I can't say enough good things about Heavenly Buffaloes! My friend first introduced me to their delicious food a couple years ago, and I've been obsessed ever since. I'm vegetarian, and was delighted to see that they offer vegan "wings". My favorite sauce is the hot vegan Buffalo, but all their other sauces are wonderful as well. The waffle fries are to die for. This is the only place we go to eat at in Durham now. Just be sure to double check your bag if you order additional ranch/blue cheese dressing. They've either forgotten to include them or added the wrong dressing on multiple occasions. During COVID - I have driven by this place a few times and kept noticing the line outside... I know I just had to try them for take-out. I have now tried them a few them a few times. And, of course there is a line -- they are flipping wonderful! Their wings are good - but I am a boneless fan - and they know how to do boneless. Great balance of chicken-to-breading-to-sauce. Their sweet potato waffle fries are awesome as well. As far as their flavors we tried a few of the buffalo spice-levels and have settled on their medium buffalo. I've been a fan of Heavenly Buffaloes since they opened up in Durham. It had been a couple of years since I stopped by and things seem to have changed a lot on the customer service side of things. On March 8th I called in an order for 25 wings. The gentleman on the phone let me select 3 flavors. Ten minutes later he calls me back and says I can only have 2 flavors in that quantity. I said alright and then hung up. I looked at the menu a minute later to see that I could have ordered 3 single orders instead. Between the time he called me and the time I arrived, 3 minutes passed. I walk up to the counter and I ask him if there's any way he could change the order to 21 wings so I can have the 3 flavors I wanted. He walked over to the manager to see if they could help me out and with a flippant attitude, in front of me, she says no, the order is already finished. I asked her again and she dismissed me. I was in shock. So, instead of being a little more accommodating, for the error that her own employee made, she single handedly made me not ever want to do business there again. The lean is toward hot and spicy in all degrees, so put on your mouth armor, and dig in! I was disappointed when I looked at their "wet" flavor list and didn't find a couple of seasonings I was really looking forward to having (only available in "dry"). Of course, there are drawbacks. During this COVID-19 time, it's busier than usual, and there's no trusting the *customers* waiting around to have protective masks on. Stopped by here as a party of two on a rainy day. We knew beforehand that there was only outdoor seating so we called ahead about 20 minutes, and the wings were ready upon arrival. We ordered: 7x Chipotle BBQ, 7x Sweet Thai Coconut Chili, 7x Jamaican Jerk, 7x Dry Heavenly Buffalo, Sweet Potato Fries. To start with, the wings: These suckers are bigger than your usual chicken wing at restaurant, so keep that in mind when ordering a lot. We ordered by batches of 7 because ordering in batches of 7 or 13 only yields one sauce. Starting from the 25, you can get multiple sauces (2). Thai coconut chili was by far our favorite, and it was a very good flavorful one. This is sweet, crunchy, and a little spicy on the flavor. Chipotle BBQ was a far off second place, but still not bad. Dry Heavenly Buffalo was nothing special to write about, and the Jamaican Jerk was actually very distasteful to us... It tried to mesh a smokey flavor with a playful kick along with green onions... didn't work on us. The celery and bleu cheese: The celery was packaged very fresh in cute saran wrapped bunches. They were very crisp and flavorful. For the sauce, the chunky bleu cheese was one of the best I've ever had. If you enjoy blue cheese, definitely try it here. The sweet potato fries, we ordered a full for the two of us, which was too much, as they pack that container full. We forgot to order it with dry rub but they were still pretty good. The size of the wings, the flavor of half of the sauces we ordered, the celery and bleu cheese, the fries... I usually love Heavenly Buffaloes but I had an absolutely awful experience tonight that left me pretty irritated. Called in an order at 11pm and after holding for a while on the phone, was told it's be about 20 minutes. Got there exactly 20 minutes later and both windows were closed. I had to wait about five minutes for someone to open the window even though they definitely saw me there. I pay and the guy tells me it's about another five minutes. I wait. People come and go. Everyone is told to wait another five to ten minutes. After several people behind me get their order, I finally ask about twenty minutes later and the guy tells me that it's been ready in the tone of "it's clearly your fault you didn't ask earlier". I very explicitly got told to wait and my name was never called. Honestly, I wouldn't even be that irritated about it if it weren't 40 degrees out and their heater was out of service. I am surprised I haven't reviewed Heavenly Buffaloes sooner as I go there weekly (I'm actually glad my house is out of their delivery range or it could be more). My favorite is the "thai-ler-peri" combo sauce of the thai coconut chili and peri peri (you can get any sauces combined, just be sure to specify). The fries are also delicious (although they are much crispier if you pick them up rather than thru delivery). The people on the phone taking your order are always nice and I enjoy the hold music for once in my life. I will say they can get busy and wait times can be long so be prepared (and the parking lot is not very big). I especially appreciate their delivery drivers who are always hustling with a smile. These wings were barely just ok. My biggest critique is how they got soggy really quick. I tasted one in the car and it was good but by the time I drove seven minutes home they were super soggy. Fries are neither crunchy nor soft. Taste like they are defrosted. The boneless wings are also just fried, defrosted breaded chicken strips. The dry rubs are sort-of miss or just plain miss. Got the zesty lemon-pepper salt which was flavorful but not an amazing flavor. The garlic parmesan tastes bland, which is amazingly bad. I offered my company, a wing connoisseur, a piece. He couldn't tell that it was seasoned. Terrible. The wet rubs are better but I'd still recommend going to Dame's Chicken and Waffles instead for their chicken wings. I have been in Durham my whole life. This was my FAVORITE wing place. No complaint with the food. Its amazing. But the prices are out of hand. I understand things went up during the pandemic. But chicken wing prices are basically (only 10% above early 2020 levels) the same as they were pre-pandemic. But their prices are nearly DOUBLE what they were 2-3 years ago. I've been reading good things about Heavenly Buffaloes (especially about their vegan wings) for a while now. We were driving on Main St. and on a whim stopped by to try it out. I got an order of boneless wings with a ginger garlic sauce and my wife tried the vegan wings with hot sauce. I'd have to say that while the food was decent, I can't say it was better than wings at other places. My wife said her vegan wings were mostly breading. Most of the sauce on my wings settled to the bottom of the carton so I had to swish the pieces around to get more sauce on the wings. On the plus side, the staff was friendly and our large order of sweet potato waffle fries was indeed very large -- we finished them the next day. We got there after 50, and waited ~5 in line to be told that they had several large orders that had set them behind, and they needed to check on our order. We said alright and paid, and waited. I got back in line after 20 minutes, and waited 10 (long line of angry people wondering when they were going to get their food) only to be told that my food would be "right out" by a woman working the second window. It finally came out in 10. So just to add that up for those of your not keeping score at home, that was 95 minutes on an order that they had quoted me 45 on, and then assured me of a second time. I know businesses get busy, but their explanation of it being a busy game night was pretty lame - there wasn't a game in town, and this business has been around long enough and I imagine handled enough busy nights that they should be able to get slightly closer to an accurate time. Those dry rubs is why I go here for my wings. I love the ranch and jerk rubs. The fries are all right, but I like some sho nuff crisp, and their waffle fries can be a little tough. Also, I mostly ordered in at 1 am when I was craving wings (given they're open super late) - but do go to their shack once and eat too. It's a different experience sitting there. They have the best wings and it's so good, but recently I called in and tried to order a delivery a little bit before they were supposed to close and they refused my order. When I asked if I could come in and get there before they closed, they still said that they wouldn't let me order as it was too close to closing time. If a business is going to advertise a closing time, then they should honor that closing time and serve food until then. If you want to stop serving early, then advertise that you actually stop serving food at a certain time. I have been a loyal customer to them for years and have even tipped generously when I do visit, but I am very disappointed in the service that I received tonight.
