Let me say unequivocally that the staff here are sensational but this review is with regard to the physical structure. The garron's should get a refund. The design of this place is ludicrous. You can barely use the toilet because the tp dispenser is so large and placed beside the toilets you have to hunch over. They couldn't put it on the empty wall in front? But the stupidest thing are the light switches. It took me half an hour before I had to bother a nurse over a stupid design flaw. There is a 3 foot by 10 inch post in the middle of the room. Electrical plugs, hospital gear etc. Fine. But the light switches are on the back of the post. Try turning out the lights and then negotiating in the dark back to you bed. Absolutely ridiculous. The engineer or architect should find a different career. Nothing like making a difficult time worse. read more

I'm not going to get too much into patient care. The hospital lacks basic cleanliness (open drywall damage, improper cleaning of floors, sinks and tubs). The hospital does not offer many basics that other hospitals offer. Wifi, access to the internet. In the birthing center, they overtly say they do not support the mothers birthing partner. No bed, no couch, no chair. There is a bench, but it is in such poor shape and lacks cleanliness. Also, no pillow or blanket for the birthing partner. Furniture in the room is extremely dangerous for anyone holding a baby. One Chair broke to pieces when sat in (weight jokes aside, she was 180 lbs maybe). The second chair in the room, was in similar shape. House keeping will not clean your room. They come at 3am to empty garbages only. Once they woke us up to comment on our garbage after it wasn't changed in 24 hours. This is a teaching hospital, which seems to translate to: focus on the teaching, look what's happening with the patient. The care was good, don't get me wrong. But we were made to felt like if we tried to make my wife's care a first priority we would pay later. The induction facilities are horrible in comparison to other hospitals in the province. You have to pay for supplies for your care, while in care. Your have to pay for diapers while in care. Family and friends are not able to even sit in the waiting room prior to an after hours birth. (Our biggest gripe) At the end of our stay, we received a package asking us if we were a grateful patient (read: give us a donation). No we were not grateful. We did what we had to to get through their issues and enjoy the birth of our son. I fully support the removal of their board of directors. They provide very poor direction. read more

ER department is one of the most unorganized and understaffed in the city. I waited over 10 hours before they would even consider admitting me. And they only admitted me after I insisted I would be in too much lain at home (ER doc said I should go home and just take Tylenol since they didn't really know what was causing my illness). I ended up being admitted to the hospital for an additional 4 days after that. Way to go ER, I clearly was more sick than you bothered to check. They're so unorganized. I was waiting for tests to be done, and they had assumed they were done so I was sit waiting for nothing to happen, only until a nurse noticed like 2 hours later. They didn't seem to communicate between the staff. Porters at this hospital are very understaffed. Left behind at various departments waiting to be transferred to my room for 45 mins at a time. Or they'd take me somewhere I didn't need to go. And it happened to various other patients I talked to. WOULD NOT suggest coming here for the ER. Go to a bigger hospital instead. read more

My family and I have a long history with this Hospital and it has been good to us. My Father and two Grandparents passed away here so I have collectively spent weeks of my life here. I have received care here for myself as well. This is an old Hospital with a rich history. This is great but the older wings are cramped and struggle to find space for the large amount of equipment modern healthcare requires. Luckily the hall ways are just wide enough to accommodate most of the equipment and still get a bed through. This Hospital is getting better all the time though as old wings are being renovated and an entirely new wing is being built currently. There is enough restaurants to keep everyone fed and there are some really great places to relax especially on the 5th floor of G wing where there are activities, sitting areas and gardens with an amazing view. The staff here are amazing and the care my father received here was truly touching. They really worked hard to ensure my father's last few weeks were comfortable and ensured all his wishes were respected. This is a fine Hospital even though I don't look forward to my next visit. read more

I had my baby at this hospital and I must say that this is the worse hospital ever! Being a first time mom, the nurses should be telling/showing me everything. From wrapping the baby in the swaddle to burping to changing his diapers. But no, right after my baby was born, I was left to breastfeed him myself. No one came to check on us. After calling them several times, the nurse showed up, spent literally 2 mins with me and left. She never came back to see if he was feeding ok. The paediatrian came 24hrs later to check my baby. You are not informed of what is going on. They don't even deserve 1 star!! My sister had her kids at St Mike's and that's the hospital to go to. The nurses are always checking the baby n the mom to make sure ever is ok. I regret my decision to have chosen Michael Garron. Don't make the mistake to go to this hospital to deliver, that's my advice to all soon to be moms. read more

Had an apt today with the Gastro dept. 6th floor. Registration was smooth and quick. The nurses and reception lady upstairs were really nice and the best part, appointment tome was honoured. We started at 9:30am. I had the procedure and "recovered" by 10:10 am. read more

Terrible hospital. Very disorganized. If you can choose a different hospital I would. My wife took our baby into the hospital because she had a cold. Our paediatrician convinced her she should take her to emerg to have her blood tested in case it was infected. Despite the fact she didn't have a fever. The hospital then went about doing the tests, even though they said they wouldn't have even done the tests if the paediatrician didn't ask for it because she looked great. They also told my wife she would be able to go home after the urine test was taken, and they would call with the results. They then do a 180 on her and say because the baby is so young (her age was still before her due date because she was born early) that you have to stay for 24 hours of observation and until the blood culture and urine culture gets back. Fast forward over 24 hours later. Still waiting and haven't heard back about the cultures. The only thing we do know is that the urine culture was submitted the next morning so it will probably take another half day or longer for them to release them from the hospital. All of this for sniffles and no fever. If you get this kind of care for some sniffles, I dare to think what kind of care you would get if your life was actually threatened. Even though we live near this hospital, we had our baby at Sunnybrook for good reason. If only Sunnybrook had a paediatrics wing! read more

The wait is currently 4-6 hours for ER, I was thinking of leaving and the ER nurse smiled and said it was up to me. Lack of staff and patient care is clear. Another patient said Michael Garron is a low rated hospital and downtown hospitals are more efficiently run. I wouldn't recommend Michael Garron's ER. read more

Monday August 2017 I went Michael Garon hospital As the toe was smelling really bad and I had a major issue with it. They sent me home from the emergency room with no treatment. As a result by that Saturday it had turned really bad and had to be amputated . I After reading my medical discharge papers after surgery. It turns out that when I went to east york hospital on the Monday night I already had gangrene in my system and was septic. How the hell does an emergency room doctor send me home with out doing any test . Plus with the smell that was coming from my foot. read more

My father recently passed away at this hospital. He was admitted fully alert and within days declined. He was given a blood transfusion where too much blood was given. Within days my father's lungs started building up with fluid and he suffered a suffocation death. Beware of this hospital. read more

I was there for my 1 year old daughter yesterday. She had woken up around 1130 PM and her face was swollen. We rushed her to this so called hospital and thats when I found out how unprofessional this hospital is. We were in emergency and were told we had alittle bit of a wait after seeing the nurse. we were told me could either just go home or wait in the waiting room. My daughter at this point was SCREAMING and the hospital was freezing. In the waiting room we saw a man that was maybe 70 years old and was coughing blood into a rag, and they kept telling him he had to wait... just like everyone else. To shield my daughter from either sickness or just plain terror ( dont get me wrong, its not the elderly mans fault, that sould have been priority and should have been taken in to see someone right away) I walked out of the waiting room and found a bed. I didnt even ask at this point but my daughter was screaming and I needed to lay her down. HOURS went by and I asked what place in line we had. 8th. Not too bad, she said the doctor was moving quick. Come to find out there was ONE DOCTOR doing all patients in two areas of emergency and taking about 20 minutes each to chart the patients and talk loudly on his cell phone. My husband and I finally put my daughter to sleep and her swelling had went down a bit. we fell asleep. I wake up an hour and a half later and ask again " what place are we" 6th. I ask her " so in almost two hours hes done 2 people?" She and her coworker both look at me ( one of them too busy on facebook to really care whats going on) and say hes reassessing people. Two people an hour? okay. Wait a few minutes to find the doctor talking to another staff member about boats. this goes on for about ten minutes before he heads back to the computer for another 30 mins. He sees a man that is clearly drunk asking for percocet. gives the man eveything he saked for, including the 3 Valium he needed to " get by" ( oh yeah the doctor has all conversations with all patients in the waiting areas) FINALLY we see our doctor at 6am( a little more than 6 hours for an 18 month old with a swollen face) the swelling has gone down, with just her her eyelid purple and swollen. The makes a joke that all we had to do was come hang out at emerge for her to feel better. then tells me to get me to get her attention from different sides of the room so he could sees the whites of her eyes. I stand in the right side of the room so she would shift her eyes, but from pure exhastion she doesnt respond. So the doctor tells me " oh well shes not looking, you must not be that interesting" i understand this may be a joke, but 6 hours later we are not friends like that. He tells us its not not that serious but if we get pink eye she has pink eye. AFTER 6 HOURS, I brought my daughter to her family doctor and shes very ill, and not what the doctor at this hospital said AT ALL. If you dont want to waste your time, go to another hospital. read more

They misrepresent themselves, they deceive patients to make their job easier and save their hide, they disregard patients' requests to ease pain and suffering. Mismanagement starts at the top and trickles down to the last staff. Experience in that place, except for one or two decent Doctors, is a place to be avoided at all costs. read more

Doctor's name is T. Klosk. Or something similar. Avoid this terrible person if you can. I had never been to the emergency department at the hospital as a patient because of the bad reputation I heard rumors about in the past, but as it is the closest one to my house, I thought I would try as I was in too much pain to go downtown.....big mistake. The front end staff were lovely and helpful. I wish I knew the name of the gentleman at the front desk for screening and then again at the registration desk; he was wonderful. After waiting a few hours to see a doctor, the doctor was arrogant, condescending and wouldn't listen to me, the patient. He seemed to have decided before meeting me how he would address my back pain issue. He rudely asked why I attended at the hospital that day and said, there is nothing that can be done for back pain. I asked if he could refer me to a physio therapist or if I could see one at the hospital. I asked if he could send me for imaging of my back to see if there was a underlying condition causing the pain. I asked if he could give me an injection to eliminate the intolerable pain that was making me almost delirious. He was argumentative, abusive and just plain mean. He told me to walk on my toes and heels and when I told him I couldn't (as I was struggling just to stand up), he addressed me as if I was being difficult. This doctor needs empathy training and customer service skills. We attend at the hospital because we are looking for answers, comforting and pain relief. We do not need doctors who add to our pain and ensure we won't ever seek out medical service at that facility ever again. read more

Having been hit by a truck, literally, I was brought in by ambulance. I had hit my head and had a neck brace placed on by the paramedics, torn my elbow open, bruised my hip arm and hand. I sat for 4 hours in ER, in pain, bruised, arm and hand swelling and at the 2hour mark, I saw one nurse who asked me what happened and said I'd see the doctor. That was it. Beyond that, I sat and watched the ER team hug each other, high-five each other - you name it. Reams of people came and went with minor sprains, a rash - a covid test, you name it. But I sat there, with bruises, swollen, headache, and was told after 4 hours, that I was 10th on the list - so it would likely be another 2 hours. I'd like to think ER is for when you're hit by a truck and injured, but apparently not. They seem to have difficulty determining what's an emergency and what's general care. Will send this to the Ministry of Health. Disgusting. read more

Went into the Emergency department late yesterday and told them I have a active bleeding ulcer and was told to have a seat and wait plus was yelled at for not having my prescription with me. Sorry I had a accident at work and was too busy being rushed to the ER. This was around 11 pm I was dumbfounded you have people with toothaches and minor sprains getting fast tracked before people like myself and others. Long story short after throwing up some more blood and being brought my medicine from home and a few hours more I seen a doctor and I use that term loosely. All he did was check my vitals and said go home after I told him my stomach felt ill. His response to that was chew a few tums or antacids and get some sleep and to cut stress out of my life. Seriously how does someone avoid stress? We all face it at some point. read more

So. My first visit! We have driven past many times and identified a few routes to our NEW closest hospital, East General. I have severe allergies as well as asthma, so it's always imperative that we have plans for any situation, including driving to the closest emergency treatment location. Turns out, our first visit is transported by ambulance, not car! I have to say, this is the best GTA emerg I have had the honour of visiting. And I've been to four. This one is miles above! I have waited 6+ hours in Ontario to see an emerg doctor... we waited just over 90 minutes! AMAZING!!! Sunnybrook is definitely my fave for surgery (a.ka. gall bladder removal), Princess Margaret definitely the pick for cancer treatment, TGH for most mental illness and depression/anxiety cases, Mount Sinai for upscale emerg and rare illnesses... I HATE St. Mike's, which happens to be the one I've visited most often in emerg... ick. Inner city yuckiness... guns and police escorts with most people waiting to be seen... avoid at all costs! Glad we moved. We arrived at East General (by ambulance) this past Friday night at around 2 a.m., me in anaphylactic shock and Mr. Rosie S. in advanced panic mode. Stretcher delivery with oxygen tubes, monitor hook-up and all. Mr. handled all the administrative stuff, which was completely smooth - the staff were amazingly helpful and kind, especially given how upset he was! The EMS team was amazing, and I feel bad that they had to wait around... but they were awesome. They calmed me down and made me feel better about the embarrassing situation! Mr. Rosie S. also has such a good sense of humour - he got along with everyone famously. We had to deploy our own auto-injector, and the second dose was given incorrectly, and the doctor was amazing at explaining the FULL and detailed instructions to us. One thing: Mr. Rosie S. (henceforth "D") was approached by another patients in the waiting area, who had seen his stack of bills. Mr. Rosie S. didn't know exactly how much we would have to pay for, so he had a sizable wad of cash. This creepy patient tried to proposition him, but D doesn't really remember what he said... it was clearly about the cash. D (manly man that he is) said something threatening though, and the guy backed off. Still something to be aware of... :) They gave me more shots of Benadryl and adrenaline, observed me for four hours, then let us go. YAY! Cheated death once more. read more

REALLY surprised about the rating on here. Simply the worst hospital. Ever. Hurt my knee playing sports, waited 2 weeks to get an appointment after getting some X-Ray that I didn't need, saw this doctor who asked me to "drop the crutches" and come back in 6 weeks after doing some stretches. No MRI, no nothing (even tho the people who did the X-Ray recommended it) Ended up going back home (in Belgium) where it turns out the knee is fucked up, medial and lateral meniscus damaged, as well as joint swelling and a lot more things that I don't know how to translate from french, but the word "severe" is in there a couple of times. So now, about 4 months after the injury happened, I now learn I'm going to need surgery, splints and PT, all because the doctor decided after checking my knee for half a minute that it wasn't anything serious. read more

My tonsillectomy was here in September 2018. I found the directions and signage to not be great within the building. The nurses, doctors and other staff were all wonderful. It was clear the day surgeries move like a well oiled machine. The time they say to get there was hours earlier than I felt necessary (sat around in hospital gown long before getting IV even). Bring book , iPad, headphones etc. for entertainment. Staff were great in surgery room after surgery and with surgeon out of room when I couldn't breathe and panicked. Recovery room was busy and boring of a wait but the nurses were kind. They let me use the phone near my bed and when my mother couldn't be tracked down. They also sent someone to try to find my mother. Was given popsicle and escorted when needed to washroom. read more

Unfortunately my visits are limited primarily to the emergency department, for professional reasons which I won't disclose. Therefore this review is about the Emerg Dept primarily. This hospital is a pass, and not anything to terribly fancy as far as hospitals go. Some hospitals to a name a few (North York, Sunnybrooke, Mt Sinai, Sick Kids) have a much better layout and are more modern. Their emergency department was recently renovated in recent years, primarily in the triage area. It is clean, bright, efficient and generally gives off a sensation of warmth. You'll have to first check in with a clerk providing some screening info (travel, fever, cough - basically contagious disease screening) prior to seeing the nurse. Staff are generally friendly, although you might have to wait to get seen by triage (unless you're dying). Overall the department is pretty good. This is dependent of course on your personal opinion of how you feel your treatment goes. Generally the staff are really pleasant, but most definitely competent which is really the only thing that matters. This is a teaching hospital, related to U of T. The main entrance to emerg is off of Mortimer, for paramedics and their patients as well as emerg patients and patrons. There is no access to the rest of the hospital through the emerg entrance, and the public might see this as being the public entrance. Beware! What would also be nice to see is 24 hour access to food and Java. East Gen does have a Tim Hortons, that is only open until 11 I believe, but I don't believe it's 24 hours. There is also a Subway open also until 11 I believe, a mini cafe, pizza shop, and gift shop. You'll probably get access to these areas if you ask the clerk while visiting family (if you're in emerg). Getting to the rest of the hospital; its old, but appears functional as I'm sure the MOH ensures this. Overall a decent hospital just not very modern, and has some architectural challenges and short-comings. read more

The hospital staff did an excellent job of caring for my friend, who had got one of the Covid variants despite both of us being very careful. They put him on the least invasive form of oxygen, checked on him frequently, fed him well, and gave him IV steroids several times. They weaned him off oxygen very slowly, which helped him adjust to breathing normally. I am very thankful that they also allowed me to accompany him as his support person on the night of his admission, since he has several disabilities. But above all, I am thankful that they treated him carefully and kindly, and that he got steadily better instead of worse. read more

I live near Michael Garron Hospital. I have had several bad experiences there. All in the Emergency Dept. One time I was having an extreme asthma attack and they left me lying on a gurney with a Ventolin mask drowning me with Ventolin. A Doctor passed me in the hall and took charge and said they were drowning me. Ventolin mask should not be on for more than 10-15 minutes. Not 1 hour. One time I went in needing stiches, and the head nurse showed a new worker how to Krazy Glue the wound on my thumb closed. The child nurse then left alone with me , proceeded to fill my wound with Krazy Glue and that was it. She thought that was it done. I said close the wound now before the glue dries, She didn't and the wound burned like fire, and dried to an open wound filled with hard glue. Next, I cut my eyeball with a thick wire at work, extremely painful, the worst pain. After 3 hours waiting I couldn't take the pain any more, of course wait your turn. I left and went to the walk in clinic. They were sympathetic and understood this was more pain than most can take and helped me immediately. Michael Garron was worried I was a junkie. Next at 4am I woke with one of my molars broken, the pain was so bad, I made the mistake of thinking Michael Garron Emergency would help me, no again the junkies control there perception of men asking for pain relief, all men are junkies to them if you need pain relief. the told me to go to Shoppers Drug mart. I am sorry but they have nothing at the over counter pharmacy to relieve that kind of pain. I took my Wife at 2am with stomach cramps, she got an immediate morphine drip, no questions . She felt better and they never found anything wrong and asked her if she wanted more morphine, which she did not clearly need at that point. The Doctors and nurses need phycological traing so they don't treat every man like he is a JUNKIE. Went to Michael Garron Hospital Emergency last night at 8:30pm last night, I was hit in the head 2 weeks ago and I have severe migraines and i an getting dizzy spells, after 3 hours I was told it would be another 2 hours. Go somewhere else, preferably not in Toronto, I have the same issues with St. Mikes. read more

I was evacuated from a house fire with some smoke inhalation by ambulance to Michael Garron H.C. last June. I spent a day and a half there--from ambulance to discharge my care and treatment was excellent! There was good follow-up as well after that occasion. Kudos to the paramedics, triage and intensive care unit, Nurse Mr. Cavanagh, Chief Physician Dr. Abramson, his ENT specialist, the cardio guys, Dr. Levitt and his cardio follow-ups and his support staff and technicians. My attitude was always positive and theirs was always polite, positive and professional. Keep it up. We are lucky to have this resource in our community--sorry for the "naysayers" on this point but my experience has been and is excellent with this hospital. read more

I have made 2 trips here, they weren't planned and I never had a reservation but they took me right away. I can't say the food was good as they refused to feed me until the next day only to give me sandwiches and juice. One of the times I threw up but it was before they fed me so it wasn't their fault. I can't say the parking is that great, lots available but at a premium, street meter parking or $3 for 20 minutes in the south lot. I got lucky one time as they came and picked me up at my home only to later get a ambulance bill in the mail . They always gave me letters before I went home to pick up parting gifts at the local pharmacy, this was usually for things that made me feel better for days later. One time after being there I was able to take a month off work but I couldn't travel much from home during this time as I had a walking problem, I guess it was better than the falling problem that got me in there. I think the ladder was faulty but I never had time to blame it. I'm not sure I'll go back even though I gave the place an ok review, but like my other visits there I never plan them. read more

DON'T EXPECT GOOD SERVICE AT EAST GENERAL !!!! I'm reviewing the Emergency Department of this hospital first. Don't go to East General in an emergency! I have never had 'Emergency' service there and my average visit time is 10-15 hours. Unacceptable. I am no longer going to support this hospital with my donations. They brag that they are in the 'black' financially, but it doesn't show in service. I have had cause to go there several times over the last few years and instead of getting better service, I have found that it has become worse! The waiting times are ridiculous, even when the waiting room is lightly filled! Granted, I know that doctors & nurses are overworked and I respect them greatly, but none the less, the attitude in this facility reflects anything but the caring nature that one expects when one is in need. There does not seem to be a sense of urgency for the sick. On my last visit for an asthma attack, it took almost 4 hours before I could register, several more in the waiting room, several in the exam room and by the time a doctor saw me, the emergency had long since passed. The doctor decided I was suffering from a heart attack and put me through more hours of waiting for tests and of course, it frightened me more! The results were, my heart was healthy....they couldn't figure out what was wrong (dah!). Of course not! The emergency had passed 10 to 15 hours earlier! As for the hospital care after one has been admitted, my experience was horrendous! Last year I was in for serious surgery and was put into a ward that was hot and putrid smelling. The medical equipment attached to the other 2 patients needed repair and were constantly setting off alarms. The halls were lined with equipment with repair tags on them---not very assuring to me as I wandered past them trying to escape the foul air in my room. Even though I had listed my meds several times in the pre-admitting and admitting sessions, they were not on my chart and I was not given them. They were necessary dosages. By the time the nurses got permission to administer them, the pharmacy was closed and they had no way to access them. I had been told I shouldn't bring my own supply as the hospital would make sure that I would receive my dosages. Thus I left my meds at home. HOWEVER, most importantly, I am diabetic and they did not know how to use the insulin pump. I was not allowed to wear mine. Yet they kept forgetting to give me my shots and would bring me my meals 2 hours before someone would arrive to administer any insulin. My meal would be cold or eaten as I was too hungry to wait. Finally, one nurse lowered my bed when I was in the washroom for the first time and didn't tell me, resulting in me falling backwards to hit the base of my head on the opposite bed railing. I immediately had a sharp & severe headache and I saw the offending nurse and the other nurse exchange glances. But again, I was ignored. The incident happened before lunch and I suffered until 2 am the next morning (being ignored by the nurses who would not acknowledge that I was in pain) when a new nurse starting her shift noticed I was in distress and acted immediately. By that time, my temperature had spiked and she took action to get me Tylenol and to write up a report. By Day 3 after the surgery, I had had enough of this hospital and demanded my release papers. I was talked into staying 1 more day and promised a new room, but had to wait in the visitors waiting area for about 10 hours, until one was located. My bag was packed and I was out of there first thing the next day. I needed to be hospitalized longer, and required care, but figured I was safer at home taking care of myself. At least I would give myself my medications and insulin correctly and on time, and I would get a better rest. I am very disappointed in my Community Hospital that I have supported for years. They do have wonderful doctors and nurses, but the atmosphere within the working confines of this institution does not reflect that. read more

F*ck this hospital. American Horror Story-Asylum should have been based off TEGH. The staff nearly killed my husband by leaving him sitting in emerg for over 10 mins during a life-threatening asthma attack. The only reason he was eventually hooked up to a ventolin mask was because I literally started running around the hospital screaming for help. Imagine, being in a hospital, watching the love of your life gasp for air while the staff sit on their fat asses talking about their personal lives. I'm beyond disgusted by this pile of garbage that is referred to as a hospital. TEGH would have better luck employing children. read more

I just came out of the surgical ward, after only two days. As I was getting ready to leave, an administrator asked if she could interview me on camera for training purposes. She assured me that this video would only be shown in meetings and learning settings. Among other things, I told her I was not happy with the discharge information I was getting from the staff. Sure, they told me a lot of words, but when I went away and started to process the information, I found myself thinking, "What am I supposed to do with this?" Well, the admin went right to the nurse I'd mentioned to tell her that I was unhappy. Really? Doesn't that just make most people dig in their heels even worse? She kept insisting that a physiotherapist would be needed for me to have a bit of stair practice, to ease my own concerns about going home to a walk up apartment with a low abdominal incision. When she finally said that only a PT can assess me. I saw both the problem and the solution. I wasn't asking for some official medical opinion, I could assess myself, I just wanted someone to catch me if needed. I wonder if the rest of the interview was of any use. I bet they won't even be putting hat shelves in the patient bathrooms. read more

I had a kidney stone in September last year went to this hospital waited hours to get any medication when I got it thank god some fellow was watching me I had a real bad reaction to it though it wore off in half hour the next time I was given anything was near discharge so if you ever had a kidney stone you know the pain imagine I was left for several hours only medicated twice then only given a prescription for 10 perks I ran out and was not given any prescription for more this hospital is a shit hole now and I will never go back there and to the nurses and doctor who let me stand for hours in pain F-CK YOU! ive sampled the goods at toronto east general a few times now; as a patient twice and as a caring (and slightly paranoid) husband at his wife's bedside. I never stayed overnight there but my wife did and though she had to wait in line the day she was submitted about 5 hours (yikes!) before she saw a doctor. Now, this was in emergency, but there was no blood gushing, etc., so i imagine we were lower priority, but at the same time there was no one else that was so obviously in need of emergency medical treatment either. Maybe itd be like this in any hospital here. When my wife was there, the personnel was generally of two kinds - drones and real live talkative people. The drones would be some of the nurses who seem to do their technical job very well, but are lacking in people skills or at the least, they make no effort to make someone whose vulnerable (aka any patient) feel like a person versus a body. Now on the flipside, there were doctors and other nurses who made a point of making people laugh, feel at ease and warm. I'd say it was a 50/50 split. When i went i had stitches both times and i didnt have to wait very long at all, and both times i had doctors that were quick, witty and pretty much tell it like it is folks. its nice, actually, to have a hospital nearby where you feel pretty comfortable and can have your worries kept to a minimum. read more

I cannot explain how bad this hospital is. From the emergency room all the way to the fracture clinic. No one knows what they are doing and no one can give proper advice on how to deal with my ankle fracture. It is unfortunate that the ambulance brought me to this hell hole. Was booked very quickly for an endoscopy. I was absolutely TERRIFIED about the procedure. I pictured gagging as doctors tried to force a camera down my throat. I couldn't have been more wrong. I was completely asleep during the procedure itself. When I woke up, it was all over. The staff were incredible. Everywhere I went, I was greeted very pleasantly. My initial nurse, Pamela, was probably one of the nicest people I have ever encountered. She calmed my fears and explained the procedure very clearly to me, all while making me smile. I almost hugged her. When I was brought into the procedure room, the anesthetist kept me calm by talking to me while she inserted the IV (I hate needles). She was also very sweet and kind to me. She sprayed a very gross tasting spray to freeze my throat, all while apologizing for it's horribleness. They had me turn on my side, and then I was gone. I woke up in recovery, and the nurses came to check on me. When I had come to my senses, I was moved to a chair and given apple juice. They kept me updated about when my doctor would get to me to explain the results. I can't say enough good things about the staff in that unit. I felt very comforted and well taken care of. For someone who had nightmares days leading up to the procedure, they were a dream come true! read more

A hospital that treats patients and their families like garbage. The treatment of my elderly relative and the other elderly patients in the ward was unacceptable. Unacceptable. They left them to starve. Refused to feed them. Left them in soiled clothing and when changing them finally, they did not have any regard for their dignity and did not close the curtains. I came in every day at different times and caught them doing deplorable things and when called on it, they gave excuses and their patient advcate system was a joke. DO NOT GO THERE. Take a longer trip to another hospital in the area. It is worth avoiding this inadequate hospital. read more

This is not a good hospital. Day surgery took forever. Arrived at 9:30AM and didn't leave until 7:30 PM. After 5 PM there are no regular staff and if your loved one is still in surgery there is no one to tell you what is going on. No idea if they are going home that evening, if there were complications etc. They sent us home with complications and had to visit ER soon after getting home to resolve the problem. Stay away from this place at all costs. This is a horrible place. The Garron's should have given their hard earned cash to some other hospital.....I would not want my name associated with a second tier medical centre. read more

Suffers enormously from the same negligent malaise that endangers patients in the worst possible way. Staff are asleep at the wheel. Receptionists socialize at the expense of patients waiting to be seen. Be prepared to wait. If you have an appointment, be sure to show up at least an hour early. Found this out the hard way. read more
