I needed CPR/BLS certification so I came here. The class costs $55. You register online and that didn't take very long as it was quite simple. Finding this place was slightly difficult though since the only sign was on the window. Also, they required me to purchase a book online for $11 but I think they sold it in class for $15. The guy in charge is named Jeff. Matt taught my class though. He was friendly and his funny remarks kept the class interesting. The class was from 1:00-3:40. It was very informative despite the short amount of time. Each person had a CPR tool (dummy). After every chapter/section we used the skills we learned on the tool. We finished the video and then took a 20 question test (not graded). Then we went through the answers. Matt explained why each answer was correct In short: the class was informative yet interesting and enjoyable, it took a reasonable amount of time, the instructor was easy to understand, the price was good, I'll probably come back for renewal. read more

This is my first time taking ACLS recert at this location and I highly recommend it. The class is stress-free and the instructor Luis was very knowledgeable and made class fun and entertaining. There is no need to be nervous because they really want you to pass and you will definitely pass. A handout was given with all the algorithms broken down for you to easily understand-- this definitely helped me in my learning. Luis gave hints throughout the class to remember for the test at the end. They also have snacks and coffee/tea for you so you're not dying of hunger or falling asleep. On Saturday mornings, you'll usually find me pretending to be athletic at 24 Hour Fitness or in bed hating myself for being too lazy to pretend to be athletic. BLS CPR for Healthcare Professionals class at 9am - not usually in my usual Saturday morning schedule and definitely not my usual idea of fun. However! I actually had a decent amount of fun at Heart Start CPR, and surprisingly, it wasn't a total waste of 3 hours. Our teacher, David Ybarra, presented the information efficiently and seemed to be genuinely concerned that everyone was following along/"getting it". He's been a firefighter for years, and it shows. Dang, I hope my hubby looks like him when he gets to be that age. Rawr. Anyway, I digress. In a nutshell, the class was low-key/low pressure, the students were friendly, and it was a breeze. On the website, the manual is sold for $11 and states that in-class the cost is $15. However, our class never cracked open the book. So call ahead of time to see if buying the book is even necessary - save yourself $15 :) read more

I went to Heart Start for CPR/ BLS and loved it! Cost: $60.00 for class $15 for the book. Scheduling: There were plenty of times available. I enrolled yesterday and had my class tonight at 6pm which was very convenient. * If you want to contact them, you have to email. They DO NOT answer the phones but they answered my email within an hour. Location: San Ramon, CA location. Very easy to find. Instructor: Raymond Ramirez. He was great. Very calm and friendly teaching style. Knowledgeable. Class: straight forward, easy to follow. There is a 20 question test at the end which is easy to pass if you pay attention. The class was short (about 2.5 hours). We finished early than expected. Topics covered: Adult, child, and infant CPR - Rescue breathing - Heimlich Maneuver (abdominal thrusts) for adult, child, pregnant woman - AED for adult and child Certification: After you pass the test (you have to get 17+ to pass) you are given a personalized card from the American Heart Association. I really like this place. I been to a lot places in San Jose area to take my acls and acls renewal classes, but I like this place a lot more. Greg is my favorites instructor. I love the way he teaches his lesson. He make materials very easy to digest. I also like how he often throw in his field work experiences as an example. By the time you leave this place, he make you feel very confident that you know what you are doing. Recently I came back here to take my PALS class. And I still love it. I think I will probably just come back here from now on to take all my renewal classes. I also really appreciate the owner sending out discount email or promotion codes on Facebook so we can save some money with these classes because they are not cheap. read more

I noted at least one other procrastinator had left a glowing review, so I'm jumping on that bandwagon as well. Considering I did my recert class today (September 30th, 2011), the same day my current certification expires...well, it's be a dubious honor, but I think that makes me Prime Procrastinator! I needed a combination BLS/ACLS recertification class, and even though there were others available at the hospital where I currently work (I'm a travel nurse), my schedule for September was already set and today was the only class that satisfied the dual-recertification AND wouldn't have me awake and sitting through class after pulling a 7p to 7a shift. (As quickly as the process went, however, I think I still would've been able to pull it off.) I paid a total of $260 (for the class AND the textbook), which is less than what the hospital would've charged. The only thing that snagged was the link within the class-confirmation email that I got from Heartstart, in which I was supposed to have been able to access a pre-course self-assessment: I got an error message and wasn't able to bring the results of that to class, as I was instructed in the email. Our instructors today were Matt and Hans, two paramedics who, while remaining mindful of "ideal" situations, weren't shy about telling you how things are in "the real world". They were both very knowledgeable and laid-back instructors (not intimidating, like some instructors I've had in the past), with stories from the field that nicely served to accentuate the training. I think it's the highest compliment I can give them when I tell you that this was the most PAINLESS recertification I've EVER gone through. Of course, I've been a nurse for 21 years, and have had to go through more than a few of these, so for someone not as familiar with ACLS as I am, it might not be as much of a breeze. But with instructors like these, ACLS = EZ! read more

I have been utilizing Heartstart CPR for many years now. Sure, my employer can provide a class but it's rarely convenient. eCards provided quickly and classes are well run. Give them a try, you won't be disappointed. Staff are knowledgeable and eager to help you learn. I just completed the BLS Adult, Child, Infant CPR/AED & First-Aid class today. The instructor, David, was thorough in his explanations as he went though the material. He pointed out information that was on the AHA test and explained the "why we do this this way" to the procedure to help the class remember the details/methods to CPR. I appreciate this much more than an online course. The size of the class was about 10 people. It took about 2.5 hours with a 5 minute break. The written test was 20 or 25 question of which you were only allowed to miss 4 to pass. We used both infant and adult CPR dummies as well as other equipment such as BVM for practice and the skills exam. I recommend this class to everyone for at least general safety. I'm so thankful that this learning location was closer to Livermore than Oakland and part of the entire course was online so that I could access it to my schedule. read more

I am an acute care NP and I have been going to HeartStart since 2017 for both BLS and ACLS recents. I highly recommend this place. The instructors are experienced EMT and/or EMT instructors. The curriculum is very organized and emphasized on key points to prepare you for the final test. Good hands-on practices. The fee is very fair, in fact I think it is most reasonable compared to other companies. The location is easy to access, next to HomeDepot San Ramon off 680. The place could use a coat of new paint (only because I have seen the same color for many years). Best place to go for your recertifications . read more

Matt & Greg are the face and heart of HS CPR. They both had a cool, easy-going vibe but were thorough to the core. I love how they both gave real-life experiences as paramedics in Oakland and Vallejo (and you know those two cities ain't no joke--tells you their skill and clinical chops are primo) and engaged the class on many levels. This is my new home for BLS, PALS and ACLS. This is the first time in 21 years as an RN that I felt stronger as a clinician (especially re EKG reads) and as an alert Walmart Shopper! Thanks you two! Had to get my ACLS /BLS renewed quickly, and they had a class when I needed it! They have several per month to choose from. PROS: Instructor Lisa was just fabulous! Just enough fun, but still down to business. She doesn't waste a lot of time with silly stuff. Loved the computer program simulations for mega code! They have snacks and drinks available for students. CONS: Hard to get them on the phone. Paid for class and book to study for class online, then went to pick up book on Friday. They were closed on Friday, so no book to study for class! As it turned out, I didn't need the book after all. Slow to get refund also.....nearly a week later, and after speaking with 2 staff members about it! Also, it would have been nice to know about the Yelp discount...... All in all, I will return if still in CA. They made a stressful class fun, and it didn't take 2 days to do! read more

I usually go to Nurse Education Workshop in Santa Clara for my BLS, because it's closer. However, I needed my certificate in a rush and after much searching this was the only available class at the time I needed. They say they do classes almost everyday, sometimes twice a day, so that is awesome. I was dreading another BLS class. However, this class was awesome. Ray was an amazing instructor. Very lively, with relevant information on the topic. No boring videos with the same corny situations. No long drawn out lectures. It was very to the point and information was given in a manner that was easy to retain. At no point did I feel bored or lethargic. I felt like what was being said actually made sense and that I had actually learned something. I think that next time I need re-certification, I will make the 40 minute drive and come back here. The new on-line CPR class for pros allows for "working" some realistic scenarios. I found it a bit challenging - which is a good thing! Can't beat the convenience. And the hands on portion was fast and to the point. If you need to budget your time while getting a quality re-cert for CPR, this is the one. read more

Great experience! I had to take my initial ACLS certification September 2014. The 2 day class was laid back, informative, easy going, and low stress. The instructor was super nice and they provided good coffee and snacks. The class was easy to find in San Ramon with easy parking and access. Instructor ran through simulations and assisted us. Wonderful instructors, really felt prepared to care for all of my pediatric patients after my PALs renewal course!

First time taking any type of ACLS class & I was extremely nervous. Andrew the instructor made the course very interactive and felt like a group learning session rather than a testing one. We went over the EKG rhythms and different code scenarios as a class & he highlighted the important notes to remember. Printed useful handouts that broke down the algorithms and his past paramedic experience sharing real life stories of code situations made the course engaging, fun, and easier to apply. Highly recommend to review material using the ACLS book before coming to class, but even if you didn't Andrew will help you understand the material so you are prepared for the test the second day. (You still need to get the ACLS AHA book to take the course.) MUST print & take the ACLS AHA pre assessment in order to get certified. read more
