She was all tired after getting pampered

One of the best places I've ever taken my frenchie to get groomed ! She usually hates the groomers but she tried to run back in after heading back and was so happy throughout the process. 10/10 reccomend, extremely caring and patient staff.

I've been going to Newport Paws for a couple years now. Kaitlyn is always so thorough and always does an incredible job. My dogs breathe even comes back better which my wife really appreciates. Kaitlyn will always call and let me know 15 minutes before she's ready to be picked up, making the best usage of my time. No other groomer has done this before and it's something I truly appreciate. I had used Samantha, the previous owner of Newport Paws, exclusively with my 2 doodles and loved her. She recommended this wonderful couple who now own Newport Paws, and wow, he came out looking fabulous. I get really anxious dropping off my big fur baby to get groomed, but everyone there was friendly and put my mind at ease. They trimmed my big (72lb) goofy Goldendoodle Tex beautifully. I was especially impressed with how they trimmed his face, his eyes and nose area were exactly what I was hoping for. read more

They did a 1.5" cut all around with a little more off the belly! 5/5 and will be using them going forward. Sam is a great groomer! She is so patient and good with my dog. We love coming here and I love how they don't lock the dogs up in cages like a lot of the other groomers we tried out in Newport/costa Mesa. This is the only place we haven't taken Winnie where she isn't shaking when we walk in :) read more

After adopting an 11 week old male Maltipoo, I was looking for a good groomer. When I was walking my puppy, I saw a cute puppy with an amazing "puppy cut" , so I asked her who did the grooming. She raved about Samantha and her business, Newport Paws. I made an appointment the following month. Samantha was wonderful, she listened to what I wanted and after one hour, my puppy looked fantastic! Better than I could have ever imagined. She's my groomer for life and I recommend her to every dog owner I meet. read more

My 2nd review for Newport Paws and deservedly so. If you live in the Balboa Village area or even Newport, it's worth the drive, Newport Paws is a stress free dog groomer experience. I have a soft coated Wheaton terrier and Samantha, the owner, does a fantastic job. Believe me, I have tried a number of groomers in the Newport area and each time my dog is retuned to me she is completely stressed and looks unrecognizable. Samantha, clearly loves dogs and more importantly she does not schedule appointments on top of each other. Too many times I have made a specific appointment and will not see my dog for several hours later, all that time being locked in a crate. That does not happen at Newport Paws. It's a complete stress free experience. read more

The two staff who I think co-own paw spa now are really wonderful with the dogs and they're incredibly kind and soft handed. Their energy is just so beautiful & trustworthy. Before one of my dogs used to cry when I would take her there. However, after this most recent change in stewardship, my dog does not cry whatsoever she tail wags. She came back so happy! All three of my dogs came back stunningly fresh clean, happy bright eyed and bushy tailed and I feel very fortunate that they are so kind, accommodating thoughtful. They are expeditious with the work I think they do 4 hands working at one time. So that they can subject the pup to as little fussing with as possible. While just as much if not more attention to detail. Every hair is tended to. No exaggeration. If there's any fees unplanned that require discussion, they will call you during the grooming session and actually ask you. Hey we noticed this or that would you like us to XY or Z? And the extra associated cost will be this for Y and this for Z. How transparent in their pricing and reasonable accommodation is really refreshing. Particularly in a business you don't want to feel taking advantage of its great to have the trust and to feel respected, and you feel your animals are in superior hands. I also noticed these grooms have been the most long lasting work of cleanliness and just a complete change in the nature of the coat in a way that it's so much healthier and less shedding all over the house. The dogs are so much cleaner so much happier for the dogs that required a little bit of dematting due to their thick coats, they those two were a little puffy and adorably blown out the first two days. If you have heavy coated dogs like mine (Pekingese), you need to bring your dogs here. Have them de matted. And bathed etc. They will come home poofy. That's a great sign. Then just wait. Let the hair sit and settle. Your jaw will drop to the floor. The hair is perfect and remains that way. For months. Having the experience of groomed dogs now I realize a groomed dog should leave looking floofy and a little moppet on day one, two and three. If they've truly been cleaned and their hair has been properly groomed. Because then day 4 it's perfect and it's that way for months to come. Not just a week of looking nice. I learned so much from seeing the differences. They just look like they got touched by the hand of light and beauty and love. And as if they were groomed fresh today. So that's the difference. Before their partnership, my dogs looked great for about 5 days. At a week they were dirty again. Or seemed so. Now when we pick them up it's they look floofy and preciously clean and every hair tended. Then after the floof sets oh my word what perfect hair and skin they've had since. The thing I also noticed about these new talented partners whose work is worth every CENT. Don't go anywhere else. Even though I don't like to give out my favorite secret places. This is truly my favorite secret. And I'm sharing because this is life changing work. If you want your dog to be clean for 2 months+ per groom, go here. If you're tired of weekly or biweekly grooming. And want a groom that lasts go here. You'll believe it when you see it.

The haircut was decent and the experience was okay, which is why I decided to come back with all three of my dogs. Looking back, that was a mistake. I scheduled appointments and clearly discussed haircuts for all three dogs. They kept my dogs for over three hours, and when I picked them up, it was obvious that almost nothing had been done. No haircut. No proper grooming. No bath. It looked like they had simply been brushed and sent back out. After wasting hours of my day and leaving my dogs there, I received essentially no service. Then came the best part: they expected me to pay around $100 per dog anyway. Let me be clear--the money is not the problem. The problem is expecting customers to pay hundreds of dollars for services that were never provided. Why would anyone pay for a haircut that never happened? To make things even worse, over a month later the owner called me demanding money and threatening legal action. Instead of taking responsibility for the fact that nothing was done, she chose to act aggressively and try to intimidate me. If that is how customer complaints are handled, it's no wonder people leave upset. This business seems far more concerned about collecting money than actually delivering the services customers are paying for. The lack of professionalism, accountability, communication, and customer service is unbelievable. I gave this place a second chance because my first visit was decent. After this experience, there won't be a third chance. I will never bring my dogs back here again. If you care about your pets, your time, and your money, I strongly recommend finding another groomer. There are plenty of businesses that actually do the work before demanding payment for it.

We brought him in at 13 weeks to the EveryPup Program, where he is in a clean and disinfected facility with other safe and healthy pups and he gets training every day by Dave. Almost from day 1 we started noticing huge changes, and he matured so rapidly it's like we have a different dog! He is very calm, polite and attentive, and has been able to self-regulate so well. Dave is always available for our questions and follow ups, and he sends over progress notes and photos every day from training sessions. We also would ask him about problem behavior such as counter surfing or jumping up on people to greet, and Dave would target those specific behaviors as well. We also appreciated how fast and quickly they acted on our puppy swallowing something he shouldn't have, and immediately gave him some hydrogen peroxide to get him to throw it up, which saved us from extremely expensive and likely traumatic vet visits and possible surgery. Very grateful! Every day we pick up our puppy he is so happy from a day of playing and getting love from all the staff, and is tired and ready for some cuddles and naps when he gets home. The staff here are so caring and really love each dog, I trust them to take care of our puppy. Highly recommend!

However, that turned out NOT to be the case at all! We were pleasantly surprised to discover that they are reasonably priced across the board - grooming, vaccines, exams, surgery and boarding! Not only that, Dr. Andrew Yacoub is EVERYTHING we were looking for in a vet for our toy poodle puppy's care. He is by far the most informed vet we have ever worked with, from vaccines to surgery. My husband & I are fully convinced that it would be next to impossible to find a more competent and compassionate vet, who truly cares about his pet patients and their owners. We learned that Dr. Andrew even purchases smaller needles for the vaccines, so pets don't feel what could be painful. His calm demeanor, along with his caring assistants, make for a perfect setting for what could sometimes prove to be an unpleasant visit. To top it off, Dr Andrew is a good listener and a good communicator. He is collaborative in his approach and respects our wishes. Everyone in the office has been welcoming, polite and efficient, which is often hard to come by these days. If you're looking for a most excellent vet, give Dr. Andrew a call. He noticed my dog was just having fun running AROUND the pool, but wouldn't try and swim, just splash on the shallow part. So he would go and get him and baby-step him into the deep side. They even reached out shortly after dropping Duchess off to provide me with picture updates, reassuring me that she was safe and sound and having fun. He got two ear infections, paws red itchy, and bloody. He seemed traumatized and very ill. I took him to the vet and they had put him on antibiotics, they gave him steroids and allergy shots and it's still 16 days after and his paws are not healed and my puppy is getting worse and lots and lots of vet bills. It is worth it to pay for a dog sitter.

I have groomed our goldendoodle myself over the last two years because I've always been so scared that a groomer will make him look like a poodle. I haven't seen a lot of goldendoodle cuts done professionally that I liked. We ran out of time last week and our pup needed a haircut bad! We tried Newport Paws out of desperation thinking "it will grow back." My fiancé came home with the most adorable teddy bear. The haircut was perfect! He had few mats that were completely removed, and I've never seen his hair so soft! Definitely try this place - if you live on the peninsula you shouldn't go anywhere else! We LOVE Riley!…read more She's not just a "dog walker", she actually understands more about dog psychology than most dog trainers! Our dog Nellie is a foster with a nervous personality, she's not your average easy going pup. It's hard to trust anyone with her because it takes a different level of skill and she could bite another dog if put in the wrong situation. When we met Riley it was the biggest relief, she was so up for the challenge. She even worked with our dog's current trainer on her own time to learn more about what Nellie (and other dogs) needed to be successful - how amazing! She uses a great app when walking so you get an email once the walk is completed showing where they went, if your dog pooped/peed and sometimes even a cute photo that will make you smile! We have no worries when we're gone that Riley has everything under control. She is one of the few people we trust with our pup :)

Beware of boarding your dog here! First we were told by the owner (Riley is not the owner anymore)…read morethat we were not allowed to come to the "boarding area" because they promoted pick ups only. I thought that was odd because who would not want to see the boarding facility first. They do NOT offer a 24/7 live cam which also led me to not trust them. I later talked to an employee van driver and he told me and my husband the dogs are kept in the garage in kennels, the bigger dogs are kept in the van in the garage with no air or ventilation AND-where it is dark. We were appalled and horrified. We called the Newport Beach Animal Control and found out Island Pooch doesn't even have a boarding license. Please do your research before you use ANY animal boarding. Island Pooch is definitely untrustworthy and does not care for animals if this is how they are boarding them.
