I got the surf and turf. It was a $42.00 meal. I was told the salad bar was extra(not even a side salad for $42.00???). I am from Florida, so I suppose I got spoiled on lobster there. I wasn't happy with this one. It was "fair" The steak was very good, I will go that route next time. Side salad should be offered with a full course meal IMO. I'm not sure why it only got 3.5 stars, this place is great. On the road, hungry, yelped it and took the risk. Must say, excellent food. Filet mignon was tender and the prime rib was cooked to perfection. Salad bar with entree is included and the stuff baked potato and sweet potatoes are nicely paired. We had the pleasure of dining here last night 12/11/21 after hearing such amazing things about this facility I must say this is hands down the best I have ever had. Even though I believe we decided to visit on an extremely busy night our server Tonya did not skip a beat, she was extremely professional, kind and caring and knew what she was doing. The food at Heath's is absolutely delicious and the owners are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet very friendly and aim to please. Yes it is a little pricey but you get what you pay for!! This used to be a great place with top quality meat selections, tonight I was very disappointed with my meal especially the steak. The rib eye I was served was tough and a very thin cut. I ordered the Surf and Turf. The fried scallops were wet and soggy with grease, not even a little crispy. No bread was served with the meal. I believe that at the price point they charge the food should have been quality and there should have been bread! I have often referred this place to visitors in the past but no longer will send anyone there. Sad really because Dunn doesn't really have any other "nice" steak restaurants. I think this might be a much nicer place when it isn't so busy. To be fair, the salad bar was fresh and well stocked (although the tiny plates are laughable.)The server did her best, but everyone was obviously struggling to keep up. The steaks were generously cut, good quality, and well cooked, but barely room temperature. I suppose that couldn't be helped, because we seemed to be sitting under a freezing cold vent. Lastly, the air was thick with smoke from the grill... not in a nice yummy way, but in a "wash your clothes as soon as you get home" way. I prefer to support family owned businesses rather than chains, but I will avoid going here during high traffic days/times. read more

Went for Mother's Day and it took almost 2 hours to get our food and then 2 out of a party of 5 had to send their steaks back to be recooked. One still came back wrong and then everyone was already finished with their meal and she said just don't bother. I don't want it anymore and no one there said they were sorry. We decided to go out for dinner the other night, headed to Heath's and had heard they were under new ownership. We were very disappointed to see the manager was no longer there! She was so awesome every time we have eaten there and probably the main reason we did. Now it looks like the other steak house rejects have taken over and have some pretty crappy attitudes. They were the reason we didn't eat at the other steak house. It took a couple hours to get our food, the steaks were over cooked and the sides were cold! We decided it wasn't worth complaining as we didn't want to wait another 2 hours to get our food. We got to go containers and left with pretty expensive food for our dogs! Heath's II can accommodate those with Celiac disease! While there are not gluten free replacement options (like gf bread or gf pasta), the staff and manager were fantastic at accommodating my needs as a person with severe Celiac disease. My sensitivity has gotten very high and I was nervous, but Melanie, the general manager, patiently explained what shared what space, that they wash cutting boards between use and that each cutting board has a specific purpose, and was able to give me many delicious options so I could still enjoy the menu! I have eaten there several times and I have not yet gotten sick - and I am so sensitive that some specifically gluten free businesses cannot accommodate me! IN TWO WORDS, OVERPRICED CRAP. I went here once and let me be frank (though thats not my name) I ordered a steak and seafood combo. The steak was a the sorriest looking thing you ever ate. An 8 oz sirloin pulled out of the freezer and thrown on the flat top (yes I said cooked on the flat top, like the waffle house) , the seafood part was supposed to have scallops, and fried oysters I believe. I got 4 tiny scallops. The salad bar was included but the waitress made sure to tell me that it was "ONE TRIP ONLY". ALL THIS FOR A WHOPPING 28 DOLLARS! Are you serious. Well I'll never go back there again, you feel like your eating in a funeral parlor too. Avoid this place and go to the Brass Lantern or Sagebrush you will do much better there. What the other reviewers have posted about sandwich cheese on the twice baked potato and not great quality steaks is spot on and I can't really add to those. The disposable fake butter packets pushed me over the edge - for two people to eat a steak with tip you are pushing $65. At least serve REAL butter. Save your $$ and drive to Clayton to the Clayton Steakhouse, or Longhorn in Garner or to one of the many steakhouses in Raleigh. read more

TERRIBLE food. I got flounder that was so full of bones I had to send it back. My husbands shrimp we're obviously frozen and thawed. One trip to a crappy salad bar and it's policed lol. The bread was tasteless and had no butter offered. Its very expensive and not good at all. My stuffed potato had melted Cheddar cheese on top that looked like it had been melted for a while and it was barely warm. Melted butter for shrimp was not hot. Tried this steakhouse based on a recommendation from a friend even though Yelp rating was very average. Should have listened to Yelp! Here's quick rundown: salad bar was good, steak was average, flounder was not that good and the asparagus was so salty we couldn't eat it. Also prices were fairly high so I believe they should be three dollar signs. read more

Heath's (II) has made a come back since the past few years. The salad bar is fantastic. I'm not sure what makes it so good but it keeps us coming back. The steak has definitely improved. Newly remodeled and renamed Heaths II, basically same food, just higher prices. You get one trip to the salad bar and they have the smallest salad bowls you can get. I had prime rib which was just average. My fiance had ribeye medium well. It was thick on one side and thin on the other so it went from medium well to burnt. We both had the stuffed potato which was served with a slice of imitation cheese on top. They had all sorts of real cheddar cheese on the salad bar but put a 3 cent slice of imitation cheese on the potato. When you are paying anywhere from $17.95 to $39.95 for a single steak meal it would seem you would get real cheddar. When I asked the waitress why she said it's been that way for 38 years. I reminded her that it was reopened just a few weeks ago as a different place so why not change that too. If you want to basically waste your money then eat here but there is another place in town that has better tasting food at slightly lower prices and they don't limit how much you eat from the salad bar. read more

The sign was crooked and it is in a run down building and the surroundings were frightening. Walking in to the restaurant was worse. The salad bar looked like it had been set up that morning and never refreshed nor cleaned after the customers. Then the table, you know the food is bad when you see 8 steak sauces lined up in the middle of the table. Silverware was almost as thin and light weight as plastic ware. Now the menu. $22.95 for an 8 oz ribeye. Cheapest steak there was. Included a side and a trip to the salad bar. Salad bar bowls were the tiny old wooden ones. Not one great dressing either. All old school types. Only 2 choices for the kids. Now the food. Salad bar was a joke. Bread on the salad bar was not cooked just taken out of the bag and you slice it yourself. My son did not want chicken nuggets or fries shrimp so my 11 year old got the ribeye and baked potato. When it arrived I almost laughed. The ribeye was broiled and watery. The baked potato still wrapped in aluminum looked inside like it was baked yesterday and warmed up. Horrible. I got the filet mignon and stuffed potato. The filet was tender but looked like it had been broiled then grilled a second to give it the appearance of being grilled. The stuffed potato was a frozen pre ordered potato and to my astonishment it had a piece of slice American cheese melted on top (like the ones in plastic-seriously). Steak had absolutely no flavor at all. Hence the steak sauces. 4 meals and one child meal totaled $125. No one cleared our plates. When the waitress brought my bill to sign for the cc she said "want me to move that plate out of your way so you have room to sign". Umm YEAH. so she picked up my plate and moved it to the end of the table and left it there. We were celebrating my mother in laws 80th birthday and she selected the place which is the only reason we stayed. Beware. Bad food. Very overpriced. Bad experience. My family has been going to Heath's for 25 years. It was always my favorite steakhouse, with superb service and food. Both of these qualities, that Mr. Heath worked so hard to obtain, have disappeared. On our last (and final) visit, the steak looked like a piece of meat one would get at the Waffle House. My husband has been getting the same steak for 25 years and it has never looked (nor tasted) like a sub par 1/8 inch slice of cheap meat. The salad bar had always been well known for being the best in the area. Now, the fresh bread and cheese are gone and the toppings have changed. If it is not broke, don't fix it! By far, the most striking part of our last experience was the woman (a manager??) who hovered over the cook and the wait staff like someone was going to steal a french fry or place one too many on a plate. Mr. Walker (and Mr. Johnson) has been cooking for as long as I can remember and can probably grill a perfect steak with his eyes closed. This woman stood over him so much that I wanted to get up and tell her to get a life. She reviewed every ticket and inspected every plate with such a "micromanagement" style that I was close to exploding with anger. This woman was unbearable. Now she never said anything to us. She did not need to. She made herself look bad enough by the way she treated the staff. I have never, in my life, see such grossly disrespectful behavior while dining. I remember how tough Mr. Heath was. He ran that place with an iron fist. I remember him walking around the restaurant and making sure every glass was full - Glasses that probably held no more than 10oz of liquid. If the glass was not full he would immediately (but quietly) call out the waitress. Although some would look at this as micromanagement, that is why this Steakhouse flourished. This woman is not Mr. Heath. I told our waitress that she would run the place into the ground. Heath's Steakhouse has been a part of my family for nearly 3 decades. Mr. Stacy Johnson's passing brought tears to my eyes. Although I never spoke to him, nor him to I, I felt comfort when I saw him and Mr. Walker behind the grill. We dined at Heath's 9/21/15 based on a recommendation as we had not visited Dunn, NC before. Great service! However, the $17.95 Bone-in 1 3/4"-12oz Pork Chop ordered was maybe 3/4" and not 12 oz, but flavorful. The 8 oz NY Strip @ $23.95 may have been 8 oz, but lacked flavor. Salad bar was very fresh with great selection. Bottom line, entrees very over priced for what you get. Entree menu should be delivered as advertised and pricing needs to be revisited. read more
