like scallop at all, and it was plain. We ordered 2 of every oyster. Probably one of the best cutlets I've ever had. I ordered it, not knowing how well-made it was going to be. It was a thin slice of chicken, but the batter was thin and seasoned to balance well with the content. The meat was tender, and it was well heated. We were sat in the back room all by ourselves which was actually perfect because we had a baby with us who was eating in a restaurant for the first time :). This review is overdue. My daughter and I met for lunch before the start of Spring. It was unseasonably warm--over 60 degrees--she was hoping to find outside dining. We checked a few places. No luck. We wound up at Ale & Oyster. Still no luck. However, Ale & Oyster is her favorite restaurant. So she gave up her pursuit of out-of-season outdoor dining and settled into a seat indoors. It turned out that her request did not fall on deaf ears. The hostess came back minutes later to tell us that the owner reconsidered my daughter's request and decided to grant her wish. Several turquoise colored tables and chairs were set up outside within minutes. We happily sat down outside and prepared to place our order. An older couple came along moments later and sat down near us. So did a dad pushing a baby carriage carrying the cutest infant girl. Within 20 minutes, all five or six outdoor tables were filled up. I know my daughter and I shared everything we ordered and declared the meal to be wonderful. It looks like we had Oysters Rockefeller, cioppino and a kale Caesar salad. The meal was even better in the bright sunshine. The mild weather put everyone in a good mood and the dad with the baby even struck up a conversation with us. Afterwards, I thanked the hostess and server as we left. Even though it might have been an inconvenience for the staff to set up the outdoor tables and chairs, I really appreciated that they and the owner listened to our request and agreed to make it happen. If you haven't been- go! Friendly staff, accommodating (as best as possible) of my 2 1/2 year old twins, and awesome food! On street parking, but thankfully we found one right by the front door. Seating was a little tight with the twins having to share a small section of the table end with both of the high chairs, but we made it works. Went here with my mother and my twins for a quick lunch and there was something on the menu for everyone. My Mom had the tomato soup, that she said was delicious. The twins had grilled cheese and fries, which they of course loved!! But they also enjoyed sharing my cup of clam chowder that was AMAZING!!! And I also had the chicken cutlet, which had a little too much sauce underneath it making parts of the cutlet soggy, but other than that delicious! Wonderful meal!
